Ok so here is what I can get from GenTech:
Q9000
Intel 80GB SSD
500GB HDD
I am still not sold on the Q9000 (sorry Viscous), but I am sure it will work for me until I return home, but the 80GB SSD . . . is that going to be enough for Vista and games? I guess I have alot to load up, CS3, ACAD and games . . . hhmm

80gb enough for Vista & Programs, but games.... probably not depending on what games and how many.
I mean it will hold a handfull but if you want your whole game collection on there you should probably look for something bigger or just settle for installing them on the HDD. -
Lol, Xotic doesnt have one available, havent for over almost 2 weeks (my order is just sitting there waiting on stock) and all they can say is maybe this week. What ticks me off about Xotic is the 2 people I spoke with prior to placing my order both assured me they had plenty in stock! I have yet to see NewEgg have one in stock (guess I have bad luck there) so I guess I will try GenTech. I would rather get the NewEgg one I suppose, and add my own SSD and BluRay drive, but like I stated above, I have yet to be able to order one from there!

nah, he's good vicious.
install all your main stuff on the ssd drive. autocad/cs3/office/os
install all games to the 500 gig hard drive in a folder called games.
since the games don't need to use the speed of the ssd, no sense in taking up space installing them there. install to the 500 gig drive. -
Speaking of SSD's and seeing as you guys are the most knowledgable ppl I know of the subject . . . I am looking at them on tigerdirect. Is there a big difference between OCZ Core Series and Vertex Series for my uses? I think I have read the Patriot was not one to get, but how about the Corsair? I guess if I can get the NewEgg model, I will get a 120GB SSD and store everything on the 320GB.

ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Im not the SSD expert but I want to say the vertex is better now with the firmware updates, and the core was the better one before.
-
tried the patriot and it stutters bad with an average read of 158 and write of 80 to 90.
not sure about the ocz core or corsair.
the vertex has the 32 to 64 meg cache and has no stuttering. it's pretty close to the intel in read speed, but faster in write speed. they both are in the 100 to 220 + range for reading
information. depending on the type of flie copied. and as vicious said..with that firmware update...makes them pretty good. -

I've been a lurker on this thread almost from the beginning. I've trying to decide when to jump. The bios and vid driver issues worried me but the great work you, Quad, E and the rest have done have cured my worries.
Thanks for time and effort you guys have done -
-
apparently not even close to ati cards it's basically less than 100 points. remember..i have a quad not a dual. i just run it in dual core mode to show there is no influence in scoring. a few understand this but others do not.
and it was to say... setfsb influences quite a bit over a multiplier over clock.
jamie
1.
CPU = 2.8GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10573
2.
CPU = 3.06GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10805
3.
CPU = 3.29GHz
Video = 620/970
Vantage GPU = P10975

Vantage Performance 1280x1024 650/850
2.7ghz - 10255 gpu score
2.3ghz - 9544 gpu score
2.0ghz - 8864 gpu score
in the case of multiplier vs setfsb... gonna have to say it is in fact influencing scores by allot or someone aint testing right or it's more so with quad cores..take your pick at this stage.
so given what you see here...how many more points would a 9800m gtx score..if i we're to setfsb this? quite a bit more im pretty sure. put me right around 11.5 (jamies scoring)or 12.5 (vicious scoring). (speculation of course) -
Will the GTXs fit in the W90? Anyone take internal pics of the PCIe connectors?
Also, I'm gonna dig thru some intel spec sheets and show why the fsb overclock impacts the gpu runs more than a multiplier OC. I'll combine the results with some benches from my OCZ cause I could and did OC both ways. But as a heads up, the Northbridge is the brain.. Fsb OC of it also OCs the GPUs. I'll post all substantial evidence tonight. Then let's see what ya think Vic, cause the CPU isn't a bottleneck. You are just overclocking the system..it should run faster.
Digiron; stick with xotic. Better warranty and superior customer service. It's well worth the wait -
For clarification on my Xotic order, I ordered less than 2 weeks ago, sorry but working 7-12hr days they start to run together. I was contacted by Justin and appreciate his quick response (and I am sure he appreciates he kept me as a customer). Apparently the T9800 processors are on back-order until the end of next month (if I am mistaken on that please correct me Justin) so if you are waiting on that, maybe you should reconsider that processor. Now I am going to spend some time to rebuild my system specs and change my order!

