I havent actually used the turbo yet other than to do a vantage run and the score was around 50 less than not having turbo enabled.

But the easiest way I know to find out if its doing anything is to run CPU-Z or equivalent and check the bus speed. With Turbo off sitting at the desktop my bus speed is 133mhz, if I push the turbo button it goes up to 142mhz.

quick question on registering for the one year asus accidental damage warranty.

David, mentioned in a previous post that you have to register online and also mail it, so I'll just do both to be safe.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5691727&postcount=6

But for Date of Purchase, do I just use the pre-order date that is on my invoice from gentech?

Just concerned, since it says you have to register within 60 days and the only date I see on my invoice is the Jan 9th which is the date I pre-ordered.

You should ask GenTech to send you a properly dated invoice showing the ship date, which is what controls.

There is no need to register both online and through the mail since you HAVE to mail in your properly dated invoice anyway.

Get what off of Asus? Show me a link.

The website download section doesnt have all of the drivers that come on the Utility/Driver disc.

Didnt think it would be a big deal someone taking 5 minutes to upload it to rapidshare or something.

I think he lost his utility/driver disc..

    @Original poster
If you don't have it anymore see if you can either find it A) Online on pirate websites B) Ask your reseller if they would be kind enough to provide you with one or C) Call Asus.

I highly doubt anyone will upload 2 Gigs of utility/drivers but you never know.

Q#2: on your toolbar, there will be language bar. try to click all of clickable buttons on that bar or rightclick on it (I am not with my g73 right now so i am not too sure). As long as u hit setting... menu. delete Chinese (Taiwanese) in keyboard tree.

I picked up my G73JH-RBBX05 yesterday and I just have a few questions (sorry if they've been asked before):

    1. The laptop comes with 6GB RAM but Windows would only read 2GB. BIOS said there was 6GB on the laptop. I spoke to Asus Tech Support and a friend opened the bottom and reseated the RAM. After that, Windows reads 6GB (not too sure what fixed it). Should I be concerned that there may be some sort of hardware problem or anything? Or am I good to go? Also, why is it when I go to msconfig and go to Advanced Options under Boot and check off the "maximum memory", Windows reads that there's 6GB memory present but only 4.93GB usable? Note that this is my second one I'm trying out (first one had dust under the screen) and the first one read the memory properly.
    2. How do I enable Express Gate?
    3. Is there a way to disable the multitouch on the touchpad? I find myself zooming things in and out far more than I want to

I'll probably be back with more questions soon enough :D

Hey Lumina :D Looks like we both just picked up this beast.... umm sorry dont know the answer about the memory question.

By multi-touch, do you mean when you have 2 fingers on touchpad and it zooms the webpage? (im new to laptops xD) I had to disable that too, it was getting really annoying.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse then click on the Device Settings tab. Then click on the "Settings" button then click Pinch Zoom on the left and uncheck the box.

^Hopefully thats what you wanted, if not sorry

No one ever said it bothered them. But you did ask multiple times, and if it is in fact a very large file (ie >500MB) you are asking for someone to upload, chances are no one is going to do it, because it would take a very long time. If it was only a small file you were asking for, someone would probably do it because it wouldn't take very much of their time. At this point, I'd say your best bet would be through Asus.

Edit: I can't spend more than 2 minutes making replies on this forum anymore lol. By the time I'm done, someone's already covered it.

I do that all the time. I'm going to get some use out of that post too! I thought the only way to get rid of that would mean I'd also lose my two-finger scrolling, which I love.

Since I know someone will probably ask for it, here's the link:

    http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/downloads/list

Latest version works great for me and I think it's a big improvement over the current scroll on the touchpad.

Its cool. With torrents and all of the upload sites nowadays, i didnt think it was that big of a deal. Once again, sorry for asking. Already emailed Asus and its a no-go. Ive asked multiple times because these forums move fast and stuff can get lost. Ill just keep asking around and hopefully someone has the time to do it.

Just curious, what are you looking for off of the driver disk? I'm sure if you could be a little more specific then someone will be able to help you. Also, I'm willing to pay big money that you can find all of the content online. Just search around for the specific files.

Some more comments about the machine...

    Pros

    Whisper Quiet
    Fast
    Slick
    Backlighting is really cool
    Ports are sturdy

    Cons

Rubber grips on bottom can come loose
Backlighting won't come on until AFTER login (sucks if using a password)
Rubberized coating is nice, but still picks up prints and hard to remove because they kinda get absorbed

Overall - I am very happy with the machine. I have really no complaints except the ones above - two of which might be fixable.

Wondering if there is any way to set the keyboard lighting to come on before the login screen with a hack?

Also might have to remove and crazy glue those rubber grips onto the bottom of the machine.

