hi, my scar 15 ryzen 5800h Bios V3.19 in time spy only reaches 7500 points. RTX 3080 after uploading bios msi 125 + 5 W in time spy reaches 13,000 graphic points. I wonder why the processor achieves such a poor result because it has reached the maximum of 8000 points. From what I found on the forum, I have the worst possible Micron RAM memory 2x8 gb sigle rank in dual channel mode. Will there be a big improvement after switching to hyperX impact 2 x 16 gb dual rank? My current memory in the aida 64 write test reaches only 2700 points, in the reading it is already well 4300 points.

I have a strix scar 17 with the 5900hx and 3080. Does anyone have the best vbios to flash to this for Max performance and no issues? Is there a quick guide on how to flash the vbios on the scar 17? Thanks!!

how different is the hyperx ram compared to the stock ram on the 32gb model? I heard they are identical besides secondary timings, which gave the hyperx ram a slight edge?

The keyboard is definitely something you either love or hate, but I find it that with such short travel for the keys even on a low profile mechanical keyboard having linear switches is superior to anything else.
I tested Gigabyte laptop with linear mech switches versus one with blue, its night and day, linear all the way for such low key travel.
Clicky switches only makes sense if you have a lot of travel and force enough to actually feel them actuate.

did you guys notice that temps went higher with the bios 319 update? also in some games I can see that the core frequency is around 1200 to 1300 and rarely it goes to 1545 or higher. Does someone have by any chance the 311 version of bios or 313? cause I kinda want to go back to it

LE: can confirm. I installed bios 315 and temps did went lower, by a lot. And frequency got stable, so at least for me, bios 319 did change something on handling the temps and stuff.

Im getting similar numbers with the ge66 vbios, and heat is less of an issue. If you are not going to apply liquid metal or anything like that heat is prob gonna be an issue with the ge76 vbios

for 14 days I had the bios from msi ge66 125 + 5W installed and everything worked fine, myasus downloaded the new vbios automatically a few days ago, despite the automatic update of gpu-z shows in bios from msi. Unfortunately, the hdmi port has stopped working, usb c is displaying the image correctly. With nvflash I restored the original bios and unfortunately the image via hdmi is still missing, then I updated vbios with myasus and the image via hdmi is still missing. I reinstalled windows and the image is still missing. Has anyone encountered a similar problem ?

In my g15 the motherboard fell, I sent the laptop to the service 14 days ago, no parts at the authorized asus service. I know several people who also damaged the motherboard in the same laptop.

Yesterday I flashed the MSI 165W vbios on my ASUS Scar 15 laptop. I am now able to see how much power the GPU is consuming in the HMiNFO64 software and also in the NVIDIA performance screen overlay (which was not possible with the MSI 155W vbios). The GPU is using the full 165 watts of power. The GPU power is not being limited by Armoury Crate or the bios.

I will add that I repasted both the CPU and GPU with liquid metal. The GPU temperature varies per game. The GPU is reaching temps of between 74c all the way up to 82c. I tend to play all my games with a resolution of 2560x1440p with all the graphics settings maxed out. If I lock the frame rate to 70 fps the GPU temperature is even lower.

The MSI 165W vbios can be downloaded from here: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/234592/234592

Did you manage to find a fix for this issue? I am experiencing the same issue, but with the type-c video port that is located at the back of the laptop. Windows 10 automatically installed an update and now the type-c port is not working when conencted to my 4K TV. Was working perfectly before the Windows 10 update got installed. Charging the laptop via the type-c video port is still working.

I did not find a solution, I submitted my laptop for warranty and the motherboard was replaced. Msi has a mux switch, it is possible that it causes blocking of external ports on ASUS laptops. I am curious how many people have problems with external video ports after uploading these bios from msi.

The type-c display port when hooked up to my 4K TV is not working. I am going to uninstall all the NVIDIA drivers and reflash the laptop's 319 bios. I think the MSI 165w bios has messed up the type-c display port.

Was the type-c display port working on your laptop before you flashed the MSI bios? Also did you install any Windows 10 updates?