It is the end of this month according to Justin, my mistake. Anyway, I now have some questions . . . I am thinking of getting the Q9000 with a 320GB and the 500GB HDD's. Replace the 320 with the Vertex 120GB SSD and store all my music, photos and movies on the 500GB. Probably put the 320GB in to an eSATA enclosure and use it for backup. My questions are basically will I be able to play my games at full rez, max settings (Fallout 3, WoW, GTA IV, Empire: Total War and Company of Heroes (all of them)) Yes, I have alot of free time over here haha. Will all of these be playable like I want with stock drivers and stock OC of 15%. I am just hesitant with that processor and I know Viscous has posted countless benchmarks and FPS for L4D but benchmarks on 3dmark and Crysis dont really tell me about the games I want to play. Sorry to be a pest, but I am buying a laptop to last a year out here, so I want to make sure it is the correct purchase. Thanks

My X1 is sold and going out today or tomorrow. I'm gonna miss the little guy, but he's all grown up now and moving off to college in California!
I must say it's been an interesting saga. Good luck to everyone on the tweaking.
As far as SLI goes, I don't see that happening. X38/X48 chipsets don't support and never will support SLI. -
The W90Vn comes with a 9800M. Aren't 280s the same basic design?
Also, i haven't opened the W90 yet, but I believe I read somewhere that Asus used a reversed MXM connector in the G-series so upgrading is near impossible. Anyone looked to see if our W90s are the same? (I would look, but I'm in the middle of rendering on that machine) -
If you scroll back some pages i posted screenshots of Fallout 3 maxxed out and Empire total war on ultra high all running at amazing framerates and native resolution . The only game on your list that wont run maxxed out is GTA 4 and mainly just the draw distance and detail distance . You can run it maxxed but its not going to run as well , Then again this was taken with my Dual core overclocked and not a Overclocked Quad, which the game is heavily influenced by, so you may turn a couple things up . over all the game is playing great on my machine and ill know more tommorrow when my Quad arrives. -
hummm...well...one it's a laptop so keep that part in mind..
2: it will play every single game and about 97 percent of them at their highest settings (meaning fluently playable and not motion delay syndrome)...the other 3 percent you will drop a setting here or there or maybe the resolution down to 1650x1080. depends on how much you want to play... most games are not taking full advantage of the 4 cores. so mhz would probably do you better in this case. and if you need to see how crysis plays..check out ken's video. it shows his in game play fps and at many different settings and resolutions. and since crysis and gt4 are probably the hardest games to master on a laptop....i would start there...if they do well with both of them games..chance are your other games will fly. and if you scan through this thread..they are a few benchmarks covering the games you mentioned.
side note:
HomeX38/X48 based boards can get SLI Written by Fuad Abazovic Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:10
But need a board redesign
Intel engineers have told us that you can get X38 and X48 reference designs to support SLI, but you would have to put Nvidia's SLI chip inside.
It won't happen anytime soon, the sources added, as it would mean that Intel has to change its X38 and X48 reference designs, and this simply won’t happen.
It would be a defeat if Intel does this; and as far as we know this won't happen anytime soon. However, partners should be able to implement this chip and bring you X38 or X48 based motherboard with SLI support.
just not today... 4/15/09...speculation of course

The X38 did run SLI with hacked drivers you just have to do some digging . This was some time ago and long before Nvidia let intel use SLI on there chipsets .It may have all changed now since there in bed together finally .
-
-
In bed, huh? They both have pending lawsuits against each other! I guess love and hate can be one in the same sometimes.
-
like my x58 intel chipset in my desktop with SLI'ed Nvidias which also supports crossfire . Though the GTX280s will be faster im not much interested in that card as i would be in say a m4890's
.

