When you install memory in a system, there is a set of standardized speeds/timings your memory will run at. This standard is called JEDEC. This is why you see DDR4 memory speeds like DDR4-2133, DDR4-2400, DDR4-2666, DDR4-3000. These are standardized speeds that all memory manufacturers adhere to. Outside of JEDEC, we have something else that can determine the speed at which your memory runs; this is called XMP. Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) was originally created by Intel® and is now used by all memory manufacturers with high performance desktop memory. If you install XMP memory in a non-XMP motherboard, or don’t have XMP enabled, the memory will simply run at whatever JEDEC timings the computer decides. With Ballistix parts this often means the memory will be downclocked to the next lowest speed. BL2K
Hence this memory speed downclocked to 2666.

So am I screwed with this memory? Or is there a way to turn on XMP then? Do i need to see if I can return this and get a different memory? You guys are recommending a HyperX one or OLOy?

I changed the factory memory to the hyperX 3200 mhz cl20 which works with these parameters. CPU performance has increased :) it is important that the memory bones are on 2 sides to make it a dual rank memory.

I don't think we will get XMP support anytime soon, so it's best to sell it on ebay

I am using a software called NVIDIA Profile Inspector to limit the frame rate to 70 fps. The NVIDIA Profile Inspector software can be downloaded from GitHub: https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector/releases

Here is the direct GitHub download link to the NVIDIA Profile Inspector software: https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaPr.../download/2.3.0.13/nvidiaProfileInspector.zip

    upload_2021-7-25_12-6-31.png

You can also use the NVIDIA Control Panel software to limit the frame rate. Right click on your desktop and open the NVIDIA Control panel software:

    upload_2021-7-25_12-43-5.png
    upload_2021-7-25_12-52-6.png

I am using the MSI 155w vbios on my Scar 15 laptop with the stock 240W power adaptor. I have not experienced any problems. Adaptor gets a bit hot, but that is normal.

As for your last question. Personally If I was rendering videos for 1 hour+ I would either use Turbo mode or manual mode in Armoury Crate. In the Armoury Crate software you can monitor the temperature of the CPU and GPU. If the GPU temperature is reaching 86c just use manual mode in armoury crate and set the CPU fan and GPU fan speeds to 100%.

on the factory micron cl22 ram memory in 3dmark time spy the cpu result - 7300 - 8400, after replacing the memory with the hyperx impact cl20 the result was the least 9300 points, but most often 9600 points,
in aida64 in the memory write test before 3800 and now 4900. in cinebench r20 before 4500 and now 4980.

I rarely use the GPU-Z software application, so I don't know if Vulkan is sometimes unavailable. But I just checked and here is my results:

    guys i have the 17" 5900hx - 3080 - 32GB ram running 155w vbios connect to an external 1440p monitor via usb c
    I mainly play Pubg "unfortunately".
i play on very low so my fps are around 150-200 depending on what i'm looking at which is fine.
the problem i have is when i look at big cities or an open area with lots of trees or when using smoke coz the fps drops all the way to 70 - 80 which makes the game unplayable.
i saw soma of you mentioning oloy rams and i'm wondering if replacing the stock ones will give me any benefit on pubg especially
    thanks

    Hello,

I've read the thread (very interesting), and I have a problem :

I'd like to install the GE66 16GB RTX 3080 125W+5W vbios. I fount a download link on page 22 (IIRC).

But it fails with nvflash : mismatch error. It seems some of you have flashed it without issue....

    I need your help !

Also, I've seen a screenshot of msi afterburner that lets tweak voltage. It is impossible for me.. Help needed again.

    Thanks !

Someone already proofed that MSI 125+5 and 155W vBIOS are equal in terms of wattage pulled from the wall.
Both just "disables" TGP limit on GPU and let it pull how much it wants to.

    Fount it...

I plugged the Asus's usb c cable to the usb c input of my external monitor, there's no such huge différences in terms of performances :/

Armoury Crate set to manual, fans at 100%, CPU 80/80, GPU +100 MHz, Mem +150 MHz for both tests.

    ROOM AMBIENT TEMPERATURE : 24.6°C (ain't nice... )

150W Vbios : Time Spy Score :12469, GPU Score 12978, CPU Score 10205
130W Vbios : Time Spy Score :12490, GPU Score 13007, CPU Score 10198

Gonna power on the climatization tonight to get an ambiant temperature around 22°C, I'll run the bench again.

Have you tried disabling Nvidia platform and framework in device manager? That increased the GPU performance by around 10% for me and another 5-10% on the cpu!!!

This smart power management crap never works in favour for performance lol

Thanks for your tips. Just tried : NO GAIN (a little worst) for the gpu, but great cpu boost : from 9878 to 10465 :)

I wonder where you all are from. I'm French, I've read the entire thread, tried the tweaks you all posted, it's very strange... For example, some of you get more than 14000 GPU score in Time Spy !!!
I've seen a screenshot where msi afterburner works as it should, I've installed it and all settings are greyed out...
Everybody says huge difference in gain when the usb-c output is connected to an external monitor, only around 100 more points in Time Spy for me.

