Someone is selling her X1. I think it's michellelane71, and I'm assuming it's a chick from her name. I think she's asking for $1350. Give her a PM.
Take out the rams and try it with just one stick. That means you put one in, as the other one is already in, under the motherboard so it's really 2 rams. Try all 3, one at a time and see if the rams are the culprit. If your display won't come on, you have to rma it.

I just ordered it this past weekend. I should have it by the end of the week.
There is someone that posted in one of the threads that they definitely saw an increase in data transfer but they did not mention range. -
For those that upgrade to the Intel wireless card, did you guys have to install any drivers or did Windows 7 do it for you? I'm thinking about upgrading mine too.
-
I installed the Intel drivers that came with it.
-
Happened to me as well. After running 3DMark ( not that it matters ). After couple of restarts it fixed itself. 10.3 drivers. I am coming from W90 so I was not that bothered. Hope it is from the drivers.
-
Same here, had to install from the disc it came with.

I was just over on amazon and stumbled onto the G73JH-A1 and A2 preorder pages. I'm hoping this means a huge shipment is on its way if Amazon is taking preorders. Just search on G73JH and they'll come up.
-
they have been taking pre-orders for a while now I believe, may or may not indicate how many they are getting
-
Guys its almost here!
I ordered a X1 from newegg on 02/18.
STATUS: OUT FOR DELIVERY!
Wish me luck. I'll probably be the first one to get a G73 here in Brazil. -
I don't know if it's the only way, but I installed Scrybe ( http://www.uscrybe.com/), which updated the drivers, then uninstalled Scrybe, and the drivers remained. Then you have new options like the multi-touch scrolling in your mouse properties in control panel.
-
Lol I actually did that too, albeit on accident and now it works. I'm not too impressed with the smoothness of the two finger scrolling though.
-
Hehe. I like the ChiralMotion scrolling that comes with this laptop. Maybe I'm just easily amused by circles, but after adjusting sensitivity to my liking, it's fun making circle motions rather than straight two finger scrolling.
-
Is there anyway to do double finger tap to have it right click?
-
Can anyone tell me what happened to all the posts about the G73?
There used to be dozens an hour, now it is down to 5-10 per day...what happened??? -
For those of you who want to do Two Finger Scrolling similar to MacBook functionality, try this 3rd party Synaptic custom driver out. Works great for me, and I think there maybe some options for you guys to get it to work the way you want it to:

Two things happened....
1. People that have a working g73 are playing on it instead of posting.
2. People that have a broken one are always on the phone with ASUS or the reseller. (I'm in this category) -
Jeremy, what kind of issue do you have with G73? -
Does anyone have a laptop dock they would recommend? I would love to extend the number of ports that the G73 has.
-
Mine decided to only recognize 4 gigs of the 8 gigs of RAM.
-
Didn't you RMA with Newegg? If so, then you should have gotten your refund already. But if you're RMAing with ASUS, then good luck.
-
just 3 more days Excaliberpc don't fail me now. please get ur pre-order list correct. ebay or anywhere else u are selling it. be please do good business. you know there's a problem when they are selling it at two different places. where is the priority?
-
Hope they're gonna come in so mu A1's that there will be enough for everybody!
.....and MOOOORE
-
I do think you're the 5th person with this issue reported here. I was the 4th I think that had this issue. Did you buy this from newegg and was it double boxed? Mine wasn't and I'm pretty sure it was dropped a few times and that might of messed up the motherboard.

Well, Justin posted this in Xotic's forums, so it looks like some A1's should be on their way to resellers, while A1's and A2's should arrive this Friday too. Perhaps there is hop yet for you early to mid Feb pre-order folks.
"UPDATE: A1's some hit today at ASUS and more hitting on Friday. A2's are also hitting on Friday. We will not know numbers we are getting until tomorrow and maybe Monday for the Fridays shipment. We will not know where anyone is in the order Q until we start going through orders. We will go through orders in the order they were received. Once we get to your position you will be contacted about your order.

Ken reported in, said that they're getting shipments this week and more next week, and regularly after that. Looks like it's finally happening! (now watch the warehouse that asus has them all in go up in flames or something)
-
The 10.3 catalyst or even 10.2 is straight download from the ATI site which originally belong to desktop?? and it works?

I think a lot of us are using the 10.3 preview drivers, they work for me and installed on there own with no modding.

From what ASUS has stated to us yesterday is this weeks shipment is it until the end of the month. As of yesterday, ASUS said the next shipment after this weeks shipments, is 3/23 and 3/29-3/30. (these ETA's could always change) The good news is A2's are expected to arrive on Friday along with more A1's.
You may want to try to switch around the Ram modules on the top two Dimms if you are comfortable with it. We have seen one machine with a similar problem as yours with the RAM and switched the modules around and everything worked fine after that. -
Sounds to me like the modules just weren't seated properly.
-
I RMA'd with ASUS. I didn't want the Newegg refund just so they could make me repurchase for $170 more than I did the first time. Plus the tech on my case said they're just going to send me one with the batch that comes in today/tomorrow/next day (allegedly). Those will most likely be an A1 which would be one blu-ray and one hard drive better than what I originally received from Newegg for no additional cost. We'll see if that actually happens though.
-
I actually talked to Newegg about that and they said they would price match the prior price if and when it came back into stock.
-
I tried everything I could think of to fix it before sending it into laptop purgatory. Nothing worked. ASUS has it and claims it's a motherboard issue. It was a Newegg special that wasn't double boxed though I have no proof that was the cause of the problem. Mine actually arrived with no scratches/dents/holes on the box at all. As a matter of full disclosure I actually work for UPS though I get no special treatment as far as shipping is concerned. I just know the best ways to get it through my facility with the least amount of people handling it.
-
I wish I talked to the same person you talked to cause I got the opposite response. I was told that I would have to purchase at the new price and that I'd get no priority over people that ordered but had not yet received theirs. Honestly I was damned if I did and damned if I didn't. Newegg said send it to ASUS and ASUS said send it to Newegg. If I get an A1 out of the deal I won't complain.
-
I was replying to Justin's post. If he re-arranged the modules and it worked, it sounded as if they weren't seated correctly.

