Well . . . being that the A-1 isn't here yet, did you have a converted A-2 or X-1? If so, of course it wasn't - as those aren't initially configured with a Blu-Ray player.

Now, if you actually have an A-1 - lucky! Or, maybe an X-2?

How much did you pay for it? I doubt there's anything cheaper then this and it fits the G73. For the money this can't be beat, if you don't mind the XPS logo.

Anyone using a wireless mouse? No I do not want a wired mouse, otherwise I would of kept the G9 on the G73. I have the Orochi, but I'm not too impress with it in wireless mode. I'm so use to my Mamba and it's insane DPI[5600], that I can't get use to the Orochi's 2000 DPI. Anyone have any suggestions to a mouse that has a higher DPI? Maybe I can get used to the Orochi, maybe....

It was expensive... like $69. Somebody said that the G73 does fit in the XPS bag, but its pretty tight. It may be great. I just decided to buy at a brick and mortar so I could put my hands on the bag and check it out. I took my laptop in the store with me and started trying to stuff it into backpacks until I found one that fit well and had lots of pockets for my junk.

I use a Logitech Performance MX and I don't want to use any other mouse. It's the best mouse I have ever had. It's not one of those "notebook" mouse jobs that are tiny. This thing is very large which is one of the things I like about it. The laser will read on anything including glass. It's not bluetooth... it comes with a USB nub. From what I've read of bluetooth mice, it's better anyway. Those aren't as responsive as mice with dedicated receivers.

I don't care who you are. That's funny right there.
Lord I apologize for that and be with the pygmies down in New Guinea, Amen.

Yeah I just notice that my Mamba even in wireless mode is still acts like it's wired. From the reviews I can find it seems it's a short coming in bluetooth and Razer has done the best they can with bluetooth. If only they could of make the Mamba's receiver's small like Logitech's.

Anways I got some pictures of it if anyone wants to see what it looks like and what it looks like next to the Mamba. The pictures were taken with my motorola Droid.

Outstanding trulsrohk, scaling made perfect sense, +rep to you for saving me research time. I got it done, enabled GPU scaling and went full overscan. It's all pretty now, corner to corner.

@ziddy, sorry to hear about your grey screen issue friend, but I can also report no issues with HDMI (picture and sound) with the 10.3 previews.

Hello there! So, this seems to have developed into "the definitive" thread for the G73.

To ViciousXUSMC: would you please consider adding to the main post (e.g., under "User contributions") the following threads about this model:

    (Benchmark thread)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=458025

(Main forum thread, parts 3 2 and 1)

    ("Technical Upgrade Enthusiast" lounge)

(I usually add this sort of index by myself, but seeing you have a very specific format and perhaps quality standard I do not want to intrude on your main post without asking first.)

    Thanks!

Cool thanks Jody! I wanted to be sure so I could compare device capacity dimensions to other Targus bags.

I was looking for a bag instead of a backpack so I went with this.

How is that working for you? I have a backpack, but I would also like a messenger type bag for when I don't need to take my whole setup with me. I tried out the Miami, but I wasn't big enough.

I uninstalled. Safemode, driver sweeper, CCleaner. Reinstall drivers. Same problem.

I uninstalled. Safemode, Driver Cleaner everything, CCleaner, Driver Sweeper, Driver Cleaner again, CCleaner again. Reinstall.

    Same Problem.

Went through display options and checked default to everything, and voila it works. Apparently for the color scheme, the contrast was on nothing for some reason, don't remember doing that, oh well.

1080p Video and HDMI audio working.

I ordered a 1080p TV at the same time I ordered the A1...the TV is waiting here (more patiently than I am) so I suppose I'll find out this stuff soon enough...

    LOL! I'm glad I could "help". :)

I like a backpack ironically because of a motorcycle. I got tee boned by a car three years ago. The woman smashed into my right knee which exploded. The doctor/wizard reconstructed it since he felt I was young enough to survive the surgery and recover. The leg works pretty well, but I need my laptop weight centered over my body. I can't carry things comfortably to the side since I have a significant and permanent limp. :( Be careful on two wheelers!

    Hello everyone,

My current laptop--don't have a desktop either--has been broken for a couple of weeks. and been searching for a perfect laptop to replace it! I'm pretty sure this is what I want but then heard rumors that i have to wait until mid-april to get it on hands...

I do not want to buy from newegg.com b/c they are about $200 more expensive and I'm a poor college student.

