Does anybody know how much battery this laptop consumes in sleep mode. I put my laptop in sleep mode with almost full battery every night and when I wake up in the morning, my battery is completely drained. I don't it is working properly
-
-
Thank you, I turned it on.
-
It should last 2 weeks.
Sounds like it not going to sleep.
Try changing the battery profile and ensure its asleep when lid is closed. -
MTT, i cant see you, pm is still blocked. Send me a pm and I will reply.
-
A lot longer than one night.

tijo, I can assure you I have no interest in increasing my post court, I am simply trying to get the guy the information he wants.

Strange, anyway, you can download vcard in my profile.
Thank you so much for helping out
I hope you have downloaded the vcard. Now it's not downloadable anymore. -
Hello all,
I've had the Zenbook UX31-DH53 for two days now, and the wifi issues are driving me nuts. Wifi is constantly dropping out and resetting and seems really slow. I tried reinstalling the drivers, changing the power settings, and calling support, which said to reinstall the drivers or reset to factory settings. Seeing as how I didn't really change anything from the factory settings, I don't know how that would help.
Can anyone offer a definitive answer as to what's going on? Coupled with the sort-of-sticky keyboard I am seriously thinking about returning this for a mac, and this is from someone who has been vocally outspoken against Apple for years. I don't understand how a product fresh out of the box could have such a basic flaw.
Thanks very much!
PS. Touchpad is Elantec and very responsive. SSD is Sandisk and honestly doesn't seem super fast. -
Use the latest drivers, they work ok for me. No issues atall.
-
Yeah I've tried reinstalling the drivers twice and it's still dropping out.
-
what router are you connecting to.
you cant assume its the wifi card simply because other wifi cards connect ok.
compatibility issue exists between different chipsets on access point and wifi cards, something you can see if you google it. -
I had a similar problem as well. Turns out my UX31 had problems streaming video over an 802.11n connection (specifically, over a Cisco E2000 router, IIRC). I manually forced the router to broadcast only G band and have had no problems since.
-
The router is an Actiontec V1000H.
I actually didn't know you could have router/card compatibility issues in this day and age. I'll have to look into that. -
how to fix wireless:
Step 1: find a USB DVD rom drive and a Windows Home Premium disk
Step 2: Put all latest drivers on USB Drive (avoid anything that you don't need)
Step 3: Clean entire disk
Step 4: Install windows
Step 5: Install Drivers
Enjoy issue free wireless -
Sorry but I have a couple of new questions and the ASUS VIP forums dont even have laptops as a category...(sigh)
I have the UX31E-DH72. Im sort of happy with it. I seem to have to keep typing the O and A keys twice....but I digress.
So I had the grand idea of wiping the machine and loading off the CD Windows 7. This effort failed because when I went to load certain drivers (important ones) I got an error message saying this wasnt an ASUS laptop.
So first question is: Does anyone know who, what or where I have change in my off the CD OS to make it think its an ASUS laptop?
Secondly and this one is much bigger of a problem....Anyone try to do an "off the CD" restore yet? I burned CD Copies of my Asus image via the utllity. However when I used hat image because of the above mentioned issue, it corrupted my bootsector. Now I cant even restore my ASUS image. So I called and complained and had to PAY for a new CD image to be sent. Guess what....that did the same thing!!! So does anyone have a copy of the image that did work for the recovery of UX31E-DH72 that I can bribe you for a copy of?
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry for the long post.... -
Yes, send me a PM and I will send you a link to my image, which can be burnt to a USB stick.
Ref wifi issues.
May be a good idea to create a link of routers that work great.
So far I have woking OK -
Netgear WNR3700 working OK in wireless N
Netgear WRG834 working OK in wireless G
Its also worth noting that some manufactures, such as belkin, use different chipsets in different router/dongles so you cant assume if I bought all belkin I would not have cross brand compatibility issued. -
Hi!
A quick update if anybody is interested how the RMA process 'works' in Europe. I am located in Austria :
Jan 8th: noticed that my SSD does not work anymore
Jan 9th: made the RMA request. The laptop is supposed to be picked up on the 10th
Jan 10th - 13th: nothing happens
Jan 13th: I write an e-mail to ask what is going on. The laptop is then picked up the same evening by a local courier.
Jan 17th: I get an e-mail that the laptop has arrived at Asus, apparently in the Netherlands. The status reads: Jan 16th waiting for materials/spare parts
Jan 18th - Jan 30th: nothing happens, RMA status says only 'waiting for materials/spare parts'.
I wonder what kind of materials they are waiting for.. A new SSD being shipped from China by sailboat?

