I have an x1 with the single HD - no caddy in the 2nd hd bay. I almost bought a 250 gig 5400(that's all they have stocked) at staples this morning just to see if a new HD was the answer. Ran out of time as I had to go to work. I originally wanted Asus to just send me a new HD, but the tech insisted I have it RMA'd instead. I still haven't shipped it off as of now though.

It goes into the bios options screen, so yes. I have tried to boot into ubuntu from dvd and can't get that to work either. I figured I should be able to at least get ubuntu running from dvd, correct?

Nope. Which is why I was considering getting the 250 gig from staples basically just to test if it was a HD issue or something else. I probably would have returned the 250 gig to staples later when my replacement came from asus.

You're right, ubuntu should load from DVD...
Does the ASUS recovery DVD load up?

    Edit:
Yup i guess thats the only thing left to do..
I'd try the HDD in another notebook or another notebooks's HDD in this one once before RMAing though..
Your HDD in an enclosure hooked up to another comp would rule out HDD as problem too..

No, the recovery disk won't work either. It's why I, and the asus tech questioned if it is more than a bad HD. The tech thought maybe bad mobo. I should probably just RMA it and wait the 3 weeks to get it back.

Good news - it's the hdd NOT the laptop. Took the hdd out of the hp g60 and it booted up fine. Of course drivers, etc weren't right but everything worked. Strangley, the touchpad and keyboard were much more responsive even though I didn't have the correct drivers installed on the hp hdd. Tells me the problem isn't hardware, but driver based for the sluggish/unresponsive keyboard and touchpad. Anyway, i'll call back asus and tell them to ship me a new hdd instead of RMAing the whole unit.

Yeah, I'm gonna get a hard drive 2 day shipped to me while I wait for Asus to send me a replacement. Wondering if I should get another Seagate or go for a different brand. Any suggestions?

Timing is everything on Newegg. Often they'll be the lowest price plus you can catch stuff with free shipping. Then there's the other times... :)

I live within 15 miles of their City of Industry location, so sometimes shipping is a total rip-off

Sort by reviews on Newegg, then make a choice. They're all the same and offer no real world difference.

I don't have any good reason but I've always bought Seagate for mobile use. I used a Hitachi 7200RPM once but that thing ran really hot.

my adapter doesn't seem to be charging the battery but it keeps it powered; is there a way to test it? My old G2S adapter actually does charge the battery -- is there some harm to using it?

I have decided to sell my A2. I was going to put it on Ebay, but thought I would mention it here first.

It's the A2 model with two 500gb drives and DVD burner. I upgraded the wireless to the 6200 model. The original part comes along with it. The backpack and mouse are also included. This machine has never left the house and has never left my desk. I have not registered it yet, so you can put it in your name. $1,300 and that includes shipping.

I cant see how someone can post this and no one respond to it (I would of earlier but first time on here since last night)! Since this machine really promotes its "new cooling" its hard to believe this. But I believe it!

Ok I am on 10.3 drivers as well. 32 minutes of l4d2 on all high setings and with Over Drive (worth noting?) my core temp hit 95C max!!

So today I did another test without OD and it hit 94C max (after 32 minutes again).

What is the deal here guys? This is a litle hot for my liking are others reporting similar?

It's just too big for me. I sold my Mac so that I could try a new, fast laptop for less money. The A2 runs great, I just now realize that I need something smaller.

I already have numerous PM's about this. My Ebay name is Greywolfmm. I have over 100 feedback, 100% positive. I will go thru the PM's in the order received.

Ordered my new hard drive: HITACHI Travelstar 7K500 HD20500 500gb. From newegg reviews seems to be a nicer unit than the Seagate model that comes stock. I put it in for overnight shipping - guess I'm impatient, lol. Will still have the Seagate coming from Asus, but that won't probably be until next week. I will find a way to put that into the 2nd hdd bay. Don't really want to do the velcro route, but not sure there is a caddy one can even buy yet for the 2nd hdd bay.

    RMA ASUS G73 UPDATE

Well.... I now have a tracking number for my replacement unit!!! It should be here tomorrow afternoon. I hope to get really excited about it next week when no issues have poped up.

ASUS did a full burn in over the weekend and everything passed. So I am mostly confident that my new G73 should not have no hicups.

Thanks to everyone here on the threads, this is an amazing group of dedicate users. Could not have goten throughit without ya'll !

    Thanks !!!

ok so I have a quick question. anyone with an A1 that got the voodoo mouse, do you have or know where on the driver disc to find the mouse software. I can't find it and there is a little sheet that says to install it... I know the mouse works fine without it but I want to adjust the polling rate for my xbox adapter The voodoo software from HP doesn't work either

That's awesome to hear, Infared! Most of the early RMA's seem to be getting taken care of finally, no? Is there anyone left from that initial group here without at least a shipment coming?

I actually think I would have felt bad if I got mine before those that have been waiting weeks on a replacement - well, at least a little! Glad to hear those are generally getting covered.

hey guys can someone please help me out? I got my asus g73jh-a1 last friday. but it's been crashing constantly non stop. in-game or even web browsing and idling. sometimes i get vertical lines down the screen. sometimes i get a black/grey/red (and a few other colors) screen. the only way to get out of it is to power off the system. i have the 10.3 preview installed and everything appears to be up to date. Any suggestions on what to do?

I am considering restoring the system to it's original factory settings - if i'm able to.I did not receive a recovery cd. do i need one to restore the computer to factorys settings? (through startup using f9). i think someone said it worked for them.

I think I shall try doing some ram tests?

    Thanks

Go back to the old drivers and see if it does the same thing.

If so, it would mean your GPU is malfunctioning.

here, a person suggests changing the core/memory speed for i believe the desktop version of the graphic card. I was considering trying this with rivatuner seeing how the entry does not appear to exist so i'm not able to edit it. is this a good idea? seems somewhat risky.

    Thanks

If it is crashing right out of the box I would not even mess with it. RMA it. It sucks but the most probable cause of random crashing is RAM or mobo problems.

Wonderful, first BSOD, during Snowblind on BFBC2. Made a crazy noise and rebooted on its own. GPU temps were normal, but the power brick was mighty warm. BC2 seems to put a licken on it.

Guys, how is the G73 coping with 32man servers in BFBC2? I am worried the i7 720qm is not upto the job?

My clevo m860tu with Q9000 @2ghz and OCed GTX260m gets 15-35fps no matter what settings or res I play at :(
