will email you the iso's if you like.....
-
Thanks, that worked
-
Thanks, ma7ija.
Can anyone tell me how do I identify the type of trackpad and SSD used in the UX31?
I know ma7ija said I can check the box, but is there any other method for the SSD and the trackpad also? -
isnt the iso over 4GB+?
I would love to get the iso if it's downloadable. -
lol, i didnt mean as an email attachment, i meant as a download link.
will place it on a server and post the link some point tomorrow. -
I don't think there is any way to tell about the trackpad unless you turn on the power. The hdd you can tell from the side of the black box which is inside the brown case, so you have to open one of the cases.
-
Thanks, leggy.
So, is there that much of a difference between the trackpads..? From what I can gather, the SSD makes a big difference, but it was to discern from this thread whether the trackpad difference was vastly noticeable or not.
I apologise for the multiple questions, but £1000 is a lot of money to me to be spending in one go, so I would like to be absolutely sure.
Also, that rumour about Asus re-releasing the UX31 can't be true, can it..? -
Dear all,
I've just move here from the UX31E lounges because that thread is almost dead.
I have a issue which i want to post over here. Actually it's theonetheonly's question but i have the same concerns:
Regarding to my issue, i still cannot figure out which bloadware i could remove, and which i have to keep for maintenance. Any one please give me an advice.
Moreover, i've been dealing with a weird issue since my zenbook's arrival. Like other normal users, i went straight to Asus's support page to download all latest components for my Zen as soon as i received it. But the page which lists driver and downloads cannot be scrolled vertically, as a result, i can only interact with the first 4-5 categories (EMI and safety, BIOS, BIOS Utilities, Chipset, Audio, VGA). It even becomes worse when i try to expand these options, they simply spread out of sight and i cannot see anything other than my 1-page-height vision. I tested with all kinds of browser, including IE9, Firefox, Chrome... This page is paginated perfectly on my other laptops using same connection. What's wrong with my Zen??? Very weird.
Another small annoying issue is the "auto-Brightness" as someone mentioned in this thread. The screen increases and decreases brightness level freely without any reasons like it have a light sensor (which is obviously nonsence). And the brightness is hard to control. I tested it with Warcraft III. In game, i set to a high brightness level, but everytime i alt+tab to switch to desktop and switch back into the game, the screen is become much darker and only stop when i set it again. You may be noted that the in-game brightness level DO remain unchanged, all i have to do is just clicking right on the sliding button (which theorically won't change anything). Any one have an idea?
Thank you! -
I have not used Elantech touchpad on the Zenbook so I can not judge how much better it is from Sentelic. Mine is Sentelic and it is not good even after updating the bios and installing the updated driver from Asus website and because of that I will return mine.
If you are certain that you can return the laptop within certain period of time without paying restocking fees then go ahead and order one and if you are dissatisfied then return it. -
If the sticker on the box shows sandisk it will have an Elantech pad. Sandforce is paired with the Santelic pad.
-
That is not true. I have sandisk with sentelic pad. There is no rule that the drive brand tells what pad is inside.
-
So, how do you actually check what track pad brand you have?
(I know this will be a total novice question to most, but forgive me, I've never had to check things like this before.) -
Go to control panel, click on mouse, and one of the windows will show the brand.
-
some one please answer my question 5 posts above ?
-
Your Asus page problem is not linked to your notebook, but to the specific page you try to load: try to access it through another asus page, and you will be able to upload it. e.g. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Pilotes et téléchargements UX31E
-
The problem with asus page is not that unsolvable. I can easily download drivers on other machines and do manual installation on my Zen (though this process is totally ridiculous with a "high-end" laptop). The more serious problem is the one with my Warcraft game. It always messes the brightness level of the game up whenever i switch out from and in to game. I think the display driver is defective, although it's the latest.
What's happening with this beautiful machine? -
Asus UX31E Original ISO for restore are available here
REMOVED !
You have to download each part then unzip with winrar, that both CD.
Note this is from a UK versions 128GB adata with corei7 and the santelic touchpad, but assume they will work for all.
Of course no warranty or guarantees exists and use at your own risk.
