LOL! I would definitely agree! Plus the $35 also includes the price for the card itself.
You have Ken and GenTechPC's customer friendliness and focus to thank for this act of generosity.
If Ken sold Acer laptops, I would have bought mine from him as well.

Anyone get shipments from J&R or Amazon yet?
-
Hi all.. Is there anyone here knows any widget or software that will show you which graphics card is running? I just want to make sure that the Optimus is working.
Thanks... -
Yes there is...if you're using the newer version of the drivers, the test tool is built into the control panel. Go to your desktop, right click and go to Nvidia Control Panel. Click the view button on the menu bar and check off the option to show GPU activity on your taskbar and you'll be able to see if the Nvidia GPU is engaged. Obviously if the Nvidia GPU activity is none/off, the Intel GPU is working.
Alternatively, you can use the test tools here:

Asus U35JC vs ASUS UL30Vt-X1
Which one will run Starcraft 2 better?
I need a light notebook for school and some light gaming (yes I call starcraft 2 light gaming). -
What is the newest version of the 310M? mine got the version that is pre-installed on the laptop, it says 8.16.11.8964
Thanks for the quick response... -
Go for the U35JC... You will not get disappointed with I3
-
I tested turbo-boost function on i5 in U43JC.
SU7300, ul30vt
2 process 32.400sec
1 process 29.624sec
i5-450m, u43jc
2 process 24.619sec
1 process 17.620sec
I recommend i5~
-
whats the cheapest u guys have gotten for the u45jc here in the USA?
also, i heard the u45 gets hot? i thought Asus has gotten better with their system cooling ?? if this does get too hot, then im considering the u30 then due to the cooling of the system. -
>>> I found that the prices of U45JC and U30JC are the same. Which one should I buy? Can anybody make a comparison? (As specific as possible!! ^^)
Thanks in advance! -
8.17.12.5896 - I think Quatro posted the link for the new drivers somewhere in the U30JC thread but I'm sure that you can find it if you just google it. Also, some people have reported problems with the newest drivers with their U35/U45s so you might wanna use some caution when upgrading.
The i5-450 is just barely ranked better than the i3-370 on benchmark tests...the SU7300 obviously doesn't even belong in the comparison. I find it hard to believe that on these laptops anyone would actually need the i5 or an i7 in comparison to the i3, especially if they're coughing up another 200+ for it. The other components of the laptop wouldn't flow with such a powerful processor - even the i3 is more than plenty...but my opinion only of course
-
And here is my U30Jc-A1 stock speed WEI score for comparison (I have the earlier i3-350M 2.26 GHz processor):
-
I saw the benchmark, but I like to say about "turbo boost".
as you know, SU7300 does not have it and i3-370, neither.
therefore, even though i3-370 has similar performance as i5-450m,
i3-370 would be slower than i5-450m for the single task.
anyway, u43jc is almost same price as u35jc.
-
Just posted some benchmarks on my Acer 3820TG if you're interested:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6621901-post3790.html -
it doesn't get hot at all... i played DOTA for a few hours and totally does not heats up...maybe for some graphics intense game, it might? but for now, not a single experience of overheating...

