petterk do you know what the differences are between your UX32LN with the updated spec and the newer UX303LN?
-
-
QHD IPS touchscreen - reflective surface.
Space for half length mSATA card.
slightly heavier.
Cost more.
UX32LN
FHD Matte IPS screen
Lighter
Cheaper.
That is the main differences I've found. In my book most of the differences favours the ux32ln - I'd take the matte screen any day. -

Can you please post a photo of the keyboard? I wanna see how it differs from the german one... -
Which means he live somewhere in Scandinavia most likely.
So here you go!Attached Files:

Thank you very much & greetings germany to norway! :hi2:
What a pity - it's far away from the german layout: http://www.notebookcheck.com/fileadmin/Notebooks/Asus/UX32LN/tastatur.jpg
...then I'll have to wait for the UX303LN-R4141H... -

You could touch type and set it to the German layout electronically

just got this laptop and must say its awesome!(got the 500gb HDD version) but i got some quick questions that alot of googling hasnt been able to answer! really appreciate it if any of u can shed some light on these:
1) the newest intel integrated drivers wont install saying i need the drivers from the manufacturer, what's that about? are the asus ones tweaked and does it make a difference which ones i have?
2) if i keep the plug in most of the time and it charges to 100%, does Asus have a special mechanism in the hardware to ensure the battery isn't overcharged or overheated? my friends Samsung ultrabook has an option to stop charging at 80% as that's apparently the optimum level for the battery and it won't degenerate as quick over the years.
3)someone posted instructions on how to do a clean install on an ssd for this ultrabook, but how is that different from creating a recovery USB from within the OS (in control panel there's such an option) with all the necessary files? it says i need a 16gb USB to create a recovery folder for the future. Is this the same?
4) While gaming with the 840m, the geforce card maxed out at 90c, is that bad? i read its maximum safety limit is 100c according to its specs. So 90c is nothing to panic about, right?
thank you for any insight and info u can provide!!! -

2. Battery stops charging if battery level is within 95 to 99%.
3. Creating a recovery USB is a factory recovery method, and a clean install is just fresh install without any of the bloatware from the manufacturer.
4. 90C is high for 840M, and performance may be reduced (throttled) due to limited thermal capacity.Meditech likes this. -
thanks Kevin! Is the asus integrated driver tweaked and that's why we can't use the intel ones? ive read some people uninstalled the asus ones and then were able to install the intel ones. does it make any difference?
for the factory recovery method, it'll have all the drivers for the UX32LN built in & the Win 8.1 OEM key, correct? i didn't notice any bloatware on this laptop when i first loaded it up (only asus webstorage). -
1: You can still force install it. First extract the intel driver to some folder. Go to device manager -->intel HD graphics --> update driver --> choose search computer for driver -->let me choose from a driver on my computer --> have disk -->point to the folder with the new intel driver -->choose the intel HD driver it now should find. (I'm on Norwegian win 8.1, so wording might be different, but hope you got the point). The good thing is that after this you should be able to install new future drivers directly from intel with no issues.
4: That sounds too high for an UX32LN, my GT840M gets 82-83C while gaming or while running folding@home on both CPU and GPU. Maybe thermal paste is not applied evenly or something like that. -

I can also verify that everything works out of the box in Linux as of kernel version 3.15.10.
ALL Fn+keys work, but some need binding, like Fn+F8 (bound to display settings in cinnamon).
Using bumblebee 3.2.1-3 with nvidia-340.32-2. -
Though I wasn't able to find non-Asus chipset driver for it... -
I worked at night in a very silent environment yesterday, and noticed that the fans would power on rather frequently. Like every 5 min or so. Anyone else experiencing this? I wasn't gaming or watching video and the laptop didn't feel hot at all, which is why I found the frequent fan activity weird.
-
Were you guys ordering these from abroad able to get out of paying VAT? And were you subject to any duties upon import into the USA?
-
Wait, have people actually found a site willing to ship these internationally? I must have missed that, what site was willing, all the ones I found wouldn't ship outside their country.

