Right. It seems that different things trigger it for different people.

Does a 2D burn in test trigger it though ?

As a fellow TF2 player, may I ask, out of curiosity, what your video settings look like? Perhaps I can help compare.

1080p - max everything, no bloom, no motion blur.

Im going to fool around with it a bit now and see if i cant find a way to get back to that 100+ constant fps i seemed to have at times. And thanks for the tip quad :)

Can you guys recommend a 2d game for me to try? Preferably a demo or something i can download. Ill do a 2d burn in sometime soon. Need mah tf2 fix after dealing with family for thanksgiving all day today >.<

    Jagged Alliance 2

    brunetto_1970
First of all, enable Disable the "Disable 2nd video card" in BIOS.
Then enable Catalyst AI in Catalyst Control Center.

Run BurnIn Test and select Video RAM test. It crashes for some users (me too).
Run a 2D game (like Jagged Alliance 2) and see if it has mad flickering.

Then disable Catalyst AI and do the same.

3DMark can identify whether XFire is on.
You should get ~9000 points when it's off & ~12000 when it's on (without OC).

2d burnin + browsing this site crashed me. Crossfire isnt working since i uninstalled ccc 9.4 but i have no flickering. Still cant get 9.9 to install properly but right now im pulling 80-100+ fps in tf2 so im not worrying about it right now.

If anyone cares to explain how to install catalyst 9.9 that would be fantastic tho.

I'm not sure why the 9.9 is not installing for you. Downloaded it from ati.com (catalyst only, no driver) and ran the install. If there are further problems, try uninstalling any current catalyst first, then try again.

Tried again but the install stopped as usual only after installing the CIM (catalyst install manager). I think their should be a second window that opens up to install ccc but it just doesnt -.-

Edit: Tried using the full package with driver as well to see if it would install. Still nothing -.-

    This link: www.tiltedmill.com/forums/

Crashed my w90vp-A1by giving me the striped black and white screen followed by a blank screen as well in IE 8 and IE8-64bit but not in Firefox 3.5.3 - the computer didn't shut down I just couldn't see anything and it didn't seem to respond to function controls to make it go to sleep

UPDATED: firefox 3.5.3 eventually crashed from that page too but I had to grab the browser vertical scroll bar and scroll fast up and down on the page for a moment then my w90vp-a1 crashed the same way as with IE8, striped screen, followed by blank screen, requiring manual restart of the system

DOES ANYONE WHO HAS INSTALLED WINDOWS 7: on this machine to replace the windows vista know if windows 7 helps this display crash problem any or makes it worse or remains the same?

Thanks for the heads up on 9.9, it installed fine on my machine.

For the heck of it, I bench marked with 3DMark06 (I know it's not the best test but it is all I have on the machine now) with Catalyst A1 disabled and with it enabled. There was approx 2,200 point increase with it enabled.

Hey everyone, I am selling my W90vp-X1 on the for sale forums. Its never needed to be RMA'd and has run perfectly since day one. I am selling because I never have the time to use it and it deserves to be used! Hop over and check it out. Thanks for everyone's input over the months on these boards.

Could someone run PassMark Performance Test x64 - RAM Test:
    http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm
    and post your results.
My Vista will only give 5.3 score for RAM now... Just wanna compare other test results.

I have windows 7 installed (64 bits). The link you posted does not make me crash. but i noticed that some site do make me crash in the way you descruib in IE 8 after a CLEAN INSTALL, but once flash and java are installed the same site don't crash anymore.

As for CCC 9.9 it does not work 100% it crash/acting up when you try to plug to a external monitor/tv via HDMI. but CCC and drivers 9.4 work fine with all my games brand new ones and older one.

i use my w90vp a lot at work for surfing (part of my job) and do't crash at all

I have a question for anyone oc'ing their cpu with setfsb. Is it possible to make a batch file to have it slowly increased up to 2.6 so that I don't have to manually move the slider and run the program every time I start my computer? I love the extra speed and responsiveness of oc'ing it however I find I don't do it much of the time as I usually forget to open setfsb and the occasional time I move the slider too much at once and freeze my computer and have to do a hard reboot? I love my w90 but part of me wishes I waited for the i7 chips as they are smoking fast. Oh well, I still have the upperhand on graphics over most other laptops.

