Oha ok Thx. I understood it the way , that the Laptop should recognize it as ONE device and the RAID is managed by this Adapter.... Maybe I give it a try - returning to Amazon is easy ;)

Good luck. I highly recommend spanning over raid. You won't get any of the speed advantages of raid but you'll get all the disadvantages. Also keep in mind you might lose trim support with that adapter. Let us know how it goes.

Ohh yes indeed the TRIM issue...

Well I am not looking for the Speed Advantage, which wont be much/there.. true - My idea was - how I can use my two 256 GB MSata divices and expand the Zenbook to 512 GB because the installed 156GB is a bit short for me... So I thought about a cheap solution ...

But with the Trim ...and other Raid Topics...mhhh.

Then I maybe will Need to wait and save some Money and buy a 512GB SSD...The Standard SSDs on the market (Crucial MX100 or Samsung 840 evo are working in the 302LG or any issues known here / advises ?
    Thx

Asus Instant ON Funktion / Software.
As per what I found the UX302LG should have this function or Software.
I can not find it being installed - Now I downloaded from Asus Webpage but when trying to install - it says that another Version is already installed and would Need to be removed first.... but as said - I can find it by Windows search or anywhere....

    Thx for any hint

Contact ASUS directly, most likely that they will let this go and will fix it under warranty.
In extreme cases where the DC jack pin is completely broken off then it's not covered under warranty.

Please note and keep care while the AC adapter is connected to your computer by providing sufficient slack for the cable so it does not stress the cable and DC jack too much.

I've had a UX302LA for a few months now and never have been able to get it to sleep by timing out with the lid open. It sleeps fine when the lid is closed. I've fiddled with all the power option setting and power plans with no luck. I updated to Windows 8.1 when I first got the computer so I don't know if it worked in Windows 8.
    Any ideas?

You can't bypass the igp as all the display outputs are connected to it.

    Hi,

Thanks for the explanation on how to upgrade this Zenbook. I recently bought this Zenbook and managed to perform a SSD and ram update by completely removing the bottom case, using the instructions on this movie: Asus UX302 RAM and SSD Upgrade Part 1 - YouTube (note: there is also a part 2).

Everything seems to be fine, the hardware is recognised and functional. However, I notice that the CPU fan spins up very quickly to a quite noisy level. Even if the Zenbook isn't performing that much work in my opinion. I use a dual boot of Arch linux and Windows 8.1. According to different sensor programs in Windows the temperature starts around 50 degrees Celsius. In Arch the temperatures lie between 40 and 45 degrees in 'rest'. As soon as I for example start up a google-chrome browser with just a google start page the fan spins up. The fan seems to jump on and off every minute.

I updated the bios and drivers to the latest.

In this thread I also read about notebook fan control programs, which seem to work fine, but I can hardly imagine that the Zenbook is supposed to constantly turn on and off the fan if you are just browsing 'simple' web pages.

Are others experiencing this behaviour too?

I'm having a problem with the Samsung SSD that I just installed as the BIOS refuses to acknolwdege its existence. However, if I boot to an Ubuntu install USB stick, it recognizes the SSD and allows me to install to it. The installation succeeds but upon reboot, I can't boot to the SSD because the BIOS doesn't know it's there. Has anyone else run into this issue and, if so, can you please tell me what you did to get past it?

TIA for any help in this matter.

    My Upgrade Odyssey:

I seem to have had a difficult upgrade. I added a 8 GB stick to go 10GB and a crucial mx100 512GB SSD.

I bought a apricron SATA Wire USB 3.0 to SATA 2.5 adapter. I tried to use the Acronis cloning software that comes with the crucial mx 100 but it would not work. Windows saw the uninitialized drive but Acronis kept reporting file system errors when I tried to clone the drive. I haven't seen anyone else reporting this.

Fortunately, the SATA wire came with another cloning program, EZ Gig IV that did work. Suitably cloned, I proceeded.