Hi All
Now im also the proud owner of a UX32LN
But like Meditech, i also experience problems with Hibernate. The problem is when the computer needs to get out of sleep and put the computer in to hibernation after the default 180 minutes some times it stalls and just keep being turned on and never go in to hibernation. The strange thing is that it's not every time. I also tried changing the time plan to a couple of minutes so i can whats going on, then there is no issues either. Manual hibernation works as well.
Any other than me and Meditech experiencing this, and any ideas? -

Running linux-3.16 with the latest intel thermal daemon runs the laptop impressively quiet. I have not had problems with the fan spinning up.

Easier is to make small partition (or trample recovery partition for that) and unpack Intel USB 3.0 drivers there (or even simply put those on disk C - installer asks for drivers before editing partition table). One thing to remember is that Windows "preinstallation environment" is sort of stupid, so even if pointed at proper driver it says it can't find anything, so you must de-select "Hide incompatible drivers" (or something like this). Then it shows bunch of other devices and you should try selected one - see attached pic.
Come to think of it - you should go with separate partition - because after installation you have to install those drivers, and until you install them, no network and no pendrive are gonna work.
Before doing anything use Clonezilla to clone current environment so to have something to come back to.

As the fans shut off the temperature rises, there is not much passive cooling in a notebook.

Hey guys, I too am thinking about a UX32LN. Maybe the R4102H. I tried contacting the shop because the information on their site was somewhat lacking, but the answer was largely 'we don't know.' Do you know if that particular model ships with the sleeve and adapters? And to be sure, are all UX32LN screens the same?

I have the 500gb + 8gb SSD version with the intention of upgrading to a full SSD. Now, if i buy my own SSD and instlall it, do i get a normal SSD or a msata SSD for this laptop? Anything else i need to know when shopping for an SSD? I know it voids warranty to open the the back, but not too worried about that. Thanks!

Good SSD choices athat are affordable: Crucial MX100 (my favourite) and Samsung 840 EVO. -
..mm, definitely go for the mx100 drives. Improved in meaningful ways over the m500 drives - which still are good drives, frankly, over mostly anything below the Neutron and ForceGT drives. (..actually, they could both be better drives than Neutron drives for laptops, since they don't draw as much power.. and the controller.. by virtue of not being a sandforce controller, won't stall all that often on power failures..)
-
wanna mirror image my install & copy it like that....

No HDD can beat the thrilling performance of SSD.
-
I didnt do anything to the image as I dont use Windows.
But if I were to use Windows, I'd just download an iso from the internet of Windows 7 or 8.1 and install it to the new ssd like a clean install. The license should be inputed automatically via the bios so you dont have to do anything, if Im not mistaken. -
I just bought myself the UX32LN-R4076H (i7/HDD/Win8.1), and I'm liking it so far. I do however experience some problems with the touchpad. Sometimes the cursor will "freeze" for some time (while moving my finger), and I have to lift the finger again before it will move again.
I am not able to reproduce it every time, but it seems to happen after about 5 seconds of not using the touchpad. I have also noticed that the right button is somewhat more "sunken" than the left click button (maybe 1 mm). Should I be worried that this indicates a hardware fault, or is this some kind of "feature"?
Anybody else noticed something similar? -

Did you maybe hit a key on the keyboard when it happens?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It's best to create a set of stock recovery discs for best results.
-
if i look from the front the keyboard looks slightly deformed. the area around the comma, and the k key seem low, and the windows, and the alt keys seem higher. Is anyone else facing this problem. plus the paint around the screen is easily chipping of, and looking ugly.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You can try to apply some double-taped under to secure the keyboard better. -
Hey,
my backlight has stopped working with the function keys but it works in the bios section of booting up, so i know that it is not a hardware issue. since i have the latest bios, i cant seem to reflash it, and fix it -
As it seems that this won't be for sale in the UK, could someone with a German QWERTZ keyboard try setting it to English (UK) and seeing if the marked Z key outputs Y and so on?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will do that yes.

how do you do this, thanks for helping
