    Unfortunatelly, I have.
First piece seemed to works OK, but I had to exchange it because of backlight bleeding and the new piece has this kind of problem. I tried different drivers, but nothing helps.
I'm thinking about next exchange.. Maybe the third piece will be finally working as it should for this price...

ended up buying the zenbook. ended up returning it to BB because the thing is so damn dim, even after adjusting its setting in powered mode.
nice keyboard, nice feel, but when connecting it with an external monitor for a dual screen set up.. the difference in brightness was staggering. I don't expect it to be at the same level but it was just bad.

I'll be in Japan next week, are there any ultrabooks there that I can get that's not found in the US? i.e UX302 with dedicated video?

External panels will always be brighter. Usually they are set too bright even.

    nothing that i can feel.

guys i need some advice, my key number 9 has just fallen out today while i was typing (usually i dont type much and hard so its very annoying that the key just gotten out), now i tried to put it back but it doesnt hold and jumps out again. It seems like a lack of quality of keyboard, so the question is would the asus rep refuse it as a warranty case, if so would be the whole keyboard replacement necessary (it seems like glued to the upper case) or the only plastic keyboard can be replaced (for cheaper price)?

I'm pretty sure the keyboard is attached to the upper frame and the whole thing would be one piece. I don't see why they wouldn't warranty that - it's not like you dropped it and the 9 key isn't excessively used over space, esc, enter, a, s, w,d, etc. Can you please snap a picture of the backside of the key and the slot it goes into? Close up and lit if you can. I was wondering how they were attached but was too afraid to remove them. My E key is crooked... TIA

    Here you go https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mmoc6aopryh4ysq/_PdholHw2G

If you see carefully there a small broken metal piece on the top right corner, when the key fell out it was already bent down, when i tried to put the key back this little metal piece just broke from its place, so i wonder if the service will accuse me that i broke it so on. The thing is that these key are attached in a very cheap and weak way, do I'm afraid other keys will fall, although I'm no hard typist

Looking at the second picture - do the tabs on the bottom of the key match up with the metal tabs on the top of the socket? And one of those tabs broke off? It's hard to tell from the picture what the broken part on the upper right looked like. The upper left looked broken to me. :) That's too bad because that's a pain to try and repair yourself.

I think they match, but at the moment the key does not sit there right and just jumps out. The strange thing about this is that I did not any hard pressure on this key, the number nine key not something that you type very often. When the key jumped out this metal thing was already bent so I just broke it finally when trying to put it back. I'll take the computer to service center so let's see whether the rep will handle it within warranty, otherwise I feel the full keyboard replacement is to be paid, which seems to be an expensive thing

my tab key popped the other day but it was still held in it slot so I was still able to put it back firmly. I will bring mine in for repairs since I'm afraid the tab key will fall out soon and they might not honor the warranty. My capslock is also misaligned. If it was just the capslock then I can live with it knowing how it is a pain to go to the service centere and explain yourself. But with the tab key doing this, I knew I had to bring it in for repairs.

I wonder if there are many of us who had jumping and popping keys issue, how often this a case for ux302

edit: just went to the store where i bought my ux302lg, the techguy there made a short investigation after that they made a replacement, got another one ux302lg. As he says they never faced such key pop-up case, so i hope it will not happen again. BTW the techguy said that in this model it is possible to change keyboard just the plastic piece w/o changing whole aluminium upperbody, don't know if it's really possible.
Now on this new laptop i'm kinda afraid to hit the keys fearing that they will jump out again))

My 128gb mSata arrived today. I got it installed. So here is my setup: 128gb mSATA is my primary and is running Windows and I have a 1TB drive for all my data.

Hi, anyone facing keyboard warp? Are there ways go bend it back to a flat surface? My keyboard seems to have a bump at the lower space keys there. It's very annoying tho.

I had a similar issue where my capslock and tab keys are not aligned properly. The right shift key also doesn't press down evenly. I brought it to the Service Center and they fixed it in about 10 minutes. I was told the keyboard wasn't replaced so I guess they just bent the keyboard panel back. It looks and feels fine now.

Now I have tried, and it works. I bought the Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB (external drive) which is to my knowledge the only 2tb drive at 9.5mm thickness with SATA 3 connector. I extracted it from the external bay and placed it in the UX302LA. By removing the original hard drive skid it just slips in place, being hold thightly by the back lid. In combination with an mSATA 128gb half size (mini) the UX302 covers most of my ultrabook needs :)

I'm wondering, is there an UX302LG with NORMAL screen out there?
Mine is perfectly fine except the screen.

Here how it looks in a dark room. Acually quite annoyning, since i work a lot in Photoshop, and the upper corners bleed can be seen even in a moderately lit room, if i'm working with a dark image, which requires full brightness, to see all details.

What do you think guys, is this amount of bleeding normal or no?

