You could order from ebay, i ordered a small screw driver kit from frozencpu when i ordered my IC diamond a while ago for the convenience, but they don't seem to have it anymore.

Note exactly? Check out(Read the fine print): ASUS ADP at a Glance
There are some retailers that are EXCLUDED from this warranty by their CHOICE to negotiate the products from ASUS for cheaper prices. (Theoretically giving the customer a "cheaper" price)
Sadly it looks like Microsoft is listed among those retailers. -
I stand corrected, thanks.

I've had my UX31 128GB SanDisk Elan for almost a week. I bought it at Best Buy and have 14-days to return for a full refund.
I knew when I bought it that it would have a SanDisk but the computer had just arrived at BestBuy and came with the latest drivers.
I've had one random restart. Not even a BSOD, just a restart while working in Firefox. No error log but it did try to boot in safemode.
I now have to decide if I want to keep the UX31 or return it. If I return it, I'll hold out and get the new Samsung Series 9 (2012). That's pretty sharp and is smaller and lighter than the UX31. But it is $400 more. I could take that same $400 and put it towards another Ultrabook later in the year and have a great newer model (and give my wife this one).
Should I keep the UX31? It has bee great other than having to reposition the screen many times to see it.
Hmmm.
Suggestions? Thanks. -
No worries, I think it is confusing that they allowed retailers to be excluded in the first place.
However, I believe you still get the standard manufacture's warranty (just not the ADP) -
Is anyone else having issues when returning from sleep-mode? At least one a day when I flip open the screen it's black and I am forced to restart by long pressing the power key. I have the latest bios and the latest 'instant-on' drivers.

Anyone wondering just how miserable the SanDisk 256GB disk is, here's my CrystalDiskMark output (and it doesn't have to do with current usage-- score was similar without data on the disk). See the write speeds.
My old Core 2 Duo MacBook Air (with 256GB SSD) blows this away in everyday usage, and it's even worse under heavy multitasking (which was my main reason for getting the UX31- I figured the i7 would help in situations where the C2D choked).
Even a 4200 rpm 1.8" hard drive would be more responsive in some cases. -
Hi
Does anyone have a problem with sound : my left speaker is louder than the right one ? -
Did you tried this:
-
to all the guys that have adata ssd? did your box have the sandforce driven sticker? like the one with bandana's post..just want to know if that is a real indicator for adata ssd?
-
A "pro" tool and hardware store will have the plug-in tips this size.
It's TORX size 5 on the back of the Zenbook. -
Both zenbook I have are adata and have the sanforce sticker on the box.

Downgrading the AHCI driver from 10.5.0.1026 to 9.2.0.1011 has had a mixed effect, mostly negative.

The webcam also stopped working a few days ago (driver shows up as before, but apps are unable to actually use it)- time to troubleshoot...

is asusparts.eu a scam
i ordered 6 weeks ago and no charger, more worryingly they wont respond to my emails. -
So I loaded CS5 and about 20 gig worth of .nef files taken with my Nikon D90.
CS5 takes all of about 3 seconds to load. Click on Bridge and it comes up in a second or two, click on a picture folder and the thumbnails populate in a second or two. Application of filters and other effects is very quick.
For me, the performance is outstanding and seems as fast as my desktop which is a 12g I7-950 w/SLI'ed GTX460's.
Nobody should be scared away by the Sandisk SSD.

I just got an open box UX31 and the restore partition is missing. Problem is that it blue screens every time it wakes from sleep. Can someone upload a recovery file? Any other advice to fix this? I did a clean win 7 install and it still happens.
-
I have had the UX31E-DH72 for a week now with i7 256GB Sandisk. I am very satisfied with the Zenbook. I type hard so the keyboard is not a problem. The ELAN track pad is not perfect but I have never been a huge fan of track pads. The i7 and SSD are very fast. I will definitely be looking to upgrade to the next generation of ZenBooks but for now the size and power are perfect for me.
Chris -
But Microsoft offers, for extra cash, some kind of protection plan that covers accidental damage for 2 years. I bought my Zen from them at 25% off, making it $1,100 so it wasn't too bad to add a two year policy for $200 (which included a license for Office which I intend to sell or give away.) Someone posted some much higher prices - like $1,900 - for the same unit (13in, I7,256GB.) You can buy the MS ADP policy for some time after original purchase. I suspect it doesn't cover opening the case, however.

