    Thanks man....back at ya!

I did it to myself - I didn't really need to try to flash BIOS (and not sure why it failed) but I want my keyboard lights so this forces me to quit procrastinating and send it in. I'm just so afraid it will come back not working so well anymore. Out of my hands now though!

I'm packaging it for shipment right now.

On the bright side, I saved all the original packaging so I can ship it back triple boxed as it came, and I got to play BFBC2 through to the end. :)

Funny that Asus keeps suggesting it in their support calls...

That damn Win Flash utility crashed for me, even if I just exited out of it without doing anything. That should have been a red flag. Of all software crashes to worry about, a BIOS flash utility should be tops :)

There's now a big empty hole on my desk (and in my heart) where my G73 used to be

We'll be together again soon... :)

Ugh, the BIOS flash built into the BIOS is VERY easy to use, copy the new bios to a USB stick, reboot into the BIOS, select the BIOS update option and locate the BIOS update on the USB stick. I really don't know why they still offer that WinFlash crap, considering the additional risk of the update getting interrupted by a Windows error.

No doubt, this is actually Computer Room 101, one only updates the BIOS if:

    A) Addresses a specific issue/problem you're having
    B) Needed for new component support
    C) Known to improve performance

I didn't want to update 206 (I was told to by Asus), I don't update a BIOS unless it is clear what it does and "Firmware Update" doesn't mean diddly. At least 205 states a specific support reason.

Outstanding Mark, way to bring it back from the Abyss.

Thanks striker, also answered you on the tube. It's in a race against Mark I suppose, hey Mark, chime in when yours gets there :D

I don't this is a problem with Asus or ATi. I believe it's TSMC, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Nvidia, VIA, ATi etc all outsource their manufacturing to TSMC.

You can read numerous articles where TSMC have openly told ATi and Nvidia that the 40nm architecture is unreliable and low yields.

I believe the differences in the temperatures are purely random from the unreliable TSMC 40nm manufacturing.

TSMC is not intel when it comes to manufacturing unfortunately.

Back from the abyss? It was dead as a paperweight when I boxed it up and shipped it!

Still, the lady at FedEx/Kinkos had to pry the box from my tear stained hands. "Let it go" she said... "It's time".

    hehe

I still haven't got through Far Cry or even started Far Cry 2, and they both run fine on my desktop, so at least I have stuff to kill while I wait...

It's a race, my estimate is 3/30. My 1st RMA made it From FL to Oakland in 32hrs by air, but then it took 36hrs to get from Oakland to Union City which I swear they are walking it between those two points.

Hell, I would of told Asus I am driving it there, well, maybe not your case, but my 1st one I would have since I knew it would be replaced.

Someone please make me a vid, lol.

Any specific types of vids you're looking for? Or just gaming vids in general, since the majority of yours seemed to focus on that area? I can't make any right now obviously, but I'll be making a few when I get mine, and you might inspire others.

Used the "easy flash" option in the bios to upgrade it to 206 even though it was running fine (on factory gfx drivers that is, 10.3 official now). Went just fine, perhaps a bit safer too without any software running at the same time.

I'd recommend flashing asap when u can lol so any possible problem that would occur while doing that is still covered by the warranty. Imagine needing to flash in 2 years and then it bricks.

And I'd recommend not flashing a bios unless you're addressing a specific problem that you need resolved. I don't mess with bios unless I have to, or it provides a definitive benefit.

If I decide in the future that I want to upgrade my A2 to a Blu-Ray, what's the best path for that? Where would I get the drive, and is it a big issue to slot it in there?

Mine arrived in Oakland 3:38 PDT, go Snapper, you can do it :)

Mark, you're just not going to believe me on this Oakland to Union City part are you ;) At least now I know our turtles are racing on the same track.

I have a dollar that says they are both delivered by 10am PDT Tuesday in Freemont and it's only a matter of which one is signed for first. My 2nd trip back is taking the same times on the same days as my first.

    View attachment 47562

Well, either mine hasn't updated yet or you truely have a day jump, wouldn't make sense as I was in Oakland first, but none of my experience with the G73 makes any sense. The first one didn't leave Oakland until after the weekend. Maybe CA takes care of their own first :)

I'll get that dollar ready along with the pots and pans I'll need to make some turtle soup :D

EDIT: Oh wait, does your 05:38 mean the 24hr clock, because mine would then be 15:38, yup, that's it. I haven't changed my new desktop clock to 24hr yet.

Toggle lights on laptop/turbo mode/display mode.

I'm using the Asus ROG mouse that came with the laptop, and it's set the sensitivity to some ridiculous value. I've changed the cursor settings and some in-game settings, but these are cheap fixes. Is there anyway to set the mouse back to default?
I have no idea what happened.

One of them is for lights, one is for Twin Turbo, and the last is for the Splendid video mode. Not sure about the drivers.

Do you have the mouse driver and software installed? It's available on the ASUS website for the G73, look under the Download tab and USB.

I haven't downloaded anything for the mouse. I'm using it as it came. But when I check for new drivers under it's options page, it says I'm up to date. (Last driver in 06..??)

Should I install the one you posted?

Looks like yours arrived in Oakland 7 minutes after mine left Oakland....I have a head start! Go turtle go!

I get a lot of stuff online from California companies....ground transpo pretty fast, so must be a lot of trucks going up and down the state daily. The plane slowed you down :)

IT will allow you to assign the buttons and it seemed to help the dpi button (the button on top behind the wheel) function. The DPI is your sensitivity. It adjusts from 800 to 3200 DPI.