/////////////////////////////////////
***My loverly hosing company have got upset about me hosting rar files. So I have had to take the ISOs down. If anyone wants them please PM me and I will send via another method. **** -
I also found that you can use VGA and HDMI at the same time, as long as you disable the internal screen.
problem is that the included asus mini vga adaptor is so big and the ports so close together they dont fit well.
so the hunt is on for a smaller vga to vga adaptor. -
That will be sweet and thank you so much for helping me out.
downloading now. CD1 part1 is still being uploaded? -
yes, part 1 will be finished in 10 mins
-
Thanks. downloading as well.

Just bought one today from the Microsoft Store. Has the "Microsoft Signature" setup - they add some of their stuff and delete most of the crap. Mine also gives me the missing Recovery partition message. So I played a bit. While its not the same as having a backup available, I found that holding the F9 key down while booting will bring up the "Microsoft Signature PC Restore Tool" - effectively restoring it to the basic signature. You can cancel out, of course, and it will wipe out everything you've added, etc.
-
The "Microsoft Signature" Zenbook I got recently was missing a touchpad driver (thanks, Microsoft?) so I couldn't tell at first glance. From there it's mostly a process of elimination - if the Sentelic driver won't install, then Elantech is it, and vice versa. Appeared to be Elantech for this one. Seems to work great.
Not sure if any other drivers were missing (the laptop wasn't for me). -
So, it appears I'm going to "have" to purchase a Sandisk UX31 (if I do indeed go for it). Is the drop in performance that noticeable..?
-
I got my UX31 exchanged thru Microsoft, this new one has three partitions. One is the C: which only has 87GB and the other two partitions are 147GB and 8GB. now, all of the 147 and 8GB partitions shows it's 100% empty. which one can I safely delete? 8GB seem reasonable for recovery partition. but I am still afraid that I may killed the recovery partition.
-
I have notice that, but I want a hard copy just in case, or to wipe out that hidden partition.
Mine comes with Sandisk and first time Crystal Bench sequential read is over 480mb/s and now is around 450mb/s after few days use. Is that a concern?
It's lighting fast. Love my ux31e -
I have a problem which might be similar to yours. Whenever i switch from a dark sence, like Asus Vibe, to a white page like a web site or MS Office doc, the screen brightness will be a little darker as per my brightness setting. After 1~2 secs it will slowly brighten up to my setting level on its own. I don't have to do anything.
Further testing reveals this only happens when on battery. It will not occur if on mains.
I cannot understand how this occurs and which setting controls this. -
Seems mine is worse than yours, while the level of brightness does not increase by any means unless i tune it myself. But, it's definitely error of the machine because the slide button in brightness option menu (talking about Warcraft in-game menu) is STILL at its position. I have to do NOTHING except clicking right on the button (not move it) and the brightness will magically goes up to desire level. So so so weird!
Btw, check your pm please mr anhyeuem
-
My apology to everyone if i use a little bit of my native language here. I want to pm anhyeuem but the forum does not allow this function. So i post here and wish that it would not mess up this thread.
Thank you
-
sorry bro for some reason i couldn't access my PM. Says error due to adminstrator...
bloatwear i hv uninstalled the Life Frame, Power4Gear, Zenbook Screen saver, PowerWizand recovery partition after creating the recovery disks.
So far so good, Zenbook does not crash. Skype still able to access the webcam. Power options have to adjust through the intel default. -
sorry bro i just pick up my nick in a HCM karaoke bar!!! Me not native there Hahaha.
if u can get free replacement, why not? Maybe it will come with revised hardware and software since ppl are seeing new part model for it.
afterall you have paid so much for it.
-
You need five quality posts to be able to access the private message system. Don't worry, anhyeuem will have them soon enough.
You can use your native language as long as a translation is provided. It doesn't have to be an exact translation, as long as we can understand the gist of it. -
A friend of mine recently picked up a UX31 and is having some problems with the brightness of the display. When the computer boots and the welcome screen comes up, the display is very bright as would be expected from this laptop. However, within seconds after loading up the desktop, the display dims significantly. I have set all power settings for both plugged in and battery to 100% brightness through the control panel, but have had no luck. I have also set the computer to prevent it from going to sleep or from activating a screensaver.
