Everything runs hotter in this system compared to my previous system including the ram. The HyperX memory gets extremely hot to the touch after about 20 minutes of use. Adding heat spreaders to help dissipate the heat of the ValueRam might help it's life span. I know Newegg used to sell them.

Agreed, the few issues reported on the G73 (keyboard, mem) absolutely pale in comparison with the long-term issues the W90 had. I went through three of those suckers until I finally got a good one. Problems ranged from faulty a battery, RAM module, mobo. Even the one that I finally kept (that I just sold) had a faulty headphone jack. Let's not even mention the GPU driver issues... It was a beast of a laptop, but QA was obviously not Asus' top priority with that model.

Got my A2 last night...everything seems to be working fine so far. Only had time to do some updates and uninstall all the crapware. My unit came with the 1066 mhz ram....

I hope mine will come with 1333. Where did you get yours from? Is that the initial batch of A2 from the resellers?

CPUZ memory tab. It will read 666.5 (1333) or 533 (1066).

The processor supports 1066/1333 memory. If a couple people had issues with the 1333 it's most likely random.

    Is your memory Kingston?

I am getting a little spooked about the apparent failure rate that is being reported here is well. This is a select group of "enthusiasts", rather than people who are coming here specifically because they are having problems, so it would seem that if our sample is representative, then the failure rate is unreasonably high. I am waiting an A1 but am starting to get cold feet and considering jumping ship for the G51JX-A1. Smaller screen, one less hard drive, and a GTS360M... there sure is more bang for the buck with the G73JH but I am not excited about the possibility of having to RMA until I get a non-defective unit... Any thoughts? TIA!

Yup, mine was. My replacement came in, and lucky for me, I found him on the road on my way back from picking up my car. I live by a hospital, so while he was there, I stopped and asked if he had a delivery for my house. He wasn't sure so he checked and sure enough he had it.

While he was grabbing it, I took a peek inside his truck, and man it was loaded with boxes and 2 new tires??? As soon as I saw it, I was thrilled, newegg actually double boxed it this time! When it finished loading up, I went and checked the rams, and finally 8G. I put the recovery disk in, and reboot. Just to be sure i checked bios and still 8G.

Now I'm doing the recovery on both laptops and as soon as the first one is done, I'm packing it and rmaing it back to newegg. Hopefully everything goes well so I can go ahead and start install programs on my new G73.

One thing I did notice was that bios, windows, and everest all read 4G, but cpu-z read 8G, so something is very fishy. I never checked if my rams were 1066 or 1333, I won't touch it now, lol. I'll wait til it boots back up again after the recovery.

EDIT: Wow the replacement is killing the broken one in recovery. It's already at 85%, and the broken one is only at 70%. I started the recovery on the broken one first, so it had a 30 second head start.

I do not agree, we are the group that will most likely complain about the single defect even when it is not blocking (e.g. like sending back your laptop because you dont like the touchpad) . newegg seems to have sold tons of x1 already and we dont hear so much noise, it does seem a fairly quiet laptop on issues, i mean nothing compared to what happened to the w90, xps 1645 , previous g51 and other laptops on this forum. I mean no one complain about bsod's, noise, heat. it is not perfect but we cant say that this serie is plagues with issues. I am still 100% happy with mine, it is cruising.

I agree. The complaints are really almost for the sake of whining. Keyboard? The touchpad?

The ram was faulty ram from Kingston, easily fixed.

The one that is legitimate is the blank screen problem for 2 members so far.

Sleey ol' boy, I'm really pulling for you man! You better get one of the X1's in stock...

On the other hand, I almost feel like maybe you should have just tried to fix the fan cable yourself because of all the trouble of Rma'ing it. I do understand not wanting to re-wire it though. I'm terrible at that kind of stuff.

    Check your newegg account.

Whatever it says there is the real status. IF they did approve it, you should see a new order in your account, just as if you ordered a new one.

And if you did, I am getting shafted by newegg each and every way.

Honestly, I hope they run out so I can get my money back.

Not to be discouraging but Newegg took two weeks to refund me for a backpack they delivered to the wrong address. I hope you get your RMA soon sleey0. And as for Origin, sweet, a painted Clevo, that's original!

For those of you using AMD GPU Tool to OC, how did you get it to run as an administrator? The user account I'm on seems to be an administrator, however, when I run the tool it tells me to right click and run as administrator and can't open the kernel.

When I right click on AMD GPU Tool, it just has "Open", not the usual Run as Administrator opion.

The Origin is too shiny for me. I no longer attracted to these shiny laptops, trying to rub off fingerprints is such a PITA.

It's also very pricey. So I just chose the default skin, no custom paint job (like I could care less about paint job on a laptop when I can't even see it while using it). Chose the Nvidia single 285, 2 year warranty, 720QM, 8GB 1333 DDR3, 1 TB 7200RPM HDD, Backpack, DeathAdder Mouse. Came out to $3,000. So for twice the price it's still not as good as the G73.

They have two logos. One is the standard ATi. But the other isn't just an Nvidia logo, it's an Nsist on Nvidia. So I guess Origin is paid by Nvidia to insist on Nvidia? I'm really starting to dislike Nvidia more and more. Even if that wasn't the case, that marketing logo is really annoying to see on a "CUSTOM" PC website.

One thing I have to admit. Nvidia's display manager is infinitely better than ATi's. I can't figure out how to do independent display right now, it's frustrating.
