The ATK drivers and/or the software that runs them doesn't load until windows comes up, would be my thought.

Cool video, thanks for that! Looks like OC-ing doesn't help the frame rates too much - by about 2-3 fps.

This is the stock system, link.

Not really interested in selling the 920. I got a good price on it and it will be the best mobile processor for my needs/wants until next year. If I did sell it, it would be near the RJTech price because I would want to buy it again.

I don't see the selection either, even though I have a password.

But I don't want to remove my password, or have to manually type in my user name. I still want to have to type a password in the login screen. I just don't want to have to click on my picture and then type my password.

Before I reformatted, the Welcome screen would select my user account automatically and then ask me to type in the password (I wouldn't have to type in my user name or anything). Isn't it like this for everyone who has W7, where it goes directly to showing your user picture and having a bar to type in your password? Mine doesn't show the bar to type in the password unless I first click on a minimized picture of my user account.

Thanks for the compliment. About 2-3 in the chase cam race, that's what I see and unnecessary, but good to know it's there.

The username in 'pro style' would be saved and always come up filled in like you want with a cursor ready in the password field for you to type (didn't mean to mislead you). Just like the image icon 'home style' has your username entered and ready (by clicking the icon) and then you type in password.

but, if there isn't any option like "change the way a user logs on" like on Vista that clearly does what you're looking for, then I'm out of thoughts, sorry.

EDIT: Look what happens when I google "change the way a user logs on windows 7"

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com...y/thread/38167c44-3884-4dbb-9713-0fb73671595a

Those are def key words to search for your solution. If that link didn't help, google those words again and look more.

Yeah, the pad really picks up palm movements too, so I just type my password from highly arched fingers, and the hit Fn+F8?? to disable the trackpad and reach my my G5 mouse.

I guess my negative review on reseller ratings helped :)

    lol

Got contacted by a rep from newegg and he hooked me up with $50 off next order and also refunded a restock fee from a previous order.
I know it's not much, but they at least care enough to contact me.

Funny thing is, he wanted to know if the replacement was good to go. I told him I wouldn't know as it is still sealed in the box being sold ;)

Anyone had a chance to put their hands on different G73's and see if all of them have "stiff" touchpad buttons. I don't even consider mine remotely usable, which is ok because I always use a mouse

It's stiff, but I don't care since I double tap the touchpad anyways and only use the right button once in a while.

Okay, I give up finding answers for the Welcome Screen glitch, I've looked far and wide on Google for hours. The problem seems to be for Home Edition only, and it only occurred when I changed my user icon, so I think it's just a freak accident. Anyway, I'm just going to reformat again. Thanks for the help though!

For those who did the clean install using Asus' recovery CD, when it says to insert the driver CD, even if I do put my driver CD in, it won't accept it. Did anyone else have this problem? I know that many are just not putting in the driver CD at this point and doing a reboot instead, but it won't let me reboot either. I have to manually hold down the power button to reboot, but isn't this a bad thing to do in the middle of a clean install? I'm wondering if I interrupted the clean install before it was supposed to be finished? Or is inputting the driver CD the last step?

Man. As much as I want to trust Provantage, not being able to provide tracking status is a big turn off for me. You're the 2nd person I've talked to that has purchased the laptop from them without too much problem.

Another thing that worries me is that I talked with a CSR yesterday from ProV saying that the machine was out of stock. So it seems as though they aren't really sure what's going either. Maybe I'll take the chance...

    ;) Thank you.

No worries, once the installation asks for the driver disc, you can pull the plug on ole' grandma (remove battery first ;) ) or go as far as putting in the disc and let it not accept, then pull the plug. Power up without the driver disc in, once your desktop comes up, put in disc and run. That's it.

I just purchased the Intel 6200 from them and it said shipped just hours later, but no tracking info was available. BTW the card was cheap, but shhipping was expensive. The total was on par with most other prices I saw for this card.

I would run memtest86 to check memory. If not that then use driversweeper to clean out your ATI drivers and then reinstall the ATI drivers.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I have to click my icon before I log in. Actually, I just press enter and then my password and then enter again... but it does not automatically show the password entry box. I did a google search when you mentioned this. I decided that it would be waaaay too much trouble to track down to save myself hitting the enter key.

