Buy one of these perhaps? They are easy to install. I don't have the N router but it has all the N settings.

    Cheers,

Edit: Just dug out a Dlink Dir-628 and got it working in 5 and 2.4 mode. Don't think is supports 300MB but got 130MB pretty consistently. Of course I only have the two antennas so 300MB may never work.

Impressive machine! I just took a 975 meg Photoshop file, and downsampled from 600 DPI to 300, and it took 28 seconds. Versus my POS at work which took anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes when I did it last year.

I've ordered my Asus G73Jh-A2 and hopefully it will come soon.
I've been reading alot about this laptop and most user suggest to reinstall Windows 7 because of the excessive amount of bloatware pre-installed.
My question is, if I do reinstall the OS, what kind of software would I want to re-install?
and any other things I should do upon getting the laptop?

Unfortunately, my G73 is doing this continuously now. I've begun the troubleshooting process...when I can get it to boot with the screen working. Man, I'm ticked!

I strongly suggest that you get the Intel 6200 instead of the 6300. The G73 only has 2 antennas as does the 6200.

I have a few questions and wanted to ask the board if they have any solutions. When I'm playing games (It's happening on numerous games, not just one specifically) the game starts out smooth but than after maybe an hour. My sound glitches as in it will repeat the last sound over and over then the framerate will become choppy. I have to exit and restart and the game goes back to normal. Its an easy fix but rather annoying. The more I play the quicker it repeats the issue. Another is the laptop will become really laggy also after about an hour of use or so. I'm not sure if it is related to the game issue at all but a simple restart and everything is back to normal, like I said it's just an annoying issue. Everything is still installed, added Ccleaner, bitdefender, steam, and firefox. That's pretty much it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks. Well I have been searching about the issue and realized that it was a problem on the 5000 series on the desktops too - was thinking it was a hardware issue only on notebooks. There are some solutions, some people were able to solve their problems with these solutions, some of them weren't. Just like you said it's just about luck, i can only hope that i am one of the lucky ones :). But i am pretty sure most of us will face the problem and hope ATi will find a solution soon.

not exactly understand what you mean by "can not play" or may be i miss that...

is there an error message when you try to play or the screen doesn't come up or something else? I think it's worth to try using another blu-ray software to test it out, like the winDVD provide by Asus.

Maybe you can try uninstall the power dvd completely, re-install and try some blu-ray other than the Avatar...

I don't think it matters. Works great on 5 or 2.4 and gets close to my router's 150MB max. I'll have to get a different router to test 300MB/450MB connectivity. Supposedly I'll need that third antenna to achieve full speed. Regardless, I'd enjoy trying.

    Cheers,

6200, can find em cheap from ProVantage. Get it straight from a retailer than some person you don't know... IMO. Anything wrong, can deal with ProVantage or can try dealing with that person... your word vs his blah blah, so much headache.

There is a problem with ATi 5000 series graphic cards, which makes the notebook freeze while playing a game or watching a video -Of course most of the notebooks do not have this problem, but there is a possibility.- There are some solutions but many people were not able to solve the problem with them, there is no precise solution. To get further information regarding this issue, you can google it as ATi Gray Screen of Dead etc.. ATi is trying to fix this issue, it also exists on desktop 5000 series.

You can read some reviews on bestbuy, newegg and other types of stores.

    Hey guys,

my A1 arrived back from asus and well I wish I would be happy. First off did they fix the issues. My A1 had the GSOD and dead pixels. The replaced the GPU and the LCD and yes they fixed it. The new GPU runs stable with 10.3 and all other catalyst version and the LCD seems at least fine.

So am I happy ... NO! I had the A1 for 2 days and it was therefore in perfect condition. The way they gave it back to me is redicilous. There are so many scraches and much more. The keyboard looks like a wave, looked at it from the side. It is not connected correctly and writing is difficult because everything is bending. The LCD was not mounted correctly and the frame sticks out. The keyboard backlight is also not working anymore.

I also have a question. Can you please check for me something. When you press on the plastic right under the touchpad button does it fell firm or does the from plastic with the LED lights for HDD bends outwards. If I punch the touchpad button or under it I can see a gap between the ruuber from the palm rest and the front blend plastic with the LCD. Sorry for my bad english .. I am german :D.

