Under FF3.5 latest flash and drivers, I got about 30-35% CPU utilization, I only watched 1/2 the video (slow internet at work) occasionally seemed a little choppy, but definitely watchable even at full screen.
-
just tried that video and i get around the same as jakejm79 30 to 40% its little choppy like jake said but watchable at full screen even i watch the full video. oh for some reason ie 8 was smoother than firefox
also do you mean to watch it on the netbook screen or using the hdmi and watching it on a 1080p screen?
sense i tried it with the netbook screen but i can try it on my 1080p dlp later tonight
also with out that flash 10.1 beta it was pretty choppy but i guess that's normal sense the cpu was doing all the work.
also video is nice looking
oh about xp i really don't want to install that lol but im sure it would hit higher sense windows 7 eye candy but im gona turn aero off and and see what it can score than.
oh and slumpey326 yep that's the ram -
I was just wondering how it played with your netbook, but if you wanna test with your big screen go ahead. would it make any difference? I guess its the same thing -
should I get out of super performance mode in regards to the super hybrid engine, what mode should I be in.
what cpu frequency should I set it to..
Also do I auto run when windows start and auto apply when program starts -
it deepens on each cpu for overclocking some will overclock more than each other or overclock less.
i would try each 1 click than stress the cpu and try higher and do the same.
so far i got mine at 1904mhzs 159 cpu frequency before it would blue screen at this so the memory seems to be the problem at that point sense i loosen the timings so it does work -
Okay I think I got it working now when I upped the CPU, the mhzs would increase.
what about this:
Do I check off the option pertaining to Auto run when windows start and auto apply when program starts
should I get out of super performance mode in regards to the super hybrid engine, what mode should I be in. -
Is this the graphics Nvidia Driver that I need to download:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_195.62_whql.html
If so, do I need to uninstall the driver that is currently on my 1201n and which one exactly.
When I go into Device Manager and under Display Adapters I see Nvidia Ion. When I click on properties I see driver date 11/20/09, version 8.17.11.9562. Is this correct.
Sorry for all the questions but you seem to be my helper and I really appreciate it. -
So I have a couple of questions:
1. I assume when I OC it locks the highest multiplier and disables speedstep. So basically I would only want to run the OC program when I need it and not at startup otherwise it will cost me battery life. Is there anyway to change the FSB but allow the multipliers to change.
2. How do I OC the Gfx card, I know I need to use Nvidia System Tools, but I can't find it, I have installed the latest drivers do I need to download something else. -
i would uncheck the auto run till you get a stable overclock cause if you get a unstable overclock and when you boot up you keep geting blue screens...
about the superperformence mode i kept mine in that.
and for the drivers ya 11/20/09 is the new and what im useing.
and no problem about the questions
and jakejm79 you need to install this http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html
ya im not sure how to make it so the cpu will down clock but i check a few things -
thanks gordesky1, any other easy tweaks that I should do to the 1201n
-
Thanks I got it all running, have it stable at 2050 for the CPU and 525 for the GPU, but it hasn't made much difference in the games I have benched it on.
-
jakejm79 what program did you use to get the GPU at 525, NVIDIA nTune? if so, what did you adjust on it exactly.
Did you use the program that gordesky1 recommended to get the cpu to 2050, what cpu frequency did you increase it to. -
hmm wow that's a nice overclock did you mess with the timings? to get it to that or?
so far got mine 1925mhzs and still going up that's because i mess with the timings.
ya it wont make a very big difference in most games tho i did seen a increase in all of them maybe around 3 to 5fps more avg fps and about 2 or 3 min fps like hl2 before fps got really low always like 8fps to 10fps now it doesn't hit that often more like 12 to 15fps now for the min and avg is around 20s and up i even saw 60 to 70fps in places.
for the gpu overclocking you pretty much wont see much when overclocking that sense the main bottleneck is the cpu still but i got mine to 500 core for now.
glad everything is running -
gordesky, what do you mean by timings exactly? Is this on the OCTuner program, some other software?
Do you use cpu-z at all, does that just display your netbook settings, i.e. cpu and gpu? -
its for the memory if you download cpuz and go to memory and you see numbers which are called timings and if you lower them you get a bit more performance in bench marks from what i herd but they don't overclock great so you have to higher the values like i had to do to get over 1900mhzs. sense when you overclock your cpu the ram gets overclock to.
you could change those values in ntune that nvida program i linked. -
what do I do to get my gpu to around 500 core. can you post basic instructions to do this. I figured out the cpu increase with the OCTuner program by increasing the cpu frequency, just still lost with gpu modifcation.
