Someone spent a lot of time trying. I think it was concluded that the keyboard light is software-run not controlled by the bios. Sorry pal.

I have complained about this already.

The ATK drivers control this. You don't actually have to log in. It's not logging in that makes is suddenly start working. The backlight software is either a service or a startup item. If you leave your computer sitting on the login screen for a minute or so, it will light up. It's just a time thing and I suppose it depends on how much junk you have installed, how many services you have running, etc.

I booted yesterday and had an incoming phone call before logging in and the keyboard lit up while I was on the phone.

    And also on their american website it says this ntel® Core™ i7 Processor 620M/820QM/720QM : 2.66 GHz - 1.6 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 3.33/3.06/2.8 GHz;
    Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 540M/520M/430M : 2.53 GHz - 2.26 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 3.06/2.93/2.53 GHz
    Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 350M/330M : 2.26 GHz - 2.13 GHz,
While i was told here on the forums they will never sell those core i5 and core i3 models in the US.

Interesting, no 920 support. I guess they don't want people burning their systems up. Striker warned against this.

This card IS faster than a 285m, its actually faster than ANY single mobile card, and heres the thing; a lot of games don't support SLI/Crossfire, so by having two cards, you get more heat, less battery life, higher price, generally larger/heavier case, and in the case of some games little if ANY framerate increase.

The way I understand XF/SLI is that each card renders each frame separately and alternates putting it on the screen, and sometimes the cards can stutter and get out of sync for a second, so XF/SLI may even cause lag in really poorly coded games. IDK what percentage of new games is being coded with SLI/XF support but either way, the 5870 is a VERY solid option... in fact the BEST option for a single card.

Interesting, I use a utility called StartUp Delayer that essentially allows you to delay services and/or prioritize them and I wonder if this might help. I guess I'll have to wait until I finally receive my G73 unless someone else wants to give it a whirl.

All of the major Blu-Ray software players seem to be about the same. I personally like ArcSoft's offering better than Cyberlink or Intervideo, but not because it's any more compatible - it can be just as much of a pain to get installed and working properly as Cyberlink or Intervideo.

If Cyberlink gets stuck needing an update, uninstalling and reinstalling fixes the issue about half the time. Sometimes you can also request a patch from Cyberlink's chat support that will fix the issue. From my own experience, this isn't just a problem with Cyberlink - I've run into the same thing with both Intervideo and Arcsoft's products.

As to your HDMI issue, does the audio only cut out when you're playing Blu-Ray, or does it cut out with ANYTHING outputting audio via HDMI? If it's just with Blu-Ray, I'd guess it's a software issue, but if it's cutting out with other things, too, a driver update might be in order.

    Hi,

I would like to warn everyone about buying their systems from btotech.com. They sold me an ASUS G73Jh with an i7-820QM Engineering Sample (ES) CPU, instead of the Retail/OEM CPU, which I thought that I was purchasing.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5967137#post5967137

Please can everyone refer to the link above, and pass truth on to everyone you know. Many thanks.

You get 7% still. If you buy an Alienware you get ZERO unless you get the 920.

    Hi,

My Asus G73Jh got sent by UPS Expedited. The UPS guy demanded cash on delivery at my doorstep .

BTOtech had insited on labelling this as refurbished computer system with a price of $600 (they said that they had separate insurance), so I got charged £81.42 VAT (17.5% on $600 at 1.28:1), plus an £11 surcharge, for a total of £92.42. As you many know, the pound to dollar exchange rate is horrible (1.50:1), but where did the extra 22 cents come from?

However, it seems that the reason that they were so eager to help was because they had put an Engineering Sample (ES) processor in my system, instead of the retail 820QM which I paid for.

I have previously ordered small items from the US and only gotten a ransom demand from UPS, DHL and FedEX after they delivered the goods, so you might have better luck than me.

It seems like to me that BTO tech tried to take advantage of him, because he is living in foreign country, Great Britain. BTO tech seemed to think that he couldn't do anything because he lived far away, paid about 100 bucks for foreign shipping, so it is hard to return, and made payment through foreign paypal account, so it might not be that easy to get reimbursed...

How bad they are! Report them to BBB as well as MS!

The 620m is a 2.66ghz dual core i7, at 35 watts. Some people argue that it's better. Honestly the quad can do anything needed that's double threaded well enough. But the dual core can't run do quadruple threaded stuff.

That pretty much sums up the link posted above ;)

Let it be known that I am the first member of the Owner's Lounge to post from his toilet seat with his G73JH. No shame, baby! Lovin' this lappy so far. =D

I can't help but to think about how crazy I would've gone if I didn't jump on an X2 @Micro Center. I'm on my way back to Springfield this weekend if anyone wants me to check on X2's there and I might be able to ship to you guys who haven't gotten one yet.

Wow, just spoke to one sales group, and the statement is that they "would probably expect shipping the middle to end of August." Uhm, yeah. Well, not sure that's realistic. There may be a few other options by then. Anyone know of a company saying earlier than that?

Ok, not picking on the company I mentioned. Tried to edit it, but wasn't fast enough. Sorry about that.

Nope, "August" is a direct quote from the e-mail I got. I'm assuming this has nothing to do with the company I'm talking to, and instead is an indication of the overall availability of the laptop.

That has to be a typo as August is a little hard to believe. Like you said by then there will definately be a new Laptop that replaces the G73. Let hope they meant April or you can always find a different place to get it :).

    Hello NBRer's

Im gonna order a SSD today from newegg. I do have a few ?'s for those who have added a SSD in the empty bay of the G73.

    1. where did you get a cradle that fits?
    2. what cloning software is recommended?
    3. after the OS is on the SSD can someone explain how to remove the partition of the stock 500gb, I'd like to use that for storing games.
    4. Or instead of doing ? #3, if I also swapped out the 500gb drive for a 2nd SSD would that improve gaming speed since my games would be stored and run from there?

Sorry for all the ?'s Ive never done this b4

    1. Most people are using Vicious' velcro/tape tip, or my 3m double-sided tape maneuver. The G51 cage fits, but it's hard to get. Asus also isn't selling the G73 drive chassis yet.
    2. Use Macrium Reflect free from download.com Best cloning software I've ever used. Can also be used while in the Windows environment.
    3. Go to drive management in Windows 7 and then right click on the 500gb drive after you have it as the secondary hdd in the chassis (put the SSD where the 500gb was and vice versa) and you can nuke the partitions and then quick format it (NTFS).
    4. Yes/No. Some games (from Steam client/Games for Windows) force you to install on the C drive, so it might be a waste. If you have the extra cash, then hell yea go for it.

Just went shopping this morning for a case to move it around in before I get my Astro Scout packback. Lol, I like how the width is a smidge above the average 16.5". It makes the biiiiiiigest difference, it's such a tight fit with the biggest bag I picked out of the bunch.

And I know this might sound like a silly question, but if you were to put this laptop in a messenger bag, would you put it backside in first or frontside in? Just worried about the screen and because of the weight off the back.

Yup I ordered the A1, but two things might be the cause of mine being shipped out a day early.

    1) I ordered it from ebay and paid in full from the day I order it
    2) I called them to see if I made the shipment for the A1's and the guy was really nice and said he would take care of my order and made sure it shipped out yesterday :D . This is most likely why I got mine to ship.

I was going to cancel my order to reorder from some where else if I didn't make it, but the guy surprised me! You should give them a call, they are really, really nice  !