Time for me to go to bed.

    Later,
    Nad

Oh, btw my OS is Windows 10 Ghost Spectre (Compact) 21H1 update 4.1, debloated.
Using the Compact have always given a higher score for the CPU in time spy.

Don't use the SuperLite, it's for desktop computers ;)

The first version I tried was Windows 10 2004, without any updates made by the guy(s) who made it. was buggy as hell...

I use Windows 10 GhostSpectre 21H1 Update v4.1 (compact, because using supe lite results in bad performances...). It loads windows faster (even if I have a LOT of apps installed). It shutdowns much faster. I have a little gain like 100-200 ponts in Time Spy, so I guess I have a few more FPS in games...

As regards reliability, this version is very stable. It's my daily custom OS. But... : don't play with stuffs like "disable HPET" and some others tweaks. On youtube, the guy shows you have a gain of 5-8 FPS in games, but once again it's for PC, not laptops. I enabled it to give a try once and FPS in games decreased for me.

What I like too is that it installs quickly.

    My 2 cents... ;)

Hello, Nadstaky, please can you share the configuration that you use, because i try for everything but i don´t get high points in 3dMark, I get only 10400 - 10900 points with 130w vbios with same laptop g733qs rtx 3080 mobile 16gb, ryzen 5900hx

I also have the g733qs and only get 10900 max. I have the stock 32gb of ram at 3200mhz, running in turbo mode. I do have 64gb of hyperx on the way. But I also have a better liquid metal on both the CPU & GPU and fujipoly xtreme thermal pads on the ram.... I'm not sure how everyone is getting better scores unless they're all using external monitors or our igpu is messing us up.

    @Zack Crossman @accar

What I did first (full Asus STOCK hardware and software) : I ran Time Spy : 10839/GPU 10963/CPU 1§0190.
With DDU in safe mode, I've uninstalled stock NVidia drivers and installed 461.92 WHQL.
    Then
    Time Spy : 11443/GPU 11688/CPU 10290 (iirc manual, fans 100%, cpu +200MHz GPU mem +300MHz, CPU 80/80) Ambient temperature 22.3°C.

After that, I installed Win 10 Home, removed all bloat apps :
    In manual mode (same settings) : 11632/GPU 11906/CPU 10291 (Ambient temp 22,5 °C)

    After installing Hyperx (only CL20) : 11710/GPU 11930/CPU 10606.

    Then flashed MSI 130W Vbios...

Well guys my laptop gave up the ghost. Tried turning it on today and it did that keyboard animation where it turns red but it was stuck on the POST led and the power button led was off, never seen anything like it lol. I switched it off and tried turning it on and it just shows the post led now, no fans no lights, nothing, just that led is lit up telling me it’s possibly a bios corruption issue. Time to deal with ASUS’s RMA team :)

Only reason I posted this here is because I flashed the 165w bios before this happened. It probably has nothing to do with it but you never know… stick to the 155w vbios guys ;)

It’s a soic 8 pin chip programmer. It allows you to manually read and write to vbios and bios chips basically.

Its more commonly known as a CoRight Skypro Programmer

One of the best soic flashers out there in my opinion

wtf is wrong with my machine. Running it on User max, have 64gb of hyperx 3200mhz with the fujipoly thermal pads on the ram and on the ssd's. I have very fast ssd's too. even better liquid metal on both cpu and gpu. Is this all coming down to not using an external monitor? There's only 14 point difference between stock ram and $460 of hyperx??

@accar I think there's nothing wrong with you laptop. You have the 17" with higher internal screen resolution , I have the 15" 1980x1080. Could it be this ?

I'm happy, I finally fount Oloy 2x16 GB CL18 3200 MHz RAM :) I will receive it in 12 days.

BTW, after upgrading to 64 GB HyperX CL20 3200, I've had 130 to 160 more points in Time Spy.

The Cpu physics score increased, but if there is minor change in GPU score it won't provide much extra total points from better physics score. Next time post also the GPU graphics score results for both competing benchmarks.

I've received my 2x18GB CL18 Oloy memory. I purchased it on eBay as I fount it nowhere else.

I've lost 500 points in CPU, Time Spy !!!
    The Oloy CL18 3200MHz : 126 points less in CineBenchR23 !!!

Well, either it's counterfeit Oloy, either it's just crap.

I've put my 3200 MHz CL20 2x32GB HyperX back, my Asus is much more faster.

I'm gonna ask for a refund this evening.

By the way, here's my new highest Time Spy Score on my Dell screen :

BE CAREFULL, DO NOT PURCHASE PC STUFF ON EBAY !

You are not entirely right. Oloy RAM is not good - it have low CL but quite higher Trfc parameters (if i name it correctly) so it cannot be compared to HyperX.
It will be better than stock but worser than HyperX.

hello, after flashing the 155w vbios and switching back to the 130w, my 3080 doesn't boost to 130w and just sticks to 115w. Do you have an idea to fix it? :s

EDIT: Fixed after reinstallation of Nvidia drivers

Today, after adjusting the settings, I got the best result of 12805 in Time Spy on ryzen 5800h and rtx 3080.