I had the expected trouble opening the case. Those T5 torx screws are really small! I replaced the DIMM and pulled the battery to remove the HDD. Re-assembled everything and the system would not power on at all. I "undid" everything and the system still would not power on. I didn't think I did anything wrong, so I "re-did" the upgrade taking special care with the battery and the battery to motherboard cable, made sure all the screws were tightened well, (by now my cheap harbor freight t5 bit was shot and I was using a small slotted screw driver on the T5 screws) and this time it powered on. I don't really know I did wrong the first two times.

BTW, the metal edges on the bottom cover are pretty sharp. I sliced my finger on the second case cracking. So now my motherboard is personalized with DNA and artistic blood staining.

A half-hour job, ended up taking two hours, but everything seems to be working well. The SSD really does make a huge difference. You really notice it boot times. It makes hibernation a possibility again.

Does anybody have any idea what would prevent the system from powering on? I assume the next time I'll be cracking the case will be in a couple years when the battery goes...

    Good luck to all upgraders.

Some sort of short or the ram not quite seated right could have done it. Static build up can cause funny issues too.

Thanks for this guide, I just got my UX302LG few weeks ago and wanted to Undervolt the hardware components,

May I know what tools did you use to UnderVolt the CPU, GPU and Cache?

I try to use RMClock but it looks like the application is too old to handle latest laptop.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Cheers

It seems like the battery life on my UX302LA has gotten worse over time. Will an SSD upgrade help significantly? What about a battery replacement since it seems removable?

Switching to a SSD will not help much with battery life, because the battery itself is worn so you will need to replace the battery eventually.

Yes since it's a small fraction of the battery it saves then on a warn battery the difference will be equally diminished.

I just upgraded to an SSD drive.
Do I remove the mSata Drive?
    Disable the mSata caching?
    Leave it alone?

Everything appears to be working fine. Just want to get the best performance from my new SSD drive.

You don't have to if you want to use it as secondary drive.
Disable the caching since you are already using SSD.

I assume I just need to enter "eccmd -exclude c:" from an elevated command prompt to disable.
    Is that correct?

No, The speed seems the same with the SSD cache disabled.
The mSata drive has slower read/write speeds than the SSD drive I installed so I expected by removing the bottleneck I would notice a speed increase when I disabled it.
BTW When I increased the RAM to 10GB I noticed a huge speed increase. I tested by stitching a Pano in Photoshop and it took 12+ minutes with 4GB of RAM and less then 3 minutes with 10GB!

Each SATA device has its own channel so one will not bottleneck the other.

There is a limit in the end but you need 4 devices to reach it and that's 1700MB/sec until that point you are good ;) so in this case not really applicable.

Guys i have discovered a bug n the BIOS of the ux302la. I am running the latest bios update

Disabling fastboot in BIOS actually enables fastboot. When my fastboot was on i could spam esc key to enter the boot menu Now with it disabled i can access the boot menu and my Asus logo flashes for a second before going to the login screen

Seriously guys try it and profit

    Hello,
after almost a year with almost no problems I encountered another one:

My headphone jack broke and now I am unable to get external sound besides using a usb sound card.
Can I fix this problem myself? Does anyone know where to get a "new" headphone jack which I then could solder on the mainboard?

You can get all styles of jack but you may be better off taking it to a local repair shop who specialise in solder jobs (if you have no warranty left) as they should be able to source bits and fix it.

    Hi
I have a ux302la which is dog slow so thinking of upgrading ram and ssd but just need one of you more experienced guys to confirm I am on the right lines...
I have 4gb of ram on board so do I need (to replace the existing) 8gb DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM?
Regarding replacing the hdd with ssd, was looking at 500gb Samsung evo 850 sata3.

Is this a straight replacement? Can anyone direct me to a guide for switching storage? I am on Windows 10 so assume will need to back up and restore to the ssd?
    Thanks in advance. Happy Christmas

I installed a SSD and upgraded RAM in my ux302la. The SSD did not improve performance much. The RAM upgrade made a huge improvement. I removed the 2GB RAM and installed a 8GB stick for a total of 10GB. DDR3L 1600 MHZ SDRAM is correct. I tried installing Win 10 on my machine and wound up going back to Win 8. The trackpad stopped working, MS Office didn't work, iTunes didn't work, etc.
If you install a SSD I would recommend making an image of your old drive using Macrium Reflect. I have been using Reflect for years and it makes switching drives very easy.