Hi guys
im having a problem with my ux21....i cant seem to update the bios with easyflash. Whenever i select the file it says no model number structure could be found? anyone knows what that means?
-
Hi,
I uninstall audio driver and want to install the latest version. And it's impossible because it's the same number for different drivers !
And now I have no audio. How to force to reinstall the factory audio ?
Thanks for help -
Hi,
My UX31 reboot sometimes, and I don't know why. It seems to reboot when windows update begin, but it's not always the case.
Someone saw this problem ?
Thanks for help -
I also had this problem with the error message. First you have to install " ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities" which you find on the asus support page. After that you should be able to install any other tools without a problem.
-
OK How do I send a PM?
Also do you know how to force utilities to install when it says "this is not an asus notebook"? -
If you do a restore everything will be back to normal and this error should not appear.
Click my name then send message is on the left I think. -
Hi all,
I want to buy ux31e but im full of concerns after reading this forum, seriously ... problem with wifi,rebots,drivers.... it is realy that bad?
Ive read that Asus will deliver new updated version of zenbooks at the begining of this year, major fix is Elana touchpad will be mounted..
1) Any one know when to expect this new versions in Europe?
2) What about keyboard - ive read a loot of bad things about it too?:/
3) How to distinguish models with ADATA Sandforce SSD Drives? serial number, sticker somewhere?
4) How to distinguish models with Elana touchpads? serial number, sticker somewhere?
Also do you think that it is worth to wait for Ivy Bridge premiere in April? i think that notebooks with IB will be expensive for the few months ( until end of 2012 ?)
I need notebook now..:/
Thank you!
-
Who knows, we dont know how many asus have sold, nor how many are faulty. What we do know is that all studies into laptop reliability find all makes very similar.
1) Any one know when to expect this new versions in Europe?
No.
2) What about keyboard - ive read a loot of bad things about it too?:/
The keyboard is great when you get used t it.
3) How to distinguish models with ADATA Sandforce SSD Drives? serial number, sticker somewhere?
Adata has a sandforce sticker on the box.
4) How to distinguish models with Elana touchpads? serial number, sticker somewhere?
Not that I know off, but it seems adata does not come with the elana. -
I dont have access to PM.....
-
I dont want to use the default image unless I absolutely have to. On a normal non-Asus Windows 7 image how do you get instant on to work? Also is there a certain order to install utilities and drivers to not get the "This is not an Asus laptop" error?
-
@decworld thanks for quick tip!
2 more questions :
- i5 or i7? small performance boost comparing this two, i5 is a cheaper! is i7 worth it?
- what about Ivy Bridge? wait for it? will it be cheap? i bet not...:/ -
I tried a clean install but was unable to get everything working. Instant on is just an application from the asus drivers site.
In the UK only the core i7 is available. -
ps, remember core i7 isnt just faster, it supports other functionality such as hyper threading.
as for it been worth the money, guess that down to personal choice.
either will be fast ... -
I believe all of the core i processors (3, 5, & 7) support hardware virtualization.
-
Hello Scrappy,
I have the I7 ux-21, and solved the wireless issues by updating the drivers and bios, which helped a bit, and then disabling the Asus Wireless Console 3 in startup. It now works as it should, and the wireless is very stable. I'd be interested in how you go if you try it. -
ooops, i meant hyper threading....

does anyone know if the zenbook series will be upgraded in april/may as ivy bridge is released?
-
Is it normal for the screen to dim automatically when watching full screen video and when switching back to desktop it takes a while for the screen to bright up again?
-
Dr. Duck, I tried disabling the wireless console in startup, and after restarting, I still had a wifi freeze, at which point I gave up for the night. I'll see how things hold up today and report back.
This really is a little silly though. I've read in interviews that the company said they wanted to get to market quickly, and it shows. But I guess first-generation models suffer. Samsung apparently had wifi issues with its series 9s, and now they are fixing it on the refresh with a 3-antenna card or something. -
Asus have not said anything about gen 2.
The screen dims itself and can be disabled in power options. -
On the machines with Sandisk ssd, it is also a small sticker on the box saying that. See attachment

Don't want to jinx it, but Dr. Duck, you may have completely solved this problem!
I've been surfing for the last couple of hours with no errors or interruptions, and on another floor from my router. I was worried it was some kind of interference between bluetooth and wifi, but I'm typing this up on a bluetooth keyboard.
Someone should edit this fix (disabling Asus Wireless Console) into the first page or something. -
I think this forum is making people paranoid about hardware problems.
The reality is that almost all the issues are software based and are their solved with an update or will be soon. -
You may be right. Here is my final call on this beast:
Pros:
Best-looking laptop I've ever seen. Super hot.
Elan touchpad is responsive.
Incredibly light.
Fairly swift relative to old-school laptops.
Cons:
Keyboard is mediocre at best.
Screen is very reflective during dark backgrounds. You probably wouldn't want to use this to ever watch movies.
Software is messing with the hardware, like wifi.
I am thinking very hard about returning this and waiting for the Samsung Series 9, which has a matte screen and probably a better keyboard, as those two features are the most important to me. -
Scrappygolucky, good points, but I do like the keyboard.
I avoided the series 9 as the screen flex is significant and the asus is almost non existent. In the uk the samsung is as expensive for the lower spec version.
I would of bought the lenovo u300s is if has a higher res screen. -
Got my UX31E back today. I let professionally install an anti-glare film. Now the display is almost non-glossy. Great thing. It's also possible to do this by oneself but there are experts for this who work in a completely dust-free room. It's hard to see that there's a film on the display at all.
-
does anyone really buy it anymore? it seems quite unnecessary to buy the ux31, or any other ultrabook for that matter, when ivy bridge is going to be released in a few months. yoga seems to be pretty nice, but it's due to q3. as for the samsung series 9, zenbook is by far better looking. but then again most laptops look like sh!t , including yoga, when compared to zenbook, especially rose gold
-
you cant delay purchases on the basis of something new thats coming soon, once ivy bridge is out the same argument will be made about ivy bridge 2...
you need it buy it, if not dont. -
I can confirm that the i5 version (i5-2557M) has hyper threading. Four processes show up in task manager in my UX31, which can only be explained by hyper threading in a dual core laptop.
In fact, here is a list of i5-2557M features, straight from the horse's mouth:
Intel® Core? i5-2557M Processor (3M Cache, 1.70 GHz)
AFAIK the only real advantage i7 has over i5 is higher clock speed and larger L3 cache, and maybe slightly higher GPU speed. -
laptopmaniac, seems you are correct.
my information came from that link which is perhaps now out of date -
true, but there seems to be a vast difference between sandy bridge and ivy bridge. and i believe waiting an extra two months for an improved version is worth it
-
Difference is not much more than that between sandy bridge and its previous generation.
However, if you can wait two months+, definitely wait. There will be better ultrabooks out by then.
