Took me a while to get used to also. It's not having to hit the keys harder, but having to press from directly above. If you are lazy and just have your hands flat may have the problems. But if you use piano hands, keep your finger bent, with your wrist in the air, it should go fine and type very fast. In fact this is the recommended way to type also as it is better for your joints and deter carpal tunnel.

Depends on what you want. Having dual HD5870s will make the laptop a different beast. This is a sleak, light weight and portable machine with minimal fan noises. Once you go dual, it gets heavier, bigger, clunky looking (even Alienware look clunky to me), and no longer that portable, and fan noise will increase. Also starts to look like a freak, not that looks should deter you from using your machine at work etc. If you want what the G73 offers that Sager/Alienware/Clevo won't, then this is the machine for you. If you want what they offer, the most power possible, then wait for that.
I forgot G73 is half the cost of the above. No idea what you are willing to spend on a laptop.
I don't have a need for one yet as external drives are so cheap. But if I was to upgrade the optical drive, I'd want a BD writer. Has anyone confirmed if the Sony one can fit and if the outer covering fits? Better yet has Justin/Ken confirmed the model of the BD writer that fits in the G73 yet while retaining the same look? -
Hey, can someone link me to a user review of the G73-JH on this thread. I tried scanning the pages. But was unable to find it.
Also, can someone who has this machine comment on the battery life, weight and portability?
Finally, any crashing, BSOD's etc? (ala G51J)
Thanks!! -

It's kind of a similar behavior to when my bluetooth logitech dinovo is low on battery and misses keys. Obviously not the same cause here though... -
Thanks for coming forward with the keyboard issues guys...at least now I don't feel like i'm crazy. This is definitely an issue...you should NOT have to adjust your typing style this much just because of the keyboard. It's either a driver issue and it's not registering the keys quickly enough or it's a design flaw...I'm not really sure now...I can sit here and tap the keys back and forth and it work fine, but as soon as I start typing fast....such as typing a paragraph out or something, I start having missed key strokes, and on some of them I KNOW i'm hitting them pretty well....sooo, ?

They were really the only ones that answered all my annoying questions promptly (and i can get annoying when it coems to buying new technology, LOL).
Not sure if they ship to New Zealand though, send them an email and ask, they usually respond very quickly. -

EDIT: Damn... Beat me to it! -
Well, I received my X1 today from the Egg. Unfortunately, I'm having some trouble with my laptop already. It seems similar to Jeremyfix's problem mentioned in this thread. Windows 7 does not recognize all 8GB of ram. Everything on the laptop reads 4GB (dxdiag, NBprobe, Win7). However, the BIOS does say that I have 8GB DDR3 1333mhz Ram installed. I have also physically checked the ram and confirmed that 8GB is installed. Any suggestions or has anyone had this problem besides me and Jeremyfix.
Thank you. -

Try reseating them, its possible that it becomes lose upon shipping and being bounced around a little.

The issues keep cropping up...
I am REALLY concerned over the keyboard here. Do you think it is something that has a fix? Or is this just NOT a typer's keyboard? If that is the case, I may have to opt out....as I type A LOT.
Any suggestions for a blazing fast machine that is 1920x1080 and is a gem to type on for under $2000? -
well IMHHO, the laptop is a gaming laptop, not a business laptop, so I wouldn't expect it to be great and useful to type on all day long everyday for reports and what not. This is meant to be used for serious gaming as that is its target audience. Take this at face value, but for the price of this, cant expect it to be perfect can we? again, its gaming, not business this is catered too.

So, here's another interesting "issue"....when I play Bad Company 2, I get what appears to be one or two dead pixels (it's hard to tell if it's one or two), in the lower right corner, almost right next to the edge of the screen. However, immediately upon quitting a map, they disappear. They don't show up on the main menu of the game, they don't show up anywhere else...JUST when i'm actually in game in BC2. I thought maybe the GPU was stressing it and causing them to die or something, so I played COD: MW2 and they didn't show up there either. So, i'm not sure what to make of it. Maybe it's just a glitch with BC2?
EDIT: apparently this a confirmed bug with Bad Company 2. -
If you're still thinking of other lappies, then the new MSI or Sager is an obvious choice. -
Wait, aramis, you have an A1?
-
-
Noone else having this issue? Everyone else has 8GB Ram showing up in their Task Manager?
-
I heard lots of Canadians got A1 in hand.
-
-
PC Canada said they had 50 in stock beginning of Feb and they were pre-ordered and shipped.

True enough. But you have to imagine that Asus, or the keyboard manufacturer would do testing before shipping like having some machine pressing on the keys over and over for durability etc.
Also noticed in one of the USB 3.0 laptops Asus is releasing, very sleek and business looking is also using the chiclet keyboard and looks very close to this one, if not the same manufacturer.

Let's hope everything works out. Newegg issued an RMA. Anyone here have any tips regarding RMA procedure? My first time using RMA.

Sigh, I really wanted to put this machine through its paces tonight. Time to pack it up and send it back.
-
I've been told that ATI GPUs are having issues with BC2, so that may be what's happening to you, hockeydude.
-
For those having issues with Fraps on this machine, a new version has just been released that fixes issues with i7 processors.

I am now in South Australia so delivery won't be an issue. However, from what I have read, if you haven't ordered by now, you won't expect to receive it until April

Alright, the whole UPS losing my package is totally putting me on an emotional roller-coaster. I thought they lost it, so I called newegg and got a really nice person to try to get my order cancelled and a new one sent ASAP, and if UPS ever found my old package, it would be sent back to newegg.
so I went to get a pizza, thinking no one would come by today, my package was lost, right? I COME BACK WITH PIZZA IN HAND WITH A UPS 1st DELIVERY NOTICE ON MY DOOR.
I don't know whether to be angry, happy, or explode. I missed the delivery by 5 minutes, and the UPS guy was out of here. -
-
ouch bro..... that really sucks... can you maybe go to your local UPS and pick it up personally?
-
<-- student who rides bike to school, until his car gets shipped down from utah to texas.
ups pickup location is 20 miles away :| -
-
better get a pedlin
that would be at a decent pace about 1.5hrs... one way ^^
-
-
bad luck dude! maybe give them a ring and ask for them to deliver it again at an extra charge maybe?

Heck yeah. If it's the A2, I'd throw the thing in the provided backpack, and tell them to deliver the empty box to you tomorrow!
