Basically, download the ISO file, burn it onto a CDR or DVDR disc.
Or you can elect to use USB flash drive method as well.

Hi all. I have had the UX302LA for quite some time now. I have been wanting to upgrade the HD and RAM, and am going to do so soon.

First of all, I LOVE my Zenbook! Best laptop I've ever had. Slick, stylish, light, and fast.

I had a spare 4GB PC3 12800 RAM stick, and tried it in place of the 2GB original stick. Mr Zenbook did not see the RAM at all, and only showed the 2GB onboard. I have heard that with RAM the Zenbooks are picky... Can someone point me to an amazon link for a RAM stick that is KNOWN to be compatible? I don't want to have to deal with returns and all that, I want the right parts first time around.

Also some questions about the hard drive. Does anyone know if this supports SATA III at 3GB/s or does it support SATA drives that go the 6GB/s speeds? I'm looking at getting a 250GB/256GB SSD drive, samsung or intel brand. I have an intel SSD 120GB in my desktop that has performed great for 2 years now with heavy use, so I kind of trust Intel.... Undecided on if i'll go with Samsung or Intel. Will any SSD work or is Mr Zenbook picky with the user's choice of hard drive as well?

One last thing, I have looked everywhere online and can not find any other compatible WiFi/Bluetooth cards that will work in this. I see that Mr Zenbook takes a different kind of newer card "NGFF - M2" form factor. The card it came with (Intel 7260NGW) has lower standards than i expected, but can live with. It does not pick up as good a signal as some other mini pci cards ive used in previous laptops, and the bluetooth range is NOT GOOD at all if you ask me. I can have it streaming music to another PC thru bluetooth and 5 feet away, music starts breaking up. When I tie my cellphone to the other computers bluetooth (HP usb BT adapter), it plays music from 30+ feet away! Also, Having issues sending pictures via BT to Mr Zenbook lately, not sure what that issue is all about. ANYWAYS, there are absolutely no other wireless card choices in this new form factor, literally none. Am I stuck with this card? I would replace the mPCI 32GB SSD cache with a WiFi card (after main SSD upgrade of course), but it looks like the antenna connectors will not reach. Any Suggestions? I know many users on here seem to like the included WiFi card but for me its been giving issues on and off. Updating drivers did not help.

Thanks for reading, any suggestions would be appreciated!

The UX302LG comes with the Intel 7260.NGWWB. It should be interchangeable with the UX302LA model. Your Ram must be DDR3L. DDR3 will fit but is too high of voltage to work with Haswell. Check the UX302LG Owners lounge OP for a list of chips that are known to work. For SSD, any will work except Crucial. They have a known incompatibility issue. I would use Samsung - they are both reliable and have good software support. Evo is a good and fairly inexpensive model.

Why can't I find a seller for the UX302 with 8GB RAM and SSD even though Samsung advertises this configuration on their homepage?

The same limitations apply. I was only able to find 1 variant of the ux302lg with a us keyboard. There were no other models. Just buy what you can and install your own ssd.

    Hello everyone,

This is my 1st post here.
1st of all, let me start off by saying how much i have benefited from this forum. NO reviews ever mention anything about keyboard warp or back light bleed or any other issues effecting users everyday.

Anyway i have had UX302LA for about 2 weeks now and i am absolutely loving it (bought it from John Lewis UK). By far the best laptop i have owned. Fortunately mine does not have any keyboard warp and back light bleed isn't as bad as some i have seen here. And thank god it came with windows 8.1 pre installed. After seeing so many users having upgrade issue, i don't think i would ve even tried.

After 2 weeks playing with it, i though its time to give it an upgrade. so i ordered crucial 8GB DDR3 PC3-14900 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V and
Crucial MX100 512GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal SSD directly from crucial. I have used their system checker tool and They guarantees compatibility. In any case, if any or none of them works, i can always send it back.

Now i have a few questions regarding the upgrade, if anyone kind enough to answer them

    1. everyone seems to have 16gb SSD cache drive but my system shows 24gb. Are UK models different from US models?

    2. Since I am getting a SSD drive, how can i disable cache drive such a way that if i ever have to send it back, i can active it quite easily? on 2nd pic, if i unchecked both of these options, will this do the trick?

    3. what file system does the cache drive uses? i would like to use it to store music only if its easy enough to revert back to original cache settings.

    4. I am planing on using Acronis True Inage 2014 (comes free with SSD) to clone HDD, has anyone else used it?

hope i am not asking too many questions on my 1st post.

    Thanks in advance.
    any help will be appreciated.

Not to rain on your parade here, but there seems to be known compatibility issues between the crucial drives and UX302(feel free to correct me if I am wrong)
I had a M500 480gb SSD and it didn't work on my ux302(it also said conpatible using the checker tool on their site), so better make double sure mx100(find someone who's done it successfully)

thanks for the advice. A lot of previous posts talk about compatibility issue with M500. I cant seem to find anything on MX100, so i took a leap of faith. Hope it pays off or else sending it back.

