As can PCs connected via a wired Ethernet connection, which is both faster and safer. I'd rather carry a small 2 Ethernet cable with me, than this thingy from Asus, although it certainly is a good solution too (and maybe slightly easier to set up for non-gurus).
Come on Lambda-tek, send that U35 please!![]()

No word from J&R yet...but tomorrow's another day!
-
wrong thread?

Yaoweez! 9400+ after o'c on 3DMk06?! What an awesome score from the 5650.
Congrats! (. . . and your mother STILL smells of elderberriezz.) -
LOL! Thanks!
I'll also be sure to tell my mother that next time I talk to her! LOL!
I'm really impressed with the 3820TG's cooling system. The CPU and GPU each have their own heatsink and fan. It's kept the GPU at 76*C throughout the entire testing session (ambient temps are 28*C). The CPU has been at 85*C constant. Others have re-applied the thermal paste to each and dropped their temps by 5*C (apparently Acer didn't do a stellar job at applying the thermal paste).
Next steps are to overclock the CPU in tests.
@Schwann - I'm just sharing the info with my good friends here in the U35jc forum. Not trying to rub it in or anything else. It's all about sharing good information. -
Well . . . maybe just a little rubbing it in.
-
LOL!
I'm sorry. I couldn't hear you over the sound effects of my playing a graphics-intensive game at medium to high details on my 3820TG laptop!!!
Just kidding!!! -
Still not in stock at JR.com
Hopefully retailers start receiving this very soon!
-
i still don't get why your parents won't let you order from gentech?
-
has anyone received their U35JC from gentech or excaliberpc yet? or received a 'shipped' alert yet?
-
They were going to do it last night, but GenTech is now out of stock.
-
I recieved a shipping number from excaliberpc for my u35 last friday. ETA is thursday for me.
-
Ok, you now have my permission to yell at your parents and tell them:
1. They snooze, you lose!
2. Only the early birds get the worm. Now, they have to eat twigs. -
And how about some reviews when the first batch gets shipped out and there are new owners aye? That would be much appreciated! (or any of you current owners feel free to chime in!)
-
The U35Jc is a standard sized 13" notebook, right? I mean, in terms of buying a bag for it?
Also, on that subject, can anyone recommend a bad that will fit the u35 and a couple textbooks nicely? You know... college and all that. And i don't want to carry around more than one bag. -
Will do, although depending on when it ships from J&R, I might have to ship it from my house to my school, adding another few days to that wait
-
It's not a bag, but a sleeve that I'm recommending.
The Zeroshock III. Everyone is swearing by them. Fits 13.3" laptops like mine and yours perfectly. Just bought mine on eBay from the seller in Dallas, TX that everyone is using.
Zeroshock III on eBay -
I was wondering the same thing for a backpack.
-
Recieved my 500gb momentus xt last night. Popped it in, did a fresh install with a 150gb primary and 350gb data partition. Installed all updated drivers and I'm now BLOWN away by this laptops speed. Only slight niggle is the drive makes a touch of seek noise which is a little annoying, but I did read online that there is a difference between 5.4 and 7.2 speed drives.
-
Awesome! Congrats, Boriskov. I plan, eventually, to do the same thing. I can't now as I'm saving for a Kindle DX.
-
Thought about taking this intermediate step before getting a SSD.
Decided to just save the money and apply it towards getting the real thing when SSDs drop in price with the new models coming out 4Q 2010 / 1Q 2011. -
I definately couldn't justify spending nearly the same amount of cash I did on the laptop for a similar size SSD. If something cheap and amazing comes out later this year I'm only an upgrade away

