Hi guys quick question. When my g73 isn't plugged in, it's fine. When I charge it or put it on a/c power the cpu is stuck at 1.6. I can't use turbo mode. I tried checking the power options and it's at high performance. How do I make the cpu able to hit above 1.6 again? It only returns to normal when I restart the computer without the a/c.

Does anyone try turn off the screen (Fn+F7) and turn the screen back on by tapping the touch pad.... it does not work for me somehow... not even pressing the space bar work...
I have to re-press (Fn+F7) to make it back on... weird...
-
it is preinstalled in Win7 I think.
-
check in the power4gear settings... on entertainment mode on battery the stock setting for max processor state is 80%... with that the intel turbo boost won't ever boost as its not ever hitting 100% on any core...
even on high performance mode that may have been changed to something other than 100% -
Well this works the same here but it's also exactly how I'd expect it to work.
Consider it a 'boss key" ;p -
It turns off your display...
It's not a sleep function or power saving function. Mouse or space bar won't work.
If you want mouse/keyboard go into power settings and set turn off display to 5 minutes or whatever. -
If you're trying to "put it to sleep", you need to hit Fn+F1, not F7.
-
Muttin your thoughts on SSD's are correct, If you are using Internet Explorer 8 - Opent the browser- open tools- internet options- browsing history - settings- then you will see the move folder option. I am glad you thought of this I will be doing this on mine also thanks to your post. Good luck with your system, Josea
BTW I clear mine once per week at least with the attached settings. -
Thanks. This actually inspires me to keep this laptop. I am sending it to Asus, hopefully they will send a new one to me. -
Has anyone gotten the Twin Turbo button to work after a clean install of windows? I think it uses the Power4Gear program but it's not listed in the downloads section on the Asus site.
-
If anyone else has had issue with the placement of the DVD bay button and it often being accidentally pressed while picking up the unit or even just sitting on your lap, I have found a free program that one can use to disable the button. It's called Toddler Keys (ha ha), but it does the job I was looking for personally. You can download it here:

Power4Gear is on the ASUS Driver & Utility disk. -
Is that the one it asked to create at first bootup? Mine didn't ship with one
-
First, twin-turbo "blows" and actually reduces performance on most applications. If you want to know why, read Vicious' or Mandrake's posts concerning this.
You can find Power 4 gear on Asustek's site, but not under G73. Select "notebooks" in the first dropdown, "Apps" in the second dropdown (not G73), and Power4Gear in the 3rd. I hate the way they organize their files!
The hard buttons on the laptop require the "Atk" package. The Power4Gear will enable the Twin Turbo button.
Good find, and funny name! -
No....it's the ASUS Driver & Utility disk.
Any new computer should come with one. You got no disks with yours? I would demand one from your vendor!
-
Guys, when is the 10.3 driver coming out?
-
i was just going to ask the same thing are there any newer vid card drivers for this other then the ones that come on the disc?
-
Official Catalyst 10.3 will be released tomorrow.

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
What, no love for all the Cinebench 10-11.5 work I posted on this
I thought I was leading that parade
-
Aww, Quag put your pants back on!
For most gaming and graphic benching the scores go down. I must have missed your Cinebench tests! -
yeah my vantage scores were better with Twin Turbo off...think it might help with video converting a slight amount but I just tend to leave it off
As far as the guy looking to get it to work, the g73 driver page on Asus has the atk and power4gear stuff that will get it working -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
lol, what's that supposed to mean?
I hit it all, multithread, full load, OpenGL, Vantage, Games, etc. More heat with same to worse performance. Asus TT was the first thing I went after and reported on. Oh well, I do see I type with invisible ink a lot.