So I've been doing some research of HTPC's and what software they used for Blu-Ray playback. I know I've voiced this issue before, but I don't think I've really asked. What's the consensus on Blu-Ray playback software, especially on an external monitor/TV? I know that my X2 came with PowerDVD labeled as Asus software, but I've had problems with the program asking for updates when it's fully updated as well as mouse functionality not working for Blu-Ray menus.
From what I gathered, PowerDVD 7.3 was a popular choice from some HTPC enthusiasts claiming that PowerDVD 8 was broken? I'm gonna download PowerDVD 9 to try that because I haven't heard any feedback about that.
Another issue too was HDMI audio intermittently not streaming to the television. Is that a driver issue or software playback issue? Thanks guys! -
I'm using 9 with no issues on my X1 w/ upgraded Sony BD drive. I have not tried outputting it externally though (that's what my home theater is for!
) The only issue I can see you running into would be HDCP-related and not the software. Mouse functionality works fine for me as well.
-
So, now face this problem that is whether or not i choose to swap for A2 like many others and get my lappy earlier. I was speculating that maybe all those problems would disappear on the next batch of systems? Probably Asus was keeping an eye out for customer feedback and had them fixed? This possible?
Also, upon communication of service staff at xoticpc, i knew that A1 would no longer come with IC Diamond thermal compound, which is a bit of a downer. -
Hi,
I thought I'd let everyone know that I have received my G73Jh-A2 today!
I pre-ordered from btotech on 22 January, since they accept Paypal from foreigners, and have $99 global UPS shipping. Unfortunately the exchange rate for the Pound to the Dollar has fallen a lot since I made my pre-order, and I got charged by the customs guys for some of the VAT, so this has cost me about £1,450 (G73Jh-A2 +i7-820QM CPU +ICD Thermal Compound). This is still a lot cheaper than the UK price, which is around £1,800 for the i7-720QM version with the Blu-Ray drive and a gaming headset.
It is taking a long time to burn the recovery DVDs, so I have not gotten around to uninstalling all the rubbish and installing my software yet. In addition to gaming, I am planning to use this machine for some of my personal research projects, involving Matlab and Simulink code generation on DSP and FPGA hardware.
I will probably upgrade the HDD to an SSD next year, or when the prices become more realistic. I am a bit concerned about all the problems which people have been having, and really hope that this machine does not fail on me, since my other machines are too slow to do any real work on.
I hope everyone manages to find non-stressful solutions to their computer problems. -
It would of been easier if you just pop in the recovery disk and then the driver disk, That will take care of all the crapware that came with it. When you put in the driver disk, don't reboot like the laptop wants you to, just turn it off and on. Let Windows finish installing and get to desktop, then open the driver cd and install only the driver/software you want.
-
Those of you who received your A2 early this month or last month, did yours come with IC Diamond compound? Bacause xoticpc told me that they are not offering that as an config option anymore.
-
Total Media Theater 3 is by far the best BluRay playback software. It also supports BD Live
-
It was stated (and shown in a video) that processor access is a HUGE pain with this computer and can take up to an hour, making it really not worth it for a $20 upgrade. Also, it seems everybody has been reporting good temps even when gaming on their laps. Unless you plan on doing extreme oc'ing Mandrake style, there's really no need.
P.S. In general, thermal compounds only drop 3-5C (Can someone confirm that? I just read it a couple hundred pages back)
EDIT: Thanks for the good news Justin! Glad to hear that these will start going out in greater numbers -
Ok, I'm new here, and I'm sure that somewhere in the 200+ pages of the list, my question is at least somewhat covered. However, I hope you'll excuse me for asking this.
I am looking at ordering a G73JH-A1, and I am trying to figure out specs. In essence, I am trying to decide between the following "upgrades":
1. 920XM processor
2. 8 GB 1333 RAM (instead of 1066)
3. 160 GB SSD hard drive (instead of one 500 GB)
Of these, any suggestions on which one you would go with? This will be both a gaming and work laptop for me.
Thanks in advance.

In all I've read it seems like it would be pointless to upgrade the RAM. You'll never be able to tell the difference. Besides, nearly all of the G73s (so far) have come with 1333 for free. If you have the cash to spend on upgrading to an SSD that seems to be universally accepted as a great upgrade. As far as the 920...as far as I know, only Mandrake has one (but there could be more), so he'd be a good person to ask about that.
-
#3, most noticeable difference.
-
btw guys if youre having trouble only reading 4gb memmory, just replace the burnt memmory stick/s, ive done it and couldnt be happier, and its cheap too, no waiting around if u want the thing fixed there and then
btw you must buy the same 2 ram sticks as these run in dual channel (black and white dimm slots 2 each)
easy fix tbh, bad batch of ram, bl kingston and your lifetime warranty -
Website looks promising. Any experience with the software? What kind of laptop or HTPC do you run this on?
And how in jeebus' name do you get the keyboard backlight to come on before the OS login screen??? +rep to whomever gets the right answer first. -
Anybody going to comment on BF:BC2 performance and settings?