Hey Guys,
I'm afraid I've spat the dummy and sold out on the U33JC. I waited more than 3 months for the bloody thing and a phone call to simplyasus.com this morning was the straw that broke the camels back. Asus informed them today that the shipment of U33JC's destined for the UK will now not arrive for at least another month!
I've waited way longer than I ever wanted to and I've been without a laptop for the entire time. So I picked myself up from my desk at lunchtime and headed to my local Westfield Shopping Centre and slapped £679.00 down on the counter at Micro Anvika and walked out with a shiny new U35JC (photo's taken from my iPhone 3Gs, apologies for the poor quality): -
So pretty
.
I am eager for mine to come in. This wait is killing me.
-
I love UK slang. "Spat the dummy" won't help me on the GRE, but it's now a part of my vocabulary!
-
Congratulations!
Is that keyboard an open style chicklet keyboard or the traditional chiclet style? -
Dont know if anyone alse ordered from Xotic, but they are supposed to receive their shipment of U35JCs within 24-48 hours. Looking forward to getting mine!
-
Well, that U35Jc looks very nice. I think you'll enjoy it!
"Spat the dummy out"? A new term for me. I lived in the UK 3 years and never heard it. Online tells me it is a mainly Aussie idiom. -
Here's hoping this is when J&R receives their shipment
-
Seriously man... I was hoping it'd arrive before I leave for the weekend. Unless it ships today, it's highly unlikely. Can't wait!
-
I hadn't heard about these. They look really good! I'm gonna wait a few days (finances!) and probably order one next week.
-
Gentech told me mine would ship tomorrow (Wednesday the 25th). I ordered last Friday the 20th.
-
I just got it today. Took 2 days to get to me via USPS. I'll have the review up shortly (and how it fits my 13.3" 3820TG).

What do you think of my final 3DMark06 Quatro? It's the end of the road.
Not too shabby for a laptop that weighs 3.9 lbs! -

I know that some here were interested about this laptop sleeve. -
Thanks for the link BG. It seems like a very nice case. Have you tried to put any accessories in the outside zipper? I'm trying to see if an extra battery and a slim external dvd drive in the zipper and a U35jc in the main compartment would all fit in there comfortably. Thanks!
-
You're welcome!
Both those items should fit, but depending on the shape of the battery, it could make the sleeve look a little "lumpy". -
Hello,
Can someone describe the feel of the U35JC's keyboard? I love the specs of this laptop, but I've heard the keyboard is lousy (soggy, lots of flex)... Because of this, I'm actually considering the less endowed UL30VT.
Anyone here type at 80+ wpm on one of these?
Thanks,
01011010 -
Keyboard is fine to me, takes a bit to get used to the chiclet style keyboard though. Slight flex in the middle but definately not soggy, lots of flex or ill-fitted. I can clock 85+wpm and it's fine for my needs.
-
Hmm . . . I'm trying to imagine a soggy keyboard.
01011010, since the U35Jc's build design is very similar to the UL30Vt, I can't imagine the keyboard being worse. It should be at least as good as the Vt and perhaps better.
Any "bounce" (flex) appears to vary from keyboard to keyboard within the same model (it did for the UL30Vt and the U30Jc) due to the keyboard plate being slightly warped and being slightly "ill-fitting", as Boriskov said, in its keyboard slot. Those keyboards are resting on a nearly solid plate underneath. Some fit perfectly, some not.
The design of the bamboo models (U33/43/53Jc) is entirely different and so we'll have to see how those work. Due to the bamboo models' keyboards NOT being in a slot (entire keyboard surface is the surface of the top), some are reporting no flex at all.
. . . But there is a trade-off. I can easily & quickly access the area under my keyboard and U33/43 owners can't. -
I used and returned an UL30VT.
Now I'm using U43JC bamboo.
For the Keyboard, U43 is much better touching. no flex at all.
However, I am not sure what Quatro said about area under keyboard. -
I just figured I'd pop in to say that I got an expected arrival date from Amazon today for my U35JC. They're expecting it to be here on the 30th (I preordered on the 20th). So that with everyone else's "it's coming in a day or less!" seems like good news for the holdouts and (maybe not so) patient waiters.
-
If you intentionally press hard on certain keys like Q or ], you'll notice some flex. But you normally won't strike so hard during typing. The chiclet keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but it's pretty nice and responsive.
-
I just got an Amazon shipping notice too, thanks to Amazon Prime it will be here tomorrow!
-
Lucky! I have Prime too, but that won't be of much use to me right now.
C'MON J&R, WHERE...IS...HARVEY...DENT?
Uh, I mean MY LAPTOP, WHERE IS IT? -
I had a preorder at J&R too and when I called a few hours ago they weren't able to provide any ETA for when they're receiving their shipment of U35JCs, or even whether my place in line was high enough to be filled from the first shipment. So I just cancelled. Sucks, since the price was great, but I need it ASAP.
-
Buy it from Ken Lee at GenTechPC.com.
You won't be disappointed. -
Unfortunately they are OOS as well!