U45JC for built in DVD ROM or U30JC for external DVD rom?
-
Actually both have internal dvd drives. Major difference is the screen size, underclocked 310M in U45JC vs normal clocked 310M in U30JC, aluminum palmrest (U30JC) vs plastic (U45JC) and thats all I can think of as of now. The U30JC-A1 also has BT while the U45JC to my knowledge does not. U30JC-B1 has widi (centrino 1000) while U45JC does not (atheros card). And the U30JC is .2 lbs heavier than the U45JC (4.8 vs 4.6).
-
Your mother smells of elderberries!
-
Thanks! But what about the performance, the battery life, the heat? the weakpoints of these laptops?
-
They have relatively the same components (assuming U45JC-A1 and U30JC-B1) with the exception of the wireless card and the vram on the 310M. The U30JC has a better cooling system. However, both laptops are not known for any heat issues and should run cool.
Battery life on both laptop should be about the same, both quoted at 8 hours with possible real world use of 6-7.
Many of the laptop's weakpoint are all personal preference. Both laptops have great build quality and the only possible issue might be some slight keyboard flex. The single button trackpad might need some getting used to and the webcam is pretty weak at .3 mp. The U30JC is thicker and heavier so that can also be taken into consideration, but will perform slightly better at gaming.
A major factor in your decision should be whether you want a 13.3 in screen or 14 in screen, since that is a key difference in the two models.
U30JC stock 3DMARK06 ~ 3700
U45JC stock 3DMARK06 ~ 3400 -
Many thanks!!! Last question, which one do you think better and why? (assume that you're going to buy 1 of these 2 laptops)
-
Forgot to add U45JC has a 500 GB 5400RPM HDD and the U30JC-B1 has a 320GB 5400 RPM HDD.
I personally like 13.3in laptops so I would be biased going for the U30JC. You should not base your decision on what I prefer though
Think about your needs, do you need a larger screen? For the same resolution I believe the images on the 13in will be crisper, but really itll be hard to notice. The U30JC is heavier and thicker so its slightly less portable, is that going to be an issue for you? Will BT be a concern for you? U45JC and U30JC-B1 doesn't have it, but the U30JC-A1 does. Both will perform the same in day to day tasks any difference will be negligible. Again gaming may be a teeny bit better on the U30JC but really not by much, a 310M is a low end card no matter how you look at it.
Take your pick both are good laptops
Im getting the U35JC though because I dont need an ODD
-
LOL!
Wait until I start overclocking (OC) the ATI 5650 GPU and the i5-450M CPU!
I will also post battery times soon too. -
Hopefully J&R gets their U35JC in stock tomorrow. I badly want to switch pre-orders to GenTech, but my parents are the ones paying for it and they are making it seem like switching pre-orders is a huge hassle. >_<
-
how can it be a huge hassle to them....just do it.
-
I just want to know why people choose this but not that laptop
anw, thanks for your advice. In fact, I don't play games regularly and games I play are not some kinds of heavy games. (Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, Starcraft2, minigames). I can accept low quality as long as the games is smooth.
I really like U35JC (it is more cheaper than U30JC as well as U45JC) but the major problem (for me) is that it doesn't have an ODD. Maybe I'll get an external one for 20$ (gentech).
ah, what is BT? is it TurboBoost Technology? -
bluetooth
I really cant remember the last time i used my optical drive for anything
Although I do wish the U35JC was lighter without it...
-
Me neither, but many people (including myself) like to have the safety of knowing that they have an ODD in case they ever need it. I took a great leap when ordering the U35, I hope I can cope with the lack of an ODD
-
Tell your parents that Bankergolfer (who really is a Banker and a Golfer) told them to stop acting so stupid.
If they insist on doing the dumb thing, then they should give you your tuition money in cash instead of paying the college directly. -
I can't understand how the U35jc can weigh so much without the internal DVD drive.
I called up ASUS Customer Service and asked them about it. They told me it was because of its "magical goodness"!
Just kidding! But spread that rumor around and let's see how far it goes.
3 words for you:
External DVD Drive -
I am planning on purchasing the U45JC from Amazon. I was wondering if there is a guide as to how one does a clean install of Windows so as to get rid of the "Bloatware" that comes standard on the PC.
Thanks! -
Sure it will do the trick, but it's one more thing to carry around.
-
Try reading on this thread, its a discussion on how to get a ISO image of windows 7. They also post the link there for the clean install instruction.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html
That's where I got the ISO image of windows 7 that I used on my U45JC. Since U45JC does not come with just the Windows 7 DVD, I used the ISO image and to do a clean install and use the original windows 7 license that came with my U45. -

I bought this last month, though I admittedly forgot to send in the rebate. Still a good price and the refurb looks like new. -

You'll need a copy of a Windows 7 disk to do a clean install. Asus doesn't bundle a restore disk anymore with the notebooks so you'll have to get one of your own. Alternatively, you can just uninstall all the bloatware. Here's a guide that may help:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html -
If you have access to other computers with an optical drive, you could use one of THESE and access the other system's drive. I often use it to install programs on my UL30VT that are only available on DVD/CD. It'll be another thing to carry around, but is much lighter and easier to transport.
-
Thanks a bunch, in for one! This is exactly what I was looking for, and at a great price, too!
-
Thanks for sharing.
So, it basically acts as a hard-wired "network" for PCs that are not linked together via a WiFi network, right?
FYI - PCs connected via a wireless network can also share optical drives with each other. -
Yup, that's exactly what it is. Here's the product details if you're interested:

i'd like to do a fresh install. all the necessary things can be found on the asus website for the notebook?
-
Yup; all the drivers and utilities are on the Asus website.
-
Thanks!
............ -
is thr a much diff whn u do fresh install n u uninstall all the bloatwares from recovery?
-
I was wondering the same thing. I am considering doing a fresh install if I will get better results than manually removing the bloatware I don't want. I will stick with manually removing it if I will get similar results from both methods.
-
There's a big difference in doing a fresh reinstall.
Just be sure to copy anything that you need before you do. -
I'm a bit confused. If you use the recovery partition then you get all the bloatware back, right? So the only real way to get rid of it is to format, and install Windows from a cd, right?
-
I know several will disagree with my opinion, but concerning your question . . . I've done both and I can't say that I saw a huge difference. After I cleaned out the extras, a decent registry cleaner (I use jv16 Power Tools but there are many out there) will remove most of the traces.
Yes, when you remove an app or trialware, there can be references left in the registry, but most all of the time, those references are to dead links (the physical files have been removed) and so Windows does nothing with it. Those dead links aren't slowing down the OS. Added drivers, DLL's and services CAN slow down the system if they've not been really removed, but I find that my registry cleaner does a pretty good job.
That's comparing a fresh install to ASUS' fresh install and you removing the extras you don't want.
But after an OS has been used a while, I find more difference when I reinstall the OS.
I think most people are making a bigger deal out of reinstalling the OS then is provable.
Having said that, I did reinstall the OS, but because at that time, I didn't realize that the restore partition would let me repartition the drive (I didn't want 2 (really 3) partitions.
And, I find reinstalling interesting; more of a hobby.
That is my take on it anyway.
Yes, the recovery partition restores it to how it was from the factory, trialware, cutesy apps and all.
Uninstalling it can pretty much get rid of it. A reg cleaner gets the rest and being sure the app's directory was truly deleted.
Installing from a DVD will not reinstall those unwanted apps and trialware and it is just a cleaner way to be sure your OS is fresh. -
Correct.
Just be careful not to delete your recovery partition while doing so. It's good to hold on to it in case you want to sell your computer and restore it to "factory install" condition.
