I can't get it to be two independent screens, only extend. And the display on the TV is not even the right resolution and ATi is always overextending. I must be doing something wrong, but this isn't very intuitive to fix. Nvidia was just two clicks, done.

It says received. There is no new order on my account. I did receive two emails today. The first was "RMA Received" at 1:31 PM CST. The second one came at 1:58 PM CST and had a subject line of "RMA Approved".

Hold on there, buddy. Any unit that is going to be a RMA is a legitimate problem. I do agree the whiners of dislikes and personal issues is not a cause for alarm

Well got my first BSOD today, 7f. I just turned it on and was allowing Steam to download some games, and was installing anohter game and wham BSOD. I've read somewhere that if you have Creative's bass on it'll cause a BSOD. I turned that off and I'll see if it keeps happening. If it does I'll take off creative's software.

Steam and the creative software suite has BSOD issues. I think Vicious had to uninstall it to stop Bsod'ing with steam running. This same problem occurred on the Asus G51.

I was going to say that the creative stuff is bloat anyways, but last time I said that I got called a troll. lol

So, I suggest to uninstall it altogether, but that is just my opinion ;)

So I read a few entries concerning air flow thru the keyboard, I guess my question is......is it OK to shut the lid and connect it to my 27" monitor and get my game on?? Or will this cause an overheating problem??

By REAL trolls, that's how ;) lol

I kind of got upset over it last time and argued with the other member, but now I don't see his posts (gotta love the ignore function).

I am disappointed with myself that I got into it with him, as I know better.

In other news, newegg seems to have plenty to get thru the weekend (48 as of this post - they only moved a few today), so it looks as if I'll be getting another one next week hopefully.

Its not a good idea to use it closed... There is the overheating possiblity, but it could also potentially damage your screen through passive heat dissipation through the keyboard.

I know its off topic and I promise not to post here again but no threads for "suppliers and their tempting lies" ... Anyone order from Bottom Line Telecommunications and if so are they trustworthy, especially that inventory in REAL-TIME ? Since everyone here is supposed to be an owner or an intruder like me, thought I would ask here. Thx

Sigh another BSOD, this time code is 9f, which I think is driver power state failure. I'm taking off the creative drivers and anything related to it. I was going to work, so I let Steam download my games. The odd thing was it shut the X1 off. Most BSOD usually reboots the computer.

I'm just curious as to why Asus decided to put creative's driver/product with realtek. This to me is just asking for trouble. I honestly think they won't be able to co-exist. Nothing is OC.

I think the first thing I'll do is remove creative's presence from my machine as soon as it arrives. At first, I won't delete any other bloatware either. Based on all the reports I've seen here, this will be my process:

    1. Power on machine and run through initial start up.
    2. Verify all 8gb ram are accounted for.
    3. Load and run vantage--compare to other owners' results
    4. Delete creative bloat
    5. Run G73 screen saver, flash videos and check out speakers

if all checks out, I'll load Catalyst driver. Then, I'll load each of the programs I listed before, but this time I'll test the above in between each program

Easier way is to let it boot up at first, check your rams. Then pop in the recovery disk, let it recover. Reboot to windows then pop in the driver disk and install what you want. Install ATI driver, run screensaver, flash and listen to some music. Then run vantage.

On a side note, what mouse are you and everyone else using with your G73? I'm using the G9 atm, but the cord is quickly becoming a hassle. I'm thinking about getting the Razer Orochi. I originally bought the Razer Mamba for the G73, but I liked it so much, I kept it for my main pc. I thought about buying another onther one, and leaving the cord permantly on my main and using the wireless for my G73. Any thoughts or am I crazy? It's either another Mamba or the Orochi.

The Orochi is a good mouse, but if you're used to larger mice or have bigger hands, just beware. It is a laptop mouse to the extreme, and you may feel a bit cramped comparably to a normal corded gaming mouse. I have both the Orochi and the Microsoft Sidewinder X5 and the Orochi is about 3/4 the size of the Sidewinder.

My A2 arrived on Thursday, just got around to setting it up today.

Battery is DOA, already filed an RMA with Asus for that (cross shipped). Just blinks the orange battery light and get various reports from Windows (47%, not charging, or sometimes 100%). Anyway, they are replacing.

