Wait you're selling your A2? How would you like to make $50??? I'll buy you 2nd HD caddy for $50!!!!!!

If you haven't already I would suggest reading ViciousXUSMC's review. -
Now I finally got my laptop. I just want to say something about GentechPC and especially Ken
Noted that this is the first time I buy a laptop from the internet, I was naturally a bit nervous. It was lucky that I kind of found my way to this message board and see people recommending Ken and GentechPC. So I took my chance and ordered online from an unknown overseas store (to me anyway).
Ken has been very very patient person from the beginning, answering all my emails 6 days/week and most of them within 30 minutes. He has also gone out of his way to help me and tried to expedite the process of the very long preorder process. I am a naturally very impatient person and it is amazing how Ken put up with my 3+ emails each day lol
Anyway, I am glad I bought from Gentechpc and it has been a very very good experience ! -
But actually, I'd probably buy the backpack from you, that's the one thing I don't like about going with the X1 -
The game that makes the G73 work the hardest I've played so far is...
Annon 1404.
Fun game also. -
I've been away for a couple of days, could some one please catch me up as to what's happening with failures in the notebook??
i saw sleeyo sold his, people getting wireless drops, evensen getting HDD stutters,...
i tried making sense of the poll in the other thread but couldnt, it had 1 vote under bad mobo, but many names...
I just got my order in and now i'm scared... If anything does crop up it'll be a PAIN to rma it from India.. -
Evensen007's machine is hardlocking so it needs to be RMA'd and there are others who are having issues some worse then others ...
The poll is a mess so yeah i cant make heads or tails of it either lol...
As far as you being in India and possibly having issues right out of the box i would be scared as well if its going to be a PAIN to get it RMA'd...
Moos machine went bad after 24 hours so i can see why he wants to get rid of it and not to mention he is an hour drive to the nearest FEDEX which does not help matters either..
Id still say the majority of people are not having major issues so from that point of view things are looking OK for the moment but the machines have not been in peoples hands long enough to determine if everyone will have issues at some point or not ... -
I do suspect it's a relatively small percentage overall, since people tend to come post when they're having problems, not when things are working fine.
For what it's worth, my two X1s have been working just fine, but they're only about 2 weeks and 1 week old, so I can't speak to longevity. -
Were people having lock up troubles with the turbo mode set to off(default) in the bios and without the twinturbo tool installed? Both of these seem rather flakey and don't seem to improve performance anyway.
So far I haven't had any trouble and I'm very please with the my X1 for $1429. -
I've had my system for about a week now and have had 0 problems...
-
Its not so much about those that haven't had problems ... Its only been a week ... Time will tell
-
Kinda need to hear both sides of the story.
True, only time will tell how it holds up in the long run, but for now we can only go by the short-term failure rate, which is unfortunately hard to tell because people having problems will obviously post more than those happily playing games on their new computers. -
Yeah when it comes to most things it will always be the vocal minority vs the silent majority
...
-
Hey guys, I dunno if this is the right forum for this, but I figure it's as good a place as any! I was wondering if there was anyone out there with the A1 or A2 backpack who would want to sell it (the backpack, just so we're clear)? I've looked around for other backpacks...I don't really like them.

Atm they only have the asus g73jh TZ version for 1799€ (still not in stock, but atleast it has a price now, it took them weeks to make up their mind), with blu ray.
Funny detail: the asus g51jx ix costs 1899€. Got to love europe prices, they make no sence at all -
I already slapped the fedex label on TheCheat's G73.
So please stop bugging him -
-
Yeah, I could have.
But I already paid for another system. The longer the G73 sits here, the more I want to keep it and open the box -

Yeah, got email from xoticpc yesterday too. Since I do not want DR anyway, A2 makes thing better for me ^___^. They said those A2 will arrive midle of next week.

"It looks like we got our hands on a few more G73-a2’s. Could you please call me tomorrow during our normal business hours. I would like to talk to you about switching your order over to the a2 model so you can get a computer sooner than waiting for the A1 version. Looking at your order it looks it would be a good fit for you. I just would like to explain the details to you."
This is not planned shipment. Asus just gives out little by little. -

I see. Thanks for clarifying that for me. So ASUS is shipping just the A1's in bulk around the 2nd, but a few A2's trickle in daily. I understand, thanks.