I am a bit confused about the sh*ty trackpads. Which one Is better of the twos?
-
Starting to think the WEI is not that stable. I ran this test yesterday and got a 5.6 score on my SSD then I ran it today and got a 7.3 twice. I didn't change anything or do anything different except perform window updates and reboot. It's just a number but I am more concern about the touchpad.
-
sandisk or sandforce?
-
opppsss, i meant sanforce... doh
o updated my post.... -
the superior touchpad is the elantech one and the a-data versions have a sticker on the box saying it's sandforce driven
-
Does your desktop have an SSD?
The only SSD-like behavior I see in the SanDisk-equipped UX31 is the instant-on standby and boot time. Otherwise write performance is so poor that a hard drive might be a better idea. A year-old MacBook Air is literally 20x faster in 512K random writes, and it's very noticeable if you do a head-to-head.
The drive has very limited IOPS, and moderate to heavy multitasking brings it to its knees much more easily than any SSD I've used. My normal workload (3 browsers open with ~50 tabs total, Visual Studio, Office, Outlook, Acrobat, Zune, Office Communicator, Skype) can easily cause the machine to start stuttering and freezing (unlike my C2D MacBook Air on Win7, which is CPU- and RAM-limited but never freezes). -
So I just bought a webcam that requires you to install some software from a cd to get it to work. Does anyone have any idea on how I can install it in any other way, as the zenbook doesn't have a cd-drive?
-
Easiest way is to go to the manufacturer's website and download the driver/software online (that'll probably be a newer release than what's on the CD in any case).
If, for some reason, that's not an option, you can pop the CD into some other PC, copy the contents to a USB drive, and stick that into the Zenbook. -
Would people please list their purchase date, store name, and what SSD and touch pad model they received? Thanks.
-
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll give it a go, see if I can get this thing working.
Cheers! -
Yes, I have two SATA 2 SSD's in the desktop, an Adata and a Kingston. Both are slow by today's standard but considerably faster than my disks.
My normal Zen workload isn't has heavy as yours, Office (Word and Excell), Firefox with a dozen tabs open, Trillian, Acrobat and various other programs. There's no way I think the performance is worse than a disk, at least not the way I use it.
Bill -
Elan should be the better one.

Hi guys, I just gotten a new UX31 with Sandisk 256GB.
Can I check if it is possible to use desktop search engines such as Copernic desktop search on a solid state drive (SSD)?
Would indexing decrease the lifespan of the SSD?
Are there desktop search engines other than Copernic desktop search? I need to search document content (within pdf, docx, outlook emails, chm, zip, etc) as well. How does the Windows 7 search engine compare?
Thanks! -
Possibly a fluke, but i installed all latest updates from asus, and at some point my performance dropped 50% when tested with passmark.
i also developed a refusal to reboot/shutdown.
anyone else seen this. -
That's exactly what I noticed, hence I started to figure out what was the cause and I came to the conclusion it was the SSD driver. People here on the forum don't acknowledge this, so I seriously doubt the consistency of Asus.
Try to use the system restore to get back to an earlier time. Worked for me. -
yes, i did restore and went back to pre updates.
my updates did not affect the ssd performance, only cpu and shutdown/restart. -
thanks bro! this will help a lot..even if I have to find one abroad..
-
What is about the Elantech that makes it better then the Sentelic touchpad. I might return my ux31e-dh53 back to bestbuy and wait for them to come out with better touchpads. It's driving me crazy even after updating the Sentelic drivers. I might buy from Fry's since I would get that accidental coverage warranty since you have to buy it from best buy.

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for good pictures of the UX31, and not only the press one. Is there anyone here with "amateur" (lol) pics of the UX31?
Quite hard to find this ultrabook in France, it's a shame. What about "occasionnaly gaming" capabilities?
Thanks a lot guys.
Cheers from France. -
In relation to my post about a post update performance issue, this was caused by the selection of a battery saving profile that reduced maximum cpu performance to 60%. Once disabled it improved again.
-
It looks like less jumpy and acts better to finger movements however, some also complain about it saying its not that great but not sure if they are comparing it to MBA's touchpad or in general.
-
November 2011, NCIX Canada, Sandisk 256GB, Sentellic.

so the rose gold version will be released before v-day, maybe even as early as the first of february, which is great. however, numerous of pages state that it's going to be released with i5 instead of i7. what the hell is up with that?!
-
ASUS ZENBOOK? Rose Gold, the incredible Ultrabook?

I am about to return my zenbook back to BBY due to the trackpad intermittently not responding. I tried updating, down grading but I get the same thing.
I decided to bite the bullet and get the UX31E-DH72 from B&H Photo for $1398. I asked if they knew what kind of trackpad they had and they didn't know. So next week I shall see if I get the Elantech trackpad instead of the Sentelic.
Has anyone purchased from B&H Photo?
Thing that sux is I got the one from bestbuy for $1049 and waited all that time. -
Did you ever find a fix or the cause of the problem?
-
actually i know that it comes with the i7 as well but according the the sites i checked the i5 will be released in early feb. the i7 wasn't mentioned
-
Looks like Asus is marketing to the females. They get two colors. Actually 3 since they can go for the Silver version too.
I wouldn't mind a black version... -
I would wait til Asus ships out a new revised laptop in the coming months.
-
i'm a guy and i prefer the rose gold but a degradation is outrageous! hopefully they will come to their senses and release the i7 simultaneously
-
I want to make my own docking station for the UX31. So i need all of the dimensions, is it possible to get the blueprints/drawings with all of the dimensions on it ?
google only gives me l x w x h