I believe MSI have change the type c behaviour in their vbios on purpose to prevent this. Or maybe they simply changed it because they needed to and now we get kind of screwed. I flashed back the 150w vbios and it worked again.

Can you post the download link to the 150w vbios you are using?

EDIT: The type-c port on my Scar 15 is working again. I flashed my original backup vbios and then in Windows 10 I had to open "Device Manager", and in the "Display adaptors" section I uninstalled the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 laptop GPU and then I waited 15 seconds for "Device Manager" to automatically refresh and show my NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 laptop GPU again under the "Display adaptors" section. And then in the Asus Armoury Crate software in the iGPU mode section I switched the GPU to auto and restarted my laptop. Now the type-c display port is working again.

Anyone tried the 150-165w vbios from the alienware x17? Since it has no mux switch perhaps it would keep our hdmi/usbc ports intact.

I have not tried the Alienware's 165W vbios on my Scar 15. But I will say this:

All the ports on my Scar 15 laptop work with the 155W MSI vbios. It's only with the MSI 165W vbios that the type-c display port would not work. In terms of performance I am getting better performance with the MSI 155W vbios when gaming directly on the laptop than with the MSI 165W vbios. It seems with the 155W vbios the GPU is drawing more power much more consistently than with the 165W vbios. The game Cyberpunk is a prime example. I get much better frame rates with the MSI 155W vbios than I do with the MSI 165W vbios.

This is the MSI 155W vbios I am using with my Scar 15 RTX 3080 laptop:

    https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/229687/229687

Make sure after you flash the MSI 155W vbios restart your laptop and then do the following:

    1. Open "Device Manager", and in the "Display adaptors" section uninstall the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 laptop GPU (do not tick the box that ask you if you want to uninstall the GPU drivers).
    2. Wait 15 seconds for "Device Manager" to automatically refresh and show the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 laptop GPU again under the "Display adaptors" section.
    3. In the Asus Armoury Crate software in the iGPU mode section make sure you have switched the GPU to auto and then restart your laptop.
    4. Now check if the type-c display port is working.

    How guys,

Is anyone thinking of flashing the new S17 vbios onto the scar 15? It seems that Bios hits 130-38Ws on the GPU consistently and could be a bit safer in terms of longevity?

I am curious about this too!
100-140W TGP bios from s17 could do miracles due low TGP in less demanding games and could provide quite noticeable boost in demanding titles due 10W extra.

    Also:
Everyone who have replaced their 240W charger to 280W ADP-280BB. I have one request - could any of you measure output voltage?
I have received my power brick and it's outputting 20.9V instead of 20V. Stock 240W measured output is 20.2V.
Could you measure yours? I've bought it on eBay.
    Heres how to:

    Simply:
Have a multimeter. Plug black jack into 'com port' red into one that have "V" symbol. Turn on multimeter to 200V DC (anything that will handle value above 20V but cannot be exactly 20V because it will display 0). Put red 'pin' inside charger to touch inner 'needle', touch black one to the outer side of charger plug (do not touch pins together!), report your results :)

I'm pretty concerned about burning my Strix mobo with overvoltage ... 20.5V would be safe but almost 1V above ? hmm...
What do you think - should I use it?

PS: Sticker spec is: 20V 14A (and it's like geninue one from Asus)

after uploading the bios version 155w, the usb C port works fine, but despite switching off igpu on the external monitor after the usb c cable igpu is still used, msi afterburner shows 10% igpu usage, which unfortunately lowers the performance; (

I won't be. 138W is not enough for my needs in terms of the high graphics settings and screen resolution I like to play my games with. The only thing that stopped me returning my Scar 15 laptop was the MSI 155W vbios. That vbios provided a considerable boost in FPS.

I am also using the original 240W power adaptor for almost 2 months every day with the MSI 155W vbios and I have not experienced any issues. Maybe the original 240W power adaptor is really a 280W power adaptor?

I was going to order a 280W adaptor from AliExpress, but I doubt the adaptor will be 100% genuine.