Hi I got my g73-a1 last week
and im loving it
everything is what should have been
however i have a question..... where is the Express gate 8 second OS button?
Or is there another way to activate it?
I did get the manual with it and according to the websites this laptop should have it... i somehow dont know how to use it.... any one else thought about it?
not that its neeeeeeded, but i like the 8 second thing for a quicky email or chat.... Win 7 loads up pretty fast too, but if they said it and gave the manual, it should have been there. -
It's up on the upper left by the twin turbo button.
-
I thought it IS the twin turbo button (middle button, top left) -
Well, my G73JH-A1 is finally on the UPS truck and I should have it by Thursday. I was able to get the last one from B&H on Monday. They were kind enough to put it on hold for me until I could finalize my order that afternoon.
I also ordered the Intel 160GB SSD X25M along with the G73. I did have one question about setting up the new hard drive, does everyone suggest using Acronis to clone the primary drive over to the SSD or is there a better way to go about it? Sorry if this was posted earlier in the tread but I tried to look for it and didn't come up with anything concrete.
I can't wait for it to get here. -
I have just find out that my wireless card is not intel, I am wonder it that only me got Atheros AR9285 wireless card?
-
Intel isn't the stock card....did you order an Intel?
-
The Atheros is what is supposed to be included unless you did an upgrade with a reseller.
-
So Does Atheros AR9285 Wireless card support Wireless N mode?
If support how do active it? Thanks
-
I just bought Original factory model, didnt upgrade anyhting.
-
Just like any other wireless card- you just need to connect to a wireless N router/signal. There's nothing to activate.
Is your home network N? Are you seeing the signal? -
Yes I am using Netgear DGND3300, support dual channel, my card only can pick up G sinal?
-
Unless you have another N device to confirm it's broadcasting correctly, I would guess your router setup needs some tweaking.
-
Thanks for many help, also I like to ask I f I buy intel wireless card to install by myself, will be difficult to do it?
-
I used to own Asus M50Vn it has Intel 5100 card , and that laptop can pick up my wilreless N mode signal, so I find it is strange why Atheros AR9285 cant pick up?
-
Yes, the 2.4 GHz frequency band is the only one available on your card, so you can't use 5GHz.
It's still Wireless N though...What speed are you able to connect at when close to the access point? -
The 5100 IS a dual frequency card
-
I have jus bought it from Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260557324080&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Can someone hlep me will it card fit in G73JH? -
More info on the card you have (may help you match settings to access point). Looks like it only supports up to 150Mbps...the Intel 6200 can connect at 300Mbps.
Installation should be easy - it's right on top in the big access panel on the bottom. Two antenna wires and a couple screws
-
Good choice!
-
Other question is, Do others always put their battery on when plug into main power adaptor or just taking battery off to stop charging up the battery?
-
I would be interested in this question as well. On my old toshiba satellite (P105-S9337) I rarely used the battery unless in class. However I did not ever remove it from the laptop. After 3 years the battery capacity at full charge was 90%.
If this would be the average case for all laptops, then I would suggest just leaving the battery in, just in case the power connection is interrupted. -
sorry to go back to an older subject but where does it say the official catalyst 10.3 drivers come out tomorrow? just so i can get some verification and know what im doing
-
I never use the battery so I let it drain to 40%-50% and then take it out. If I need it someday I will put it back in and use it. It is debatable on whether you even need to take it out or not. I take it out because my last laptop, also a Toshiba Satellite, I left it in and it died after a little over a year.
-
ah tnx man. i tried googling for it but nothin came up.
-
I was doing some research on this a while back and in the past it was a good idea to take the battery out unless you needed it. However anymore with both the advances in the batteries and how they are charged it is no longer necessary to worry about disconnecting them in order to preserve their lifespan.
-
Yes, they a supposed to have some technology inside them so that you never have to take them out. I guess the main reason I do it is because it is less weight to pack around since I can plug it in everywhere I use it.

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Yup, the old Nickel Cadiums suffered from the "memory effect" and the Lithium based (G73 battery) doesn't have that problem. Good links for reading on the subject.
How to prolong lithium based batteries.
Lithium Ion vs. Nickel Cadium
Love that drama build up
