Asus G60VX Lauching on Oct 22, 09 at Bestbuy

kinda of a threadjack but death is a pretty bad side effect. I am torn too on taking this thing. since I frequent sites that involve conspiracy type stuff I have concerns, but I believe nothing alex jones says.

 

My UPS tracking still not showing results, probably just packaged, assigned a tracking number and sitting in bb warehouse not shipping till tomorrow. Even better, ill still go pick it up thursday at store and see whta happens then.

Hey I'm still eyeballing the newegg G51J the one with quad....wonder how long that 6 cell will last. probably 30 mins

And yea...they gave us priority for swine flu shots....but not sure about being the guinea pig..

 

Just saw the G60VX in person and the cover art is nice.

You pretty much couldn't tell the G60 from the G51 as the screen size increase < .5" isn't noticeable.

The one aspect of the G60VX that I really did like is the exclusion of the LED side lights. While the lid graphix might be slightly flashy, its still very tastefull and no flashing blue side lights!

 

I don't mind the blue side led lights, they actually look nice. It's the ugly designs Asus puts on the lids that I dislike. A brushed metal look would be ideal.

 

Ok just talked to someone at bestbuy.com who knows what she's talking about. Apparently they have all the window s7 G60 in stock of course. Its all packed up and assigned UPS next day shipping label, just have NOT left the warehouse. UPS will pick them up tomorrow for Thursday 22nd delivery.

Question remains, stay home and wait for UPS to come or do what I really want to do, go to store at 10am and pick mine up which I want it asap and not sit home and wonder what the hell to do when UPS delivers as well?
PS: god knows what time UPS will deliver, not feeling the love to sit home and wait all day...

 

You could be like all those psychotic stay at home moms and follow the UPS trucks around like they did last Xmas looking for a Wii.

 

Go to BB and pick it up instead.

i agree ull be waiting for ever and for some reason it might not even show up on Thursday can happen just go to the store and pick it up.

 

Not sure how good UPS service is in your area but with my experiences with them I would just go pick it up from BB.
When you checked out the G60 was the screen any better than the G51?
Could you tell any difference? Brightness,color gamut,contrast?

1) Roger that, I'll head to Bestbuy at 10am Thursday to pick it up. If UPS comes and give me one more G60, so be it

2) G60 screen is about the same as G51 in term or brightness, clarity which means it's excellent. I have owned G51 and G60's screen looks no difference. Just as good. I couldn't really tell the difference of G60's 16 in vs G51's 15.6 inches..negligeable.

3) I shall post review as soon as I get it...

I was going to check the system to see how many g60's we have in stock today but forgot.

losers have me scheduled to work midnight shift the night before to downstock all the computers we have to sell.

btw, that envy weighs like 8 pounds with the fullsize battery in.

no. guys that work in my dept just have to stay late to move all the computers to the floor since all the computers are in the back room right now to keep morons from accidentally selling them and to prevent angry customers from getting upset for not selling it to them. and in my store we're revamping the storage units underneath the displays.

Well took a ride to BB to see if they have them in person and yes they did.
Jackpot!
Had both the new G72GX and G60VX.Got my hands on both.
G72GX looks really good in person and I'm sure is a very capable laptop but is a little to big for me.I'm sure it's quite the performer but again too bulky for what I'm looking to get.
G60VX looks much better in person,Black and Blue color is much better than the White on the G51( to me anyway).Slash/Rip scheme( Or whatever it's supposed to be) on the lid is not as bad looking as I thought it would be.
I could live with it and maybe one day learn to love it.
A non-issue that is only a minor factor in weather to buy or not.

Not sure what ASUS is thinking when they designed the color scheme and lid graphics on the G50/G51/G60 series but a nice solid color (other than WHITE!lol) would be great,maybe a BLACK or even the dark BLUE color found on the G60 without the fancy lid graphics would make a great laptop that much greater.
I know looks are subjective and a lot of people do like the fancy patterns on the lid but I'm glad they got rid of the flashing lights on the side and went with a much better color scheme.
Just my own opinion that the current G60 looks like the best one yet.

Screen looked really good even with the low res, touchpad and trackpad looked and worked great and the backlit chiclet style keyboard was fantastic.Rubber palmrest surface is a very nice touch and it has more than enough ports.Ran silent when using it but then again that was doing very low intensive stuff.
ASUS has a winner on there hands.
This thing is very solidly built with quality materials.

