After selling away my G51J-A1 and realizing both my desktop and secondary laptop weren't able to handle my AutoCAD and Modeling work very well specially at a time with a lot of major projects due I went ahead and ordered a G73JH-A2. I purchased it last Wednesday from Anitec.ca and managed to buy the very last one they had in stock. Since I'm in a bit of a rush I payed the extra charge and had it delivered to me today with express shipping(1-2 days) all the way from the province of British Columbia to Ontario. I wasn't planning to buy another laptop since I don't need a portable computer at the moment, but I didn't have the time to fix my other computers or build a powerful rig. While the laptop will probably spend the majority of its life-span on my desk at least I'll have the flexibility to carry it out if I have to. Long story short I'm now a ASUS G73JH owner and quite pleased so far. :D

Get CPU-Z. Check memory tab. If the speed is 667, its 1333 ram.

Alright, I have a couple questions.

I'm going to bump my previous post and ask how to do a clean install of WIN7 without a recovery disk.

And, this is probably just me being stupid, but I can't find the webcam program anywhere..Clicking on 'ASUS Virtual Camera' doesn't seem to do anything.

I would RMA it, dead pixel sucks.

The dead pixel warranty is only 30 days so make a decision fairly quick.

This screen resolution counts alot on your vision. Personally with glasses, they are for distance, I have 20/10. Without the glasses I have 40/10 or even slightly better when reading or doing close up. My 17" P7805-u 1920x1200 16:10 is perfectly clear and readable even with 8pt text and absolutlely no eye strain. so everyones mileage will vary.

I say this also as I bring the same laptop to work on occasion and all others there have no idea how I read the screen let alone use it for hours on end........

Run a few of the pixel fixer programs. They may or may not help, but it could save you from an RMA (not having computers sucks!)

I think a few are listed in the free software section of the Windows OS's forum, here on nbr.

    I love this thing!

It's fast, and no problems at all. So far I've tried a modded Oblivion and Left 4 Dead 2, both on MAX settings. Crysis (1) on max didn't hold up quite as well, but that's to be expected, and it was probably the fact that I had antialiasing on 8X.

heh your situation there reminds me of this guy i know. he wants 'the best' graphics card and the 'biggest screen' so he can play Flight Sims and WoW, but insists on setting his desktop at something low like the ladies above and he doesn't know how to mess with screen rez and graphic settings in games so he is stuck at the desktop rez normally while playing! :D

Then when i show up and tweak a setting he looks at me like some sort of magician! I let him think I am lol... ;) :D

Hmmm...got my first blue screen today, I was playing a video onto an external TV with HDMI audio out

Started a different video and it blue screened, rebooted and suddenly my hdmi was not working. May be a 10.3 issue i suppose, hopefully this is not a hardware issue with hdmi audio out because this laptop figures to be my blu ray player/htpc for the new 58" plasma that is on its way

trulshrok, which 10.3, a or preview?

On a side rant, OMG what a horrendous patch for Dirt 2. No need to go into I guess, but I revounistalled all Dirt 2 crap to get rid of registry keys and leftover files. I am reinstalling and will stay away from any GFWL connection while playing it.
Made that game unplayable and dangerous to my machine. Codemasters Facepalm.

I am now an official member of this Club. My A2+BD arrived from Gentech late yesterday. However there is an issue already despite Kens team putting hte system through testing before shipping.

When I hit the desktop for the 1st time I went through the process to make the set of 6 recovery dvds. Once completed I started to check out the installed bloatware to see what I should remove. I started uninstalling the ms office trial and while doing so the Laptop blue screens.

On rebooting I get a message saying no bootable device. Bios see's both HDs however when checking the file system via the easyflash tool it wasnt showing up the primary HDs.

I went to bed thinking the HD died after 3 hours. Woke this morning, system booted but when it got to desktop blue screened again. On reboot the same thing happened. Primary file system isnt seen and system not booting.

I am going to try to reseat the HD to see if it makes any difference.

Are there any other suggestions to see if it is definitely a faulty HD? It seems odd that it has died / is dying seeing as the system was tested for 2 days before Gentech shipped it. I can only imagin e it happened in transit to the UK.

I will probably end up swapping the HDs around and restoring the recovery HDs to the 2nd drive to see if a similar thing happens. The only time Ive seen similar behaviour on a system that wasnt a dudd drive was on a desktop where the drive wasnt getting enough power. But I wouldnt expect that from a laptop.

I remember you from the G51 forum. We both sold the G51 for the G73. I had to RMA my first one, but I am very happy to have traded up to this laptop. Miles above the G51 IMO.

Bah, I definitely have a dead HD.