On another note, I guess we'll see if Asus does anything with the GPU drivers when win7 releases in a week. There's going to be quite a few people not very happy if win7 is only recognizing one card.

Hey thanks man, that worked. I had to set it to i4 as anything higher would freeze it, however it works well. What does the w01 stand for? I figured out that the s300, or whatever determines the amount of overclock and the i10 is the interval it goes up at.

Does anyone know how to make a batch file for gpu tool as well to automatically run and increase the clock speeds whenever my computer boots up? Similar to what I've done with setfsb.

In case anyone wants to make the OC process easier, I created a shortcut file for setfsb with tvachev's help. All I did was create a shortcut to setfsb and then under properties I used the following line:

    'setfsb.exe -w01 -s347 -i4 -b1 -cg[ICS9LPRS929AKLF]'

I then added this shortcut file to my startup folder so it will run every time my computer starts. Basically what this does is set my overclock at about 2.6, and it runs in the background. The clock increase is gradual enough at i4 that it doesn't freeze my computer, and it take about 30 secs to reach the 2.6. 2.6 seems to be a stable number for me, I've had a couple freezes in the 2.7 range.

Hope this helps some people, I'm certainly happy to have sorted this out so I don't have to manually run the program each time I start my computer. Now I'm just trying to do the same with my gpu.

I disabled UAC in Vista. I use zonealarm firewall and spybot so I seem to be well protected without UAC on. I've turned down the overclock to about 2.55 since I had a couple freezes in the 2.6 range. Play around with the 3xx number until you hit a stable point with it.

Also, under the properties line, I just added the extras at the end of the default shortcut, ie. c:\overclock\setfsb\setfsb.exe -w01 -s347 -i4 -b1 -cg[ICS9LPRS929AKLF] , or whatever folder you have it in.

I think it's time that we got some media attention put directly into Asus' face. I want everyone who owns a w90vp to go to your favorite website and link this thread. Explain to every single news source, be it the NY Times or Drudge Report how Asus created a 3k laptop that claimed to have crossfire, that then didn't. Then, instead of fixing their broken machines in a recall or by coming out with drivers, they simply axed the production of the machine and pretended it never existed.

Let the press go after them for screwing over a few thousand people out of serious money and maybe, just maybe, we'll get an official fix to this.

Seriously, if you own any version of the w90vp you owe it to yourself to make sure that someone knows about this Asus screwup. Either they were negligent and not skilled enough to make a fix for their obviously messed up hardware OR they knew it was messed up and sold it anyways.

    Go get em!

PS the New York Times Tech Editor is at [email protected]

You really think ASUS cares...no they dont, either does GENTECH or XOTICPC. They made their money and basically told all us who bought one to screw off.

Well, I will never again buy ASUS or anything from XOTICPC or GENTECH. And I will do all I can to tell others how ASUS , XOTICPC and GENTECH scrwed over.

    Come on wwoods...

If you don't like the W90, dump it and get something else.

If you don't want to do that, just be happy the W90 was discontinued and stop bringing this up.

We get it that you absolutely hate those companies. Constantly complaining about it isn't helping and is not going to help.

Correct, there are no windows7 drivers as of today, and by the conversation I had with one of the drones who answers the support line, there are no eta's for one...basically, ASUS has said to us "Bend over...here it comes"

It would be crazy if the M17x did indeed have GDDR3, but I have a feeling that it's really GDDR5...

Either way, hopefully the AW vbios can help us. ;)

Who would buy it? Do you want him to lie to the potential buyer and not disclose the crossfire defect?

BTW, I feel the same way. ASUS misrepresented their product and we are stuck with a 3k laptop that is not working properly.

well if it is 3 then you have a higher chance of it working for your cards. :)

you may have to change the name to asus instead of dell in the vendor part though.

Lie? About what? Crossfire works fine.

There are plenty of people out there who'd be more than willing to purchase a used W90 and be happy with it (despite whatever quirks it might have).
