in store order for thu pkup was kind of whacked, they take you through order online but somehow it bypass shippingn to you and you will just have one reserved for you.......though I really hope they mess up and send me one as well :D

what sucks is with CA tax, I paid $1113 today :(

Yikes on the taxes! I will be picking mine up Thursday as well. Didn't pre-order it though since I am not sure where I will be on Thursday...Could be Chicago, could be southern Indiana, or could be back at home.....LoL. My job requires that I travel worldwide for a living. But I checked and the highest I will have to pay in tax is about $69. Course if my schedule changes who knows.

I checked out the G60 and I didn't see much of an advantage over the G51 unless DDR3 RAM is a big difference (Which I still don't know if it's been confirmed or not. I prefer the clean design of the white lid, and for the new clearance price I rather overclock the processor and install Windows 7 myself. I'm currently contemplating whether I should buy the G51 (with the 25/mo payment plan) now or wait until I can afford the new G51J (which will probably be in a few years). I don't need monstrous power but I do want something I can play Borderlands comfortably in.

Yeah Memico no real difference from what I can tell. My main reason for the G60 is that I was never fond of the white lid. All being said, I would have bought the G51 last Friday if the local store had one.

Took another picture before I placed my pre order today. I made this mistake of playing HD trailer of modern warfare 2 infamy.....then I started to imagine that game on this machine...whipped out my credit card and it all went downhill from there :D

Bestbuy pre order is weird....I put money down...ordered online... and he said there will be one in store for me to pick up...but of course as u can see in store pick up is not available so on the receipt, order status page, shows shipping to my address. I called BB online help, they said it shows in process, set to ship UPS next day???????????????????

BUt then I explained the situation to her i pay now and pick up in store thursday she said maybe there is some special arrangement then that she's not aware of. So I asked her please don't touch or modify my order in anyway just in case messing with it mess up the arrangement and I end up getting nada.

Secretly I'm seeing if I have the luck of picking it up in store and they also send me one next day via UPS :D :D :D j/k

I did talk to store sales rep, they said not many people are pre ordering the G60..most people order HP...Dell..Sony CW series what not..gaming laptop is a specialized niche market that I dont thinik ill have trouble finding one even if i did not pre order..

Holy crap, i cant even imagine what that looked like in person.

That 4830 looks to be gold as well. If it can get at least 9000 then that thing is nice.

I like that laptop a lot as well but i just can see myself leaving 17 after being here for a while.

Hm according to Angelic some of the prices for these windows 7 machines are fake. I think she mentioned that they cant put the real price until the release date. So maybe the Envy is cheaper?

I'm pretty sure GTX 260 performs better than ATI 4830 but one thing funny was windows 7 index rated 260 at 6.8 but 4830 at 7.3 . because gtx 260 is 256 bits whereas 4830 is 128 bits.

However I do wonder if this applies. Nvidia gtx 285 (desktop ) is 512 bits and 5870 (desktop) is 256 bits but 5870 beats 285 easy....but I don't know if this applies to the laptop cards. Guess we will have to wait for empirical evidences.....

Anybody know if these two Asus Best Buy online only models will be available this week? They just say coming soon. They can't be preordered yet.

    FIRST

    SECOND

I am really interested in the G60Vx-RBBX09 for the extra hard drive and faster cpu.

unless it was a typo that X09 model also comes with a 9cell battery instead of the 6cell most commonly found in the G51 series.

I've almost made my decision, I'm heavily leaning towards the discounted G51, but seeing the G72 with the quad core has really thrown a wrench into the whole operation. I'm now torn, do I want price and compact-ability, or do I want quad core and preinstalled windows 7. Looks I'll have to decide on a coin toss come thursday.

Wait I'm confused, which is better, the G60Vx with the 9 cell and 2.53GHz, or the G72Gx with the quad core and only 2.0GHz/8 cell? It's so close that I can't figure out which is one with better specs. The G60Vx SOUNDS better, but I just wanted to make sure before I jumped the gun.

It depends on what you're going to use it for. the G72Gx will have a fair bit lower battery life but will bench more and be futureproof in CPU intensive games, but the G60VX will do better in games with only 2 threads, and can be OC'd further. and should also have a bit higher battery life

not in UPS system yet...so can't say but I'll let you know as soon as it shows up in ups tracking. Supposedly its next day shipping.

At first I was thiniking ok they ship it to store for me to pick up thursday. Seemed like a sensible assumption then the shipping address was to my house. It's all messed up. Maybe they ship to me by mistake and still saved one for me at store :D sell one!

If i'm spending, I'm taking someone down with me :D

U know how base ALienware m15x has GT 240m as video card. has 48 stream processor. So does 230m, only difference is 230m might be slightly slower clocked. You can play game at slightly lower resolution.

Depend on what you want to do, if for game GTX 260M with 112 gpu slaughters the 230m but if you want a fast machin that can play some game, this would be good.

Hmm..I'm kind of at a crossroad here. Would the 72GX-RBBX05 with Core2 Duo P8700 be better for gaming compared to the G72Gx-RBBX09 with the Q9000? From my understanding the Q9000 is a lower-end quad core cpu..eh?

Quads beat dual cores in multi-threaded apps. Both are good for gaming, but cpu dependent games will benefit from the quad.

Yep it's a lower end Quad but it's still a Quad core as apposed to dual core. Gaming atm mainly only utilizes dual core but some are taking advantage of quad cores such as Crysis...More will follow I am sure of that.

Edit: Damn Chicnoob beat me to it. :)

For the Windows Experience index thing. You cannot take those things serious.

sometimes you have to update that area to get a good response so i could see why the 4830 would show as a high GPU.

P8700...I ran into this same decision making process when I bought my desktop (2 years ago I went with the Q6600). I always look towards upward progression. I am going dual core atm but mainly do to the fact that I can only spen $1100. If I could spend more I would definitely go with the I7.

Good to hear BB has them out for show gonna have to go and check them out in person.
Even though this has no bearing on this thread the HP sure looks nice but at twice the price not sure if it's worth the extra $$$. also external optical drive  not good.
And I'm sure for gaming anyway the 260GTX is better then the ATI 4830 not much better I don't think but still more capable.
Isn't that why we are interested in these laptops in the first place.
    Gaming ;)
