Can someone please check for me where the UX302LG is made? And is anyone able to confirm that the fan is inaudible when the GT730m is turned off in the Nvidia controls? I read that the fans stop spinning when you only use dedicated graphics.

That was my solution to Ubuntu issues (installing Fedora 20). I'm writing from it now. Other than some difficulty with altering the screen brightness, it works well out of the box (inc animations for all the fn keys). I'm also happy to report that I can write CUDA code from this OS too. The screen brightness thing is a bit of a problem with battery life, but it seems like it'll be an easy fix.

Looks the same as mine except the drive.
I installed a Samsung EVO 840 500GB to replace the 500GB HDD included in the system, which I'm keeping unblemished as a Windows 8 backup. I'm very happy with the SSD. Once I get past the fedora boot menu, windows loads in 3 seconds, fedora in about 5 seconds.

    Oh thanks! That fixed that.

One last problem is my right speaker under the laptop always vibrates and sounds distorted even messing with audio wizard settings. I don't think it should sound so distorted if something wasnt wrong...

I just got my ux302 and want to install Windows 8.1 Enterprise ... my problem is I cannot boot from USB. Is there a boot menu or something? If I go to BIOS > Boot, it asks me to add a Boot Option but I can't select the USB drive as it only shows the HDD.

I also want to replace the HDD with a M500 but based on the posts here it still has an issue.

I still can't boot from USB so I created a VHD native boot installation instead :)
All files are intact and I'm just running my Win 8.1 Enterprise from a VHDX file.

    Here's how to do it:
    1. Install windows 8.1 to a VHD file (I did it while running on the existing Windows installation)
Deploy a Virtual Hard Disk for Native Boot
    2. Add VHD installation to your Boot Menu
Add a Native-Boot Virtual Hard Disk to the Boot Menu

I'm still waiting for updates for the Crucial M500 support though. I will just move this VHDX file and boot from there in the future once M500 can work.

Have you installed all the drivers? Sounds like a driver issue.

You need to install the ATK Drivers (ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities) for it to work.

Now and again my screen flashes once or twice after coming out of sleep.
Also but less frequently it says that the graphics adapter has recovered from an error etc.etc.

Any ideas why I am having this periodic problem?

I have the latest driver for my UX302LA from the Asus website which is 10.18.10.3325.
When the intel auto driver check runs it says there's a newer driver but when I try and run it says it's not validated for this computer and to obtain the appropriate driver form the manufacturer.

have you tried to uninstall the Intel driver from Device Manager (also tick delete driver) then install the driver you downloaded from Asus again? I have the LG but I was having problems with the Intel driver as well (BSOD :( ) although when I reinstalled it, I unticked the WinSAT and Aero option during the driver install wizard. Now no more BSOD.

    Genius, GAU. BRILLIANT!

I cannot thank you enough! This is why I come to NotebookReivew: to get awesome help from PC masters! :)

One final question, though. My built-in camera isn't being recognized. Might this be a driver issue? I didn't see any driver software on the UX302LG support website. Or maybe its a wiring issue? I just recently replaced the hard drive and screen panel and feel I might've not put something back where it was supposed to. Thoughts?

Has anyone gotten fast charging to work with the UX302 turned on? With the latest version of USB Charger Plus and under WIndows 8.1, my LG G2 only fast charges with the system powered down and slow charges with the system on.

Really considering the UX302LA at Best Buy to replace my aging UL30A-X5, but man these issues I keep reading about are real turn offs! Why has ASUS gone down in quality so much? Mine still runs fine after 4 1/2 years! I just want an updated CPU, HD screen and an SSD now.

Their quality hasn't really changed much - you just got lucky. My experience with Asus is you either get the best machine ever or you get a lemon. Whenever I buy from them, I check EVERYTHING on day one and only buy from resellers that take defective returns with no questions asked. I have never had any serious problems but I literally return/exchange about 25% of the Asus products I receive.

