I wonder if they'll get any more before Christmas?
-
u snooze, u lose !!
hah, jk... looks like it's oos @ p1 as well and afaik, those were the only places who got the "early" shipments... just gotta wait and see, i guess... -
UnXpectedError Notebook Consultant
i knew that would happen with the sale they have going on today
-
I have mine en route, was shipped Wednesday and is currently at a Fedex building in Cali, should have it in time for Xmas, I knew I should have coughed up the cash for 2 day shipping.
-
i cant wait for mine to come
i got mine at laptopsinc well i preorderd like 3weeks ago but its been shipped 2days ago and should be here Friday tomarlo
ony bad thing have to wait till Christmas to use it hehe but at least its coming everywhere i looked said it wasn't gonna be here till jan 15th 2010
but in that video it looks like it plays games better than i thought it would
sure i have my asus g50vt-x5 and my gaming quad desktop for games but it be nice to game on something small and light and better battery life than my x5 when im at work.
also is it true that it can take up to 8gb of ram? that's what the website were i bought it says and it can even be configured on there for 8gb -
We need some good user opinion about this laptop. -
Yes, benchmarking feedback would be greatly appreciated.
-
No problem, I will try and run some benchmarks, let me know if you have any specific ones you want. I am coming from a T3400 w/ Intel 4500M (not the HD) so it will be interesting to see how they compare, from what I have read, it should be kinda interesting, since the Ion is way more capable than the 4500M but the N330 is no match for the T3400.

w00t, my black 1201n shipped out today !!
got mine off ebay, btw... -
just got mine today and so far it looks really nice
nice black glossy nice and thin very light nice keyboard first time im useing a chi style keyboard so far i love it and screen is very bright bright and clear. right now im just waiting for the widnows setup to get over with lol.
ony thing im worrying about is the power plug that plugs in the laptops its really small... you know the game boy powerplugs its that small... well a bit smaller. hopefully that wont be a problem later on.
but anyways looks like im gona love it.
i let you guys know how it performs. -
-
i was looking at the acer 1410 for a little while before i pulled the trigger on this 1201n, but those things were selling like hotcakes... even today, i don't know where i can source [a black] one besides retailers who's got premiums over the msrp, which is a joke...
looking back, i'm glad i "couldn't find a deal" on the 1410, since i got the 1201n for essentially the same price and it's more than perfect for my needs -
I impatiently await feedback from those lucky enough to have one of these. Gaming, tweaking and overclocking are my main points of interest. Don't be shy
!
-
Just seen the review done by the good people here and so far so good.
Sort of expected more performance from the ATOM 330 but maybe I expected to much. Still a great little system. -
From what I can tell, unless you run some pretty processor intesive tasks that will utilize dual core, the HP Mini 311 is an alternate option. Granted it looks like similarly equipped machines (i.e. RAM, HDD) they cost the same.
-
well so far this is a really nice small netbook/laptop lol
i just tested some games which i thought wouldn't play pass 5 to 10fps lol but they higher than that.
i tried call of duty world at war and was playing the zombie mode and i say it was getting like 20s or even low 30s ofcouse this is on all low but at native res 1366 i was suprized.
than i tried the last remnant which does take a bit i also didn't think it would run but it did pretty good with everything on low and native res but for more smoothness its 800x600.
than i tried defense grid this game killed my acer one with the single core atom/950gma was ony getting 5 to 10fps on that but this was really smooth at native res and mem textures.
than the last game i thought it never would even go on or just get 1fps is section 8... with everything on low and native res it was pretty playable with 800x600 it was way better.
only thing i don't like if you go under native res it has borders like it has a 9in screen... wonder if there's a way to make it run at fully full screen at lower than native?
also this is with all the bloatware and stock everything that it came with i didn't tweak anything so it can get better problee.
still need to try more games on it
but its a big step up from the acer one with the single core atom ya i know it has no atom but even going threw windows and multitasking is much better with the atom duel core even loading.
also i herd this also supports up to 8gb of ram lol problee overkill but nice to know i know im upgrading to 4gb ram soon as i can have to also change the windows to 64bit sense the one it comes with is 32bit not sure why they did that....
but its well worth the money to mei mainly got it for gaming when i don't feel like taking my big asus g50vt-x5 and it does that for me just fine
-
Thanks for that feedback! If you play any Battlefield 2, I'd like to know how well it fares with that. If not, no big deal.