My rubber pads come off too. I am thinking about crazy glue also.

You can set your password to be entered automatically if you want. Type in the start menu netplwiz and uncheck the users require password at login box. When you hit apply it will let you enter your password so you can turn on the computer without having to type it in everytime.

All of the drivers and utilities are on Asus's site here. Select notebook then select G73 then G73jh and hit search.

DO NOT USE CRAZY GLUE!! The pads came off of my older G1 and I was about to use crazy glue when I remembered that it can potentially 'eat' the rubber. Used Gorilla Glue. Let it set for a couple of hours. Worked like a charm.

I have a question for everyone. I just bought my G73 today from BB, with the 1600x900 res screen. I've tried running 3DMark Vantage and for some reason no matter what settings I change it keeps giving me an error saying Minimum resolution not suppored, and won't let me run Vantage. I've changed just about everything I can think of even to res settings it supports. Can someone tell me what to do here, or if it's just not possible?

So I finally got a chance to play with my G73 back. Win 7 was installed on the 500GB HDD rather than the 160GB SSD. I installed Win 7 on the SSD and formatted the 500GB HDD, but on boot up it still shows two Win 7s to start from. Is this because of the recovery partition on the HDD?

Just to be sure, you booted up with the spinner OS still on the drive and the drive still in the pc while you installed a new OS on the SSD?
Then you formatted the spinner OS out while in your SSD OS?

In this case, your pc was booted with 2 OSs and your boot manager was fitted with dual boot config regardless of formatting the spinner drive after the fact.
It's too late to tell you what you should have done, but now you either need to learn the hard way of fixing you boot manager or find a boot manager program that you can run to make it easier to remove the second OS that's still in the file.

I can't remember the good free dual boot program I used on Vista, you'll have to break out the google or you can look at EasyBCD.

EDIT: VistaBootPro was the program, easy to use. I bet it works with W7.

For anyone else that installs a fresh OS on a SSD:
    1) Just have the Seagate drive in the PC (leave SSD out for now)
    2) Use a Vista or Win7 iso (all over the net) and go through the initial steps to load windows (you're not going all the way), when you get to the HDD selection part, use that menu to format your Seagate. This will clean the OS off.
    3) Remove Seagate drive and install SSD in the appropriate slot.
    4) Install your OS on the SSD, finish it.
    5) Put your Seagate in the other slot.

This will prevent your pc seeing 2 OSs and setting up a dual boot system. It will also prevent any possible confusion when installing the OS on the SSD.

Um Asus HAS to include the disc/driver utilities. It doesn't make sense for them not to. The os disc I can understand but the driver/utilities disc should be included.

Ya, but the whole point of a password is to make sure no one can get into your OS without having to type one in, right?

If I don't have to type it in, then if someone else gets ahold of the computer, then they don't either, right?

It doesn't seem like there is a point to enter it automatically - might as well not have one then?

    Am I right?

If you live where others can access you computer while you are not around than it makes sense to have to type it in.

But if that is not an issue then a password is still recommended so that others can not access your hard drive on a network without a password. In this case, you are the only one who uses your pc, so typing in your password all the time is a pain, so it can be set to automatically go in when you log on.

If it makes you feel any better, if I have physical access to your computer, not having the password will not slow me down. I can change the password to whatever I like in less than three minutes.

Auto login is not really a huge deal if your primary concern is someone walking up to your computer and using it to peruse your files. It would save me the trouble of having to fish my flash drive out of my pocket and boot to it. ;)

I do enter my password every time I boot, though. It keeps the inept snoopers out of my stuff.

Finished backing up hard drive last night and after rebooting was treated to this great display (see attached screen shot). Now, no matter what I do, when the machine starts up the video is basically screwed. Left half of the screen is bright white/varying and the right side is moired/distorted.

Anyone have any ideas (other than RMA-city)? FWIW, the machine has been flawless up to this point.

If we really want to get into it, couldn't we lock out bios with a pass and prevent booting from all methods but the main HD?

I'm not sure I understand why there are two set of audio drivers? What do we lose when removing the Creative software?

Unfortunately this appears to be 150% an RMA issue. Looks almost like the issue Quag had on his first G73, except yours appears even worse.

Congrates, you are the 3rd case I've seen of that and it is RMA city. Try an external monitor output (HDMI or VGA), I bet you're able to see a good desktop so you can get your files if needed. Unless they figured out why since mine, they are going to replace it.

First Known Case...Hardware Failure per Asus

    Second Known Case... ?

    Third Known Case... ?

It's just software modulations imo. You'll lose EAX, Subwoofer and some equalizer and other software sound effects. Most of them aren't running when you first fire up your computer. I imagine there is an actual driver for the subwoofer since the Creative software is the only access to it.