I cant figure out what my gpu is at now -
ntune does that to just install that click on the icon peroformence than when it starts up under peroformence click device settings than go to gpu and you could change it
-
With ASRock OC I set the FSB to 166 (I could get it up to 175 but it was a little unstable). -
to get it at 2050 you just up the fsb and thats it? or did you mess with timings?
max i could do is around 1920 stable anything higher i get a blue screen. -
Is there dedicated GPU memory, or does it share system RAM? With my N10J there was dedicated GPU RAM that made the most difference out of everything. Bumping up the CPU helped decently, the GPU didn't help much at all, but the GPU mem is what improved FPS by 20-25%.
-
Any of you who ordered from Newegg and received your 1201N, did your battery come with scuff marks on it? Just wondering if I'm the only one.
Thanks... -
what is fsb, sorry just alittle confused with verbage
-
from the tests seen on myhpmini forum on the mini 311, there is a little or no advantage in overclocking the gpu. The cpu is not powerful enough to push it 100%. they are actually getting better # with the gpu stock and overclock cpu.
edit:
its funny that a zotac n330 ion overclocked to 2040 mhz gets less than the asus 1201n overclocked to 1850mhz in 3dmark06 : 1633 vs 1734
http://myhpmini.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2988 -
Here's the benchmarking I did:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=355063 -
did you touch gpu fan settings at all
Regarding OCTuner, was the only thing you touched increasing the CPU frequency, that is the only setting I see. The only other section I see is System Health, anything adjusted there.
I downloaded the OCTuner from the link in the website from an earlier thread but should I have done this one:
http://www.asrock.com/feature/OCTuner/download.asp?Model=A330GC -
I tired setting cpu frequency in OC to 160 but got the blue screen. Am I doing something wrong. -
sorry for all the questions, but how much memory can you put into the 1201N. I want to increase it from its stock 2gb, can I put in 4gb (i.e. 2x2gb cards). I am running the stock windows 7 32 bit that it came with.
-
it can take up to 8gb. and ya you could put 2x2gbs in it but to take full advantage of anything over 3gb you gona need to get 64bit 7 on there.
also you gona need to higher the memory timings in ntune for it to overclock pass 160 sense mine blue screened at that to before i mess with the timings.
i did the core to 530 and the memory to 850 and the processor to 1190 but pretty much useless it seems.
also remember each cpu will not overclock the same.
like mine will blue screen anything over 162fsb 1930mhzs but jakes says that his is at 2050mhzs. but not sure if he just upped the fsb or mess with the timings which i had to get over 160fsb. even if im stuck at 1930 im still happy with that
@htwingnut yep it has dedicated video memory plus 575 shared memory and system video memory 64mb total 895 from what it says in the adapter properties.
by the way does anyone cpu down clock in power saveing mode or anything? cause even when i dont overclock the cpu always stays 1600 1633. but not sure if the 1201n down clocks cause i never saw mine do it -
And what about it's memory configuration, is it coming with 1x2Gb or 2x1Gb sodimm by default?
-
it has 2x1bs in it

I SUMMED UP ALL THE QUESTIONS I STILL HAVE IN ONE POST, PLEASE BE NICE
Regarding Nvidia Ntune:
"also you gona need to higher the memory timings in ntune for it to overclock pass 160 sense mine blue screened at that to before i mess with the timings."
Where can I find this exactly in ntune and which ones should I increase.
The only thing I increased so far in Ntune is GPU Core to around 500 from default of 450. I will increase the processor in this section also later today to above 1100. I still need help with above question.
Regarding OCTuner:
I downloaded the OCTuner from the link in the website from an earlier post in this thread but should I have done this one below. It appears to be for Atom 330:
http://www.asrock.com/feature/OCTune...p?Model=A330GC
The only thing I increased in OCTuner was the CPU Frequency, correct? For example from default 133 to say 145 which would overclock to over 1700. Should anything else be done in OCTuner.
Regarding Memory Upgrade:
I am putting 2gb in each slot later today for a total of 4gb of memory.
After I put in the memory, is there any special step that I need to do before windows7 loads up. Do I need to push F2 (BIOS) and go to memory and click save (I believe F10) or will the netbook automatically recognize the new memory increase.