As far as video scaling, I'm assuming its using the regular nVidia Control Panel. Under the control panel, there is a heading "Display" and under that "Change flat panel scaling". You should be able to select fixed aspect, do not scale, or just scale it to fit screen. -
no problem
ya i have battlefield 2 i see if i could install that and give it a shot tonight.
hmm when i try to change the scaling it keeps putting it back to use my display built in scaling.. even if i say do not scale even just pops it back on built in scaling. -
Oh yeah, that seems to be a quirk. Switch to a non-native resolution (i.e. 1024x768) then select the scaling option. It will remember it. Then switch back. For some reason at native it doesn't want to change.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
6 hour battery life 1201T gets official.
-
as much as i love amd/ati i still perfer the 1201n atom and 9400m on videos of the acer ferrari one it seems like it wasn't doing to well in games that it was playing as the 1201n.
about the battery life same thing said about the 1201n about 6 to even 8hour life but isint true lol.
still have to test the battery on it.
yep that fixed the scaleing issue htwingnut thanks -
I agree. The more I check out reviews and benches, for gaming, I think the 1201n is the best option for the time being. ION2 will most likely change all that, but who knows when we'll see those laptops, and will be with single core CPU's.
-
For know the 1201N seems like the best way to go if you want to do any gaming on a netbook. -
update tried battlefield 2 and it played it pretty well tho i thought it would do better but i guess bf2 uses alot of cpu more it does gpu.
but the fps was pretty playable it was around 20s with 1366x768 on mem settings which so far the sweet spot it did go down in the teens when alot was happening but still was playable. i tried lowest settings and it got better but not much i even tried highest settings and it did well but it went in the teens alot putting down the res didint really do anything so i kept it at native res.
but i still say it plays it good for a netbook
i also tried doom 3 which took the most for some reason lol i had to put it on lowest but still got kind of choppy what i don't get is call of duty warfare plays better so i guess the engine on doom 3 isint that great but it still was playable.
killing floor is playable on mem settings.
also tried oblivion and that plays pretty good it did get little slow fighting 3 people but was playable also running it with some mem settings on and even native 1366x768 res seems like res doesn't take a impact on performence on this netbook
oh and world of warcraft plays really well i was kind of suprized was around 20s and 30s with everything on high except shadow quality and player textures and had to turn view distance down but everything else is on the highest and also on native res.
but ya this netbook performs really well than i thought it would been playing with it for the pass 2 days sense i got it lol
battery life i say is very good i was playing call of duty 4 for about a hour and when i quit it still showed 2:30min than i watch some videos and left it idle and when it hit 10% i plugged it in i say you could get 3hours of gaming on it and problee close to 5hours if you not gaming.
i should be able to test the battery fully this week and see if it can get 3hours or more while fully gaming.
now someone needs to figure how to overclock this cpu lol so far i cant i tried setfsb and it said it doesn't support the chip set...
the gpu seems to be able to overclock over ntune but it made the gpu stuck at 350mhzs instead of 450mhzs over time what gpuz was telling me.
and not sure how well the cpu will overclock to sense it does run on the hot side..
after i was done playing wow the cpu/core1/core2 was high 60s/ and high 70s for teh 2 cores... and usely it stays around high 60s and low 70s even idle so im not sure if that's normal or what? -
Thanks for the update! This makes me reconsider the HP Mini 311. The CPU overclocks relatively well to 2.0GHz. From a gaming standpoint, that probably makes more sense. But I guess I'll get more info on the 1201N and CES announcements before making a decision.
