Has anyone successfully tethered an android or winmobile phone to their G73? I can't get any phone to tether to it and found one cryptic post saying the PM55 chipset had driver issues that kept it from working... could be the same for hm55.

What I did was find where the default wallpaper was and swapped it with the one I wanted to in that folder. No problems since.

I actually pointed it to a different folder entirely in that directory and got rid of the ones I didn't want. It's just weird that it keeps trying to swap to an "unsaved" theme. I may try moving the folders around tonight.

According to one retailer he is looking at about a 15% rma rate....that seems a bit high for a product overall but not overly high for a new to market tech product with first to market hardware.

Sweet. I won't be doing anything overly intensive with it (aside from gaming, of course), so this shouldn't be a problem. It should be here next week.

And how the hell did I end up setting my email as my username? That's what I get for filling out a form at 3 am.

Recently, I have using Windows update to update some windows 7 fix, but I have been aware that after the update My G73 has become very unstable and sometime carshed(locked up), and I have to press power button to force restart.

I always run Windows update in "Check for updates but let me choose..." mode.

I always install all important and recommended updates except driver updates.

Haven't had any problems since Windows XP days...

*edit* Note: For the G73JH A1, so far I've seen only one optional driver update - for the built-in Atheros Gigabit LAN adapter. I DID update that one and have had no problems with it.

Depends on where you get it. I got mine in a week from portableone. Xotic and gentech are probably on the wait list if they ordered in early march.

Just get an iPhone 3Gs and you'll be in Tether-Heaven! Literally plugged it in, connected to it, saved it as Home connection, and set it to auto connect. Now it's plug and play!

Most games seem fine on max that i've played, without AA on, but with the screen size I dont know if I can _really_ see much difference, I don't have the new battlefield tho :p Crysis seemed to work fine w/out AA, havent played much of it tho. Just played to go 'ooo ahh'

I did say that was for 5 weeks prior. that does not include this week. This week asus had the largest count of g73 shipped out. 15% was for all of february and early march. Hopefully that was just an anomaly though i doubt it. 15% is 14% too high. I think was just unlucky thats all

    Hi all,

Was wanting to ask what the blue-ray drive being supplied with the A1 model is like. What is the model/make?

At the moment I don't really need a blue-ray (unless I start hiring out Blu-ray movies I guess). I am deciding whether paying the extra $100US is a good deal, or if I should just buy one later on if I need it.

I will have no problem installing one myself at a later date.

Buy one later on when/if you decide to get into BR.

    1) You'll have the DVD drive as a backup that way.
    2) Not commiting any more money than you need (since you don't need it)

I know it's the button for turning the display off.

My previous Asus laptop allow me to manually turn the display off and turn it back on buy just tapping the touch pad or so... but this G73 simply not the same...

anyway.. not a big deal.. :)

I just downloaded the 10.3a driver, but how should I install them? the download software has a button to install but I have read that one should uninstall first the previous driver and then install the new one

Uninstall it. Run ccleaner registry cleaner if you want to. Can use the free driversweeper also. Restart, install your drivers.

Some like to run the ccleaner, driversweeper, drivercleaner etc in safemode also.

Personally I uninstalled the 10.3a, the performance drop in Borderlands was atrocious.

Can you burn the recovery disk to a Blu-ray disc?

I apologize in advance if this was already answered, but I didn't find it in search and didn't care to read through 280+ pages of chatter. Thanks.

That's a good question; I don't think anyone has tried it yet. What I would do, is use "Macrium reflect" free cloning software from download.com and clone the image to your second hard drive or even an external hard drive. I much prefer restoring an as is image from HDD because it is so much quicker.

I think someone has mentioned using a USB drive to make a recovery disk. If that is possible than I cannot see why it wouldn't be possible to do the same on a blu-ray disk.

    Hi Guys,

I have recently pre-ordered the G73JH-A2 model and have a quick question. I plan to wipe the OS from it, and install it with a Win 7 Prof copy on it. I know there are 2 hard drives in this laptop, and would like to be able to tell physically which harddrive the OS will be installed on.

I would like to know as I want to be able to remove the second harddrive sometime in future, and replace it with a larger capacity HD when it becomes available. I will primarily use the second harddrive as a backup for important files and stuff.

    Thanks for your inputs. :)

Thank you. I'm somewhat alarmed at the moment, maybe someone can clarify, as I'm pretty close to flipping out. I'm looking at CPU-Z under memory, and I'm seeing 4 sticks of ram manufactured by Hyundai Electronics running at 533mhz. I thought the G73 came with two sticks of ram at 1033 or 1333mhz, did I just get jipped?

Multiply that number (533) by two because it's double data rate memory = 1066MHz.

Make sure your turbine thrusters are running correctly. After that try these posts http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5915415&postcount=3371

If you use a mouse, I'd disable the touchpad in BIOS, and then uninstall the drivers for it. I can't stand the way it works. Also, if you use Steam there are some issues with the creative sound drivers, might want to uninstall those. I'd check to make sure all the ram you get is working properly, as some have had issues with only 6 gigs registering.

Outside of the fact that the two-finger scrolling driver I installed sometimes causes the zoom-in to kick in, I love the touchpad.

I wouldn't do anything but try it stock and decide for yourself what you like and don't like. Personally, I love nearly everything about my laptop, and I haven't done a ton of customization to it.

Couldn't find any other posts on this but, the touchpad button on mine only makes an audible click (and physical click) on the left button side, the right button side functions when pressed but does not click down . Is this the norm for the g73 and new PC laptops, or do I have a defective touchpad button?

Any got an answer for this?

I think he means to say that the OS is on the second partition. The first partition is the "hidden" partition with the Win7 recovery on it(16 Gb I think). Then the OS, and finally the leftover GBs after that. Then you have the second hard drive, which has 2 partitions. So, your G73JH will have 5 partitions total.

The hidden partition is required for the Asus backup application. Since Asus doesn't seem to be providing the recovery DVD, be sure to make your recovery DVD using that application before deleting the hidden partition.

Also I love the touchpad also. When I'm using an external mouse I turn it off, but it works great when I need it. Just be careful not to have your hand sprawling all over your laptop and should be fine.

Also someone mentioned there is a new version of the Bios on the Asus support site.

Took about a minute to install using the easy bios flash in the bios.

Haven't noticed any problems but no idea what the new bios update was about. Well I like having the latest bios regardless.

This is TOTALLY subjective but my Intel X-25 SSD seems MUCH faster after the BIOS (206) update; anyone else notice this or is it all in my head?

EDIT: Never mind, WEI and Crystal Mark scores the same, all in my head.
