so just let me get this straight, you oc your fsb to get the 2.7ghz clock, so what does the turbogear add when used with this clock? just additional voltage?

 

Curious.. What happens if you flash the slave bios to what used to be the master? Do you mind tryin Vicious? It would be interesting to see if that makes any difference. Maybe asus is installing em backwards. Please give it a go? If it doesn't work, at least it would take away that variable.

 

Yep a nice little increase in voltage to ensure stability though I think this cpu would be stable past 3ghz and its my ram causing me to lose stability around 2.85ghz

Master should mean its an independent card and can boot on its own, if I have two slaves I wont boot and I have yet to take open the W90 to see if those cards are identical so that I could swap them around.

We got what we needed so I consider the test done.

Im saying if its slot dependant and the cards are phsiically different that my machine wont boot and I wont be able to swap my flashed master into its place to boot with.

Im sure they are the same but again risk/no reward and I have no thermal compound or tools to fix it if it breaks.

everything worked great except the 9.4 ccc installs but wont show up so i have no control . First run@very high with no control over the CCC is 28.5fps

 

hello everyone. So I have been playing with my W90vp-X1 for a couple of days now. Does anyone here have the the crossfire tab enabled in ATI CCC or is it just me. I think its running crossfire in my games etc but the CCC doesn't even show it. Any help to a n00b would be great.

 

No just look for the hardware tab and for it to say "linked adapter" for the 2nd card.

Its not being run as "crossfire" its being run as a 4870x2

 

did you uninstall or install a new CCC? I left the old one there and did not touch it. I did recall some issue on other threads for other systems with updating the drivers past a certain # with the CCC

Ya i uninstalled rebooted safemode ,driver cleaner etc . ill have to see if i can just install the old CCC without having to install the old drivers .

 

Should be able to with a custom install, if not its only a minute of work to change the drivers again.

Im broke right now and with 2.75ghz I see no reason to upgrade for now. Maybe after my RMA when I start digging down for video work and stuff.
Im gonna be might sad if my new unit does not do as well as this one, of course maybe I will get one that does better.

Well now that i can move forward with new drivers etc ill probably start my machine out with a clean slate with new drivers and the bare minimum as that and SETFSB were the only things holding me back and since those are out of the way time to move ahead. The Qx9300 i was going to buy tomorrow has now been snatched up so ill be sitting on this dual core for awhile it looks like /sigh but oh well you cant have everything .




Picked up another frame or so from the 9.4s and after the clean install etc ill know more . Now i can test all my other games ive played thus far and since im a FRAPs whor* i know my game framerates very well so if there was a marked improvement ill be able to tell .

 

Crysis is the only game not in the 100's for me so more frames is a moot point

I guess I should try Warhead, but I actually think I will pack this up and RMA it when I get off work today. The sooner the better maybe so I dont get too attached or too many programs/games on here.

Nope i did the custom install as you suggested then just picked the CCC and all is well .

And now that we can install all the drivers ill be going back and testing 9.1-9.3 as well . I just played GTA4 my true benchmark for how well a computer runs games and it was much much smoother on the 9.4s as well as Fallout 3 .

 

GTA4 I think I should look into that game, never really played the old ones much but I am not a big console fan (other than SNES, Dreamcast, Wii) I have GRID that I never played much either

One question, what speed is the ram currently in there? Im guessing its pc6400 (i could probably find it but i dont want to click back pages all night) but just not decent chips like ocz hence the holding back of the overclocks? Ive found some 2gb sticks of ocz 6400 for 33$ a pop CAD, thinking about adding them to my w90 if the ram really is an overclocking issue as i plan on a qx9300 down the line

I'm looking for a QX9300 and I saw you in the W90Vp thread"), sorry, I only have one OEM QX9300 left after the one sold to Str1ker, and it's reserved for my Whitebook arriving tomorrow....If I have to surf on this Dell D630 one more minute while I'm laptopless, I'm going to go bonkers....

grab the ocz vertex for the same money and better overall performance. 128 gb for like 350 bucks.
getting ready to get like 6 more drives tomorrow for a few of my clients. they were not impressed with the patriot though...lol

 

Few observations on some more games since installing 9.4s .

Mirrors Edge on 8.12s this game did not work on crossfire so average was 25 fps now its 45 right from the save spot i had last . Godfather 2 driving around in the car 8.12s 25-30 now 55-60 . Tombraider Underworld from jumping off the boat near the first level 8.12 was 40 under water now its 80s . Some crazy crazy gains to say the very least . Ok now in 2 games so far i had some whacky screen flickering corruption not sure what to even call it, Saints Row2 via Steam Gets some crazy scrolling lines after about 2 minutes of gameplay that remain in the menu even till i quit the game and Tomb Raider also had something similar . So im not sure if its the flashing of the cards (doubt it as i tried about 15 games) or the old CCC some how screwing with the drivers . Either way the gains i saw tonight have left my jaw on the floor and ill leave you with this one shot which im not sure how it stacks up but i was pretty impressed .

Its to bad theres no 64bit benchmark for this game because there is a 64bit executable now they added into the last patch.

k i know what i did the first time i thought i ran it in DX10 , first i ran it DX9 then when the bench finished i saw the button on Dx9 so clicked the Dx10 but never added back to the Que so it reran Dx9 ..