Not a jab at you... I thought it would be nice to know how to get the box to open by itself, but my perseverance quotient was very small. :)

That was my guess too. My Lenovo T61 for work has a "night light" type LED that shines on the keyboard and you can turn it on and off as soon as the bios starts post. I would either change it to tie the keyboard function directly to the bios on/off or at least make the bios remember the last setting. It appears that the thing is controlled directly by a windows app only and that the app only starts after you log in. Very small pet peeve with a nice laptop. :)

Could be a quirk, but who REALLY cant type without looking at the keyboard? Illuminated KB is really nice and all but I've typed essays in the dark before. I just always found it interesting how people found it almost unacceptable that a computer such as the HP envy 15 doesn't have IllumKB but I bet they got along JUST FINE before mac went and put little led's behind their keys. Jus sayin

on another note, does anyone want to post a video walk-around of theirs? I sort of want to see its relative size to a person, not just a bland table with no familiar objects to scale it by.

    Finland FTW, btw :D

I also purchased my intel 6200 wifi from them. I figured it was worth a shot. They provided tracking info as well. However, I don't trust the to purchase my laptop from them. They aren't as transparent as other companies.

I was under the impression that most people (at least those who really know how to use a computer--meaning those people on these forums) have typing down enough to not need to see the keyboard at all. Guess I was wrong. My apologies.

But seriously, I'm dying for more tidbits about the G73. I don't care what someone just say SOMETHING! please?

I've had no problems with Provantage, and I've ordered many things from them in the past (displays, headsets, etc.). Most of the stuff they sell is sent directly from the distributor, so they are at the mercy of them for the most part. I've never had anything arrive damaged and my G73/A2 is a rocking machine (well, it arrived with a defective battery, but that's probably a manufacturing defect that Asus is already replacing).

    Provantage has great prices too.

It is extremely easy to replace. It's under the access panel that covers the hard drive bays and RAM slots. Remove two screws and pull the access panel. It is a very small circuit board with an edge connector and two antenna wires plugged into it. The antenna connectors are delicate so you would need to be careful removing them so as not to rip the ends off the wires.

lol, sorry, I was using the creative panel and it's a chics voice. the realtek panel just uses a sound.

Mine are def reversed and I can't believe I didn't notice it before as I did check speaker output early. idk, there doesn't seem to be any option anywhere to change it. can't imagine what happened

I think I'll uninstall all audio stuff and try reinstall.

    Thanks Drake

EDIT: That did it, uninstalled the realtek driver and reinstalled, got it straight. It must of had something to do with removing creative software.

EDIT 2: Actually it was changing the speaker sound quality that reversed the ouput, go figure.

    OK...

I think I can manage to type without a backlit keyboard. Since my keyboard is backlit, I would like it backlit all the time... even when I'm not logged into Windows 7.

Anyway, the whole laptop is just fantastic in my opinion. The sound is the best I've ever had from a laptop. It's got decent bass and will get very loud without distorting. The screen looks great and is huge. I don't find the laptop to be too heavy. I think its pretty easy to carry around. I am playing a lot of Crysis right now. I ran Fraps tonight while playing and it averaged 31 FPS DX9 with native resolution and everything set to high. Subjectively speaking, Crysis was smooth and playable without any noticeable stuttering for me. I hope some of that helps you. :)

Unfortunately, that doesn't work because Home Edition doesn't have the Group Policy Editor, unless it's called something else for Home Edition?

I did reformat though and discovered that the cause is when I install Microsoft Office 2007 Home/Student Edition. Before I installed this, my user account would be default at Welcome Screen and I would just need to type my password. After I installed MS Office, I now have to click on my user account icon and then enter my password.

Does anyone know why installing MS Office would change the Windows 7 Welcome Screen?

Or for those who use Windows 7 Home Edition and only have one user account, do you have to click on your user account before it will let you put in your password, or is your user account already selected when you turn on your computer?

Still NO word from Asus ... not even letting me know they received it .... I am pretty disgusted so far by the handling of the G73 as a whole.

I don't get it - hundreds of reports indicating a max of 8GB, yet some are showing 16GB working fine...others can't even get more than 4GB to show up.

    Ridiculous...