Hey, I'm sure you guys have heard about the March 26 Nvidia GTX 470/480 card launch. What do you guys think?
My first question is if they'll have the mobile version ready for deployment. And I also wonder if they'll ship it right after they unveil it on the 26th.
Apart from that, does anyone know any leaks about benchmarks and/or performance. And of course, 5870 mobility versus the 480/470 GTXM (hopefully). Any opinions?
(Also The_Moo are you still selling your G73?) -
Besides the Joker, who else upgraded from a W90 to the G73??
Anyone selling their G73 already, I may be interested -
-
I'm thinking August
Just a well-reasoned hunch... -
-
I am selling m.ysystem its a brand new rma unit
-
I'm a little concerned at the failure rate. Usually it's peeps who come on and complain about problems AFTER they have occurred, but you guys have been here from the start, so that really reduces the small sample size problem.
Question:
Has anyone answered if i7 etc can handle more than 8GB by actually installing 10GB or more? I know the literature says 8GB max, and maybe it's been answered in the last 50 pages I've missed (been busy building my system).

After the call from the repair center supervisor today, it was absolutely clear to me that they knew that replacements and parts were coming the first week of march. So why make the customer wait for 10 days in limbo, with no update. Then refuse to answer the request from CSR's to update the case? -

I bought a pair of HyperX 1333 though just in case -
I received my replacement unit today. I sure hope it lasts. So far so good. I've wiped the drive and reloaded with W7 Ultimate (x64 of course). I'm currently restoring my Steam backup.
You know what I hate about this laptop? The gigantic touch pad. It's huge and it's in the way and it always acts weird. I'm sure I can tune the behavior to fix most of it, but the out of the box behavior is goofy. Sometmes you move your finger and get a four way arrow instead of moving the cursor. Sometimes it acts like it's not going to move the cursor at all. My hands are big and I'm always touching it when typing. I loaded the utility referenced in the thread somewhere and that does help. I don't mind the chicklet keyboard at all, but I turn the touchpad off and use a mouse most of the time.
I'm not a touchpad fan in general, but I particularly dislike this one.
Oh and another thing... why won't the backlit keyboard come on before you are booted into Windows? When you boot up in a dark room, you can't see to put in your password. Once you are logged in, the keyboard lights up.
OK... enough whining. It's a great machine, but those are a couple of things I would change if I could. -

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
This is a 2 part video of some Cinebench 11.5 CPU and OpenGL tests with Asus Twin Turbo On & Off. If you are interested in rendering videos or images, or do encoding with the G73 i7 720QM, this video can give you some insight as to how it will perform. As far as Asus Twin Turbo, the difference is heat. Mandrake has provided CB 11.5 920XM scores of 3.73 @ 2GHz and 5.40 @ 3.2GHz OC in the Benchmark Thread, which provides a nice jump on the 720QM apx2.88 score.
In video part 2, I display 95% completion screen shots of rendering a 5min 55 sec. 1080p video down to 720p using VideoStudio x3. I have uploaded the screen shots on NBR below the videos.
Part 1:
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BenYKEwOX3U&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BenYKEwOX3U&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='580' height="360"></embed></object>
Part 2: (if you only want to spend 5 minutes, watch the first 5 of this part)
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-dhYKrn_Kfs&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-dhYKrn_Kfs&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='580' height="360"></embed></object>
Note the FSB (a.k.a. BCLK) and the i7 Turbo multipliers of the Argus Monitor (thanks to Mandrake for showing me that program). Also the CPU temp readings.

In this video I use two separate, but same track Dirt 2 races to compare runs with stock GPU clock 700x1000 and an OC 800x1100 using the 10.3 preview drivers.
The OC race & replay gets the full screen and parts of the stock race & replay are overlaid in the upper right corner. I think you'll enjoy it. Disclaimer: I do NOT recommend you game with a constant GPU OC.

I have more Dirt 2 videos on Youtube. Getting ready for BC2.

I've been looking for an answer for this for hours and can't find it... Can someone PLEASE help?
I reformatted my Asus G73JH X1 and reinstalled the drivers and everything was going good.
But then later when I restarted my computer and get to the log-in screen, I now have to click on my picture (selecting my user account) before it will let me put in my password. Before I reformatted, the Log In Screen would just go automatically with my user account and I'd just have to type in my password (without clicking on my picture icon). I don't know why it's making me select my user account before putting in my password because there's only one user account on the computer (and the guest account is off).
Does anyone know how to make it so I can just type in my password when I turn on my computer? Is this a problem with a software or driver I installed on my Asus G73JH? I'm using the Windows 7 Home Edition that the computer came with. It just seems like a bug that it would make me select my user account on the Welcome screen when there's only one user account to select and it seems to increase my boot time too.
Also, this happens not only when I first log on, but even when my computer goes to screen saver and then I have to select that I'm the user before I even put my password in there.
Any help is appreciated! -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
I don't use a Windows password on my 7 and G73, but when this happened on my Vista, I went to the Control Panel/User Accounts and look for a selection similar to "change the way a user logs on/off". The selection isn't there for me on W7, likely because I don't have a password set.
This will give the option to click an image icon and type password (MS idea of home style) or type your username and password in text fields (professional style). You want the latter.