-
though the atom 330 duel core i find helps a bit in games like in left 4 dead's 1 and 2 while fps wasn't that great when zombies was all over the place but that's the case with all ions netbooks.
but when there wasn't much going on i was getting mem to high 20s to low 30s fps with all settings on the highest except the texture on mem and with that muticore on with that muticore off it was most low 20s and going in teens when nothing was around so the duel core does help a bitalso running on 1280x720.
so it seems to be better than the hp 311 in gaming but ya the atom cpu is still the problem with theses kinda games cause i could turn all settings down to lowest and the fps still was the same when alot of zombies came but at least you could run with decent res and settings.
but maybe when someone could figure how to overclock this it could give couple more fps to smooth stuff out a bit
tho im kinda worrying about the temp after i was done on l4d2 for about 30min both cores was around 80s... not sure if temp is reading right sense im using everest but ya.. lol
or could be duel core in this small package causing a problem sense when i checked the temp on my acer one that even runs hot around 50s always and could get over 60 easy.
so maybe its normal.
ony thing i see getting the hp 311 over this is pretty much battery life sense i herd its a bit better than this sense its singlecore but other than that i say the asus 1201n for gaming and still could get good battery life.
and could upgrade to 8gb of ram lol i problee wont upgrade it that much but i problee gonna upgrade to 4gb so that should give a bit more performance.
can the hp 311 go to 4gb or 8gb? didn't read up on it much but i did herd it has a soldered stick... so problee not.
right now im re downloading hl2 on it now and see how it plays. -
just tried half life 2 pretty playable on max settings and native res
just when alot going on like sparks and blowing up red cans it can get on the slow side but still playable
going to replay the whole game and see how it performs threw it.
i think going to 4gb will speed it up mainly whens stuff blowing up sense i remember i had that problem with my old dell 9300 that was stock with 512mb and the 6800go and xp and had alot of slow downs and stopping while blowing stuff up till i upgraded it to 2gb and it went away
problee will upgrade the ram next month and might just take out the ram of my g50vt-x5 sense they use the same ram and test it in the 1201.
would ony give 3gb of ram sense 32bit is on it... but that extra 1gb should show a difference that way i could see if its worth to put 4gb of ram in it and windows...
other than that im happy with the performance it gives for such a small package hehe -
Many of the benches from the HP Mini 311 are using XP which cripples the ION to an ION LE. I'm sure the dual core helps though.
Regarding the 311, since it uses the Atom N270 and N280, it will only support 4GB max, because those chips only support 32 bit not 64 bit.
Regarding temperatures, I'm sure 80C is fine. If the 330 is like the Atom N270, it has an upper limit of like 125C, and in my Asus N10J didn't even use a heatsink! They're very efficient chips. I'm sure the 330 will run a bit hotter because of the dual cores, otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much.
The things that bothered me most with the Asus N10J were the screen resolution, screen size, and size of the keyboard. The HP Mini 311 and 1201N address those. I'm not 100% satisfied with the Atom still, but at 2.0GHz it gets the job done in most cases.
I'm hoping someone CAN get the 330 to overclock a decent amount, then I'll definitely opt for the 1201N. -
no luck with that
says error this utility is not for this platform...
-
-
yep i tried it before and few mins ago
but i was looking threw pages of the forum that its on and say someone did it with a Samsung n510 but they put n510 instead of 3651 so i figured i try 1201n=ion.ini and guess what?
it works!!! and right now im overclocking it so far at 1.750
im gona try more i give a update were i get it stable at.
finally could overclock this lol.. -
update so far got it to 1894mhzs!! i tried little over 1900 and it blue screened but on that hp forum it says try AMCP7A.ini on the end of the name which is 1201=AMCP7A.ini and it shows more info like chipset voltage ram voltage and cpu voltage pcie speed.
and voltage control which lets you change them to but not the chipset the cpu you can but its on 1.315 already and it wont let you go higher than than but it does let you under volt it oh and ram you could higher to.
so i might could get more but gona see how stable it is at this clock first
edit seems like 1850mhzs is stable anything over that it will blue screen but still not bad problee can do 1870 but 1894 wasn't stable as soon as i got into half life 2 it blue screened.
but im pretty happy that it gets to that cause i herd the 330 doesn't overclock as good as the single core but it does get closealso could be the ram sense that gets overclocked to so upgradeing to a fastest ram might help to get more out of it.
oh and also the temps seems pretty good now way better than before for some reason after i was done with half life 2 after about 15min they was ony in the 72max to 60s for the cores and they low 60s and low 50s while idle maybe the power plug was blocking the vent sense its right by it... before they was allways high 80s and 70s just idle. -
SWEEET! 1850 isn't a bad overclock. I'm sure you'll garner a few extra fps. Keep it going! Yay!