Anyway I am heart broken. A company would treats a 170dollar laptop like that does not deserve respect. This now only there fault. It even looks like food pieces at the edges of the touchpad.

It's unacceptable, you should not take it back in that situation. I am sad to hear that even in a country like Germany these types of things can happen. If it was a cheaper device, I would suggest you to throw it to their heads.

Well the things you can do is you can send it back to the service again and contact Asus Global regarding this issue. Dunno where else you can get in touch with. However, if the paper that they gave you for giving your product to the service does not include that your notebook had scratches on it when you gave it to them, you are right on this issue. At least this is the way it goes in Turkey as far as I know. So if it's been a little time since you got it, and if you have these types of ridiculous issues with the keyboard are not normal, just send it back and request a new one. They ll probably will not do that but you can try getting in touch with Asus Global or USA regarding this issue. I hope you can get a new laptop, sorry for my English too :D.

On the other hand the service issue may take long time to be solved but if I were you probably I would just send it back to the service. I know that it's not easy to wait for days or weeks after purchasing a brand new notebook. If you think that you can use it in these conditions, just use it.

    Hey emreowski

Thanks. Well the missing keyboard backlight and the condition of the keyboard itself is not acceptable and makes writing hard. I will not accept that like I might get used to scratches.

Btw. I am german but I study in the USA and my notebook was repaired in Indiana. Funny btw. on the bottom of my note were the person who supervised this RMA the field is left empty and not signed.

Can anyone test if there G73 also is bending out so much if you press the rubber surface under the touch pad button.
Also what LED display is in the G73-A1 with 1920x1080 normally?

Mine is not bending, mine feels firm most of the way around.

When I got my G73JH back, the LCD doesn't seem attached properly either. When I get a chance I am going to see if I can put it back together properly - the bezel seems out on it. I don't want to send it back since I have my last final today, I start work full time on Monday and my gf goes for surgery tomorrow, I will need something to keep me busy in the hospital, and I want to get my game on before work starts...

Sorry to hear about your keyboard and stuff - luckily for me it's just the LCD issue.

    I have another question :p.
If we test the notebook with Furmark and if it does not come with GSOD, does it mean it won't have it if we just don't overclock it or update the drivers etc. ?

If it does come with GSOD, how many days does it take to get it back from the service in USA approximately?
--Answering myself, 10-15 days I guess from the ppl RMA their products.

Bah I don't care now xD

    Thanks.

Well I guess I might get lucky for once. I told my retailer about the condition in which they send my A1 back and they talk to Asus. They might send me a replacement. It's really to bad because I like all the things they fixed. The new GPU runs like a charm and no GSOD even after 1h furmark test run with 10.3 or 10.4a or the stock 9.12 driver. The LCD is also fine. I noticed that they did not even closed the tray under the A1 correctly and there are stripes of lighter grey from where they bend to plastic to make it fit. Thanks for leting me know that the plastic normally does not bend that much. I though so from what I remembered when I first had it.

Just to bad I would really love to keep this A1 but the keyboard bending drives me mad. Well at least I am happy I bought mine at a good retailer. Still I would buy the A1 again since I believe I just got unlucky with the GPU and well the repair job is just well no comment on that ... just stupid to make their company more costs by damaging the new notebook during reassembly.

Happy to know that it'll be replaced. They had to do that but they could make you wait for 1-2 more weeks, it's good to know that they won't. :)

But I have a question, I am not familiar with Furmark. You are testing it by stability test right? Any suggestions about Furmark and what is your configuration on the program? I ll ask my friend to test it for me, it makes me wonder :).

And can Furmark burn my gpu, need to watch the heat :D.

You don't need to run Furmark for stability. Just run a game on it on high settings for a few hours. Or just run a 3DMark Vantage run on it.

But if you "must" run Furmark, just do 5 minutes on extreme burn.

    Thank you for your response.

Well he's a little bit busy these days and has no time to play a game for a few hours. Furmark is not a must ofc, I've just heard it and everywhere I search for GSOD I see a Furmark, that's y I asked :).

If you say 3dmark vantage would be better than Furmark, we ll try 3dmark. If there is no difference I think I will stick with Furmark.

