Taking the cover off was as far as I was willing to go ATM. :)
But... from what I saw it would seem that you could.
IMO wouldn't do it anytime soon because for the price of a new CPU you would kinda be scewing yerself. After the new wears off and if I just wanted to play I might think about it.

Thanks, BTY I ran the PC Wizard 2008 program and it identified PC2- 6400 Ram DDR2 800 (Hyundai) HYMP125S64CP8S6 for the main system memory. I think we got a good buy.

It seems like amazon now has a new version V1. its not indexed by google yet but it shows on shopping.msn when you google it.
its a level up the x1 version butlower than the A1 version. Its still missign what i need two hard drives....

it says 1-2 months to ship...?
anyways this just signals the that the a1 a2 versions are coming out soon.

The only turn off of the x1 is the low resolution.

Not sure about the "super easy" part, I think you need a bracket from ASUS which they do not include with the X1 model in the HDD bay...

I'd say the biggest turn off is the DDR2 RAM and the lack of bluetooth... Both rather disappointing.

It looks like the reseller version is the orange/black color scheme which greatly disappoints me. I really liked the silver/black/blue color scheme of the Best Buy G50Vt-X1. I wish ASUS would at least give the option to pick which color scheme we want; the loudness of the orange/black color scheme just doesn't do it for me even though the specs are great. If it used the same color scheme as the Best Buy model then I would buy it in a heartbeat but since it doesn't I'm left to ponder if I should get it.

Okay I have been watching and looking at the G50 A2 from Asus and was pleasantly surprised when I was looking last night and saw the G50vt A2. I bought it the specs smoke the X1 and the G50 A2 dropped in price with the G50vt A2 coming out.

    ASUS G50Vt-A2 Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz) Processor, 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Display, 4GB DDR2 Memory, 640GB (2 x 320GB 7200RPM) Hard Drive, Blu-Ray Disc Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS 512MB Graphics Card, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

It is a no brianer... BB has always had products "close" but no cigar to the real deal. When I get mine in I will set my resolution to the pathetic max resolution of the X1 and we can compare frame rates. For $300 savings at BB you loose Blu-Ray, High resolution screen, the full GS version of the video card 2x320 drives @ 72000 rpms, Asus waranty and customer support 24 hours a day, a cool asus backpack, a mouse and even Siberia Steelseries Gaming Headset...tryn to upgrade the x1 to the A1 or A2 will put you well over the price of the real thing and the picture shows a black cover.

I can't wait to load Gentoo Linux and fire up some WoW... i will leave windows on long enough to test I may dual boot i miss the good old virus ridden pc dayz.

how do I loose there... this isn't the only forum that mentions the video card has been crippled.

If someone has the X1 post the output of what your video card has and I will do the same when I get mine... nvidia-settings in Linux I am sure you just click in winderz... We will put that question to the end.

Even if the video card is the same. lets see I saw the bluRay drives for $350 somewhere for this model (I was looking at the A1 and was going to upgrade), Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 $339.00 on NewEgg while the P8400 is only $218.00 but it isn't like you can get your money back for the cheap proc and now for the hard drive the X1 is missing a drive to be exact a 320 gig drive @ 7200 rpm that is another 90 -110 using the eggs price we wont add the bag the mouse and the cool headsets... Asus is setting you up to be a pimped out btch with the A2 and the X1 makes you BB's enough said???

So 340(proc)+350(bluRay)+100(/dev/sdb - 2nd sata HD....)+80.00 (good guess for a hard drive tray. I don't need one so i am not looking)= $870.00 we are forgetting the things like Blutooth and that which would really throw the number up there... upgrade charges to bring an x1 up to an A2 would be ridiculous (Almost the cost of another X1 lol) plus you don't get the pimp gear which you sell on ebay to everyone that bought the x1 to hide their mistakes.

Try putting the full quote in I said you loose more than a video card but I think my point was made [...did you buy the X1...]

Tryn to capitalize on 1 possible mistake is ridiculous o'yeah the reason for the back to back post you can't cost effectively upgrade the monitor on the BB's x1 system. Which after reading a few posts the BB x1 monitor likes to take a dump which requires an RMA and no laptop for 2 weeks,

Hahutzy must work for BB

Yes, I quoted you on one particular thing because I was agreeing with you until you said what I quoted. That one particular quote was so baseless and flat out wrong that I stopped reading the rest of your post.

I wished I worked for BB, but unfortunately, I live in Canada (as I mentioned in my Marketplace thread) and don't even have the option to buy a G50VT-X1 right now.

