But does the 4850 have the Fluxcapacitor like the 4870? What happens when you hit 88mhz?

The mobile 4870s do at least use a 256 bit memory bus, right?
-
That, or the Libyan terrorists get you. -
Hmm... I suppose the difference is something ATI will reveal later? Remember those fancy comparisons at CES? They showed the 4870 running like 30% faster than the 4850? Or something close to that.. Must be the clock speeds I guess. But, if you OC the 4870 then the 4850 shouldn't be able to touch it eh? Kinda like how the 8800m GTX can come close to the 9800m GTX when OC'd.. just not when the 9800 is OC'd too. I just wanna see some results from the GDDR5 4870!
-
we all would like to see that one E!
-
problem also is..it's a part of your video card stirker
-
How would one go about finding the latency of the DDR3 RAM on the 4870s?
-
Ok.. this article mentions the differences between ddr3 and ddr5 performance wise: http://gpucafe.com/2009/03/ati-already-using-5ghz-gddr5/
This one shows a comparison of the 4k Series, and also says the DDR5 release date is April. Claims the vantage score for a 4860 is P55** and the 4830 is P45**
http://gpucafe.com/2009/03/meet-the-rv740m97/
Anyhow..just some comparisons - take em for what they are worth. -
Yawn !!!!!!!!
-
apparently E from the test we have ran. the 4850m is better than the 4870m's. under the same conditions. but wont know for sure till someone runs a single 4870m.
failsal has pretty high scores for a single 4850m
-
oh.. so why hasn't someone done that? what are these people doing?
-
I'm pretty sure there was a single GPU run, however, it might have been a buggy run.
-
card ran glitch free in single card mode...some where i seen that in here....
-
From my own tests, my 4870 running at 1800 MHz effective memory (GDDR3 speeds) is only 77% as fast (19.8 FPS versus 25.6 FPS) as my 4870 running at 3600 MHz effective memory (GDDR5 speeds) running Crysis 1680x1050 Very High. Considering how 1920x1200(1050) uses even more memory bandwidth than 1680x1050, consider that a low estimate of the performance gap.

Available @ Newegg again...ready.... steady.... GO!!!

Just received my BD-ROM/DVD-RW drive from Faze Computers.
http://www.fazecomputers.net/servlet/the-71/CT10N/Detail
Got it installed in the W90 and I'm now watching WALL-E on Blu-ray
FYI, the Asus Touch Media software that comes loaded on the W90vp-X1 also plays blu-ray discs, so extra software isn't required. -
hope that is better clarification.
-
We probably won't see that for at least a week or two. Even if no further problems show up in the immediate future, you can't really label a system stable overnight. -
What the hell Newegg just sent me an email, stating that it will take up to 2 weeks!!! They only had like 3 in stock??!!! Man I'm seriously thinking of gettin Sager with 280m now......

If you don't mind me asking

Very hypocritical how people only complain that this thread is going off topic when the GDDR3 vs. GDDR5 topic comes up.
Simple truth is with the lock-up issues being handled this thread becomes the best place to deal with the subject since the W90 owners are the only ones that can run the benchmarks to settle things.
RK Computers have several 3DMark results for the Mobility 4850 in the MSI-GT725 to compare against:

jamiee
how do you like your ASUS W90VP-X1
i have some questions if you dont mined answering them
does your screen have any bleeding? how does br look? does it play well?
do you have good range and connetebility on wifi?
thank you -
The W90's drive faceplate has one in the middle that's a bit tricky to unlatch because it's hard to see.
Other than that the drive swap is simple. Basically one screw on the bottom of the notebook holds the drive in place. Once the screw is removed the drive will easily slide out with just a gentle tug.
I haven't seen any colour bleeding or obvious ghosting on the screen (in fact it seems to have a fairly quick response time).
The very bottom portion of the screen does have a bit of light bleed, but it's tolerable and I suspect has more to do with the back lighting layout than anything else.
Blu-ray looks excellent and plays back smooth on the W90 - no complaints here (This was using the Asus Media Touch software).
Wifi range seems pretty good, but I haven't had a lot of chance to test this out yet.

