    Hello,
I tried that before installing the stock one... I installed the CCC 9.7 all the way from scratch (I.E nothing was installed previously) , but there was no CCC!!!!!!!! just the folder ATI in C: and ATI technologies in program files (which is empty btw)...
P.S : i do have crossfire working in windows 7 as well its just the CCC 9.7 that i cant get installed....

Are you sure you're installing the right drivers, ie. the Ati Mobility Radeon drivers, 9-7_beta_win7_64_dd_CC.exe ?

I'm experiencing 2d crashes, the screen turns grey, and the only thing that works usually is power down & restart. Anyone else have similar issues?

Yes i went to ATI site and dowloaded the last 9.7 package that is on the black background page... when i install the .exe it goes to the install panel where u choose between quick install or custom install, whatever i click on it takes like 30 sec then says install finished and nothing has changed....same goes for 9.6 because i do not see the CROSSFIRE option in CCC , this means it is still the stock CCC installed on the drive.

I used the below steps to get CCC installed on Vista using this Win 7 mob Cat 9.7 CCC I'm guessing Win 7 is setup pretty much the same as Vista.

    Uninstalling CCC, and then:

    1. Check that (Program Files folder )/ATI Technologies/ATI.ACE is empty

    2. Check (Windows folder)/Assembly folder to see if there's any files with Public Key Token of "90ba9c70f846762e" (Sort by Public key token to get a easier view). All these tokens should be uninstalled by right clicking and uninstalling.

    3. Check that (Document and Settings)/(User)/AppData/Local/ATI/ACE is empty

    4. Check that registry locations are empty:
    a. HKCU/Software/ATI/ACE
    b. HKLM/Software/ATI/ACE

    4. Reinstall CCC

Btw. the Asus stock drivers that came with the install CD are working on Windows 7 in CrossFire mode, when you have master/master setup. CCC doesn't work with those drivers though. I got over 13000 marks on 3DMark06.

So I ordered an X2 from Newegg last week(should be here in a few days), my only problem now is I found somewhere to buy an A1 for 1850 brand new as well. The A1 is the model I prefer, but I know Newegg has a no return policy on laptops...so I was thinking I would try to sell the X2 on ebay for somewhere near the price I got it for. I'd be saving 500-600 dollars if I sold it for the same amount, but if I even get 2100 for it, I'd still save money. Anyone want a brand new X2? lol

Atlantic Supplies had an add on vflyer. I emailed them last week and they got back to me earlier today. They are actually based in Tallahassee(FL) and I live in Orlando(FL), so not a big distance.

OMG. the w90 x-2 is now $2,429.99 on newegg. why the sudden increase in price? is it because there is now only a limited supply?

That is odd, mine was 2349 from them and I ordered mine Friday.

About that add for the A1, I wanted to overnight it(which would have cost $30 dollars more since i'm close) and the guy said I'd have to western union them the money. So I said no, and I guess with CC or paypal it takes a week longer because of verification. So I will let you know what happens, sounds fishy to me that they won't overnight without western union. But yes, I think anyone can buy from them...if its legit.

Edit: So I googled their 'agents' name, and I get a bunch of hits for scams. So I guess its not legit, figured as much. No company will have you western union money and credit cards won't hinder you from speedy shipping.

Oh well, at least I got mine from newegg before they boosted the price for some odd reason.

Can someone point out where to buy the internal blu-ray player for the W90? I have the Newegg model with the Q9000 (swapped in an E8435 though) and a standard DVD player. Anyways, I want to put in the Blu-ray player instead.

Any help would be spiffy.. Thanks in advance.

I have 9.7 drivers torn appart and im working on modding them. If i get any luck on this i'll post. On another note Asus tech support is worthless, the first time i called i got someone in America, now i get india or somewhere else crappy. Come on people i ask a simple question and it goes right over their heads. If its not in a script, they just repeat a guessed answer.

ok guys. update on my RMA. it has been shipped out to me. i never got a call back or an email from shipping out my RMA but i might not get that till later tonight, so no biggie. now get this, the shipping is 2 day select service. so i called asus asking why it isn't overnight. the rep said that it's supose to be overnight and for me to call back tomorrow by 11:59pm if i haven't received my laptop. of course i'm not going to receive it tomorrow.

so, asus is now going to investigate why it was 2day select instead of overnight. shipping to and from is suppose to be overnight? when i shipped the RMA out, it was standard 4 day shipping. the rep said that it was suppose to be overnight also. so, guys with RMAs, was your's shipped overnight to repair and shipped overnight back to you? am i the only one who keeps getting screwed? anyway, this is what was replaced, motherboard, LCD screen, and Hard drive. any hug difference in performance from motherboard replacement?

I'm pretty sure if you just go to ebay and type in blu-ray drive laptop, the internal ones that pop up should be the right ones...sony/panasonic ones? Not positive and i'm not sure how good they are, maybe someone can give tell you more.

On that note, what qualifies as voiding the warranty, just messing with processor/gpu? Ram and drives are ok right?

You can still get one, keep in mind most people post because they have a reason to post. A lot of satisfied people aren't posting because they have no real reason to...

