I lost my keyboard lights as well.
I hope it's not the updated BIOS - it can't be rolled back lol
-
i never had it ><
have you try reinstall the drivers? -
Yes - had keyboard lights, no longer have them.
Yes - reinstalled drivers.
I'm waiting on a new keyboard and if they still don't work I'll need to send it in. -

I like to ask, when I sitting in my room with my G73 on table, I can hear right hand side the cooling fans spin sound but not very lound, the left hand side fan is very quiet cant hear any fan spin sound. I like to know is that normal. Also the right hand side always spin very quietly is that normal when I just watch movie and internet?
-
Quiet fans should be normal. After all, they advertise the cooling as "deadly silent"
Do something CPU and/or GPU-intensive for a while....the fan(s) should speed up and will probably be noticeably audible (although I still find them relatively quiet compared to, say, my desktop machine). You can also feel the difference with your hand in front of the exhaust ports.

I'm hoping that's what it is in my case, and that the new keyboard will fix it.
Backlighting was mandatory spec for me, so one of the reasons I picked this machine was for that, so I want and expect it to work. -
After 14hours of BFBC2 yesterday, I finally felt a little heat out of the left fan. I could also finally actually hear the right fan
They tried to make the cooling system quiet....why do you want to hear it so badly? Maybe put a playing card in the spokes... -
Well, I am OFFICIALLY an OWNER now.
Just about to unbox.
Here is hoping that I got a "non-lemon".
Will report back soon! -

When I first got my G73 I thought the CPU fan might be broken it was so quiet and moving so little air in everyday use, but it's just an efficient system which was one of the major design goals for this model. -
I just unboxed my A2 yesterday and got Global Agenda setup on it. This is the first game I have played on it, but..what a rush. I went from playing on an old Athlon 64 3000+ and 6600GT chugging along at 800x600 with everything off and still lagging - to playing at 1920x1080 with everything maxed and flying along. Sick, sick piece of equipment. I can't wait to get other games on it.

I just found the 5 button RoG mouse software here:
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=8je5Ot4HBnKOdT81
On the download tab under windows 7 64 bit => USB
This may have already been posted somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet and I know some folks were searching for it a while back. Looks like it was made available or updated on the 19th. -
Just in the middle of making the RECOVERY DISC set.
Once I finish, is there any "must-dos" that I should explore?
E.g. Update windows? Install my Anti-Virus software? Test out a blu-ray or dvd movie? Delete any bloatware? Install any programs? Download Firefox? etc...???
Should I run CPU-Z?
What about Belarc Advisor?
Also - I am going to install my Office 2007...do I need to delete the trial first? Or do I just start the install off of the disc?
Thanks! -

i try opening it last night to check the sockets, un screw everything, but had no idea how to open it >< anyone know of a guide? -
Sorry just on the side note, when i press the turbo button it switches between entertainment or twin turbo mode is that normal? is there no normal mode?
is it good for the laptop if i keep it on twin turbo all the time?
thank you -
No need to open....keyboard comes off top.
There's a link to a guide on this thread or the other big G73 thread. I downloaded it but forgot to save a bookmark, sorryShould be able to search for it here.

Well - 3 hours in and I "might" be having issues already. Not sure how to tackle the situtation...
After about 2 minutes following boot up and login to windows, I am getting VERY LAGGY performance...ie mouse skipping, things opening and closing with stuttering, basically it is like I am on a Pentium 3 again.
Any ideas?
Everything was working smooth as butter until I finished making the recovery discs and downloaded my Anti-Virus software...and started updating it.
Then the issue started - I thought it might have been the update, but I stopped the update and it still happened, so I rebooted and it is still happening.
I am typing this on my desktop as anything I do on the laptop would take 100x the time...
Ideas? -
Go to control panel/programs and features and remove all unwanted software.
Install anti-virus if you use it. I personally hate McAfee and have wasted 100s of hours with norton/symantec BLOATcrapware hehe. I like Avast.
Install all Windows updates. I use "check for updates automatically but let me decide" mode, so I can deny driver updates if they are accidentally forced on me. I rarely install optional updates, but pretty much install all recommended or critical ones....driver updates I look at closely. Some companies do push new drivers through Windows update.
I would uninstall any pre-installed office stuff before installing full version.
Install firefox if you use it. 3.6.2 is latest.
Install games and play! -
WHAT?!?! comes off? i opened it and it wont come off ><
do you remember at all what the like was call? ill search for it -
Ya - I think it was the Kaspersky I installed clashing with the Trend Micro that was on the comp preinstalled.
Once I was able to remove the Trend Micro - all issues are gone.
Thanks for the steps and advice...I am proceeding to do those things.
Thanks!