You get that thing delivered yet? -

Lol that is hilarious, great work vicious

YESSSSS.I have finally ordered my W90. Its kinda ironic how i would casually go to the newegg website on the w90 page and just randomly stare at the specs. And today when i went online to newegg (knowing the asus w90 would'nt be available), there it was, the good ol "add to cart" button and i ordered it. I am soo happy. Also since i live in NJ, after placing the order, it said expected arrival time is 1 business day. Hope i dont get any problems with it in regards to the bios. BTW have the newer shipments of the w90 solved the problem and include the updated bios???

I cant get the X1 just dont see it being worth it. Im waiting for Gentech to get the A1 in.

Id gladly ripped out my BR drive and traded it to you for your DVD drive and like $30 as I will never use it. For some people just having it a few weeks early alone is worth it but just wonder if everybody understands the sacrifice you make getting the X1 instead of the A1.
Im sure there will be one or two models after the A1 shortly that make the A1 owners curse at the wind though lol, probably some hdd ugprade or cpu upgrade or something for cheaper.
Seems to be the trend of the late with Asus, releasing a decent model at green and waiting for a lap to release the real deal at a even better price. -
He bought a Blu ray writer, but i tell ya what, if i order the EGG version id be happy to swap with you Vicious .

Sale pending as we speak for my G50V, soon as it goes through I'll pre-order the W90.
Though I am a bit skeptical of the buyer, just moved to the states.. and only 10 posts on the forums... I guess as long as his paypal is verified its ok. -
Ya i saw him asking about how to contact you in your for sale thread . Hope everything go's well . So once his paypal is verified can he still pull a fast one on you ? im not to familiar with the in's and out's of the Paypal .

I think its ok, if not I'll have to go cry at Gentechs door step and beg them for a beatup laptop so I have something to use. -
Was able to finally order.... also ordered new Sager 5797 to compare(give one of them to my friend, he asked me to get a gaming lappy for him). 2800 for Sager with 280m and 2200 for W90!!! Sager is almost 3 weeks out, apparently.
We'll see.... -
Hey all, I'm going to be getting a laptop soon for graduation and I was wondering what the battery life is like on these things. Obviously it isn't meant to be very portable but is it that difficult to take around? I don't anticipate taking it off the desk too often so it should be a non-issue but I am curious about the battery life. Oh and one more thing, has the lock-up issue been fixed? I read some reviews on Newegg that made it seem so.

Can we be friends? LOL -
People were saying like an hour or so on battery give or take . The lockups seem to be a thing of the past and Asus has handled everything very fast for others who had the problems. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Carring it around in a backpack should not be too bad, but in a hand bag I imagine it would get heavy fast.
Battery life, I really would not put high hopes here I imagine even an hour would be stretching it. Its got a lot of power sucking high end parts in it and a big screen. Well it does have a really big battery so I guess it can do an hour pretty easy.
I wanna say somebody said about 1.5 hours somewhere in this thread.
This thing should be looked at as if it were a desktop on the go, nothing more and nothing less.
If you want high mobility & high battery life I can not recommend to you higher a nice netbook like the EEE 1000 series. -
High mobility is not a factor nor is battery life, I was merely curious just in the rare event that I did need to take it away from the power plug LOL. I still haven't quite decided if I want to get this though...I don't have any experience with Asus and 18.4 is REALLY big. I was looking at the G71 but its practically the same price for a lot less laptop. -
It'll set you back less than $2000 and you'll have a laptop that does what a laptop should do (Be portable, small, good battery, and still have HDMI [I'm picky]), and your desktop will game better than this thing ever will and it'll be on a 24" monitor.
That's my tip. College students don't need boat sized gaming laptops, take my experienced advice. -
I would truly consider that, the only problem being that my gpa is ordering the laptop for my grad present. If I were to buy a desktop I'd really want it to be built by me and I don't think he had buying a bunch of components and then a small netbook in mind when he offered to buy me a laptop ya know? It is quite the compelling idea though...