Question to anyone who sent the UX302-LA for fixing the keyboard warping

    1) Hows was the experience with the service and how much time did it take
    2) Does the body between the keys still bend
    3) did they do anything to the files

Asking because i was planning to send my slightly warped laptop for warranty in June when my classes are done so i can have what i expect to be a fully mended laptop before the warranty expires

I tried this but it did not work. I used 2 different ISO's (Win7 and Win8). Should I have used drive format of FAT32 instead of NTFS?

EDIT: looks like I need to format as FAT32

I think most people with the issue returned it to the reseller and not Asus. Returning things to Asus can take months... Make a backup of your files and don't expect to get them back is my advice.

Were you able to resolve the audio issue through HDMI connectivity?
Check in the default playback devices to verify if Digital out is selected as default instead of speaker.

Do the drivers show up in device manager? If so, try uninstalling them and then reinstalling. Those drivers should be built into the OS by now or are bundled with somethign else. I haven't seen a manufacturer put them on their driver downloads a while now.

I am suddenly having some really bizarre touchpad issues, like the mouse is jumping around and some of the areas on the touchpad aren't working... it varies every time I reboot. It all started when I came out of hibernate and noticed that my gestures weren't working and that the touchpad configuration app wasn't running in the taskbar. I reinstalled some drivers and then the mouse basically stopped working. Reinstalled some others and now it's working, but jumps around at the edges and stuff. Anyone else have this issue?

What news are you expecting? Edit: Never mind, I looked back and saw all the posts. I use an m500 msata with an adapter and it works fine. I can't imagine why Windows 8/8.1 wouldn't recognize the full 2.5" drive... I've had issues with Windows not detecting a RAID array before but all I had to do was install the drivers. Has it failed to install for you personally, as well?

    Hi guys

Just bought an UX302LG and I'm not very satisfied. The speaker on the right is louder than the one on the left. Can you guys help me to verify whether if this is true? Play a song, go to Realtek HD audio and move the balance slider between left and right. The right should sound louder than the left.

Also, this is the third unit I've gotten for the week. First unit I got, there were some cosmetic defects and I went for an exchange. Second unit, the display on the top right hand corner bleeds so much (about 2-3cm away from the edge), and the audio on the right is so much louder than the left. So this is the third unit, there are still some scuffs beside the keyboard (I decided to ignore for fear they will get me another faulty unit again) but the display doesn't bleed as much as the previous one. However, on this unit, the speaker on the right is slightly louder than the one on the left with noticeably more treble than the left ones.

I'm heading down to Asus tomorrow and hopefully the dudes there will be able to give me a satisfactory answer. This is not a laptop I spent 1k plus for.

    Cheers!

This is a bad speaker, or speaker connection, or faulty audio circuitry.
Would advise taking it back for exchange.

Yes, I've had this too. Also coming out of sleep in windows.
I noticed it in both Fedora and Windows, so it's unlikely to be a driver issue. The problem went away after I left it off for a while.

Xentar712, there's nothing in the device manager that mentions camera. I don't even have the imaging devices option. Do any of those connections in these pictures pertain to the built-in camera? I think I might have replaced my screen panel not set the wiring back correctly.

I just tried cloning the HDD to my 2.5" M500 960gb but it won't boot although I can see the M500 from the BIOS. If I boot to a Windows 8.1 flashdrive and run diskpart from the setup screen, the M500 is not listed. It can only see the 16gb msata cache and the flashdrive. Once I restart the laptop and then go to BIOS, the M500 will not be listed there until I do a coldboot.

Same thing happens even if I remove the 16gb msata cache. :(

Can you use a desktop to install Windows onto the hard drive? Then try putting it into the laptop to boot it. It should activate it automatically when you put it in the laptop, although you might have driver issues. Then install the drivers and see if everything is cleared up.

Yeah, the wire bundles in the black sheaths - one is for the screen, the other is power/usb hub for camera and light sensor. I thought the hub one also powered the backlight, but I guess not if that is really your issue. Anyways, I did some looking and there is no Asus camera driver. It's a Microsoft driver that is needed and it's installed through Windows. In device manager, under imaging devices, I have HD Webcam. Driver provider is Microsoft and the version is 6.3.9600.16384. Also check and see if your auto-brightness sensor is working. It would be weird if that one worked since they are both likely on the same connection via the hub. If so, it might be a problem with just the camera. Still, it's worth a shot reconnecting the wires to see if they are not seated properly. I'm not sure how to get the driver individually, if it's just a software issue.