Do you guys know if any resellers have it on stock or any rumors regarding the next shipment???--basically the fastest way to get it on hands.

A1/A2 models dont matter but favor A2 b/c it's cheaper..

I pulled the trigger on the Micro Center deal. Had to drive like an hour for it too :D

Spending an extra hundred to have it now instead of mid March or April was well worth it.

It actually is better deal than other resellers.
especially 500g 7200rpm is less than $100 and x2 from the micro center has bluray combo instead of 500g.

I was very very pleased just till I looked at their ratings...

Beaware of an ambush cancellation--they are quite reputated for it.

HOWEVER, thank you very much for your helps anyways :D :D :D

---ohhhhhhhh, sorry didn't know you're driving down there!
heard they're actually really nice on-store as opposed to the online...
    good for you :)

Having used 3 different computers with at least 4-5 different HDTV's, in various combinations, overscan is almost always necessary from hdmi to a 1080p television.

It's also amazing how much better videos look on a nice plasma over inexpensive lcd's. :p

Oh! and I'm super happy btw, get my x-2 on Tuesday even though I was warned by microcenter that it might get back-ordered for 5-7 days.

I posted a week or two earlier about the grey screen of death problems. I managed to fix that it seemed with the updating to 10.3 beta drivers. However, I seem to have hit yet another problem...

It happened when I suddenly froze in wow. No black/grey screen, just a complete freeze on whatever frame I was on. Wasn't doing anything intense, just standing in in a city bank. Upon hard restarting, the laptop froze at the "Starting Windows" screen. The next hard-restart, the laptop wouldn't get past the starting ASUS screen where u enter into the bios. The next hard restart, the screen wouldn't even display anything. Just completely blank. Upon turning on the laptop, there is absolutely no display, not even the initial ASUS screen where u can enter the BIOS from. Any ideas for troubleshooting before I have to send in for RMA?

X2. IMHO, instead of waiting so long for the A1, the only important thing missing is the extra HDD. I have my preferences, and I think for minus $145 and at that pricepoint, AND I get to keep my my Blu-Ray drive. I could deal with going without the extra HDD and mouse/bookbag. This lappy is a freaking steal for $1499.

And about the Blu-Ray playback software, it's straight fail for me right now. I've had to reboot every time just so the movie can play on an external TV. Plus, the audio has intermittently been streaming from the laptop but not to the TV without a hard reboot as well. Movies play, but without a jimmy rig, and I didn't pay $1499 for that. I would download other BR software, but to pay for it? Bleh...

Any idea if you get the Asus 360 and ADW if you purchase the X2 at Microcenter?

Also wondering if the http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0327003 Intel 80 GB SSD comes with a drive cage or if I would need to get one of those for the X2 also?

Most happy it's all working again for you. There's a lesson for everyone, try the default button first.

Perhaps I should clarify my previous statement: It made perfect sense that scaling needed to be adjusted due to the 4 sided black bars I was experiencing, but why did I have to, don't have a clue. The TV is 1080p.

Bummer about the leg, glad you were young enough to recover. I'm 40, so I prob wouldn't, but I still like stradling the crotch rocket. Will do.

me? Tough call as I would have to separate sim from arcade, but I'd say the one I still enjoy the most is GRID as it just feels tight (just wish there were more demolition derby), but Dirt 2 surely wins the off road fun. The GTR series for sim.

So, I've had my G73JH-X1 for 3 weeks and it's met all my expectations and then some. I mostly use it for games and streaming movies...but I now have that upgrade itch. Probably should have just stayed out of this thread and kept gaming :D Anyway here are a few things I plan on doing, some I feel capable of and some I feel capable with help from the NBR community.
    1. Intel® X25-M Mainstream 160GB Internal Serial ATA Solid State Hard Drive
    2. Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 1333MHZ CL7
    3. Blu-Ray (not sure which, to date what works and fits best in the G73)
    4. i7-920XM

I know all of these upgrades have already been done, So I would like to hear any thoughts/regrets and cost for performance increase from the people who have done them.

I'm new to the forums so hi everyone :)

Mr Sea Bass: You noticed a difference between the stock WLAN card and the INTEL Card? Did you post your report as you said you would? Thanks...

Hey guys. Anybody knows how can I order this bad boy from the UK? Also is it possible to make an order with different specifications than the standard model like you can in the US? I want to order it with the 920xm and an ssd.