I think there are target customers for the X1 BB version of the G50Vt, as well as for the higher-end A versions.

I ended up with this model, i didint know it had the lower res untill i got home and was going to return it, however im not sure the non BB version is worth the extra cash....mine has a 7200rpm drive and runs games well, and at least with newer games im not sure how well it would do at 1680x1050....i tested it using a external LCD to test games and found 1366 to be more playable with high detail.....+ its not orange.

at xoticpc you can remove the blu-ray drive which i personally wont be using, and i think is the only place that allows you to do that and the price would become $1582, then compared to the x2 you get another hardrive and an cpu upgrade for just about $65 if you count the shipping...

so volksdrvr where did u get ur laptop from?

honestly, if i was you.. i would get the A2 without the blu-ray drive... it will be cheaper and you would have a larger size harddrives...

the asus pricing doesnt really make any sense... most re-sellers charge the whole price of the added parts... for example if you want to upgrade the same cpu on the asus it would cost a lot mroe than on any other laptop... it would actually cost the same price of the upgraded cpu on newegg... cant understand why... its like saying dont upgrade anything....

so if u take an A1 and upgrade it to A2 it would be $500+ difference for the same laptop.. messedup .

Hi all of you friends, Look at this moment I was interest in buy a asus g50vt-a2 it looks to be one of the best notebook for a good price. But I have a little big question about it. Iam new in asus notebook the onlyone I have is the x83vm I bought it a week ago in BB and it is good but it have a nvidea 9600m gs with 1gb ddr3 video card, and in windows it report 2gb 1gb dedicated and 1gb shared. I want to know if the g50vt-a2 have that option? Can I share the memory with the video card or it only can use the 512mb dedicated that it came with?

The memory of the GPU is NOT the main bottleneck in graphical performance. Large GPU memories are related more to marketing and hype, than real performance. So don't worry too much about that.

Also, please do not cross-post; you have posted this question on three different threads. That is not allowed and also not necessary, people will answer the 1st time you ask. I have deleted your other two posts. Thank you.

its confirm by xoptic themselves after i emailed them. maybe u would like to ask xoptic again. I think its because they have to open up the labtop and apply the artic silver to the cpu. i'll be surprised if that doesn't void asus warranty.

ASUS warranty is voided indeed, but you are supported by the reseller's (in this case, XoticPC's) warranty instead. Which depending on the reseller may be quite good (it is good for all the resellers listed in the Info Booth).

Then again, I do not believe it is international, and you also may lose the accidental damage warranty. Coupled with the few degrees that the Arctic Silver will drop the temp, and with the fact that the G50 is pretty cool running in its stock configuration... I don't believe it's worth it.

I'm very close to buying a Newegg G50V.

Right now the G50VT-X1 & G50VT-X2 are the exact same price $1350.

I should buy the X2 right?

From what I can tell the differences:
    P8600 VS P8400
    320GB VS 200GB
    9800 GS VS 9700GT

Is the 9800GS and improvement over the 9700 GT?

I bought mine just yesterday from Best Buy and I must say it's running very well and smooth. However while I play GRID it seems to lag. I'm pretty sure it's not due to heat or system resources, but maybe 64bit Vista. I also noticed that 64bit Vista takes up at least 30% of memory once it boots. I've even reinstalled vista and have taken out much of the unnecessary preloaded software. In COD4 max settings it runs great, smooth and fast!

Does anyone else experience sort of a "memory leak" type situation with with particular notebook?

Oh, I thought you were compaing NewEgg.com's G50VT-X2 to BestBuy's G50VT-X1 because that's the more logical comparison.

    Anyways, 9800GS is a underclocked 9800GTS, so it's an improvement over 9700GT.

Most likely it is not a memory leak, it is the Vista SuperFetch (i.e., preloading likely-to-be-used programs into the memory). It is actually one of the real advantages that Vista has over XP. It is somewhat ironic that this actually seems to work to the disadvantage of Microsoft, since people don't know about it and assume that "oh noes Vista is eating my RAM" :)

It is of course possible that indeed Vista is eating your 30% RAM; that works out to more than 1GB, but it is possible depending on how many autostarting applications you have.

The sunday Bestbuy ad has this unit, (ASUS G50VT-X1), on sale for $1099.99. Your purchase is under price protection for 14 days, which is the return period. So you can go back to the store and get the difference plus 10% .

I doubt it's the unit, or it could possible well be another lemon. My guess it has something to do with 64 bit Vista.
