Ah thanks Quad.... I had already figured it out using Just Winflash on its own and I guess while you were posting the instructions, I was busy flashing the cards BIOS :)

Anyway flashing the 2nd card as Master indeed works!

    Here's the proof:

I'm confused a bit here, trying to understand all that was done by Vicious and Quad, but my little brain is not keeping up. I'll be rereading I guess...

Hating UPS at the moment, seating at the window from 10am, where is my TOY!!!

Figured it out Win 7 UAC is different than Vista I have it turned down but not off so the program was not run as admin.

Anybody know how to do the equivalent of turning off UAC on Win 7 so everything has admin rights?

Or maybe all the way down is off and I just needed a reboot. Anyways 1920x1080 maxed out DX10 x64 Crysis Bench running now, looking to beat 24fps average. Its artifacting bad too, I think updating the game should fix it. Or rather its not artifacts but the famous Crysis flickering textures like clouds and some distant objects.

after you run the benchmarks. play the game up to the fire fight in the sand just as ken did. and run fraps. it will flicker but this is just for comparison sake and true game play.
    mine flickered as well.

edit: all the way down is off in windows 7 beta

How much are you overclocking to get over 24fps?

    2.75ghz for dx10 but I get over 40fps in dx9

my first bench went really poor about 15fps average win 7 so performance is way down.

I just updated the game and will try again.

    Meow2 is a good card :p

Ill be trying 9.3s in a minute just to see what i come up with .It seems farcry2 takes a major hit on 9.4 which i noticed in benchmark and this site seems to back up that claim . When i enabled AA the FPS went way down as well but on the 8.12 it went up .

Its great to be able to finally play with this thing like i have been wanting to .

    http://news.ati-forum.de/index.php/testberichte/49-treibertests/375-test-catalyst-93-vs-catalyst-94

Theres a little comparison between the 2 sets of drivers and it seems like most things were on equal ground except FC2 .

Retesting Crysis the GPU overclock did not stick @ 610/955 for some reason, though I doubt it will bring me up from 17fps to 24fps we shall see.

I'll do a DX9 run next just to see how it fairs.

May as well install Vantage again too, wish there was an easier way to run a program other than installing it fresh when its already installed on another partition.

I guess you can if you just know what registry entries to make but I dont know how to do that.

You know I have not noticed that "screen bounce" yet in Win 7 the two places I noticed it the most were Warcraft 3 and the loading screens of Vantage so I def need to install vantage, for all I know it was some really strange software issue and my unit is fine.

Win 7 Crysis DX9 Maxed Out
    610/955 2.75ghz

    Low 21.8
    High 55.67
    Avg 41.26

Thats pretty close to Vista but I was at like 45fps I think at those settings.

You should have been able to run everything from the other partitions that were linked to the other OS . The only thing thus far that didnt run for me in Win7 was Crysis but i didnt bother copying my crysis from mydocuments/mygames folder from my vista64 to see if it would have worked . I also didnt try vantage but ill give it a whirl later . 3d06 was fine i just used the Oal installer which is the openal needed to be put in the right place for 06 to run .

how do you link it? i cant just open it from the other partition

edit nvm it works, this a new feature of win 7? in the past I was never able to open programs on my xp partition on vista without installing them over the same location first, file stay the same but get the registry/install info on the new OS, it caused conflicts with a few games/programs though.

Warcraft 3 and Vantage both opened from my Vista partition in Win 7.

However I do see the "bounce" sill in Win 7 on Vantage so yeah I have a bad card.

Might not be the issue but have you thought about unbolting the GPUs and making sure there seated correctly along with the Crossfire cable .It seems your very happy with your machine so you may want to try a couple things before calling in the RMA .

when i looked at the cards i didnt bother to match the numbers on them but im sure you probably could swap them now .Though in the winflash they still have 2 different names identifying them so its hard to say for sure.

Hmm i wonder why Justin never posted anything about SETFSB and the Qx9300 ? i know he has had it a couple days now and was hoping for some basic idea how far they could push the Qx .Ken from Gentech also has the program now i believe and his machine also has a Qx .

Ya i just meant a few basic tests nothing final by any means but more of a " i got it to 4.8ghz and it was running ice cold under orthos at 50 degrees celcius " that type of thing along with a couple 3dmarks for fun as well.

Not sure why, I have not tried 9.3 only 9.4 but you should have the overclock capability as long as you have the original CCC. Reinstall it with a custom install first.

Also just to make sure we have the basics covered you have to click the unlock overdrive button first :p

Quad had the same problem when he installed the new 9.4 CCC when he installed the old CCC back it was ok.

bad thing about using the old CCC is the ones made for the there set of drivers could be doing magical things that say the 8.12 ones are not and thats a bummer we cant use the ones meant for them.

Well, I'm pretty excited about you guys getting the new drivers up and running on these things. I'm pretty green when it comes to all of this, but I'm trying to learn as I go.

Hopefully I don't reduce my machine to pretty portable heater. ;)

One quick question though, is anyone having a hard time getting WinFlash to launch under Vista 64? It'll launch it's process (ATIWinFlash) and suck up 40% of my processor, but the GUI never actually appears.

Any thoughts? Once again, great job guys!

Are you sure you downloaded the latest version ? if so maybe just try and reboot then try again . i didnt not have that problem though . If all else fails you could try to run it in compatability mode . Right click on the exe and tell it to use Winxp compatible . Its worth a shot ..

What was your cpu speed? I had a higher total number but lower gpu score, Im thinking cpu bottleneck. Or its possible my bad card killed my score a big since I had issues with some of the feature tests.

Jamiee, I'm gonna add some performance tweaks to my inf mod.. There's none in there yet. I'll do that and upload in the next 30 or so.. They always helped with the 3870s.. Hopefully the trend will continue.

Edit: can someone run vantage without overclocking CPU, but push the gpu clocks?

    Sounds good...

I'm running a round of Vantage with CPU @ stock 2.8Ghz and video @ 600/900

Will post when I get back.

Yeah but point being that the cpu is holding back my gpu score aka bottleneck.

I was only at 2.75ghz on the quad, so I had a higher cpu score giving me a total score thats higher but for the gpu parts my raw mhz was not enough to keep up with the gpu for max performance.

1920x1080 custom should take away that bottleneck probably or almost completely at 2.75ghz.

There's no bottleneck being caused by your CPU. Your GPUs are doing all the work for those runs. It's not dx9 3dmark06 where CPU makes a difference.except CPU score. Run it with stock CPU speed then OC and post both screenshots after.

yeah, does seem they are cpu speed dependent...

but i did a test and got the same thing with at 2.4 and at 3.0...
haven't compared them lately though...that was a few months ago.

how about this. What are the scores with everything stock (no CPU or GPU OC) seeing that there is the possibility of the FSB method influencing the GPU scores.

That's what I said less the FSB reasoning :p

Edit; but that's smart.. Try a run using gear to oc, then use setfsb only and run at the same clocks :)

Now how about with no overclocks at all. Nonetheless, it does show influence via the FSB as you went from 10.9 to 10.6

There are different bottle necks though at different points . so say from 2.8 to 3.5 nada then you hit 3.7 to 4.2 and things can change drastically . thats why we need someone with a qx9300 to hit the 3.8 to 4.0 ghz mark to truly know.

or..FSB is also influencing the pci-e which in turn overclocks the GPUs a touch. Which is why I said we should try JUST setFSB and JUST turbo gear with the same CPU clocks, to see if there's a difference.