Simply put, despite the brightness level being at 100%, the actual display is pretty dim and pictures look dark. I have also tried using the monitor calibration settings. My thoughts are that something may be wrong with the ACPI or the OSD, but I am unsure. Is there anything in the registry that needs changed?
Thanks for the help. -
Hi, back in November I wrote:
Nobody had replied and I've looked for photos online but not come up with a photo of everything plugged in.
And does anyone find it an issue and think my elbow pass-thru idea would be beneficial to them? -
Ok sorry bro. I only asked him as if he's Vietnamese like me, then asked him to contact me if possible. You know, it's much more comfortable to explain technical problems in mother tongue. But poor me, he's not native
My display problem seems kinda weird and cannot be solved
-
Don't worry about it, it's written somewhere in the forum rules, but not everyone reads those when they join. Personally, i speak mainly french, but i do find english easier for tech problem, more used to tech terms in english.
Regarding your display issue, if you mean the brightness changing on it's own, that looks like a driver or settings problems. I'd take a close look at your power plan settings, i didn't read through the whole threads so my apologies if this has been suggested already. -
I've already tested it on both battery saving and high performance power plan. No matter what i'm on, the brightness always goes haywire. I've also double-checked to be sure that my display driver is up to date.
What should i do now? Should i reinstall the driver? Or should i upgrade the BIOS (because mine is 206, and the newest is 209, but ppl are often afraid of flashing BIOS including me) -
Disable power4gear hybrid as a good start.
Use a standard windows plan. -
Hi bro, you did the test on running on battery or mains? See if different power plans on different supply produces the same or not.
-
Did ASUS update the keyboards on the UX31 ?? I played around with the UX31 about a month before Christmas and was disappointed with the crummy keyboard flex. I just saw another UX31 in a Fry's today and the keyboard appears to be different. Whatever they did, they keyboard feels alot better and doesn't flex.
-
i find no keyboard flex.
the key travel is short, but its good when you get used to it. -
no flex here also
-
Does anyone have a screenshot they can post of the AS-SSD Bench and CrystalDisk Benchmark for the ADATA XM11 256GB SSD in the UX31e-DH72?
Thanks in advance. -
I though it my be interesting to others to see my UX31e running a multi monitor system.
UX31e and two 23" 1920x1080 displays in horizontal mode with arms.
and
UX31e with an additional Dell 27" U2711 screen in the middle.
Achieved using HDMI and 2 x USB to DVI adaptors. -
The 27" screen is running at 2248 x 1440@50hz. The maximum I can get the intel hd3000 to go to. I can also run 2560 x 2270@50hz. But not the full 2560x1440 which the screen supports.
-
impressive!
-
I have a few questions about the UX31 (I'm not really much of a computer guy so I don't get some of the jargon)
- What is meant by "travel". Like the travel is short or w.e
- I read that the i7 is only slightly faster than the i5. Is it worth the extra $$ for the i7?
- Has anyone tried using Photoshop CS5 and Sony Vegas on the UX31? Does it run well? (smoothly etc)
And lastly, and probably the most important question: Is there a new version coming out in 2012 sometime soon? Any details at all about it?
I'd like to see the second gen have all the issues fixed with a backlit keyboard, better screen (viewing angles), and maybe a media dock to use at home with a good to decent graphics card and more USB slots (kind of like what the Sony Z has). -
Travel is how far the key de-presses, when pressed. Too little travel can make a keyboard difficult to use. You cant have 15mm of travel and 9mm deep laptop.
I7 is signficant over I5. See cpulist website.
CS5 will run great on i5 or i7.
Viewing angle is fine, again this is a side effect of a very thin lid.
If the compromises of a very slim laptop are of concern simply buy a cheaper fatter laptop which has none of them.
For me 1.3kg and the thinness are worth a few slight compromises.
Think of it as the Lotus elise of laptops. -
That's what I'm thinking too. I prefer a lightweight notebook.
But I'm still going to wait for the second gen.
Thanks for the answers -
There's a thread about a Sony Z1 using Intel graphics and hdmi at 2560x1600x35Hz. Anyone know if the same thing will work with a UX31?
Thanks,
Miles