Everything else seems okay. Did a complete diskpart/clean all on the drives and installed clean W7 Ultimate. Had planned on setting up some VHDs for various operating systems (one for development, etc.) but for some reason when I mount the VHD, Windows says that the machine is unable to boot from the VHD - which seems weird since a 3-year-old Dell does it just fine and I set it up the same way. Any ideas would be great.

The driver disk is great, check all the boxes, and let it rock. I highly suggest adding a password to your account -after- you've done all the drivers unless you like to type it in after each reboot.

    More when I have it.

    Hi
I’m almost decided to buy this laptop and I’m planning to use it for programming and gaming, Hardware Virtualization it’s a key attribute for my needs. Can anyone confirm me if it has hardware virtualization enabled? Has anyone installed Windows 2008 Server with Hyper-V in it?
To test the support for hardware virtualization you can use these tools:

    securable

    Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool

    Thanks!
(I’m sorry if my English is not too comprehensible)

They are sending you another G73? They have stocks now? When I called Wednesday, they told me to send in my G73 X1 for repairs, not a replacement. They told me it could take two to three weeks to get it fixed. I said screw it and rma it back to newegg. I would think it be faster and since it's only two days old, I figure I get a new replacement. The insist on trying to repair it first.

I would assume the Orochi is the same size as my G9. It took about a minute for me to get use to it the first time.

It has been reported that the G73 screen saver is really taxing on the system for some. Problems running it may be an indication that there are underlying problems.

Daddyd, i'm just worried that I will delete something I shouldn't. The only thing I am sure about deleting is the Creative stuff. So, initially I thought it best to test it exactly as configured stock and do one thing at a time to help me track exactly when a problem occurs, and more expeditiously determine the cause. Since ASUS won't tell me exactly what caused my screen to flip, I can't rule out that it was something I changed that did it I don't want to do that again, so I'll take my time I think.

I'm not sure. You'd think the Orochi would be more expensive as it has Bluetooth hardware on it. Also, maybe because its smaller?

The Mamaba still has 5600dpi cordless. The Orochi is limited to 2000dpi cordless. The Mamaba also has a base/dock and rechargable battery, the Orochi does not.

You aren't the only one, lol. I need to paste and copy and not post three times on quotes.

Hmmm I never thought of that. From all the reviews i've seen on the Orochi, they seem pretty good, only constant con was the price. I might have to call/email Razer and see if I can have 2 Mambas wireless at the same time.

Can anyone confirm the restore disk restore a clean copy of win7 without any crap from Asus? This is assuming you don't put the driver disk in when it asks for it. Apparently the serial number on the bottom of the machine won't work for a real install of oem or retail home premium, although when installing as retail home premium it accept the serial as good. Won't pass activation though.

I used the recovery and when time came for me to use the driver disk, I took out the recovery disk and I rebooted. I just let windows finish installing. When it got to desktop, I put the driver disk in and installed what I wanted. All the crapware were gone.

Would go for the Orochi. Using the Mamba here, and while it's a great mouse, you need to port around the charger/synch dock everywhere. Not a good portable solution.

    7. Decide what Asus and 3rd party apps to install

Just added my opinion for you. It is much better to decide what goes on then to remove what is there. If you do go the "remove" route, use a good uninstaller like revouninstaller.

You want all the drivers, but I don't think you meant it that way. Each app/driver will give a small description when highlighted. I can tell you what I left off:

    LifeFrame3
ADSM (I will take a harder look at this one down the road)
    Fancy Start
    Splendid
Screen Saver (I assume this is the G73 one people talk about)
    Net4Switch
Adobe Reader (I use Foxit as AR is as bloated now as Nortons, etc.)
    TrendMicro Internet Security 2009

You'll want to leave off Creative since you made that decision and if you have your own backup program, you won't need AI Recovery either. NBProbe is a bit useless imo as we have much better 3rd party monitoring software. I installed FastBoot, but the only recommendation it suggests for delayed load is the Realtek Audio Manager, so I haven't run it yet to decide if it's worth it for W7. There are a few other apps like SmartLogon where you'll just have to decide if you want something like that.
