ya jake even with OC utility shut down when i put it to sleep the power light stays on and the battery light stays on and the system will stay on and have to hard boot it..

unless i put the fsb back on 133 stock. than it goes right into stanby with no problems.

Weird, mine works perfectly, I actually tried it repeatedly when testing my OC from resume standby task.

Yes I did a fresh install of W7 Home Prem 32 bit using the guide I linked to earlier.

ohh ok din't know RMclock wasn't compatible. So I guess intel blocked the voltage and you can't do nothing about it. :(

    thanks for the info

Yeah it kinda sucks, I'm sure going from the fixed voltage and multiplier to a dynamic multiplier and undervolting would help battery life, it did on my Celeron to T3400 swap by about 30 mins

Check this out, couldnt sleep last night so I finally decided to installed 64bit on the netbook.

I installed a fresh copy of windows 7 64bit home premium ( Retail addition) and then tried the serial that came with the 1201n to activate it but it didnt work. Guess it only works with the Home Edition that came preinstalled with the netbook.

Luckily, I had windows 7 64bit ultimate addition with a serial still ready to be used so now the ultimate edition is installed on my 1201n. :)

I havent installed all the drivers yet from asus's website, just the wireless ones and the nvidia drivers but the 1201n is running so much faster now. Guess asus dumped alot of crapware that was preinstalled when you first get the netbook.

Got a quick question, I have 4gb of memory installed on the 1201n yet it is only showing 3.25 being used when I click on the system screen in the control panel. Since I have windows 7 64bit installed now, shouldnt it being using all of the 4gb of memory since the cap for memory with 64bit installed is much higher.

@ slumpey326: Did you check how much memory is shared with the GPU?

no, how do it do that. what should I look for. Should I change something to get the max 4gb memory being used. I put (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Memory in it.

you will never get the full 4gb since the ion gpu takes minimum 256mb ram.

you can download cpu-z tool and you can check there.

maybe the gpu is taking more who knows.

downloaded cpu-z, went to the graphics tab and it says memory size 256 mbytes

is there anywhere I can find out where the missing mbytes went to.

jake/gordesky can either of you assist here.

should I take the memory out and put it back again and maybe it will recognize all of the 4gb. Remember I installed the 4gb previously when I had win7 32bit on the netbook.

hmm forgot about the shared memory so pretty much we cant get the full 4gb of memory to use.

to check this go to display screen resolution than go to advanced settings and it should pop up adapter information it should say how much shared memory its taking..

today i swap my g50vt-x5 memory with the 1201n memory just to see how the 1201n acts with more memory and max it will go is 3.3gbs which is cause of 32bit i even tried a known working crack that you can make 32bit windows see 4gb memory but doesn't work on this machine just keeps showing 3.3gbs in task manager.

but in adapter information it shows this for me

total available graphics memory 1663mbs was 800 something with ony 2gb of ram

    dedicated 256mb same normal

system video memory 64mb same normal

shared system memory 1343 again more than when i had 2gb of memory.

so it seems like the ion takes more shared memory when you add memory..

did you enter bios yet after you installed the memory? i had to that because it wasn't seeing the memory i added was ony showing 2gb of ram so i went in bios than saved it than exit and it worked.

if it still shows 3.3gbs than that just how the 1201n manages memory the ion eats it up lol

like if we ever try to upgrade 8gb of memory we problee would see 6 or 7gb of it. sense the ion problee would take more but not sure how far it eats it up.

i had a desktop like this it showed 4gb of ram but it never showed 4gb in task manager because something was taking it and sharing it..

mine shows in bios its 4gb and than 4gb-3.25uable in system properties and in task so it see it but cant use it fully sense of the ion that uses memory.

cause before with the 2gb of ram in system properties it showed 2gb than 1.6 or 1.7 usable.

mine shows that also in system properties, but I am using windows 7 64bit now.

