Duh, update on the two-finger scrolling. There's a setting for it already in the synaptics driver. You don't need the link I posted.

I uninstalled - and didn't lose subwoofer...

Still getting nice bass out of the woofer...

Or am I imagining it? It is vibrating, releasing sound mostly on low beats.

Yeah subwoofer remains also. Wasn't sure why some lost subwoofer earlier either.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse then click on the Device Settings tab. Then click on the "Settings" button and there are different options, including two-finger scrolling. Works great.

Did your battery performance settings get changed? Your laptop should be set on "Entertainment" or "Performance" to play games. They get laggy if not. I play HL2 on mine and it runs perfectly with everything maxed including AA. Very cool game.

If you are using Windows 7 power management, I believe balanced works. If you are using Power4Gear, the recommendation is Performance or Entertainment. The other two choices will cause games to get choppy.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that autologin is not a big deal for a computer that doesn't have a BIOS password. If you are not locking it down tight, the difference between auto login and entering the password every time is negligible.

Cool, then it's just the ability to adjust the subs dB then, not the sub itself.

Well, it didn't recognize my external monitor via HDMI, not sure about VGA as I didn't try that one. Checked out that video and it's a near match to mine, so I'm sure it's a return situation. I wish I didn't have to be without the machine for two weeks, that's going to suck.

Maybe I'll get into the Steam for Mac beta so I can at least play TF2 while it is gone.

want to have everyone's attention here. I had sent my laptop model G73HG-A1 to Asus for repair. But now almost 10 days passed, no news from them. Whenever I call they say no news from repair dept. I have asked them to give my refund they say they do not have policy to give refund.

so I am waiting for laptop replacement for forever. Is anyone on the same boat?? What you guys did ?? just wafting for forever???

I'll bite Mandrake, what's the link you found? Thanks.

If you've never used your HDMI before, the initial use can be touchy as I had an example of that and my HDMI was set up before the failure, the VGA should be fine.
If you are using Steam, it might not be so sure. I am sure due to only Asus drivers, 3 os installations and no steam.

If you want everyones attention then make your words stand out. :)

What was your problem for the RMA?

Question is - do they really take a month to replace laptop? Anyone who got the laptop replaced, any idea how much time did they take?

First of all they need laptops in stock to replace it with. They should be getting an order today. I am pretty sure that they replace all warranty claims within the first year, instead of fixing them.

My first one with an obvious hardware failure took 13days including 2 weekends. My second RMA on the replacement unit for my first RMA just arrived in Fremont and will likely take longer as the problem isn't as obvious (to them at least I'm sure).

I received my second G73 now. I had RMAed the unit from Newegg due to GPU corruption and freezes, and bought the Best Buy model.

This one had a blue vertical streak on the LCD. Didn't even bother to go further with testing and just returned it. Best Buy just refunded me on the spot.

Seriously. Two units with unique defects in a row. ASUS has some awful QA.

On the bright side, isn't the video card under warranty for 3 years?

Is the brightness handled by video card?? I am not sure. I thought my screen is defective?? even I am assuming G73JH model has very high brightness. but I felt it was dim so I returned. when I called Asus they say - your RMA is DOE as I requested for the replacement.

Brightness is strictly monitor. Also, did you mean to say DOA?

    This is from NCIX.com

    "Video Cards:
All ASUS VGA cards purchased after January 1st, 2001 will carry 3 year warranty services from purchase date. ASUS product warranty is based on the serial number printed. First 30 days limited warranty is through NCIX.com. The remainder of the 3 year warranty is provided directly by ASUS. For more details, please visit support.asus.com.

    Sound Cards:
All ASUS audio cards carry 3 year warranty services from purchase date. ASUS product warranty is based on the serial number printed. First 30 days limited warranty is through NCIX.com. The remainder of the 3 year warranty is provided directly by ASUS. For more details, please visit support.asus.com.

    ASUS LCD Monitors:
ASUS LCD monitors carry a 3 years limited warranty from purchase date. For details on DOA (dead on arrival), bright/dark dot warranty, please visit support.asus.com."

Most companies do this, but do not tend to advertise it as much as they should.

sorry DOA. But I do not understand how the laptop is DOA if it had dim brightness. they do not provide any more details on it. I think customer services do not know the status.

Well, there it is in internet black & white. However, I would have my doubts based on one thought, they may mean standalone cards (despite using the word All). When you go to the Asus site, it is possible our 5870m will fall under the Notebook warranty.

I would hope the 5870m falls under VGA warranty, but then it would have to be a clear cut VGA problem on year 3 day 1.

This would be an excellent question to get a nailed down answer from someone of authority at Asus. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Try other games. Still lagging up or having issues? Try a different driver. Still having issues? Call ASUS and get an RMA.

Not sure if you're aware, but this is a thread on a laptop. All the owners are posting, not just you. Sometimes multiple conversations are going at once. I was posting earlier about two-finger scrolling that someone asked about. I then clarified, and saw your "What? How? Please?" post, and assumed you wanted clarification. So I did so.

I don't understand why people have issues with the fact that everything isn't about just them and their problem. It's a simple thing to see that conversation had nothing to do with you, and could easily have been disregarded.

On a side note, I hope you fix whatever issues you're having with your G73. Just try and have some more patience for the rest of us, eh?

With this week's shipment we will be able to fill all orders received through at least March 23rd. There is another shipment due next week which should allow us to fill all back orders, and start shipping current orders for the first time since NEW YEAR'S EVE :)

I am getting temps in the high 40 degrees Celcius after 1 hour normal use (web surfing and using media player).

The loose keys are really starting to annoy me. (LCtrl in particular...)

Is anyone having this problem, or is just the way the keyboard is made?

    Hello everyone,

I've been following up this for a long time already but never get chance to reply any of these threats.
Last month I finally ordered G73JH-A2 from ExcaliberPC (from their eBay store). And I was very happy to have it in my hands, everything went smoothly up until this morning while I'm playing Dragon Age Origins
The setting for this game is max everything for the video option. The picture was captured this morning when I change the map (where the character rogue want to join the gray warden team). This weird strip lines and blinking occurred on my screen.
    * I did not push turbo button or overclock my cpu/gpu
**I did not do anything out of ordinary usage either :D and I did update driver for VGA to 10.3
***When I change the map, this weirdo screen is back to normal.
Anyone here know what's wrong with my lappy? Please see in the middle of this picture...long black lines look scary to me. Hope I don't have to RMA. :(

If your screen goes back to normal when you change the map, I'd say there's just a glitch on that map, with that driver (of course, I don't have the game or any experience with the driver, so I could be totally wrong). As long as those lines don't appear at any other time, I would say it's a software conflict.

Thanks Mark, it leads to the one I had before and is the one Mandrake got back to me on.

Unfortunately still, neither of my RMAs show up on it, serial or RMA#.

Mandrakes RMA didn't work, but serial did, how is yours working? Do you use RMA NUSAxxxxxxx?