    Hallo to all,
I really like UX302LG. Currently I am using UL30A for more than 3 years and I really need some more powerfull notebook :) and it is what I expect from UX302LG.

Unfortunatelly, in our country it's only available with 4GB ram and 500GB HDD with 16GB SSD.
Ram upgrade shouldn't be problem, but I read whole this topic (it's took mi 2 days :) ) and I am still not sure which way shoud I choose?

The simplest way is just swap HDD for some SSD, but for some reason I don't like this solution (I would like to use the 500GB HDD, but not as an external one).

What I prefer is to swap 16GB SSD for some 128 GB half-size mSata SSD. I know that some of you go also this way and I want to ask you, if it's valuable?
Yes, I know that speed cannot be such high as full-sized SSD have, but speed about 200/100 MB/s is still better than HDD could reach.
128GB is enough for me (just for OS and few apps) and I realy appreciate 500GB as storage for my work (about 100 web sites and apps what I am working on which contain many and many of large PSD files and thousands and thousands images, text files etc. - till today it take about 250 GB so without some big internal storage I must to take some external HDD with myself everytime).

Last question is if it's any problem to install OS to mSATA SSD with UEFI support (sorry for this silly question, I've never seen UEFI in action, but someone wrote here that he cannot reinstall OS with UEFI, if I am not completely wrong)?

Thank you very much guys foy any informations.

Actually 1TB 7200rpm drives have a higher sequential throughput, its the small file speed that makes the difference.

You can reinstall the OS on the msata - it's not that difficult to do. Also, I was told by a reliable source that MydigitalSSD.com will be selling a 128GB half msata for $99 that has read speeds of 500MB/s and write speeds of 200MB/s. ETA 2 weeks. Hopefully they come through.

That's a nice mSATA SSD, but the cost is definitely high probably due to scarcity.

Hi Everyone. First time poster here.

I have a UX302LG with Windows 8.1 Standard and I am trying to replace the 500 GB HD with a SSD and I have been so far unsuccessful.

    I have tried a Crucial M500 480 GB and I also have tried a 250 GB Samsung.

I tried to use Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD and ASUS will not boot. It just goes to the BIOS. SATA configuration in the BIOS shows that it sees the SSD but it will not see the file system. After turning off Secure Boot and enabling the CSM, I can at least get to the point of being able to add a boot option, but there is no progress as it still cannot see the file system.

I then tried EaseUS Backup to try cloning with the same results.

I then Tried Paragon OS Migrate to SSD 4.0 and I at least then could get to Windows, BUT it came up with a message there was a problem with Windows options were Esc, F8 or F2 to enter Setup. Any option did nothing or returned to the same screen. Only progress there was that it at least got past the BIOS.

I then tried MiniTool Disk Partition with no improvement.

I booted back into the original HDD and created a USB recovery disk. I put back in the SSD (which was cloned with Macrium) and tried to do a recovery to that drive with the USB. No luck. It booted fine with the USB, but any option (Reset, Refresh, Repair, etc) said that it couldn't find the recovery partition and brought me back to the main screen.

So.. long story short, does anyone have a successful cloning of the ASUS Zenbook UX302LG to a 500 GB SSD hard drive with Windows 8.1? Or any suggestions?

Have you tried a fresh install? You happen to be the same guy in the Q501LA SD thread?

I have M500 960gb 2.5" and tried Easeus Partition Master to clone the HDD but I just end up in a BSOD. From coldboot, the BIOS can see the ssd but after it fails and restarts to boot, the SSD disappears from the BIOS. It will only come back if I shutdown and start from coldboot again.

When using a USB 3.0 adapter, the SSD is seen as a bootable device as well and works fine in Windows 8.1.