Maybe we should open a poll thread and see how many are satisfied vs dis-satisfied. Of course, it wouldn't be entirely accurate. I'm sure there are plenty who don't even look at forums, etc.

hard drive, rams and optical drive should be ok. it doesn't take a genius to change those parts so warranty should still be good. don't hold me to this though. i'm just saying that the problems that can occur is very limited. when i get my laptop back, im going to install the blu ray drive. got it on ebay for $70shipped. it is the panasonic uj-120 2x blu ray player. i'll give updates on how that goes and if it's a good drive or not.

The problem is the unit is discontinued and I feel as though it won't be supported in the future with BIOS updates, VGA drivers, etc. Anyone who has purchased the unit has had to RMA it and that doesn't sit well with me at that price point, even as good as it is.

That's true, and I was hesitant as well. Not everyone has had to RMA though. Hopefully I won't either x.x I've read more than one review where they are reviewing it and know its going to be discontinued, and they seem to suggest its more to do with the fact that asus was giving it a test run to see how they'd fair with this kind of machine. However, i'm sure some of the issues didn't hurt their desicion.

as soon as i get my laptop back, i'll install it first thing and run some blu ray movies on it. then i'll come to this site and post reviews.

oh yea. if i remember correctly, the AA in crysis is only 8 with this laptop, but is suppose to be at 16AA. is this just because of the 4870? or was it just because i had a bad unit? I did max out crysis with 8AA on DX9 and ran about 15fps. does this sound right?

I've had two of them now and not one problem with either - both came pristine in all ways out of the box, and both OC'ed past 2.7ghz. I sold one to a now very happy LAN gamer, and the other is now my primary machine (my i7 Quadfire rig "the blast furnace" now sits dormant for the most part).

From my experience, I'd say go with it, it's been the best $2000 I've spent on a pre-built gaming machine. Some have had a different experience though... hard to gauge how many respective to the happy campers, however. As someone already aptly mentioned, if you're happy, you're most likely not posting on this forum (myself being an exception.)

I compared stock 9.4 driver file and e-wrecked modded 9.4 driver file and it seems that the modded file in question is named m9x... Now i looked closely into the stock 9.7 driver file and there is a very similar file named m9x8 refering to the mobility hd radeon 4870 card... So i think with a bit of work we can get this driver to work for us.....

    1. Remove DVD-multi drive
    2. Align BR Drive with empty slot
    3. Hit vigorously with hammer (or brick if no hammer is available)
    4. Profit

Almost positive there was a photo of the notebook drive when I brought it up yesterday...

got my laptop back today. so far, it didn't boot up. no biggie since i have to erase everything and do raid 0 anyway. the technician that worked on my laptop did a horrible job of putting it back together. the removable panel on the back side of the laptop was not inserted correctly. so installing windows vista ultimate right now.

ill post updates after i install crysis, crysis warhead, prototype, Legendary, Bionic Commando, hellgate london, Call Of Juarez Bound In Blood, dead space, Bioshock, and Burn Out Paradise. ill be back on later tonight. gona run 3dmark 06 and vantage too.

Hey guys. I live in norway and i just got this laptop a week ago, the one with the duo cpu and bluray. Im very pleased with the gaming performance with stock drivers installed. But when browsing the web I get the whitescreen crashes as mentioned in this forum, and others. And I have to do a forced reboot. So I was wondering, have anyone with the same problems been able to fix it? And if I send it to asus for repair, will they be able to fix it? Have anyone got the laptop back from asus with this problem solved?

Ok, I think I got it vics 9.4 installed ok. Both cards read as 4870X2. My only question is, am I supposed to have a 5.5 for Memory(RAM) under system manager? CPU and Primary Hard Drive both have 5.8s and the graphics ones are 5.9.

My windows Experience Index is also rated 5.5

    Nothing is overclocked...

Although the Windows Experience Index is horribly curved at this point in time and is a terrible benchmark for performance, I noticed that after overclocking (note I have a Q9000 in mine) the processor from 2.0GHz to 2.6GHz, my RAM score went from 5.5 to 5.9, which is the highest score as far as I know. Hope this helps.

Question, the W90Vp-X2 on Newegg is 2x4870 512mb for a total of 1024, right? Just trying to compare it to the M17 with it's 2x4850 1GB cards. Thanks!

hmm the W90 4870 is 512M .... but because of Xfire , it will only use one vram on one of the card(which is 512m ) not both 1GB , same as 4850 1GB , it will only use 1 vram of the card.

Ah, interesting. Most SLI cards list it as combining both vram in their specs so I assumed it was the same here. Thanks!

well im done testing in games. looks like i will be selling after all. i am disappointed. the w90 has too many driver issues with newer games. Bionic Commando is full of screen tears and huge screen rips and sometimes blackouts. it is best for me to sell it now, before it drops more in price. crysis ran very well though, at high settings i was getting 40-50 FPS.

crysis warhead didn't run so well, and had too much screen tearing. both GPUs are working but i'm sick and tired of the 4870's not properly updated. it was a swing and a miss with this laptop.(for me) gona post it up in the sales thread. how much can i get for it? only had it for 4 days, then RMAed it.

Ok, so I ran 3dmark06. My graphics tests seem great...but the cpu ones were all at 0-1 fps...anyone know why that might happen?