 

UPS tracking shows my G60 is on the way to be delivered tomorrow.

 

Stupid store just advised me I can not go pick up tomorrow. They apologized profusely for not knowing what the heck happened that the pre order for in store pick up did not materialize and the computer was shipped. I told them I specifically asked 3 times that my order method was for in store pick up which they said yes and now dog on ups has to have it and signature is required. I'm busy as heck and can't wait around all day for ups. They continued to apologize but there was nothing they can do.

Guess I'll just leave a note for UPS to go ahead and take the shipment back and I'll go to a different BB to pick it up. Not gonna let this stupid Pasadena store get my business.

i wanted to buy the hp envy 15" but its a little too costly

so im going back tomorrow during noon to buy it, wish me luck


edit: it is actually on display at my bestbuy also the hp envy 13 and 15... OMFG the hp envys are soooooo sexy i love it, the g60 i checked out at bestbuy was blue, not white.. idk where u guys are getting ur info from

 

My g60 should be coming tomorrow hope some one will be home when it comes had to take advantage of the free express shipping. Hopefully it will everything i wanted.

I wonder if these are going to have the high heat issues a few are experiencing when it comes to Asus Gaming laptops from Best Buy. You know, high 80's and 90's through the GTX 260M. I'm one of the few with low temps of course (70's) but I'm concerned for the others, I wonder if Asus addressed the heat issue (ie added another fan or something.

I've been to Best Buy recently to pick up my Backpack for my G71GX-RX05 (FINALLY!) and saw the G60VX-RX05 and surprisingly, I didn't even notice it was the G60VX-RX05 due to the fact it looks identical to the G50VX-RX05 (same keyboard, arm rests). Specs say other wise though (updated CPU) and Windows 7 pre-installed is nice.

Sadly, I won't be able to get my windows 7 through Asus it looks like due to me losing my receipt due to a move. Asus told me to call the Best Buy who sold me it for a receipt but it's been too long to even bother . Guess I'll grab Windows 7 by "other means"... I was told you can simply use the vista license for it anyway.

Well I'm still pretty sure I can get Windows 7 by "other means" instead of going through Asus since they don't want to give it to me (it was suppose to be free anyway but whatever )...

@sfan786: I'll try and see this weekend, I'm positive that they don't have it in their records due to me purchasing the laptop on September 21 (that makes it a month since the purchase). I'm quite frankly shocked that Asus won't accept a bank statement showing the date and amount of the purchase and just accept that.

I did go check it again yesterday just to make sure, cause I was one of the original G51 owners that had an IDLE temperature of 85C, I posted on G51 forum before. INternet connection was not good so I did the unscientific method of lifting the laptop up and put the vent near my ear to see about the noise and temp.

Noise was non, it was super quiet but there were HOT airs constantly being pumped out, just like G51.

 

if by some miracle is actually does run considerably cooler than the G51, I'll return my G50 tomorrow and pick up the G60 not holding my breath...

hmm this would actually be a pretty decent portable gaming machine (mid range)... indicated the GT 230m here is DDR 3 which by notebookcheck is comparable to 9700m GTS with 48 stream processor. Not as good as GTX 260m's 112 of course but pretty nice for anyone looking for a blue ray machine thats portable and can play game at mid detail ..

 

Just returned from Best Buy with my G60. Not even out of the box yet though since I am at work. Will let you all know later my initial thoughts.

Windows 7 people, the differences in speed in games and such might be little or great we don't know...

Ok after about an hour here are my initial thoughts. *Nice display (even though the resolution could be better). Great performance but need to run some benchmarks after while. My only gripe right now is that the volume on this thing does SUCK. I even downloaded a new realteck driver but no help. I hope they fix this soon because it's very annoying when you can't hear in game sounds or web videos over normal ambient sounds in my hotel room with nothing but the TV on at a low level.

 

is it me or are the top left and right corners of the screen cut off ?? thats starting to annoy me

 

I just discovered that the speakers were set to 4 out of 8 in the bios. It did help but still could use some more.

Actually it's just the design of the bazel I think.

Just go with 186.81 official Nvidia drivers, or 186.82 which imo are better but not for all.