Yeah, unfortunately it all depends on the other components and how well they'll tolerate the FSB boost. In this case faster RAM may help. But the cooler temps concerns me. It's almost like it's being undervolted or something. -
im pretty sure it was just something blocking the vent like the ac adapter sense that's on the same side and when i had it there again it was climbing little over 70c again than i moved it and it went under in the 60s
also think standby doesn't like the overclock for some reason when i tried stanby it goes on a blank screen and all the leds just stay on and i had to force shut down.
could be just a conflict with oc tuner sense the laptop is rock stable playing hl2 and stress testing @1850 but when i restarted and oc tuner loaded and than it blue screen for no reason than it said oc tuner didn't like the overclock last time it loaded hehe
other than that having the cpu at 1850 and the gpu@500core it did speed up fps a bit like in hl2 it doesn't drop alot like it used to and doesn't lag really bad when you blow up stuff. -
Can you run 3DMARK06 overclocked to see how much more you get.
If this thing can crack 2000 I'm in.
Did you try overclocking the GPU?
Glad it's working out for you and keep us posted with updates.
And your welcome! -
-
congrats gordesky1 for the overclock!!
thats good news. can't wait to see benchmark results overclocked.
time to find faster memory. do they even make ddr2-1066 for laptops? -
thanks
gonna download and run 3dmark06 tonight and see what she can break
and i updated ya with the score.
hmm not sure if they make dd2 1066 for laptops tho from searching it doesn't look like ittho a good set of dd2 800 performance memory should help.
-
Just get good DDR2 800 Ram, something with low latency. -
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=12767942
that's with 1850mhzs and think 500core overclock on the gpu ion thats if its working sense overclocking it threw ntune says bad value than says it cant set the clock but it shows it at 500mhzs also says it in Everest.
for a netbook that score i say is pretty goodsense my dell 9300 laptop that had a 6800go scored ony a 1864 lol but had a intel 1.74p-m so that's a more powerfull cpu than the atom. the dell also games better but that's a big 17in laptop vs a 12.1in netbook hehe
there's ony 2 scores on orb so couldn't really compare much...
but im sure i could get a bit more out of that by tweaking
gona run a stock test to. -
That's pretty good!

Do temps get much higher when OCing the CPU and GPU? -
question for a new owner of the 1201N which I got on monday delivered from newegg:
I know the 1201N's memory is upgradable to 8gb. Is this easy to do? If so which memory do I get and how do I install it. Please advise.
Would this memory card work if I got 2 of them to total 4gb?
2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) or should I get the DDR2 800 (PC2 6400). Is 200pin correct also?
What memory card maker is the best?
Also can you overclock the 1201n and if so, how? Currently my 1201N is set to the Super Performance mode. -
so far the temps pretty much stayed the same
if it did go up i say its problee like 2 to 3c max.
got a bit more overclock out of it to in ntune you could change the memory timings so i loosen them and tried 1895 and so far Everest stress test passes before it would blue screen.
so it might have a bit more overclocking in her hehe.
slumpey ya those 2 memorys will work i would get the 800mhzs
and for makers i either would pick corsair mushkin or ocz Kingston is good to.
when i buy more ram i problee would pick ocz sense they seem like they overclock good when need to be.
and if you read back little you can see the 1201n is overclockable and ikas v posted a link about itand you just have to put 1201=ion.inf instead of the 3000 number because that's for the hp 311 and didn't work when i did that.
-
is it 200 pin for the memory
you mean this one:
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model OCZ2M8004GK - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...50001550 1052910525&name=200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM -
I'm sure you would be close to 1900 with windows xp installed and even higher with some fast 2x2 gig ram. is 2000 achievable? maybe so
all the xp drivers are available for download on asus if you wanna test with Xp -
I found IKASV's post regarding how to overclock:
http://myhpmini.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2445
my question is with instruction #4, it says download ion.ini. Where do I get this from. -
Another thing gordesky1 ,
can you test this video in hd 1080p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zvCUmeoHpw
make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers that support flash 10.1 beta 2. make sure you have the active x and plugin version of flash 10.1 and test in IE 8 and firefox please. I'm curious to see the % cpu utilisation while watching that video.
thanks -
