HMMM I see no reason the X2 thing will mess up the driver install but I may try it. As if that was the case atleast the master card would be flashing flashing the slave to master should have no effect on it.

Right now what has me most worried is not the W90 but that I just tried to log into my hotmail account and it says I have no inbox, just a live account...

I hope its some crazy server error and nobody got into my email and deleted it or something.

BTW I already know whats going to happen if I flash both to master I will have a CC with no option to turn on the crossfire and be stuck with one card lol I am almost postive but I should be able to flash back.

well picking the 2nd inf file and the 2nd card option worked even though the 1st inf and 1st option did not I think I just updated my drivers

edit: worked on first (master) but not 2nd (slave) code 43

However my CC says 9.4 for driver version, since its a master/slave maybe only the master needs the drivers.

 

you will be able to flash back.. and how sure are you bout them not lettin you go crossfire? you may just need the right driver..

EDIT I know it 43's - quad was trying for me.. thus the master/master idea.

 

Trying it as is, looks like it got worse performance the one game I expected the biggest gains crysis dx10 went from 20fps average down to about 15.

Well I am gonna try this Master/Master flash now, hopefully the machine lives as I have no way to flash it back outside windows right now.

edit: yep just one card in my CCC there is a primary and no linked adapter. so thats why I had the hit on FPS, but losing only 5fps for a whole card is not bad lol.

Cant even open winflash with the cards like this, the 2nd card is error 43 in the device manager so I guess it wont open, so first I have to change the drivers back.

out of curiousity..what would happen if you installed my modded inf, and when Vista code 43s the second driver, you go thru dev manager and disable the first? Would the 2nd re-enable itself? I know that if you shut off one card via BIOS the driver installs fine on the single card in Vista.. so, what if we back into it?

 

Looks like 9.x did improve things. You'll need to run it at 1680x1050 for a direct comparison with those GTX 280s. Nontheless, you are already scoring higher than it even with a higher resolutions. But to be fair, that GTX 280M only has a 800mhz memory clock and the standard 179.xx desktop/mobile drivers.

 

Ok the program opened finally after I changed the drivers but I changed it to one of my moded infs lol so it was not the stock driver still.

I flashed my slave to a master.

rebooted

installed your .inf on the main card - went fine

installed your .inf on the old slave card - saw the screen flash like it was working then black screen of death that did not go away.

did a hard reboot and I am greeted with what seems to be a working setup.

there is no crossfire option, however the cards are still linked as 4870x2.

My crysis test was 22fps vs 20 fps not sure if I had a gain or if thats margin for error.

Some strange things though, when I read the cards for a bios flash my master is reported as the name of your moded .inf but the old slave is still the old RV770/M98 tag.

In CCC they are both reported as your .inf name.

I cant tell if the new drivers are on both cards or not. I assume so?

I need to track down why the 2nd option in the have disk method works (the 2nd card listed) and not the first. That means one of your edited entries for the .inf is correct and the other is not. mine did not work I got a driver is not for vista error even though I know how to mod drivers.

Both cards are definitly masters now as the checksum matches my old master bios, I forgot to flash my edited bios with the higher overdrive limits on it though
But since I think that 2nd card is about to bite the dust maybe its for the better.

Just one loop 2.7ghz on the cpu with stock 550/850 clocks on the gpu's

Well then suppose its working, so now just to tie the directions and your .inf's into my moded bios .bin files and the beta setfsb program into one package.

Let you overclock cpu, let you overclock gpu, let you use new drivers all in one go.

I say we concord the W90 pretty fast.

So let me go reflash my 2nd gpu to my overdrive bios and give crysis another run overclocked on the gpu with 3 runs and see what we get.

 

wait man.. does it show both GPUs working in dev mgr? also, does 3dmark run in crossfire?

my vantage is corrupted I think, and 3dmark06 is all cpu bound to hell.

I just did my last Crysis test 41.76 fps average 1920x1080 DX9 maxed out, so its cpu bound as well.

I'll try Vantage again to see if its working for some reason.

 

No problem, it was a effort on everybodies part, I think my edited .infs were not going to work not sure why though. Also I need to discover why on both my infs and yours you get double listings for selections and why only the 2nd choice worked for yours.

I guess because there are two .inf files and even though I pointed to a specific one it reads from both of them. I could just edit the name of the entry on one of them to confirm that.

Now we seriously need to put together the enthusiast kill your W90 thread to share all these tools

Disclaimers are always fun. They typically warn you of a good time ahead.. Can you please throw down a quick how-to flash for Quad? Just the programs used, etc.. nothing fancy needed for now.

P10451 is what I got on the performance test in vantage.

It may be cpu bound with a low resolution like that so going to try high next.

I cant do extreme as I do not have an external monitor handy that can do 1920x1200 but I may run a custom test for 1920x1080.

For the flashing just use the newest gpu-z to rip the bios from your cards (the little save icon on the program when you first open it)

Then get the newest version of winflash from techpowerup.com to flash the bios with.

The checksum for the primary is 9000 I think and the slave 9300.

You can also get the newest version of RBE (radion bios editor) if you wish to do some other more advanced things like change the voltage of the card, the speed, ect.

I plan to package my already modified bios with the increased overdrive limits with the moded .infs into one easy to use package with all the programs at some point.

I'll be gone for a big Vantage takes forever to run, I guess all it needed was a reboot to fix the corruption?

As for my card going out, that cant be the case it overclocks and it plays every game it just the menu screens and some low 3d stuff that bounces to the left, so its like just one part of the card is messed up but its not the high 3d side for sure.

I hate to RMA and get a unit back not as good as this one, but at the same time I do not really want to live with that problem as it effects some games in game like warcraft 3.

edit: other W90 Owners please run vantage P & H modes (performance & high) if you can so we can compare.

Viciuos: Do you have a serious temp increase with that 700mhz overclock on your q9000?

 

H7427 is what I got for the high test.

 

Na mhz do not really increase temp just voltage and the quad core uses the same cores as the dual core and thats why I knew the lower mhz quad was going to server me better than the higher clocked dual.

Leaves more headroom to grow, only issue with laptop overclocking is the locked ram multi and limited voltage/cooling for really high end overclocking.

the 2.7ghz has been stable with no voltage increase though I usually toss on turbo gear overclock mode for the volt increase just for the heck of it.

 

Yeah flash both to master its the 9300 checksum.

if you want I can email you my bios and you can flash to both your cards for the overdrive increase.