more recent post on that stuff. not the hacked drivers, but general information..

wired thing about this one is...i have an formula maximus special editon rog x38 mother board. never thought about it NOT supporting sli... -
Sorry, i know it was kind of a confusing post haha, really tired (it is 9pm and have been up since 5am). I know Quad was able to play all those games the way I want to play them (that is why I wanted the T9800) but will the Q9000 play them like that since it is "only" 2ghz and most games dont take advantage of that (I know GTA does)? Crap, maybe I just need to go to sleep and start over again in the morning . . . waiting another 2 weeks would be fine if it wasnt really a month for it to get out here. (2weeks to home, 2 to get here in this hellhole). Nite everyone. Thanks for the help, really appreciate it
-
-
That is probably what I will do, going to sleep on it. Nite everyone and I expect to see the theory of relativity debunked in the morning with the way this thread goes sometimes

Same with PhysX as the same guys are working on a beta ATi driver that can accelerate PhysX via GPU. -
Quick question everyone. Please bare with me as I have been using Nvidia cards since I switched from ATI after the X1950......anyway, I flashed my cards both to master as per ViciousX's guide, installed his modified drivers etc and everything is running fine and fast. However it seemed in reading a few posts on here that some people now have crossfire control tabs in CCC and are enabling it in "game profiles." I am not sure what this means as I don't have any "crossfire" tabs, options, buttons etc and I don't really know about these game profiles with Crossfire. Could someone make this simple as I have a limited amount of time on my hands here (Doctor deploying). Do people have a crossfire tab now with the flashed cards and 9.4 modded drivers installed? How do I enable crossfire in game profiles and what are game profiles? Do I download them for my games or do I make them in the profile tab? Any and all help is appreciated by the masters of ASUS and ATI.
-
Nope no crossfire tab on the 4870x2 as the machine and drivers still think its a real x2 card . Just leave The AI on standard your fine as that is crossfire enabled . The profiles are built into the drivers and you dont select them like you could on the nvidia it just works automagically with the ATIs.

Been waiting on Newegg to give me my money back for 2 days now, the moment I get it, I pulling the trigger on A1 from Gentech(the have stock). Using next day air, and the hell with it!

Still awaiting processing on mine which was also purchased from gentech last Sunday. I have to admit Im getting pretty antsy. Had it shipped ground though so you will probably be having your opening before me.

Vantage run with Multiplier at 11x:
Vantage run with FSB up to 308mhz (1234mhz effective):
Also, another Vantage run with FSB again because I thought the GPU score difference was significant:
Oddly enough, this instance shows that mutipliers are more effective than FSB pumping on the GPU score. Don't know about that being a certainty, but FSB OCing is definitely not helping the GPU score. If anything, FSB pumping helps the CPU score over multiplying. -
ichime, what if you run 3dmark Vantage at stock CPU 2.53 and then run it at x11 but use setfsb to downclock to 2.53? Just curious.
-
Anyone tried the 1.2volt BIOS yet?
Seems to be causing artifacting with my 4870's on some runs of Vantage with stock clocks. In general my system seems less stable and has crashed a couple of times with ATI related errors.
Guess I'll go back to the 1.1volt overclocking BIOS for now. -
A .1 V difference is substantial. Can you do 1.15? I don't think ya can but it's worth askn. There's so mNy things I'd like to try with these cards. Grr...
-
I was wondering if anyone could answer what the significance of having a 3Dmark ORB verified benchmark. I looked through john's benchmarks in his sig for the first time ever and I noticed some werent validated.
-
-
They link you to his benchmark..right? That's all it means. Not just a screenshot but a reviewable bench

Thank you bro. So, can we say that the FSB has an affect on the GPUs? cause.. CPU stayed almost identical. A lower FSB while using the same CPU speed also provided a lowed GPU score. *shrugs* Anyone care to speculate?
-
guess you didn't notice that your over clocked 2.93 score and your stock 2.53 score are the same. how is that? (gpu 6500)
