That's a welcomed change. Something I constantly criticized about the N550 was the hard drive. I'm willing to trade 250ish GB for a speedier performance. I think the 750GB is a better choice overall.

That being said, I'm curious about the price and availability. The list price seems to be $1100, but is selling for $1000. Will the JM model with 860m be available in the US? If so, for how much?
It seems strange because I've seen the JM with European prices and most of them translate to a $1100ish tag. Maybe the JM will cost $1200 in the US? Just speculating.

I'm tired of the lack of information, basically.

Sager NP8268....I wanted the N551 for specs and looks but I prefer the look of the N550 and was tired of waiting for a laptop announced nearly 5 months ago.

Just ordered this one,I think it's the best compromise between specs and looks,a technician there told me the display is much more better than the N550jk,will check out the performance of the 7200rpm,if not convinced will swap for SSD..

    @ omarfaie007
I'm thinking about ordering that N551JK from microcenter myself, and replacing the hard drive with a 256GB SSD and using the 750GB in an enclosure as an external drive. As far as I know, there is a USB doggle that can be purchased on Amazon to increase the Wireless Lan to AC. That was one of the draw backs a reviewer stated, that the range wasn't as good as the N550 that has it but the N551doesn't. Post back when you purchase it on your views and impressions, especially how the viewing is on the laptops matt screen

Would be awesome if you could inform us a little about the laptop when you get it :)

Specially the screen: I want to know if it's really IPS or not. Pretty interested about what your friend said, too. That gives me something to look for.

The Asus model number I was referring too, that has the 750GB with 7200RPM hard drive is: ASUS N551JK-MH71. Microcenter is selling it in the USA and that is what the specs show on their web site, the link is further back, on page 11. Sorry if there was some confusion.

I just came back from the store, was playing with n551 and i must say i have no doubt anymore what affordable 15 inch laptop i will buy it,didnt like the g551 because black colour makes g551 very bad looking (dust, smudges etc), n551 is great, and keyboard is awasome no flex no bouncing nothing.

There are 860Ms with Kepler architecture, but they're not very common. I doubt that's the one they have here.

The 2GB model is not limited to Kepler. Of that, I'm sure.

because all new g551 models are listed with gtx860 4gb ddr5 and all new n551 are listed with gtx860m 2gb ddr5? why? n551 and g551 have different gtx860m inside?

they could, yes, but I'm gonna say no here. Despite not having hard facts, I'm pretty sure all GPUs found in G551 and N551 variants are Maxwell (even on G550 and N550, which have both 850m). If you're more worried about the RAM, all I can say is that Asus lists the N551JM as having either 2GB or 4GB: https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N551JM/specifications/

It definetely exists, but probably it's not available in your country with 4GB.

Once again, I don't have the facts, just an assumption with all the info I've known during the last few months.

Not necessarily! Check the site again: the 860M 2GB that you picked to compare is labeled "v2". There's a non-v2 too, that one is Maxwell.

So basically, what I get from that site is:
    1. All 4GB 860Ms are Maxwell
    2. The 2GB 860M has Kepler and Maxwell variants.

As I said, though, the Kepler ones are not very common, and I'm pretty sure all 551 laptops have Maxwell.

I am also searching for N551JM, but its like chasing an unicorn. Based on your links I presume you are from same country as I am (Serbia), so if you manage to find it somewhere please post on forum, I will do the same. Sometimes I wonder if shops in my country actually had it in a first place. N551JK-CN112D is available (i7, 4gb ram, gtx850m ddr3) for 890 euros, but for a small price difference I prefer better video card and more ram of N551JM-CN142D.

EDIT: Silly me I forgot to say hello to everyone on this great forum (since I just joined). I am searching for new nb since my old Dell Inspiron N5010 is now four years old and useless at gaming (thou still works great). I was considering between ASUS N551JM, Acer V15 BE and Lenovo Y50-70, and N551 has least cons.

EDIT2: I just received mail from only store in my country which had it listed as available (MMMobile Lapovo) and it confirmed my previous thoughts: "Poštovani dobili smo info za traženi računar,biće isporučiv sredinom decembra 2014 god.jer ga niko nema na stanju." Basicaly they say that no shop still has it, and it want be available until mid of December (at least in Serbia).