I'm measuring steady 220 at the wall with occasional spikes up to the low 230s with cpu and gpu maxed with the stock vbios on the 240 brick. Calculating for the ac/dc loss there should be about 50w+ before the brick hits that 240 so I wouldnt bother gettin a 280 either. Unless ofcouse I need a 2nd brick for another location.

I have one 280W from eBay. The same are sold on aliexpress. But no one replied to my request to measure voltage output on this 280W power brick.
They have quite higher output than stock 240W one (or its just my unit). 20.2V vs 20.9V

Hello. Does somebody have the S17 3080 16GB vBios? Can you share it? Did someone tested it? I can't find much information over internet. I would like to try it but only if is not having any side effects like usbc not working, wattage not showing in gpuz/ msi afterbourner, etc.

20.9 is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. That voltage is gonna drop once theres a load attached to it (meaning when you plug it into the laptop). +/- 5% is within spec.

That is what I thought. Hopefully there wont be any issue with ports and it just increases the Wattage. But that thought might be a bit too simplistic :)

I have overheating issues with my 280w brick, had a look what's inside, and it doesn't look genuine for me - it was assembled sloppily, soldered by some blind armless monkey :).
Thermal grease on these blue capacitors wasn't applied properly - it didn't touch that aluminum radiator on top at all.
Initially I planned to mod it with active cooling, but now I think it will be enough to just increase capacity of these capacitors and properly repaste them.

I feel the same about mine.
I plugged my scar 17 and after 20 minutes or so this ADP-2800BB B was hot like hell (I was unable to touch it...)
Not going to use it again. Stock 240W never get that hot, sometimes its very warm but still can be 'touched'.

You can buy a cheap thermal grease, and apply it between diode bridge and radiator, and between capacitors and radiator.
This will down temperatures significantly, and doesn't require disassembling - just open a box by unscrewing 4 screws under a sticker

I will have to test this. But when I use the type-c display port to connect my laptop to my external display I see on average a 7 fps increase in performance with the games I play.

I am going to disable the iGPU in device manager to see if doing so increases the performance of my Scar 15 laptop further.

EDIT: I disabled the AMD iGPU in Windows 10 "Device Manager" and noticed my 3D Mark benchmark score was lower. I then re-enabled the iGPU in Windows 10's "Device Manager" and did the 3D Mark benchmark again and now my benchmark score is higher.

after connecting to an external monitor via usb c and turning off igpu in device manager for ryzen 5800h and rtx3080 155w msi bios in 3d mark time spy the overall result was 12588 points, firestrike - 33,700 points. What are your results?

Ok - did it worked for you? Is it running cooler ?
I'll go with K5 Pro thermal paste that is thermal pad replacement and is able to fill 'big gaps' up to 3mm. It have about 5,3 W/m.K.
Honestly I was really scared to use it but if it helped you then I re-consider to open it and apply your suggested 'improvement' :)

I discovered the biggest problem with the 155W bios from Msi version 94.04.3F.00.4F. The VULKAN API often doesn't work. Sometimes in GPU-z it shows the availability of this technology, and sometimes not. Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 I am forced to play directx 12, when GPU-z shows the availability of the Vulkan technology, I play vulkan in Red Dead Redemption 2 because it is more efficient. Maybe a newer version of this video bios will fix this problem, someone has a newer version from 94.04.3F.00.4F? Do you also have this problem?

Hey there, i have the 2k 17, so I’m very interested in this. Is there anything not working? I got liquid metal on the cpu and gpu from gentechpc, and thermal pads on my ram. How do you lock frame rates at 70fps? And do you have a larger power brick or using the stock 240 watt? How is its heat?

One more question, if I’m rendering videos, that could be max power usage for a solid hour, is there a way to limit it so it doesn’t explode, like in armory or whatever? (I’m new to the high end pc market and overclocking)

    thanks!

Hi, I ended up getting the crucal balistix 3200mhz cl16 64gb kit because those timings seemed awesome too, and their website also recommended me this ram using their tool that checks your system. But it's only running at 2667, anything I'm missing? I'm past my return window for this ram.
