yeah, been waiting for someone to pop up with that system...should be soon though...
and that fsb was for amd cpus and not intel...![]()
side note:
also need to get past the 5 percent lock asus has....the whitebook doesn't have this....
also to note.. nvida cards do not handle aa well in a lot of case. seems once aa is enabled, it takes the cards out of sli performance mode and drops them into compatibility mode. (what ever the heck that is or is suppose to mean) if you find info on this, hit me up ichime.

Thanks on all of the Congrats!
I am really looking forward to implement some of the "performance enhancements" you guys have worked on. Thank you guys for putting all of that together. -

As for nVidia AA, nVidia's relative weakness is in MSAA, which is used in most games in their in-game options. That's why nVidia introduced their own methods of anti-aliasing, in CSAA and SLi AA. I think some games use these and if not, I'm sure nVidia has a option for that in their forceware. -
^^^^
and that there..im not even gonna comment on..just sit here and laugh my azz off. litterally.!
so...what did you get -

3400ish gpu score I posted it here remember?
but now I will run with 4x AA tonight and see what happens.
Anyways gonna try to turn in, I have like 4 hours to sleep before I have to go to work and I have been up all day since I got off work this morning.
Id still like a screen from you of the extreme presets so I know 100%. -
aight, sounds good.
im still working..will be working for the next 10 to 12 hours. -
Here's three Vantage runs from yesterday all same settings only CPU overclock used for the 2nd and third runs.
1.
CPU = 2.8GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10573
2.
CPU = 3.06GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10805
3.
CPU = 3.29GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10975 -

, but with 3400ish...it's cool..i don't need to see it.
jamie:
nice. looking good!! -
What's the chance someone is going to actually software OC the GPUs a decent amount and runVantage? This is killing me! 50-60 mhz? Cmon.. Pump core 100-150 extra and 150-200 on memory. Anyone?
-
Newegg currently shows them in stock.
-
Maybe you missed the part where these carts started artifacting at overclocks any higher than the current ones.

For most benchmarking, many times the settings aren't, "everyday use," settings, so artifacting is the equivalent to a CPU that makes it through benchies but bombs on a 30 min Prime 95 max heat.
As long as the extreme clocks don't impact performance via downclocking/overheating to the point of crashing (GPU, CPU or both), it is fine for getting those max scores.
Personally, I'm more interested in stable clocks. If your CPU and GPU can't handle a 1hr Prime 95 max heat and DX Real time 1hr FS run, it isn't stable.
You can throw Orthos in there for good measure.
That is why I take most extreme scores with a grain of salt. Good bragging rights, definitely, but I want to make sure my systems are rock solid day in and day out.
And yeah, Newegg has been showing up in stock almost daily now. Not really shocking considering they have competition now from all sides with the A1 models all over the place, including eBay now. -
to tell you the truth..i only over clock for the fun of it, but when running my system..i run it stock. i don't need to over clock to play any of the games. that's just done for people saying the 9800m gtx cant keep up. (big chili cheese grin) and it seems to still be keeping up nicely.
-
...keeping up, or ahead?
And artifacting never hurt anyone.. magic blue smoke does p1ss people off though. -
i really need an ati machine though.. just to see how i high i can push one.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
why do you think you can push it farther then you did your nvidia. which one would you get the whitebook or the asus and why.
-
ken of gentech computers breaking 17.1
-
but the more i honestly mess around with both cards they are so much a like except for the whole SLI profiles which 9 times out 10 the nvidia recommended was the best choice anyhow, much like just leaving catalyst ai on standard vs advanced.
-
i will say that if you could even hit 3.5ghz 20k should be a snap.
-
i like to see things from both sides of the fence. gives one a better perspective of the bigger picture.
quadzilla:
hummmm, maybe 3.8 and good drivers and a few nicely placed tweaks to get to 20k -
He went up 37 mhz and gained almost 600 points ? if it were based on that ratio he would be well over 20k lol but i know its more of a fluke then anything .
On a side note newegg is now out of stock again so it looks like 4 more people ( according to john) will be proud new owners -
he has to be in the 5500 and up club for cpu score...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what makes a cpu overclock stable?
i am at 3.2ghz i cant really push it any farther. -
voltage and memory and a few other things....
-
like a lil luck..and balls. I'm still waiting to see a board which has enough power to really push the QX. If kinc wasn't BS'ing..then this board should. But, he coulda had a test BIOS, or many other things to allow for it. Power is the most commonly lacked necessity tough.
-
(not entirely convinced that 3.3GHz is even stable)
I know my video starts artifacting at around 970MHz for the memory (haven't found the ceiling for the GPU yet).
I'm thinking it's nearing time to open'er up and get some AS5 on the critical parts. Don't know if it'll help much... but I don't think it would hurt either. -
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i cant get to 3.33 stable. it boots and it fine tell i stress it out. and 3.5 restarts before i can login.
-
Maybe in some benchmark program the 9800MGTX can keep up but in the real world of games and FPS etc it simply cannot match the 4870x2 M. I have see it now first hand.
-
Ha! Yeah but that spoils the fun of opening it up and having a look at wutz under the hood -
dont get me wrong, the 4870 x2 is a nice card, but in reality..it should be smoking a 9800m gtx hands down at all test..and that sir...it's not doing. gaming or benchmarking.
although with you guys and your price /performance. it's smoking a gtx at that...but then...it's 6 months later, so nvidia already swindled us out of our cash for these over priced hogs...lol
crack her open and see what she's made of... -
I as5 everything when i get it. Check it out of the box to make sure it actually works, get max temps with stock paste then AS5 that up
I just figure that 1. The cooler the better and 2. Might as well start getting that AS5 "burnt-in" right off the bat.
Not to mention when i head to South Africa its not going to be as cool as my 60 degree basement -.- -
-
-
-
because that same thing was said about the 3870's. so i was just curious is all. -
-
a few nvidia guys helped those 3870's get to where they are today. and that applies to the 4870's as well.
you mean like this 20k 3dmark06 score as well? -
But yeah, let's be real; those guys were scared. Why else would they go into W840-based threads to inquire, then bash the system whenever they can? Heck, I would be kinda scared too if I were drawn to the notebook I bought/own based on the fact that it was the most powerful notebook at the time, and then some notebook out of nowhere comes along posting better numbers in one benchmark.
Anyways, don't mean to go off-topic as this is the Asus section, but it's tiresome when people suggest that the Whitebook/3870s didn't meet expectations when it were the Sager guys making those expectations in the first place based on one benchmark. -
-
and it was E wrecked and i spending long nights working on better drivers. over the phone/emails/ pm and the boards.
and lets not confuse being scared with wanting to know which card is better. not all of us are ati/nvidia haters which allot of you seem to side up on. sorry, im just here to help make the card perform where i think it should be. and if that's above mine, then so be it.
and since most of these ideas that have gotten both cards to where they are now we're my ideas...not sure how that comes across as someone being scared. flashing both vbios as masters was my idea. and that alone netted a substantial gain in performance for the 4870. so again...how would that be considered scared? i don't get it. i have put in to your cards more than you have and i dont even own any. so imagine if i did...
well, you got me on all that -
