You will not find any real life noticiable difference between DDR3 and DDR2 other than the money missing out of you wallet. However you dont have a choice anyways the W90 only supports DDR2, DDR3 uses a totally different socket type.

Hi I just went through the limit breaker guide thank,s ViciousXUSMC. All went well with the flashing ext and i seem ok with using set FSB. I did not get on to well wight overclocking the GPU with the AMD GPU tool. I seemed to get a blank screen and had to hard restart. Could someone give a detailed description of how that tool should work...
-
-
Still waiting on mine from Fremont too... was told the ETA for the replacement cards is between July 1 and July 8.
Luckily I bought another toy... Sorry for your loss John -
lol...not a loss, just a temporary "timeout" to get my desktop up to par, then it's back to a laptop...
-
Well it seems the M17x's are starting to pull ahead of the W90..............
-
Yes they are pulling ahead, but like many of us speculated months ago where it would not be leaps and bounds better
And there not . I was all set on getting a cheap0 laptop and that didnt turn out as planned
so my eyes have shifted again and i may just wait and see what john ends up with and go from there
.
-
Ok, I have tried searching for it, but how do you turn off the standard mode icon during movies, it is so damned annoying.
-
j/k
I believe there are 2 services that run with turbogear... turbogear and the turbogear helper service. Dont quote me on it... but i think if you stop the helper service, that will disappear, and turbogear will still run. Havent had my W90 for almost a month, so im not 100% sure that will fix your issue, but i never had the mode displayed while playing a movie. -
-
Thanks, I will try that

I still have not seen really good results in the threads I was browsing. -
Another test they're benchmarking is the X3 Terran Conflict demo. If W90 owners would like to compare results, you can download it here:

Hey does anyone have any word on modded 9.6 drivers? Supposedly ArmA II runs much better with them and Crysis as well. By the way what ever happened to E-Wrecked?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
He just vanished, I think a few people on the forums know him outside of the forums so maybe they can try to get in touch with him.
I have not touched the 9.6's yet since I mentioned that I would look into it.
Been working, watching the kids, and doing some bike riding.
Did 17 miles today in a lot of mud, I fell over once as I followed behind somebody and they rutted out a puddle real deep so my bike sank half way into the mud and just stopped instantly, my feet were locked to my pedals so I fell over like a tree.
Great ride today though wish I had pictures, also wish I did not spend 1:30 after the fact cleaning me and the bike. -
I just ran the X3 Terran Conflict demo. I have a X1. Using ViciousXUSMC's guide and the 9.4 drivers, turbo gear oc at 17%

And those programs are pretty easy to use, but takes some trial an error. For SetFSB, go back to Vicious' guide and try increasing in increments. I think a T9600 with SetFSB should hit 3.6ghz. GPUtool is kinda buggy, but it's the only program so far that actually overclocks the cards when in crossfire. Some W90s have hit around 640mhz core and 960mhz in memory, so when you get the chance, try plugging in lower values to see if it's stable enough. -

Spent a lot of the night trying to test my theory of the RAM holding back my OC on the CPU.
With the program SPDTool I tried to increase the latency of my DDR2 667 table to match that of the DDR2 800 table, this increase in latency will allow the ram to overclock higher, and thus the cpu to overclock higher.
I was able to manipulate all the timmings other than the CAS, and but thing is when I go to flash the new SPD table I get a few errors (exceptions) and when I reboot nothing seems to have changed on the RAM.
Not sure where the problem falls, but I am willing to rip the RAM out of the W90, rip open my EEE 1000H , and stick it in there and try the tool there.
I think maybe the new chipset of the W90 is not really supported by the program as it is about 2 years old, but with luck the EEE can flash the Ram.
If it works dont be surprised to see anywhere from a 3.0 to 3.2ghz OC on my Q9000 -
Ok, I ran X3 demo without the 4x aa. This is with a X1 using ViciousXUSMC's guide and the 9.4 drivers, turbo gear oc at 17%
I will next do the overclocking using setFSB to OC the CPU and GPUtool to OC the GPUs as requested. As I said prior, I don't have any experience with these tools and I am at work so I will get back here as soon as i can.

So, what roughly were the AW m17x users getting for the x3 demo benchmarks?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Same as us, as I disscused and explained to them in there side of the forum I found this benchmark to be heavily cpu bound.
My score was compltetly bassed on cpu speed just liked 3dmark06.
So you would score higher with 2 lesser cards and a faster cpu than you would with 2 high cards and a slower cpu.
I got 68fps with my Q9000 @ 2.7ghz but only 62fps with it @ 2.5ghz despite the fact I had a huge OC on my video cards.
the people in the 70's are using dual cores in the 3ghz range.
So to make it short and sweet, this bench is totally worthless unless you want to remind yourself the clock speed of your cpu, it has no bearing on the performance of the gpu units. -
Hey, thanks Vic, that's a great explanation to really help understand what's going on with this benchmarking stuff.
Off topic, but thanks for all of the work, help, and support on this forum. I haven't installed the limit breaker and 9.4 drivers yet however I downloaded them and it's awesome how helpful you are with laying everything out in the files and the guide you put together explaining how to do everything! -
Hi ViciousXUSMC I have used your great limit Breaker Guide All went well with the flashing of the GPU and installing the 9.4 drivers thank you. I am not to confident with using the TechPowerUp GPU tool. Could you give a little bit more detail on how to use this tool. How to check if you have successfully overclocked the GPU and how the machine should respond if all is well.
-
Also after using the limit breaker guide the one game my son was playing Mirrors Edge went from avg 32 fps to avg 65fps with no gpu overclock and a sfb Q9000 @ 2.5ghz

One for Core Speed, one for Memory Speed. You slide them up some and hit apply.
Do this in small chunks of about 15mhz each and test until you find a point where you have issues then back down.
But I guess I will explain in a short guide addition tonight if I find time how to test the card for max clocks with the built in test. -
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Eh I do not have the money to be playing tester right now.
I tried to use the spdset tool on my EEE and it wont read the memory so I guess that chipset wont work with it.
I found out the W90 chipset may not be what is not compatible with the ram, it just could be my ram is write protected, considering it reads it but wont write it that seems a fair assumption. -
Just a random question: has anybody played ARMA 2 on their laptop? Is it runnin smooth?

I'm having a problem installing the 9.4 drivers on my cards. I used Ken's bootdisk to flash the cards, 1st one master oc, 2nd one slave oc. I'm trying to install the 9.4 drivers now through device manager however it won't let me install for the second card. I only get an a yellow warning flag that drivers aren't installed properly. Could I have done something wrong? Should I use Vic's flash instead and make them both master?
Thanks. -