Should I try taking out the memory and putting 2gb in at a time or you think it is not worth it being the max I will get is 3.25 even running win7 64bit

    Need Help with 3 Things:

    1) How do I get the asus docking item back. I dont see it on the download page or maybe it is called something else.

    2) What is the default utility for the webcam. How do I download it.

    3) PROBLEM: I cant install kbfilter utility (I believe this is for FN functions), do I need to do something else first.

    4) PROBLEM: Asus LiveUpdate. Installed but doesnt seem to want to open. Maybe only accessible with 32bit?

you are using 4gb of ram but the graphics uses shard system memory so that's why you ony see 3.25 because it takes shared system memory and use it when it needs it..

when you go to adapter info what does it show the same as mine?

even with 64bit on systems that uses shared video memory its gonna take out of the system ram memory.

i didn't think of it till i installed 4gb of ram today and looked at my adapter properties and saw the ion usesing more memory sense i added the extra 2gb of ram.

its doing the same as my desktop did which also had 64bit.

like if you add 8gb its gona see it but you wont get to use all that problee 7gb out of 8gb sense the ion gona share the memory.

this is what I see in advanced settings under screen resolution with 4gb ram installed:

    total available graphics memory 1663mbs

    dedicated 256mb

    system video memory 64mb

    shared system memory 1343

slumpey326: read this.check also the comments at the bottom. http://www.ookii.org/showpost.aspx?post=119

maybe you'll understand better why even with 64 bit it doesn't see the full first 4 gig of ram.

some bios are able to remap to see the full 4gig some don't.

remember that you will never see the full 4gig no matter what since 256mb is dedicated to the 9400m video card. so your at 3.75gb right off the bat. I'm sure the rest is either taking by the video card, hardware on the motherboard.

I guess if you want to see more than 4gig you have to put a 4gb ram module + another module of your choice.

edit: I was reading about the zotac ion n330 and aparently the manufacturer says max memory support is 4gig , some say 8gig. some say its limited to 3.5 gig due to the memory controler not seeing more. who knows.maybe thats why you only see 3.25gb.

Slumpey326 buy a 4 gig module from newegg and test it. If it doesn't work they will refund you lol. At least you will know if it works or not haha. I'm kidding obviously, but if you have access to a 4gig module would be nice to test.

    yep what ferrarista said.

ya that's what i also see under advance what its doing is sharing the system ram for more video ram when it needs.

like before we ony had about 800 something mbs shared video memory with 2gb of ram but sense we added another 2gb the ion took more of it...

sorry slumpey i really don't know any of those questions because i ony have 32bit.

was thinking of just staying with 32bit sense 4gb of ram gonna be same for both of them.

tho if i upgrade to any more than 4gb than i will but the prices have to go down on 8gb before i buy.. lol

did you check on the cd that came with it? i know they dont have cdrom but do you have another computer with a cdrom? maybe there drivers and all the stuff on there.

cause usely 32bit drivers should work on 64bit.

i just looked on asus and ya i cant find anything that's for the dock or webcam...

But I think these might only be for 32bit?

    1. EEE Docking is what you want, looks like 3.3 is the newest version

    2. ECam I assume, tho I couldn't find one that looked like the original version, it didn't offer any real functionality for me anyway.

    3. Hotkeyservice 1.15 I think is the newest one there

    4. I have no idea I have used it on 32 bit only, and even then it was unstable.

Well unless you plan on just capturing a movie/still photo from the webcam you don't need a program. I only use mine for IM chatting (Trillian) or Skype or making the occasional video for which I use windows movie maker to capture it directly.

Correct W7 (actually I think all windows from like XP SP2 up) includes their own BT software. So you shouldn't need to download a driver, I haven't.

    Thanks, for the driver location!

