I truly hope Asus releases a new BIOS for the QX. This situation reminds me all to well of the OCZ hitting it's barrier. Guess we just have to wait and see.

Ok Q9000 W90 on its way, ordered a Vertex 120GB and a 7200RPM 500GB from Dell and 2 2.5" HDD Enclosures (eSATA) for my backups! Should all arrive around the same time (2-3 weeks) out here in the 'ol desert. Looking forward to learning and joining the fray. BTW I called Xotic yesterday to change back to the Q9000, they did so and shipped my W90 that same day so I can say their service is top notch!
-
You said earlier that if you had to do it again you would get the A1. Is that still the case. Has there been any heat issues with overclocking that high. I want to use the W90 for gaming, can't decide which one to get.
Thanks -
2Beagles, if you look back at Viscous's benchmarks in games, he is only a few frames lower than Quad on the games they benched BEFORE he pushed his system up to 2.7ghz. I think L4D was the most benchmarked and it was in the 100+ fps. I decided to go with the Q9000 after that.

W90Vp-X1 is now the winner of a Cnet Editors' Choice award!

Thanks djgiron
I'm Leaning toward the A1. I'd like to get the 9100 with the bigger cache but it's such a big hit pricewise. I want to jump soon. -
Well i just got an email that my order has just got shipped. Woohoo!!!!
-
It would be cool to have the CNET award if they weren't a bunch of hacks and actually knew something about technology. Read the review and they don't even know where the speakers are on the dam thing. I, unfortunatly, find CNET's reviews on most things poorly thought out pages of gibberish. They usually do have nice photos though.

Well X1 owner wannabees - bad news. Newegg's website now has it as a "Deactivated Item" as opposed to "Auto Notify" or whatever. Not a good sign at all. I would like to call them and find out what's up but since I'm in Iraq it's a lot of trouble. If someone would be so kind as to do that and post the results I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Well then its decided, quad or a no go, blah >.<
-
Scuba, someone posted in another thread the deactivated means they are no longer being produced. I guess they went with the Q9000 instead for $50 more. Is it just me, or are there alot of people in Iraq on this forum . . .

"out for delivery" the ups boys usually make the rounds in my neighborhood in about an hour. Various utilities and discs all lined up... Getting a mite excited.

I primarily play MMO's like Warhammer Online and it's very CPU intensive but I do not think it would take advantage of a Quad at all; and the loss of mhz will mean loss of performance.
ARGGGG!
We can only hope that NewEgg as capitalistic as they are took this step so they could sell more X2's while the X1's are out of stock and that the X1's will be back as soon as there is a supply again. -
The CPU will be more then enough for what your doing Warhammer if you so happen to get stuck with that Option, so dont even sweat it .
-
Vicious...where is your modding/overclocking guide...? thanks. -

Definitely not a April birthday girl.

Sigh..... I returned mu X1 to Newegg on monday, they have it now for 5 days, and I have yet to get my money back, nor can I get an answer on weather I will or not. I don't understand why am'I having such bad luck with these things???!!!!
-
Sorry to hear it I feel for you this is exactly why I don't have a W90 yet hopefully someone local will get these in someday. -
-
Maybe I'll have grief with mine and I'll regret the purchase but I went through the same sequence of second thoughts with every computer I've bought for a decade.
Eventually, I end up pulling the trigger on something that I'm happy with for years.
I suspect the -x2 will be upgradable for some time to come and provide me with years of entertainment. -
ive got a question, can i replace the quad for an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (if it can fit/work logicly in the asus)

Mildly tempting - though it is QGNG....

also if im traveling and dont need the graphic cards on can i turn off the graphics cards to save baterry life, like perhaps say through device manager. if i do turn them off can i turn it back on easily or will there be a problem? (im pretty sure it has an integrated card built in, which is all i need in the bus)
-
You can disable one card in the bios when needed .
-
but can i do it every time i travel without fear of something messing up and enabling them just as fast as i disable them incluuding crossfire (worried about battery life)
-
One of the reviewers said when they disabled one of the cards it was a hassle to get it working again. Could be he didnt know what he was doing. This is honestly not the right laptop for someone who needs battery life.
-
I have enabled and disabled them no problem, so i dont see why you would have any problem with it .
-
-
so how about this proccesor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor BX80570E8400 i think it ill work
-
Thats a desktop processor and will not work.
-
then ive been tricked (direct quote from Buy.com: Now the best gets even better with Intel's latest Core 2 Duo processors built using Intel's 45nm technology, using hafnium-infused circuitry to bring you the latest arsenal of performance-rich technologies. These amazing new processors include up to 6 MB of shared L2 cache, up to 1333 MHz front side bus for desktop, and up to 800 MHz front side bus for laptop. {http://www.buy.com/prod/intel-core-2-duo-e8400-lga775-3ghz-6mb-45nm-65w-dual-core-processor/q/loc/101/206655923.html} ) note the laptop part in the end of the sentance. ah well, ill stick with the original proccessor

that is for np9262 only I guess.

wow..things have slowed down around here...what's going on?
-
Lol nothings going on i guess. The Quad is working out great just cant go very high on the clocks so things have just stood still , there's no magic that can be pulled out of the hat for this one till i can figure out a way to get some more voltage at it . The Ball is back in Asus court for the moment and we will have to see if they release a new bios eventually to give it more juice. Im steady at 3084mhz for now and its running very well and some games have had some nice improvements to say the very least if there quad capable.
-
some how i knew they we're going to pull a fast one. they didn't want it's more adventurous users getting ahead of the game. not till they have time to test further....question..does anyone still have the first model with the original bios...i remember you saying you wanted to try the earlier version...i wonder if the voltage is the same there as well... i know they said it didn't support qx9300, but who knows...im gonna say it did and they switched it for what ever reason.
flipside:
it could be that even if you make it to 4ghz....you start losing performance with everything but 3dmark06... (speculation of course)
they new this so they cut the max over clock for the cpu to keep people at bay till they can figure out what's going on. -
Well that old bios i found can be flashed the problem is if its no good i cant go back to the stock bios because when i load up the current bios 502 which is what i have on the machine now it says bootblock error or something to that degree. im not sure if its saying that because i already have the bios installed ( speculation) or because the bios from there website is somehow corrupted . the 503 bios i tried to run but that has some type of Rom id check invalid because it was not meant for this machine .I dont want to take the chance of loading that old bios and not being able to get back to my current bios incase there was a problem as its just not worth the risk . So it looks like ill be waiting for now. Its to bad no one that had an original machine that shipped and was working had upgraded to a quad as they would have had the answer to the question . Dramafoyomama had an original bios machine that was never updated but had the stock CPU so i couldnt have gotten the answer i was looking for and he was the only one i knew that had one.
