LOL..that wouldn't be a pretty sight.![]()

Yeah, I'm antsy for it, too. I've been tempted by the OQO but the price and small keyboard are dissuasive.
Either the Eee or the Nanobook will work better for me. Whichever one comes out first and keeps their price point (or very close to it). -
The OQO is really nice, and the keyboard isn't that small (its still pretty usable). For me, its the $1800 price tag that kills it.
-
don't give up on vista yet people: http://www.vlite.net/
-
I dun have vista at all, so why bother
...
-
What exactly is the purpose of trying to run Vista on the Eee PC anyhow? It doesn't seem to me like there's a whole lot of benefit there.
-
Most people are going to be using it for word processing (a bit), email and web browsing. I don't see how XP or Vista would be better for that than a cut-down Linux distro.
-
I need CS1.6, that's y i need XP
-
I'm sure that this could run a lot of the older games, like Need For Speed High Stakes (1999) and Porsche Unleashed (2000), which were not even considered that graphically intensive during their time. Which is why XP helps. You would almost definitely need the largest ssd one available though.
-
Pretty sure you can install CS 1.6 on Linux. I found this link http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO%20Steam
that would be sweet -
What graphic card does the Eee have?
-
It'll have a GMA 900 I beleive.
-
-
You can always just put windows xp on it... or dual boot possibly.
-
-
found this topic that rahul started: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=41709
-
Hahaha, GMA900 isn't really that bad. I have been running on various integrated and (very) low life dedicated graphics cards over the years, and for a while in there, GMA900 was the most powerful thing I had. It was decent, running anything 2 years old with decent settings completely smooth. Once I got into the 2005-06 era of games though, it became pretty difficult to do that.
-
how about the 10" model ? it's going to be also with GMA900?
-
It looks to me that both models will be essentially the same hardware wise except the 10" model will have options for bigger flash storage than the 7".
-
the 10" ver. with this: http://home.businesswire.com/portal...Lang=en&div=-1993463876&newsId=20070624005046
can be nice -
very nice. Somebody who can give a good picture of the keyboard? (I hope that the right shift key is large enough and not located too close to the arrow keys, for this leads to too many misprints.)
-
Thanks for the picture! As I thought, the right shift key is "no good". Hope it will be better on the model with a 10 inches screen!
-
I need to know when I can get it and I just wish they could have put a bigger screen in there, I hate that black border around it, forget about the webcam and speakers, I don't care about those. I suppose it was to cut down on cost eh?
Wow, personally, I've never used the right shift key my whole life, I keep forgetting it even exists. -
I use it for the ?":+_() the most. lol
-
I wonder if it'll accept sdhc cards... Mmm..
Asus should look at trying to develop future versions of this that'll have a modular bay.. -
it doesn't have room for an optical bay, let alone a modular one...
Unless you were being sarcastic or something, because then I am too... -
We dun think it has a standard 2.5" HDD space for it too...
-
They would be too large, yes.
-
-_-; -
By adding modular bays, larger drives, etc. they'd just be getting right back to it being a notebook. It's not meant to be a notebook replacement. It's meant to fill a niche between a PDA and a notebook, and the specs so far seem to be very good for just that.
-
-
I believe there is not a single notebook on the market with a screen smaller than a 10" that has an optical drive. Some 12" notebooks don't even have an optical drive. It makes them slimmer, lighter, and cheaper.
-
See, listen to the nice moderator:tongue:
-
Jason, do you think the 10 inches screen Asus will have a keyboard with a right shift key that is a bit larger and better located than the right shift key on the 7 inches screen Asus? (By "better located" a mean that it is more separated from the arrow keys.)
-
Does this answer ur question? -
Thanks, yes it does! IMO, this is a better design of the keyboard with regard to the right shift key. It would have better still if the arrow keys were gathered below (as on the Vaio TZ), so that they were more separated from the shift key. But the pictured solution is not bad. BTW, it's similar to the keyboard of HP 510 in this respect.
-
I wish my keyboard had that configuration (actually, i prefer the keys a bit lower as well).
-
omg this thing is so sick! im totaly getting one for taking to class. its purfect!!! release dates in august?? sorry i didnt read the whole thread
-
Actually, I don't think the 10" is supposed to be out until 2008 sometime. I like it better, but I would rather have the 7" which is cheaper and out sometime in August or September I think.
-
This thread is strangely bumped up the list without any new post, just new votes... weird...
-
when you vote, the thread gets bumped.
-
Any more news or pics on this cool, cool notebook?
-
The most recent thing I can find is this June 27 SlashGear Review. Allegedly Engadget China has more detail Here. I don't have Chinese installed on my browsers, but here's some of the English language info provided:
And, I agree, the message bump when someone votes is annoying. Sounds like a site suggestion! -
So any word on the actual release date of this tiny lil thing? I can't wait to get one. Are any resellers doing preorders?
-
ugh... according to engadget, the prices have unofficially been bumped up to $269-299 for the 2gb model, and $369-399 for 4gb. $100 for 2gb? No thank you. I can get a REAL laptop for 400 bucks. If these prices are anywhere near the actual prices at launch, then Asus has just lost a customer. I was really looking forward to the $249 for the 4gb too
-
According to DigiTimes, Asus will begin worldwide shipments of its low cost Eee PC laptops next month. Prices in the U.S. will range from $199 - $369.
"The Eee PCs will be available at US$199, US$239, US$349 and US$369 depending on specifications, with the model priced at US$349 targeting the mainstream, said the sources, noting that the first-round shipments will be mostly of the mainstream model."
WOOT!
I want one -
I think that the last news I read on the Eee said that it will be available in america for late september/october.
-
Likely in limited supplies. It'll be a while until it's readily available.
-
The thing that bothers me is that big gap between 239 and 349. I heard the $239~ model will have only 2gb of flash memory, while the $349~ model only has 4gb. I really wanted an 8gb flash drive in mine, so what gives?
Asus Eee, Are you getting 1?