Nothing to open....comes off the top.

I have had really good luck with the free and fully functional Microsoft Security Essentials. Its light enough to not harm my system but has protected things quite well.
Any of the more hardcore virus protection software have always done more harm than good for me. So much that I went without any AV software for about 4 years until MSE came out.

Anybody have tried the ATI 10.3 official graphic card driver, It said to be release today, and I like to know does it has any difference with 10.3a driver?
-
Could someone repost the link to the 5-button mouse site for software download?
Thanks!
Also - does anyone know how to LOWER the sensitivity of the "click" on the mouse wheel? Every time I scroll I click it - how annoying! -
opened it check the cables

Is anyone else having problems with slightly loose keys? Could just be me, because I'm a major perfectionist over stuff like this. -

Ok, so I have had my A1 for 12 hours and I am happy to say - so far, so good!
Received my laptop from PC Canada via UPS today 3/24 at 2pm EST.
Ordered on 3/18.
Have created recovery discs (6 - took 2hrs 10 minutes).
Have installed AntiVirus software - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.
Downloaded Firefox.
Downloaded WinDVD 8 from Asus website - plays Blu-Rays flawlessly as well as DTS DVDs which Windows Media Player wouldn't play the sound for.
Set up my home network with my Vista Desktop - works great.
Tested out regular DVDs and BluRays - all good.
So far no issues despite a little ugly battle between stock AntiVirus (MicroTrend) and Kaspersky which seemed to create a glitchy stuttering situation that was rectified once uninstalling MicroTrend.
All is running smoothly. Haven't done any tests or anything involving hardware, etc... but downloaded CPU-Z and Belarc Advisor to get a breakdown of the computer...
Have 1333 RAM. All 8GB working.
No keyboard issues at all so far - actually LOVE the keyboard. Was easy to get used to. Backlighting, etc.. working flawlessly.
Screen is excellent - VERY bright. Not sure I will be able to leave it on full brightness as it makes my desktop monitors appear dim in contrast.
Love the layout of the laptop with the rubberized coating, etc... ports seem solid.
Backpack is "ok"...nothing special. Not sure if I will get something else or not... Easily fits in and out - no tightness.
Mouse is a good one, but I still don't like that I press on the trackball when scrolling - will have to see if I can turn it off with the software at the Asus site. Also find that "double-clicking" is not as responsive as I would like. But, I can handle living with this mouse - upgrading will NOT be a priority.
Other than that NO COMPLAINTS.
Next steps:
- Register warranty card for Accidental Damage Protection
- Register online for extra 1 year warranty I purchased
- Download some commonly used programs (Skype, Messenger, etc...)
- Add my favorites to Firefox, etc...
- Organize all my shared folders between my desktop and laptop
- Decide if I will upgrade the wireless card to the Intel 6200 (no reason to yet)
- Install Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
- Try out some games
- Get a Wireless N router - although my G connection is flawless so far!
- Decide on a cooling pad - not sure if needed?
- Download the MOUSE software from Asus
- Get rid of some bloatware
- Play around with settings, etc...
- Set up Itunes, etc...
- Not sure if I will purchase BD software as so far WinDVD8 is good
Not sure if I will ever bother with a clean install or upgrading to Windows Pro....might just wait until I get an SSD to do that step.
I am pretty happy and will report back as things go with updates on the machine....so far - very nice purchase.