Also can some1 tell me how to make the cache drive to use as a storage drive?
Does the UX302 use both intel RST and expresscache? or just one of them?

    many thanks in advance

Expresscache. Just disable it and format the drive. It's slow but faster than the hdd.

How do I disable it? Can you please describe a little. Sorry if its obvious.
    Again Thanks in advance.

Also I have just upgraded my HDD to Crucial MX100 512GB. Cloned it using Acronis True Image 2014 (comes free with MX100). Took me a few hours to copy everything over. Whole cloning and upgrading process was easier than I expected. I was pretty sure MX100 is not compatable, and will through me tons of errors, windows probably wont book up. Interesting enough, I dont think my pc can even tell i swapped drive...lol.

While at it, I also upgraded my 2gb ram module with Crucial Ballistix 8GB DDR3 PC3-14900. Cant remember where i read in this thread, that the soldered ram is faster than non soldered one. its ture!

Is it possible to fix the keyboard warp? Mine has pretty significant warp or raising near the G, H, V, and B keys and also a few other keys are crooked. Should I just return it to best buy and hope they can find me another one? All the stores near me list the product as unavailable.

So far my only main issue the Keyboard warping, minor backlight bleed (not too big an issue), and the screen is very reflective when I work in the office under bright lights.'

Edit- I just went and exchanged it at a local store, (they had 1 new box left) and i got one with less bleeding and no warped keys! I'm happy now, now my only complaint is the reflection under direct light i wonder if i a matte screen protector will solve this.....

Has anyone done the option of upgrading the mini sata drive and booting from that and just making the 500g hdd storage only? If so what steps did you take to achieve this. (sorry if this has been asked before, I only found people upgrading the HDD to a SSD and leaving the msata alone or taking it out)

It's the same as any other computer. Just insert the drive and install Windows onto it. You can select the boot drive in the bios. If you don't have a Windows DVD, you can make one or clone the partitions. If you clone, you have to shrink the OS partition first.

Anyone here experiencing problems with the fastboot on windows 8.1? I keep encountering BSOD during start up when I have fastboot enabled and the problem seems to go away after disabling fastboot.

Do you think it is a software or a hardware problem? How can I resolve it?

    Thanks in advance!

Hey guys! I recently reinstalled windows 8.1 on the ux302, now in the sata configuration I cannot find nor select RAID. It is only currently set at AHCI.

How to enable raid for this ultrabook? do I need to install a raid driver or something? if so please link. Thanks

My ultrabook was the 16g msata ssd cache and 500gb hd, at factory setting it cached the ssd but after I reinstalled everything it treated the ssd like an additional hard drive. Hence I thought it was raid at factory setting and right now I just want to cache the ssd using intel RST

No, you just need to run the express caching software that's in their driver list. Raid in the bios is for hardware raid, which usually means both drives need to be the same.

Oh right! sorry I read up that you needed to switch to raid in bios to use the ssd cache in intel rst so I assumed I had to. I downloaded the expresscache driver but how do I know if the ssd is caching? Is there a way to check. Thanks again

If you have any idea about to fix this I would be grateful, if not I thank you in advance for your fast response and help !

There's a post here with a similar issue and a possible solution: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...e-i-want-my-expresscache-back-edition-14.html

Also, maybe make sure your ssd is a SanDisk. I thought everyone's was but maybe yours is different.

Yeah I have checked using intel rst and it shows it is a SanDisk ssd. I tried everything in the book to get the eccmd -partition to work, running cmd as admin, installing expresscache drive, clean the msata using diskpart and it still pop up the error

Aha! I finally got it to work. I'm replying to my comment for others if they have the same problem I had.
I called up the ASUS hotline and they linked me this website:

Enabling ExpressCache on the Asus UX32A | Musings from a high place

I downloaded the expresscache.exe from there and I am guessing it works better than the one I got from other websites.
So in a nut shell I think the main problem I had was getting the correct expresscache driver/exe for my laptop.
I simply followed the instructions there and I can finally type ECCmd -info with the cache info.

Not only ASUS, but MSI as well.
System partition + Data partition, the point is to perform recovery onto C drive while leaving the D drive intact since you may have data on the D. In case you do not have an external hard drive for back up purposes.

Please also make sure to create recovery discs first before merging the partitions as one.

Use air compressor or compressed air can to clean it, but it's still better to take it apart to clean up.
Temperature ranges from 30 to 80 Celsius depending on loading/application.

Hi all, just received my Ausus UX302LG today....
What a great machine I can state so far !

All working well so far . OK that it had pre installed only Windows 8 not 8.1 cost me some hours for the updgrade ;(

One first question ( I am sure I will have some more)...
The Asus Drivers and Sofware updates - Do I have to look for them manually or is there a tool ? ( I have an MSI Desktop and there I have a tool )

    Thx and greets so far

As far as I know, port multiplying ended with Sandy bridge. You might be able to span the drives with that but raid won't work