Mozgan: I guess you have better one. I have much worse. And many and many another problems with it. After third reclamation I found next annoying problem today and I give up. I will return it to seller and I am considering to buy UX32LN... It hasn't got so cool design, but I don't need touchsreen and UX32LN has better CPU (i7 vs. i5) than UX302LG which are available in my region and it's also cheaper than LG (over $250). So maybe it will be better configuration for me... but still, I am in love with UX302LG and I can't understand why Asus cannot pay more attention to the their quality of output...

Assuming you have Expresscache installed from the drivers:

1.) Open an elevated command prompt and type diskpart.

2.) type "list disk" (note the drive number of the Cache SSD).

3.) type "select disk n" (n= the drive number found above)

    4.) type "clean"

    5.) type "exit"

6.) Now that you are back to the normal command prompt, lets navigate to the ExpressCache directory. Do this bytyping "cd C:\Program Files\Condusiv Technologies\ExpressCache\"

7.) type "ECCmd -partition" (this tells ExpressCache to use the whole SSD drive)

8.) Your DONE! to confirm that it is working, you can type "ECCmd -info" and ensure that it starts showing you some caching statistics.

I'm pretty sure it's on the Asus website. It might be under win 8 instead of 8.1. If not, you can get it from SanDisk.

I found the software on Asus website. I had to type "ECCmd -partition 1" in order for it to work. I did not notice any performance improvement as I already changed the HDD to a SSD so I guess I can remove it. Anyway thank you for the info because I could not find it anywhere

Oh, yeah, it won't do anything if you have an ssd already. Heck, it might slow it down. The cache drive is nowhere near as fast as today's ssds. Just format it and use it as a spare storage drive. Maybe use it to mirror your important documents or dual boot ubuntu.

Do you think the 250gb SSD I have in here would fit in the ASUS UX302?? I'm a bit new to this stuff....sorry if it's an obvious question.

I deleted power4gear personally. I find it annoying how it would change my plan when it felt like it. 90 percent of the time, I keep it on high performance and for long days without power I use a modified Power Saver profile to where I turn the max cpu down to 95 percent. This little laptop gets pretty good battery life considering the size.

I deleted power4gear too. I just turned everything down in battery mode. Works really well. As long as I'm not playing games I get like 5+ hours.

Here's a question: In power options, does anyone know what "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Settings" are and what they do? Subcategories are "Power Limit" and "Acoustics Limit" and the options are levels from 1-5. Which is lowest power and which is highest?

I would guess no. You could break off the top half of the adapter and it would fit fine, but I think the m.2 drive would still clash with the fan. At the very least, you would have to tape it on top of the fan but you might have trouble getting the lid back on. Full size msata is out of the question - I tried it.

Hey Guys, I bought a UX302LG in January, and instantly noticed three dead pixels on my screen. I called Asus who held onto it for two months, before returning it unfixed, as the part had not arrived yet. After another two months, they called again to say the part had arived, and I sent the laptop to get it fixed, now with seven dead pixels. And today it has returned, with a dead pixel free screen. My laptop also has minor backlight bleeding, which can only be seen when turned on, but annoyingly has a spacebar which squeaks whenever pressed. Does anyone have a solution to this, as Asus said this was normal, and did not need fixing?

    Hi!

    I own a UX302LA now for a month.
    Absolutely nice Ultrabook.

NowI plan to install Ubuntu but am very confused how to install it,
as I read about problems with EFI and Raid0.
Further i want to install it as dualboot with Windows 8.1.

Did someone manage to install ubuntu without major problems? Is there a tutorial to follow?

    Thank you very much!!!

    Hi,
    I bought my UX302LA - i7 Intel 4400 about 3 Months ago.
Swapping the HDD with a Samsung 830 SSD 256GB went flawlessly. Since the I really enjoyed the nice style and quality of it.
It didn't even have any Defective pixels or too much of a backlight bleed.

Today, after cleaning the screen and looking closely on it, I noticed some smaller and bigger black dots on the right side of the screen.

In total there are 8 black dots on the screen. They don't really seem to be actual Defective pixel, because when you look closely the dot's are not on the 2nd "pixel panel" but on the first panel. It's really hard to describe this situation.

Could it be dust? What do you suggest me to do?

If they are really defective pixels, will Asus replace the Notebook for me? (I also bought an additional warranty for one more year)

They would likely replace the display. It would be very difficult for dust to get into the layers of the panel.

To check if it's a dead pixel, place the pixel in your mouse pointer like you have in the picture. Then look from 150ish degrees from the right and left. If the pixel migrates towards the edges of the arrow, it's not a dead pixel.

In case anyone's interested, Asus are already working on a successor for the UX302, called the UX303LN.

I've got my hands on a pre-production version of the UX303LN (copre i7-4510U, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD, Nvidia 840M graphics, 3200 x 1800 px screen) and I've shared my early impressions in this post : Asus Zenbook UX303LN - initial impressions - waiting for your questions . I'll have a more in depth article ready in a few days, but in the meantime, if you have any questions about this laptop, shoot :) I'll have it till Monday, after that it's going back to Asus.

I don't know anything about a UX301 follow-up for now, but I'd expect it to at least get the updated Haswell CPUs, if not a more thorough update

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the review. Would love to know pricing (for the US) if possible.
