Cool, can't wait to see the review. Couple questions. Have you tried calibrating the colors with a colorimeter? That should fix the murky yellows. You should also be able to manually adjust the colors in Intel graphics settings. Apple tends to oversaturate their colors so you might see some better results if you try that. Also, can you see any backlight bleed on the screen with a black screen in a dark room?

You can download them from SanDisk

Edit: Link is on the right: http://www.sandisk.com/products/ssd/sata/readycache/?capacity=32GB

i have used that version but the setup doesnt detect the sandisk ssd.
it exits at the point where it needs to check whether the ssd is sandisk u100 or not.
basically i need the OEM version of expresscache which Condusiv provides to Asus and other OEMs.

    thanks

If you think it is the same ExpressCache software used on all OEMs, you can try and download the one from Samsung, using the steps in this post (but ignore the part about Samsung Settings). It works for both Win7, Win8 and Win8.1 -- at least on samsung laptops.

You have to download Samsung's SW Update utility from here, which should run on any PC (not just Samsungs).

Samsung stopped posting drivers on their website long ago, so the latest you will find there is version 1.0.86. There are newer versions directly from Condusiv, but they don't work on Samsungs -- and I gather not an Asus laptops either.

It's worth a try. Of course you can uninstall SW Update after this.

Has anyone found a skin or case to protect (the aluminum parts on) their UX301/UX302 from scratches?

I have a Phantom Skinz kit on my UX31A, and am looking for something similar for the UX301/UX302:

    Zenbook - Imgur

I couldn't find anything online, but I did contact Phantom Skinz and Ghost Armor. They both said they can design a kit if someone sends in their laptop to do the design process with, would anyone on here be willing to do that?

The only other option I found is this vinyl decal on Amazon, but I would prefer a clear skin if possible:

Amazon.com: Decalrus - ASUS Zenbook UX301LA with 13.3" Touchscreen FULL BODY BLUE Texture Brushed Aluminum skin skins decal for case cover wrap BAFBzenbkUX301LABlue: Cell Phones & Accessories

    Hi guys,

I was one of the first to post in this thread when I got my UX302LG, the thread has helped me a lot, and I hope I contributed a bit as well.

But now I've got TROUBLE!!! I need help!

I installed a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, (cloned my HDD with the samsung software).

After starting, the CPU is stuck at 40-50%. It burns through my battery in about 45 minutes. No one process is high, they're all between 3-4% each. I've rebooted many times, trying all manner of settings changes in the "Samsung magician" software, but doesn't help.

I'm desparate for some ideas to try out.

    Thanks,
    Weedfin

I just cloned from the HDD to a 1 TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD 4 hours ago and it works fine. No high CPU utilization and no BSOD (so far). Cloned using Easeus todo backup free 6.5 and I did not have to fix anything after switching to the SSD. Even my VHD boot was cloned and is working fine (dual boot using original Windows 8.1 (home) installed + windows 8.1 enterprise on a VHD). I played dota 2 on the Win 8.1 home and I did not encounter issues.

May I suggest you use the easeus to clone? Use the disk clone option.

Hi, I just received this laptop and I've noticed that the middle metal casing of the keyboard rises a bit compared to the rest of the exterior

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/v0r6xuewgebx21e/0608140130.jpg

notice how the metal in the middle of the keyboard is flush with the keys wheras elsewhere it is significantly below the keys

I've tried to depress this but it just pops right back up; is this a common issue or a manufacturing deformity?

It's likely the keyboard under bowing slightly.

if it's easy to claim warranty for you then bring it to the Asus Service Center. I had a similar issue, although the affected keys were different, and it took them 10 minutes to fix the keyboard.

Hello everybody! I am an owner of a UX302LG and I have the impression that my miniSSD stopped working.
I say that because the quick start up/and hibernate, now takes longer time than before(it feels like three times the time) and also the temperature rises 10 degrees more, which I suspect that it means my HDD is working more...

What's your opinion? Do you think that it's something else's fault? Is there a way to check that my mini SSD cache is working properly?

    Thanks in advance

Ah you are the same guy from crucial forum...well no such luck for me I am stuck with m500(a 480gb one no less) an interesting thing to note is that same m500 actually performed great on my other laptop, ASUS UX32LN, which is almost the same thing except for the more advanced graphics card
    This is so weird...

might be some chipset issue. Mine was working fine on an older dell latitude e6320 as well but I had to replace that with this UX302 (don't ask :))
    I still have the M500 but it's in a USB 3.0 enclosure.

Yea I did a little measuring, ux302 SD card slot depth is comparable to a mbp 13 in retina(ux302 is a little shallower) so I might try a jetdrive lite 330, shouldnt have an issue with recognizing the drive should it, if not then I'd just call it an expensive lesson...

Speaking of that leap of faith, if anyone got the SSD variant and wanted a little more storage space, transcend jetdrive lite 330(64GB) can very well work for you

Interesting they target those just at MACs but I guess those are linked up using pci express rather than USB.

I would say that they targeted Macs because they are a more obvious target?(non upgradeable hard drive) and the fact that spec-wise they have a much smaller range of products thus less dimension"s", imagine making several for asus, several for acer, so on and so forth...

    Thanks for the answer.

I went to the bios and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

BUT, strangely after 5 days of slow start up and return from hibernate, now the computer starts in normal time. So, it got fixed by itself in a way. Still, I want to find why everything happened, so I can prevent it from happening again..

The problem that still remains is the overall rise of temperature.

Everything was working perfectly in the few days I've used it before the windows update. So I don't think it has anything to do with the ram compatibility.

There will be a key shortcut to get to the recovery menu or manually restart it in the middle of loading.

None. Others have been doing it for years. The heat is not that hot when compared to the 15" rMBP and the razer blade, which have the same cooling path

So I've sent my laptop to the service center who diagnosed it to be the hdd that is faulty and has changed the hdd for me.

After the previous experience, I'm a little apprehensive of updating my windows os again. Does anyone have a fully functional ux302lg laptop with the latest Windows 8.1 update 1 os?

I got this BSOD: system_service_exception after I've updated. What could be a cause for it?

I also have the problem of wifi not working after the laptop is put to sleep. It shows that the wifi is connected but none of the pages can load until I've restarted it.

Yes, the wifi came back on after I've disabled and re-enabled the wireless adapter. Is there a solution to that?

And today another issue surfaced. When I switched on and login to windows, the screen below appeared:
    2014-06-30 18.58.28.jpg
Had a big scare as it persisted even after I shut it down and rebooted it as I thought I've lost everything again. It took me 3 restarts before it started normally again. What's going on?

There was some kind of misread of data from the system drive.
Maybe it's time to run memtest first to verify memory integrity, and then surface scan for the system drive if it's a HDD.