I have removed the primary drive and tried to connect it to my desktop using an external SATA caddy I have and it doesnt detect the file system either.

I am currently doing a restore from my 6 dvd backup onto the secondary drive after putting it into the primary slot. Once its complete and confirmed working I will have to try to RMA the HD.

Im guessing being in the UK with the Global Warranty I will need to RMA it with ASUS support over here. Has anyone had to do this who had one shipped internationally yet?

To those who just received systems without the recovery disk I would suggest taking the 3 hours to make the set which spans 6dvds. If the drive had died before I did this I would have been screwed.

Anyone know notice some weird text sizing/icon sizing with their G73JH when they got it? Maybe I am used to viewing it differently, but it seems weird to me.

I tried to adjust the DPI, it was set to Medium(default) so setting it to Small looked too small. Checked the screen resolution as well, it was set to 1080. So... not sure at all. Text seems too big on programs, like Firefox, view the FF titlebar and the taskbar icons below. Enclosed is a screen shot, any help would be appreciated.

That's not Asus issue, that's Windows. Resize your stuff dude, look it up on google.

Also your picture is massive, either give us a link or resizing would be nice.

Does the 30 day pixel policy include dead pixels, or just stuck pixels as previously mentioned. I can't imagine a laptop with dead pixels not being covered.

Yea, I'm quite pleased with this thing myself. Like I said before, I wasn't planning to buy another laptop after selling away my precious G51J, but I had to find a replacement computer in a short notice, capable of handling my tasks and the G73JH was definitely the right choice. :)

I am back to the 9.12 drivers myself. I noticed an unusual flicker to the windows boot screen when I ran those 10.3P drivers (one can see this in my SSD boot video) and it wasn't there when I ran stock drivers.

I'm doing kinda what ziddy does, running Asus stock drivers, but using the CCC, Hydravision, etc. of the 10.3P. I will likely keep doing this until Asus officially changes their driver version. When the official 10.3 come out, I will update the CCC, audio, etc., but not the 2D and 3D drivers.

Actually, at that distance the full benefit of 1440 is visible going by the chart. ;)

It's just a guideline to give people an idea how distance, screen size and resolution all work together.

Sorry for the large pic, I just linked it directly. I never said it was 'asus', I was just asking if anyone else got their laptop like that by default, and what they did to fix it. I also did mention in my post that I did try resizing the text, icons, etc. Ironically, it turned out to be the ASUS Theme on Windows 7, had to switch it to Windows 7 default theme and sizing is fine now :)

Just a followup. I just received my replacement keyboard. Popped open the 5 latches, pulled out 2 cords and replaced it with the new keyboard. Now the keyboard works as expected. It works perfectly. No more stuck spacebar. I can tap anywhere on the spacebar (top/middle/bottom) and it works as it should. So far I give them 4/5 stars (the missing star is the ground shipping which took 7 days to get to NYC from CA plus I have to pay for return shipping for the part. The free return shipping is only when I send the entire unit back which I didn't want to because of my data and the 1333 RAM).

I hope everyone is enjoying this awesome laptop as much as I have. I played the following games (some hooked up via HDMI w/ xbox 360 controller to my TV) with no issues at all with max settings

    - BioShock 2
    - Batman Ark.
    - CnC 4
    - Mass Effect 2
    - Prototype
    - Dragon Age Origins
    - Resident Evil 5
    - Street Fighter IV
    - Supreme Commander
    - Warhammer 40k - Chaos Rising
    - Kings Bounty Armored Princess
    - StarCraft 2 Beta

The keyboard rest area was always cool as designed which is great. :)

Also, can anyone link to the post/thread where it is listed for bloatware removal. Been looking for it.

I abandoned my old SSD build and just did a fresh W7. It worked as well as the first time with a recovery disc. If you install a fresh W7 onto an Intel x25m G2 like mine, you will not have to do anything as it will all be properly recognized and appropiate SSD selections made (e.g. no defrag). You can disable indexing if you wish.

My new build is lean and mean. Right off the bat, my AS SSD and Atto scores were smokin and boot, shutdown and reboot times as good as ever.

I will not be updating anything video for a while.

And also if you have a 34nm intel x25-m or x18-m, don't forget to get the Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox and run the SSD Optimizer once a week.

Has anyone found out if you can purchase the extended warranty through ASUS directly? NCIX, unfortunately, doesn't sell the extended warranty.

I wouldn't worry about anyone ordering from their ebay store getting theirs before you. I ordered from their store, and was fooled by their estimated time of delivery. The day it was supposed to be delivered rolled around, and they said they were on back-order for the rest of the month. I'm assuming they have the e-bay store so they can get quick cash from suckers thinking they'll actually get it from e-bay faster than their online store.