I agree with ziddy. Everything that stresses the GPU will work and did for me. Furmark was just so small and free that many people used its stress test. Games hard not as easy to predicted.

I think Vantage and gaming is better. Cause that tests your GPU for speed, so you can tell if something else is going on. You will be able to compare your vantage scores etc... Same for games.

Gaming and Vantage should stress your GPU and it's cooling system enough. Go for Furmark if you want, but that only stresses your cooling system and doesn't tell you anything else. Gaming can tell you if you have artifacting issues, graphical flickering, or whatever.

Check out the ASUS bloatware guide and decide for yourself what you need or don't need.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html
You may want to uninstall the Creative software as this seems to cause conflicts with other software such as Steam and Windows Ease of Access Center. I personally didn't do a clean install. I just uninstalled what I didn't need and ran CCleaner. My machine has been stable and gaming for over one month.
    Game on. :D

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've been following this great threat for quite some time quietly, looking forward to ordering my G73JH-A1, struggling to spend the money thou, as we have to care for our 9 months old daughter. It's just so tempting!! Putting her to sleep in the evening and game the night away :D

As I live in the UK, I probably need to Import one from the US, as the asking price over here is preposterous. So I'm currently looking into that.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks to all you guys for the great amount of information you gathered so far about this sweet machine.

I spoke with Asus in regard to RMA and was told that when sending in the unit that it must be the same setup as when you purchased it. An example given was- if I had installed a i7-920 cpu I would need to replace it with an i7-720 before sending it in for RMA repairs. Based on that phone conversation I would assume you would need to send in both drives if you purchased an A1 or A2.

Im looking quite seriously into buying one of these wonderful machines and I was wondering if anyone could confirm the mouse that comes with it and if it would be left hand freindly. I heard Razer Abyssus but could not find a confirmation anywhere

So, the mouse is your deciding factor? ;)

They've shipped with a couple different brands/versions, so it's a toss-up what you might get. If you don't like it, just order one.

    Hey all,
I have been reading this forum since the very beginning, and on February 14th I placed my order for an A2 through XoticPC. I received my laptop on April 16th and it is a great laptop.
I recommended this laptop to a friend of mine, and he bought the X3 model from TigerDirect. He doesn't have any of the usual problems that are listed in this forum, but when I told him to test his GPU with FurMark, his temps started at about 75-80 degrees Celsius and within 5-8 minutes it went up to 112 degrees Celsius and the laptop instantly shut off. He is using stock drivers and nothing was blocking the vents. This seems like a bad sign to me as my laptop balances out at about 104 degrees at it's hottest when running furmark for a long time. Also, his room temp is about 21 degrees celsius.

I told him that he should probably RMA it, so he called TigerDirect and they sent him to ASUS, who weren't surprised by it shutting off from FurMark and asked him to check if it does that in anything else, so I told him to download the tropical demo from guru3d and he ran that for 20 minutes or more with max settings and it didn't shut off.

So, I'm wondering if this is something that he should be worried about and try to RMA it anyway, or will his latop be ok? He has tested FurMark 3 times, each time it shut down. Also he is running Furmark with Post FX on but not extreme burning mode, and he is running the latest version of it.

    Hi All,
My computer has finally shipped today from Excalibur PC (ordered it 3/15 will arrive on 5/5) . Been looking around on the forums and noticed that there is a lot uninstalling and updating to get this laptop to run optimally. Anyone know of a comprehensive posting that covers clean install, necessary drivers and updates, Regedit, etc?

I've been running this laptop since day one with most of the default install intact. I removed a couple of ASUS programs but it's pretty much stock. 204 bios, stock ATI drivers. Playing all sorts of RTS and adventure games, internet browsing. No office or any other productivity app. Everything has been working great.

I didn't see a reason to do a fresh install. I suppose it depends on whether you want to eek out every bit of performance. This thing is so fast on all my games. I am fine with it. I should probably test the camera to make sure it works but really can't imagine ever using it. I've had Macs for years and never used it beyond the initial install self-portrait if offers to take.

No matter what path you choose I hope enjoy your new G73.

    Cheers,

Has anyone tried the new ATI 10.4 drivers? I'd love to know if those of us who, like me, have been getting the GSOD on anything other than the 9.12 drivers are still getting them with the 10.4 ones.