Have you noticed any improvement in game performance with the 4gb? I'm pretty happy with how quickly mine runs normal everyday tasks; but, I would like to squeeze a few more fps out of it in games. I was planning to upgrade to the 4gb next month, so long as it's worth it. Also, nVidia states that the ION chipset can handle DDR3 1066, can anyone confirm this?

the chipset can, the slots cannot. if it came equipped with DDR2, it will remain DDR2. DDR3 and DDR2 have different physical slots, and are not interchangeable.

Ok, that makes sense. The info on nVidia's website just had me a bit confused.

I'd still like to hear from someone who has upgraded to 4gb already, particularly concerning any improvements to the 1201N's ability to run games.

if anyone else 4gb worth of memory on the 1201n and is running win7 64 bit, how much memory does it show as actually being usable. With win7 64 bit installed and 4gb of memory put in, mine says 3.25 and I know you lose some to the gpu, but then I thought it would say maybe around 3.75. Just wondering.

lol?? what did you change in your config? Do you still have 2GB ram? And how did you get it to 2.0 Ghz?
I tried to get to 1.8 but then I get BSOD (with octuner)

EDIT: will this fit into the 1201n: http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/4GB-2x-2GB-...erzubehör_Arbeitsspeicher?hash=item518d06502b ??

    and this one: http://www.pixmania.be/be/nl/3729307/art/veritech/pc2-5300-2-gb-ddr2-667-la.html

you need 200 pin, I got this (from newegg.com) and put it in mine along with win7 64bit:

    OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model OCZ2M8004GK

Uloga what fps you getting like min avg and max?

right now im playing cod4 on the apartment level with alot of gun firing going on and my fps is around min it can get pretty low 12 to 13fps but avg is around 19 to 20s and max fps it can get up to 50fps.

this is also pretty much on all max settings except i have shadows off sense it seems to take alot on the ion. not bad for a netbook :)

oh also overclocking pretty much depends on cpu and what ram you have.

im also stuck at around 1.8 to 1.9 i just keep mine at 1.8 too 1.85 now sense i got tried of keep going to ntune and changing the memory timings each time the system crashs or each time i restart lol.. but ya it seems like jake has a lucky one that can get to 2ghzs could also be his ram too helping.

sense right now im running my asus g50vt-x5 ram cause i wanted to try 4gb well 3.25gb and when i try too even 157fsb which i think that's 1.88 it will blue screen lol.

the stock 2gb of ram went to 1.9ghzs stable. so it seems like ram is my problem from getting to 2ghzs.

but im not really worrying about that sense it wont make much of difference with 100mhzs to 150mhzs.

but it did make a bit of difference from 1.6 too 1.8.-.1.9

but ya so far im more than happy with this little thing :)

i haven't touch or bring my g50vt-x5 with me to work sense i got this thing lol

oh and im still using the stock windows that came with it with the bloatware and stuff so im sure if i could get some processes down and get rid of the junk thats installed i might gain more fps.

oh and i also tried company of heros on this and i didn't even expect it will be playable but it was with native res and everything on low but im sure it can take a bit more settings up.

but ya fps does get a bit low but on a rts low fps is more playable than its on a fps.

Is there anyway you can change how much the Super Hybrid Engine overclocks:

I saw this in the 1101 thread on asus.com's forum:

    Overclock SPE Procedure in BIOS:
In BIOS->SETUP UTILITY->Advanced, you can see an item, ”SHE Overclock Value ”.
This item controls CPU overclock performance at Super Performance Mode in system. If you adjust the value to 15%, that means CPU maximum frequency can reach to 1.15 times as high as its standard frequency, at Super Performance Mode in system. The maximum Value you can set to is 30%. If it runs over the maximum set, BIOS will decrease to its default value 10% automatically after reboot. The function can keep system steady running.

does anyone know where to turn the scrolling option ON for the touch pad in the mouse settings menu in ctrl panel. I have a mouse also, but if I want to use the touchpad it looks like the scrolling is lousy. I tried it at best buy also on another asus Eee Pc model and thought the scrolling was lousy also. Maybe a setting was not set correctly in the mouse menu.
