It should definitely be better (and get louder) than a Gateway 7811FX; if it's not you have a problem.
-
I haven't heard the asus g73 in person yet, but when I owned the gateway FX, it wasn't the loudest crispest sounding speaker I've used. So far my favorite laptop sound is the DELL XPS m1730. Friggin thing is LOUUUUD and clear too.
-
Sound is pretty nice on this beast.
-
So, been using the laptop for 2 days now...
Freaking awesome! Great machine. No issues with hardware whatsoever.
Keyboard is great.
Only complaints at all so far is...
- a bit heavy - but to be expected
- backpack is very basic - could use some extra pockets
- rubber grips on bottom can peel easily, but also stick back on easily...not sure if I should crazy glue them on - as I don't want to lose 1 somewhere by accident
- fingerprints on outside of case form easily
Things I really like....besides mostly everything...
- Screen is gorgeous and bright
- Sound is awesome for a laptop
- Keyboard is very comfy
- Mouse is very decent
- Whisper Quiet...if yours isn't - something is very wrong
- Cool - not very warm anywhere
- Sleek - love the look - very business-like in my opinion
- Backlighting on keyboard is great
- Everything is laid out nicely and ports seem sturdy
- Warranty rocks!
- Windows 7 - very solid
So, there is 1 thing I am not sure about...so far so good with the wireless card (Atheros)...has anyone who upgraded to the 6200, used both and had some comparisons they could discuss?
I am not sure if I should upgrade this or not....want to know if I will notice any differences at all.
Thanks! -
Hello all,
Really need help. I am thinking to buy this laptop. But looking only if it has very bright and ultra sharp screen? Please help before I buy if this laptop has very sharp and bright screen. Please help before order it. -
Please refer to post above yours.

I think the 2 things I love the MOST about this laptop are:
1. IT IS DARN SILENT!
2. THE SCREEN IS SO NICE - BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL and COLOR ACCURATE
Falling in love again...!

Need your help.
Where can I order configured G73 with Crucial SSD or at least Intel X25-m? -
-
question for you guys that have removed and/or swapped the keyboard....
After you removed (and possibly replaced) did you re-apply the double sided tape or not? -
-
-
Look closely at the specs of the two.
The Atheros only operates on the 2.4GHz frequency band, while the 6200 can use 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Without a dual-frequency wireless-N access point, the 6200 isn't going to give you much more.
The max bit rate for the Atheros is 150Gbps, the 6200 max is 300Gbps. These bit rates are theoretical maximums, as the wireless connection quality will determine actual bit rates, and that will vary as you move around. Chances are, your internet connection is much slower than both these speeds, so if all you use network for is to get to the internet, the 6200 probably won't bring much to the table. If you have a home network connecting different machines and you do a lot of transferring data between them, however, the 6200 will be a benefit (providing you've got the matching access point). -

Finally open my box yesterday and I can say this thing is awesome.
Did a 3D Max, and my Max GPU Temperatures were 79C.
No hardware issue whatsoever. Keyboard is fine.
With everyone reporting RMA, I can't believe I waited 3 days after receiving it to finally open the box.
You'd think I tear it open the 1st minute I got it.
Anyways, I'm happily typing and enjoying this laptop right now
Will report back if there's any problems or any questions. ^^ -
Wow I don't know how you were able to wait that long! -
I'm ripping my package open the moment I get it, RMA's don't scare me.

XopicPC offers Intel X25-m SSD I think but it be cheaper to install it urself i think.

At last, a great news!

Right now I am on an old wireless G router...but will be getting a dual band gigabit lan wireless router soon - wireless b/g/n.
My internet connection is 10mbps.
I do transfer quite a bit of stuff between the laptop and the desktop - but that is all. Usually photos and such.
Any more opinions?
-
but fortunate enough that the Asus technical support centre is 20 mins of driving...
He bring it in and they replace his keyboard.. and the backlight turn back on... -
I've had an extra 500 GB HDD sitting here since I bought my G73jh-X2 not knowing what to do with it. I saw some back-and-forth early on about ways to make or find a cage for the second bay, but can't find the posts now. Couple questions...
- For those with the X1 versions, what are people using to jury-rig the second bay to hold an HD?
- Is there an available cage from Asus or elsewhere yet?
-
Cool. I hope the fix on my RMA'd machine is that simple. I don't want them to replace anything beyond the keyboard - just fix the lights!
They do have to get the brick to boot first though lol -
One opinion. Get the 6200. It's relatively inexpensive and fast. When you get your new router you'll be even more pleased -

Can someone tell me the best free software to use for bd playback and where I can find it. I have an g73 a-1 and it seems to have been left out. Also my fan has started making noticeable noise on start up but quiets down pretty quick. It actually sounds like a creaky door closing right before it quiets down. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanx for your help.

ASUS provides Blu-ray software at http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/WINDVD/DVD8_OEM-ASUS_BD-2CH-DTS.zip

I was wondering if codec packages such as K-lite would be able to play blu-rays?

Will probably end up being really dumb questions, but I have some nonetheless.
I have gotten my G73 and I've only had two 'issues' with it - otherwise I love it.
1) I put my G73 to sleep, when I woke it up all the lights came on and the backlighting and everything, but the screen wouldn't turn on. I hit fn+f7, tried fn+f6 and nothing worked. So I put it back to sleep using fn+f1 and woke it up again - that cleared the issue. Is there something I can do to stop that from happening again, or is it some deeper issue?
2) Clicking here will demonstrate what I am talking about. I will be playing BF BC2 (just got it for my bday from a buddy) and I will be playing and all of a sudden that dialogue box will come up making the game unplayable. Is there something I can do to get it to stop coming up? I haven't been able to figure out all of the keyboard combinations that cause it to happen, I know cntrl+space does, so I have avoided accidentally hitting jump while crouching, but it still sometimes comes up. I also noticed that cntrl+space changes my keyboard language to chinese (how do I stop that from happening?), and caps lock makes it windowed.
Sorry, I am a Win7 noob - I switched to the G73 after using a MacBook Pro with OSX and a bootcamped XP for 4.5 years. -
Anyone here have a spare few minutes to copy your Utility/Driver disc and PM a .iso download link to me? =)
I have $3 in my Paypal for your time. xD -
My only complaint so far after a few days with the A1 is that the keyboard backlighting doesn't come up when logging in.
Oh well. -

Nope, you're not the only one. I've only seen it at 1.09MB everytime. Maybe it's a supplement to the Desktop d/l, anyone with "official 10.3s" want to chime in for us here please.
Q. -
-
The 1.09 MB is just the ATI installer, once installed it will actually download and install the drivers for you
-
I've had it in Just Cause and I believe in Entropia Universe even lol. -
hey guys,
i finally got my G73JH-TZ037V 2 days ago, I'm very impressed only a few things make me sick, the price i paid about 2300 USD for my notebook, without a backpack and without a mouse like in the USA =( I cant understand ASUS?!
I looked with everest at the values and here in germany we have DDR3-1333 inside, well thats the only good issue in front of the usa!
Does anyone knows where to buy the original backpack and the mouse for the G73JH separately?! -
I've asked a couple people and no one has responded. -
just get it off Asus..
-
How do you know the turbo-boost is working? After a clean install, the turbo-boost button doesn't seem to react to me. (Yes, I installed all drivers to the point where nothing comes up as unknown.)
Is the Turbo-boost really worth it? At what times would you use it? -
