I would be rather careful with the SSD drives.

They are known to run MUCH hotter. (i.e. as much as 40 degrees warmer with heavy disk access).

I would hate to see anyones W90 reduced to a molten heap of plastic.

    :)

Word. Thanks again for all you've contributed Quad, keep up the good work! I'm about two breaths away from picking one of these up now that the bugs are completely worked out(hopefully).

I'm torn. Even tho they're a pain in the arse sometimes, Ati has started growin on me. I guess their minor faults and flaws are also part of their endearing charm. It would prolly be wise for me to wait another month or so on the M98. Just for the sake of not making an expensive mistake.

yeah, where is quad? for that matter where is xusmc. now that this thing is near fully operational. we can finally get to the real numbers.

    Superjoe

will use any program available to test these drives. to help people feel more comfortable about purchasing one. so suggest away.

    martins2012

no one said it was playable..just what it could do at that given resolution and setting... :)
we are benchmarking only...game play is pretty much completely different... :)

Just rolled out of the sack a few minutes ago, long day yesterday. I was dreaming about quadcores go figure .

Ya the single card run was just a comparison , the only people that will have to run it at those speeds are people with out 2 cards in there rig .

John, no suggestions, I was just curious as I had never seen the program (CrystalDiskMark, that is). I've run it on my P7811FX for S's and G's.

I'm expecting an A1 from Xotic to ship around the 22nd. When I get it I'm going to bench the hard disks from the factory and then in a RAID 0 array, only because I have never personally run RAID.

As an aside, I intend to order a QX9300 ES as well when the A1 ships. I'm overseas at an APO address, but if I get it all together first, I'll be glad to be a guinea pig.

No work tonight so may find a dark spot in the house somewhere where the kids cant find me and do some work on my W90.

May as well flash the bios with a higher voltage and see if I can push the clocks up, that will help my H Vantage score.

Also may take out some of the ram and test just one stick at a time, this gives me a better chance to push my cpu clocks higher.

    no worries superjoe.
    pretty real examples:
    benchmark only!
single drive 62 megs and drops from there (5400 rpm)
raid0 about 110 to 120 megs then drops from there (5400)
single ssd (real drive) can average in the 200+ meg range and may drop 10 megs
raid ssd 400+ megs <-- im going to test this over the weekend

and programs all open with lighting speed. 0.1 access times beats a 17.3 any day of the week..including the drives that stutter. (even though they make you mad as hell..lol (patriot 128gb ssd was killing me!)

Actually today would be a good day to shrink my C: into two partitions and install Windows 7, see if performance is boosted in Win7 but not sure I have enough time to do all that work for drivers and things.

can we see some in high mode or extreme mode please?

i think it's time for all us high end laptop owners to try and make a break from standard resolutions and start running in the resolutions we ALL BRAG ABOUT RUNNING IN 1680x1050/1920x1080/1920x1200. these should be where ati does better. this is where the 8x and higher MSAA is used along with higher resolutions.

just a suggestion.... and only for people who paid for the program. :)

No luck for Win 7, I get the black screen bug that has to do with multiple monitors.

I googled it and tried the only fix I can find, you have to boot in safe mode and create a .bat file to turn off the process that turns on multi monitor. However its during the install so I just get the error "can not complete instilation in safe mode"

I though I had a good idea, booted in Vista created the .bat file and put it where it goes but no luck. I just boot to a totally black screen with the Win 7 watermark on the bottom right. I think its booting into double wide mode as I can scroll way off screen to the left.

Probably because of the dual video cards (even more so for one being master and one slave) actually I guess I can kill a card in bios and that may work so I will try that now.

    Edit: A - HA! working!

That was a smart move im even patting myself on the back for that one :p

Ya i should have mentioned that i disabled one in the bios to get it working on the latest build and then enabled it . the last build did not have this problem because the ATI drivers were not part of it.

Update: one more important thing when doing the have disk part for driver update updating just the first card updated drivers on the 2nd card too, thats how I had them installed on both cards in the past without ever getting it to work on the 2nd card.

My .inf calls the Cards "Meow2" lol so when I updated the 1st card and the 2nd card name & driver changed to "Meow2" it was pretty obvious.

    Also first Win 7 issues.

    - Turbogear wont install/work

    - I have both adapters there now after installing the old CCC but its just primary & secondary not linked aka no crossfire.

Im thinking of flashing back to a slave card, after the drivers have installed it may just work, or maybe just use the old drivers.

Edit2 - After taking off that .bat file I had in startup, installing the turbogearvga driver, and a reboot they are linked! :p

Not sure what fixed it, im thinking maybe that turbogear vga driver is what links them.

K here is how to flash the cards

Open GPU-Z, over on the right that little green card button click it and highlight "save as" and name it M981.

Now click the tab at the bottom and switch it to your second card and click the same green card button and save as again. Name that one M982.

Now open Winflash (download it from http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1364/mirrors.php) and click on the top where i numbered it Step 1 so it changes it to the secondary card choice .

Then Load the image from where ever you saved M981 it should say current Vbios 0x9000 and new Vbios 0x9300.

Click Program and just wait , your mouse will freeze for a second so dont have a heart attack as its just doing its thing and dont mess with your PC during this time . it will take a minute or so to finish and Voila your all set . Reboot . It will reinstall your ATI Hmdi audio and now you can load the latest E-wrecked 9.4 infs into the 9.4s you download from ATI . When you get them from ATI.com just download the drivers itself and not the whole package as you will have to use your current control panel from 8.12 Asus drivers.

Hope this is accurate enough but its actually a very simple process all said.

    E-wrecked 9.4 infs
    http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.com/ATI94Asus4870.zip

Place these in your C:\ATI\Support\9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF folder and point them at the lowest number INF . From the have disk method through the device manager . You should Uninstall the old package from ASUS then reboot and run driver sweeper (just google it ) in safe mode . then reboot back to windows and install them like i said above . After this is all done go back to where you ASUS M98 drivers are and run the exe file and choose custom installation and uncheck the drivers portion of the install so it just installs the ATI control panel . Your done .

Edit: Had no idea i had hit my sound button while taking the snapshot of winflash so just ignore it :)

Ya i had it running late last night just didnt post anything on it as i didnt think much about it TBH . Were still taking some baby steps here so i didnt want to rush over to Win7 ideas etc . i rebooted into win7 with already having E-wreckeds 9.4s installed and it already had found the card properly then all was peachy. I already had turbo gear installed on that end so everything seemed kosher as far as crossfire etc.

    turbogear vga?

or the cpu turbogear? as I can not get the cpu one working.

Im not sure what else may not be wrong I only have the essentials installed right now, not of the extra asus programs or the media key drivers and stuff. Not even the ATK stuff.

edit: lol looks like the crysis bench wont work on win 7, it does not start the time demo instead it just starts the game.

Ya just the turbo gear VGA as the CPU does not work , i think its more because its an unsigned driver then anything else. Ill look into getting unsigned crud to work on Win7 later ,i really dont want to invest alot of time on the beta OS for now because the gains from Win7 probably wont be all that substantial just yet and we can use SETFSB still in Win7.