Upgrade to Windows 7 64bit:
I have a windows 7 64bit dvd but of course dont have an external dvd drive for the 1201n. If I copy all the files from the dvd to a usb drive, how do I get the 1201n to recognize it and load it up properly so everything installs successfully.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
OK after a little more playing here is what I have come up with:
3DMark06, Fresh install of W7 HP, CPU overclocked to 2GHZ (166 FSB), 3GB RAM, Gfx overclocked to 497MHZ.
Stock (1.6GHZ & 450MHZ) = 1542
Both (2GHZ & 497MHZ) = 1862
CPU ( 2GHZ & 450MHZ) = 1810
Gfx (1.6GHZ & 497MHZ) = 1574
So it seems like overclocking the GPU doesn't help much since the bottleneck is still the atom processor, but overclocking that makes a huge difference. I haven't played with any memory timings, maybe I will over the holidays. Also I could get it to run at 2.1GHZ (175 FSB) but it was a little unstable, tho maybe because of the memory I have the stock 1GB in there (DDR2 533 I believe) and then the 2GB is DDR2 667.
Interestingly enough when running the timedemo on Unreal Gold at 1.6GHZ I would get a solid 60FPS, at 2GHZ I get a solid 48FPS but I believe that is an error and also it's a poor example since it doesn't support multithread/core CPUs.
Now the only thing I have to figure out is if when ASRock OC if it locks the multiplier at 12x or if it only adjusts the FSB, therefore allowing Speedstep to still work, albeit at a higher stepping speeds since the FSB is higher. Does anyone know of a program that works with the atom that will actually display the current clock speed (I believe CPUZ just displays the max value). I know RMClock will show what the current speedstep is but that doesn't work with the atom. -
that is still nice with the numbers, how did you get up to 166 FSB, I blue screen when I tried even 160. can you tell me what I change exactly to get it up that high. Also I am putting more memory in the netbook later today, even though win7 32 bit only takes up to 3gb, can I put 2x2gb memory cards in the netbook without screwing it up.
-
hmm so far the max i could get is 1900mhzs stable and i had to mess with my memory timing to get that if i didn't i get blue screens as soon as i hit 160fsb
either you cpu is a really good overclocker or your memory is
i think in my case its the memory sense i have to mess with the timings to get higher.
hmm i just seen that you said you have the stock 1gb in there which is ddr2 533 on the 1201n stock should be 800mhzs for the 2x1gbs
ya slumpey326 it wont screw it up just would be 3gb. -
thanks gordesky1 for the confirm with the memory!!
can you and/or jakejm79 please assist with my other questions when you get a chance. It would be greatly appreciated. -
for the memory its in the same place were you overclock your gpu the tab called memory and when you go in that you see numbers and thats the timings
just higher the 2 6s sense you cant higher the one that cant go over 6. and higher the 18 24. than you should beable to get to 160 or 161. tho my max is 161 with out a blue screen anything higher it will blue screen.. -
thanks again gordesky for all the assistance.
my memory just arrived, once I install it do I need to do anything when I turn on the netbook.
Every other computer that installed memory upgrade to automatically recognized the change, but I heard asus may be different. -
Maybe I will try with the just the stock memory back in and see if I can overclock the same. Actually it was runable up to 175 FSB, but then after a while it would freeze, not sure if it was temp related or not.
-
jake, I was able to install the memory successfully. I know have 3.2 out of 4gb.
Now if I can only figure out the overclock thing. Also I noticed when I increase the frequency in OCTuner, the fan gets louder. Is that normal, should I touch a setting to quiet it down. -

slumpey when you go into nvidia control panel than in device settings were the gpu tab is at.
the tabs that's there is cpu motherboard than memory than gpu. the memory one is it. its the tab before the gpu tab. -
yeah I figure that out now, Thanks. I downloaded the newest control panel like jake noted, not the one that was linked here.
I just cant figure out which specifc timings to tweak because as I noted above, there is like 12 different ones. Can you be a little more precise please. -
the ones i did was trcd and trp and trc and tras. i didn't say what i put because you have difference ram now and its gona be way different than what i put.
just higher them some.
the max stable i got even messing with timings is still 1900mhzs not stable any higher than that. im still happy at that better that than no overclock
i pretty much left mine at stock for now and accepted the 1900 for now sense i got tired every time i have to set them again after i restart or when it crashs lol
